What happens when a 14th century Scottish hunk ends up in the 21st century? Would you believe his story?
When Mellie Evers is dumped on social media she decides to put her imagination to good use. And with the big family reunion rolling around, there’s no time like the present. Mellie tells everyone about her new boyfriend. He’s perfect, charming, Scottish…and fake. Well, he’s based a little too closely on a certain Scottish hottie but that guy? He’s a thief and claimed to be from…the 14th century and she kind of played a big part in getting him sent away. When he appears at the museum again, Mellie tells him she’ll help him out if he’ll pretend to be her fake boyfriend for the big reunion. Only Mellie doesn’t know Connor isn’t lying, he really is from the 14th century…and this time, he’s keeping that secret to himself.

Cynthia Luhrs spends her time out on the deck, looking out over the mountains, imagining what if. She writes women’s fiction, time travel romance, contemporary romance, family sagas, paranormal romance, and thrillers. Readers say her books (well not the thrillers, those are gritty) are light-hearted reads to escape reality. She lives in the mountains of North Carolina, has always been a reader, and is overly fond of sparkly flip flops and pretty pens. Though now that she lives in the mountains she’s going to have to find fabulous boots, mittens, and hats!
I LOVE THIS WHOLE SERIES!!! I loved Connor's story just as much as the rest in the series. I never was much for time travel stories until I started reading these beauties from Cynthia. Her personality shines through them & makes them more enjoyable as they're lovely & fun like her. Thanks again to Cynthia for providing this copy for read & review!
Unfortunately not a fan of this storyline. It was too much “Greg this” and “Greg that” (her ex-bf) throughout the whole book. It had great possibilities but fell flat.
**I received an Arc of this book as a gift in exchange for an honest review.**
Oh. My. God. 'Beyond Time' completely blew my mind. I have been waiting for Connor's story for, what seemed live, ever. The storyline pulled me in from the first page. I honestly didn't put my device down. I've been a huge fan of Cynthia Luhrs for a long time. I fell in love with 'A Merriweather Sisters Time Travel Series' from the first book and it carried over into the 'Thornton Brothers Time Travel Series'. Now I can add more to the ever growing list. I absolutely adore Cynthia and her writing style. Yes, I kinda fan girl over her at times. Back to Connor's story- the way the story played out had me laughing, shaking my head and tearing up. If you have read any of the Thornton books, you know what I'm talking about when it comes to Connor and his 'Future women are troublesome wenches. I would sooner wed a pig.' attitude. Hilarious. But poor guy does go through some unfortunate events while he's in his new 'time'. And to find out he is actually a caring gentleman. Who'd a thunk? Fitz was quite the character. I liked that he actually gave Connor a chance and helped him when it counted. Mellie is such a caring woman. Sure, she's far from perfect- which is always a plus in my mind, she seems to underestimate her own self worth and she truly is a ray of sunshine when she lets her guard down. I love the way Connor and Mellie interact. I can't wait to read more. A must add to your tbr list. Definitely highly recommended. One of my favorite lines in the whole book- "You are my life. Without you, life isn't worth living. I would defy death to stay with you. My love for you is beyond the boundaries of time."
Loved Connor's story! I am a huge fan of Cynthia Luhrs and if you haven't read her two time travel series: Merriweather Sisters and Thornton Brothers I highly recommend them both. Now back to this book...
Loved that Connor came forward in time... and how he does this is brilliant! In the other books he always references "future women" as troublesome wenches so when he finds himself face to face with one in the museum neither is quite sure what to make of the other. Not to give too much of the story line away suffice it to say there is quite a bit of adjustment period for Connor and he ends up in some unlikely places and forms friendships that allow him to assimilate into life in the current century.
Pick up a copy of this book... it reads well as a stand alone but I warn you... Cynthia's books are addictive so prepare yourself for diving into both the past series and awaiting the future like I am. Well done Ms. Luhrs!
This is an OK time-travel romance, featuring Connor, a time-traveling Scottish knight (from the 1300's), and the modern woman he falls for. Connor's story was included because he suddenly disappeared in Edward Thornton's story -- it turned out he traveled to modern times. For those who like clean romances, with no sex scenes, this series is perfect for you. It has kisses, but no sex scenes at all.
I have liked all the books so far in this series. I liked this one, too, but not as much as the others -- simply because I found it hard to like Mellie. I liked Connor a lot, but I did wonder what he saw in Mellie. She was rude to him when they first met, and was always a bit closed-off to him. I get that she was dealing with a recent break-up, but I really didn't get why he put up with the way she treated him.
It was hard to read, but I thought everyone's initial reaction to Connor was fairly accurate. What happened to him was sad, but I would expect that many people would think a time-traveling knight was mentally ill.
This book gets 3 stars from me. It would have gotten a higher rating if Mellie had been more likable.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
I really liked the twist in time where he comes from the past to meet her, instead of the female traveling to the past etc... It made for a very different adventure & they finally managed to put one foot in front of the other! Though honestly, the books could be much longer for the price they cost. I write also & my books are at least 250 - 300 pages long & my website is mariejeandavisbooks.net but I definitely will check out C. Luhrs website, thanks
I gave the story 5 stars. I could really relate to the family critiques in this episode of the Romance Saga. Also, this story could be a standalone and definitely has a wonderful HEA. The background for the story was both the art world and a museum so a very nice world to reside in! Thank you to the author for such a warm world to escape into during these troubled time!
This just wasn’t for me and doesn’t meet the calibre of the previous books. It felt quite rushed, particularly once Connor moves in with Melissa. She barely gives a thought to Connor’s ignorance of the world around him, choosing to live with her head buried in the sand. And don’t get me started on all of the many cliches thrown in for good measure…
Beyond Time: A Knight's Through Time Travel Romance by Cynthia Luhrs
Four stars, love her books except this one went off track..There was no connection between the past and the future..Too many large gaps in the storyline..Ending was just so so..Hope her next book is better
I really enjoyed finding out what happened to Connor, and I like your choice of a mate for him (especially that she wasn’t thin). Thank you for a good read. Keep the stories coming.
I love time travel novels. While it is fun going back, it is just as interesting the other way around. To imagine what they would think of all this technology, mind blowing. What makes everything even better is a hot Scott. I devoured this book.
A perfect read for those times you want a sweet, happily-ever-after story with believable characters you like and feel happy for when their dreams come true.
Connor MacTavish is every modern girl's dream come true! Lucky lucky Mellie that her creep of a modern boyfriend Greg can't hold a candle to hottie Scottie Connor! Fake boyfriend's can become real! Who knew?!
Always a good read from Cynthia Luhrs! A Scottish warrior from 1334 is forwarded to 2017 into a museum where the heroine works. Her current boyfriend has left her. Pleasant read.
Although this (if my memory serves) was listed as a novella (and I generally dislike novellas), this read more like a book to me. This should be listed as volume 3.5 in the Thornton Brothers series, and should be read in that order.
Book 3 (Edward's story) was SUCH a disappointment--like the author was no longer trying very much--and this was comparatively such a breath of fresh air. Connor McTavish came forward in time. I felt the author, perhaps relieved to be writing something different than the back-in-time books about the "future girls," put a bit more effort into this and it was a nice bit of time travel chick lit. Plus, the author didn't seem to leg along in the story by referencing lots of things from the past books in the Thornton Brothers series. There were some references but only a few comparatively. I know this book is benefitting from comparison to the other Thornton books. I am not sure how it would fare in my ratings otherwise--aren't all Goodreads' ratings subjective?! Maybe this would be a 3.5, rounded up to 4 stars.
Melissa "Mellie" Evers has been just dumped via social media. Mellie is hiding who she really is from her family and friends. She doesn't want to be an accountant but an artist is her heart's desire. When a handsome man crashes into her life, Mellie's world is turned upside down in ways she never expected. Connor McTavish is from 1334 Scotland and finds himself stranded in 2017 with no way to get back home again. Connor said he didn't want a future girl because their trouble learning to eat his words right now. Can Connor adapt to life in 2017? Can Connor return home? Will Mellie accept Connor? Your answers await you in Beyond Time.
I'm loving this book! Time travel books are so unique and mysterious as well as fun to read. The characters and story are rich, bold, mysterious, compelling, complex, honest, real, and raw. I look forward to more from this author in the future.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and was really looking forward to more about Connor, who also knew about 'future women' and found them troublesome. Fast forward from previous books and he comes to HIS future. I'm probably being mean but I would have loved him to find it a bit more difficult coming to the future. I love Cynthia's books but there was so much more that could have been done with poor Connor lol
Absolutely loved this book by Cynthia! She has a great ability for writing humor. I laughed throughout the book and also cried at the emotional parts. A great twist to have a Scot travel to the future. If you like funny romances you will love this one. This was my first book in this series and I am definitely going to read the others.
I loved Connor but I was disappointed with such a clean romance even though all that was hinted at in the beginning, so it led me to have false expectations...
