I'm not one of those people who knew from birth she was destined to become a writer. I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer.
Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged.
After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist.
Through it all -- through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor -- I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love.
I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try -- their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I've come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the "that's-it!" feeling I get when a story is flowing.
I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains.
Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can't imagine my life any other way.

A few Christmas’ ago, I was stuck in bed with one of those colds that just leaves you drained. As I quickly tired of sappy movies to watch, my loving husband went to the store and brought home a book – my first Thayne story – called the Christmas Ranch to help me pass the time. I quickly came to love the story about this small community called Pine Gulch, and the families that lived in the canyon. Since then, each year, I have looked forward to the latest story in the series. This year, it’s the Rancher’s Christmas Song.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I was provided an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. In fairness, with recent releases in the other Rae Anne Thayne series, I had forgotten about Ella and Beckett, who we met in last year’s “Cowboys” story. But I won’t forget this novel, and look forward to reading it again.
It’s a sweet story about overcoming personal challenges and initial impressions, and is perfect for the holiday season! And yes, characters from the previous stories appear (which gives us a nice update on what they are up to) but do not derail from the central story as we watch Ella and Beck find each other.
There are other stories in the series I have enjoyed more, but this one will not disappoint if you are looking for an ‘easy read’ as the snow starts to fall!
This was a sweet, if predictable, story about a growing romance between the hunky rancher with two adorable and rambunctious twin boys and their music teacher. Beck McKinley fights his attraction to his neighbor, Ella Baker, because he thinks that she is an Easterner who can’t make it in the tough Idaho life. His former wife couldn’t hack the life, so every woman who didn’t grow up there is suspect.
But Ella is tough and determined to make it on her father’s ranch. She agrees to help the boys prepare a Christmas song for their father and they help her overcome her fear of horses. Of course, their father steps in to help her relearn how to ride and the rest is romantic history. There isn’t much of a surprise in the plot, but it was still a sweet read.
I was give a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is two Christmas stories that are wonderful for the holidays. The first book is about a widowed father of rambunctious six year old twin boys and their music teacher who realizes these boys just need attention. She agrees to help the boys learn to sing their Dad's favorite cowboy Christmas song for their present to their father. This is a sweet, warm story that is perfect for the holidays.
The second story is a tear jerker about a widowed mother of four trying to handle her home and children with her own strength without asking for any help. Her only neighbor is a wealthy good looking CEO of his own company who seems to have a short fuse when it comes to her three boys but even big guys need someone for Christmas.
10 months out of the year you couldn’t get me to even look at a Cowboy romance. When the holidays hit I’m ready to strap on some boots and purchase a Stetson. I don’t know what it is about these cowboy/rancher books that put me in the holiday spirit but I cannot get enough. ReAnne Thayne is a new to me author but I’m already addicted. These are clean, sweet and low angst reads but they are the perfect thing for me to curl up and read in front of a fire and they warm my heart in the best way.
Another great book by this author & a great deal as it was a two-fer! Two great stories in one book. This is the last of my Christmas books until I start again closer to Christmas. I enjoyed the reading and after the year we all had I really needed them. I am glad I found this author and I will be reading more books by her.
Well, I have read, "The Cowboy's Christmas Miracle" and I loved it so much. It's a great book to read and best recommend. Truly love the author's writing. RaeAnne Thayne makes great stories. Thumbs up!
Quick, light, charming, somewhat predictable - setting was what attracted me to this holiday romance so would have liked it to play a bigger part of the story - maybe next time.
I always enjoy reading any of RaeAnne Thayne's books and I couldn't go wrong with two Cold Creek stories set at Christmas time! The Rancher's Christmas Song is a new story about the attraction between Ella Baker and Beck McKinley and the antics of Beck's twin seven year old sons.
The Cowboy's Christmas Miracle was originally published in 2008, but this is my first time to read it. I enjoyed reading the story of one of the first Cold Creek couples, Carson McRaven and Jenna Wheeler. The McRavens will hold future annual Christmas parties but this is the story of their first Christmas together.
