He emerged from the black waters to steal her heart. As a child, Edythe found out there were different types of monsters. Some were beautiful on the outside, but terrifying when the lights went out. Others appeared to be creatures of nightmares, but were loyal and honorable, ready to sacrifice their lives for those they loved. She learned the hard way which monster she preferred. Linc knew to stay away from humans. His kind, wary of being discovered, swam deep in the sea. Aegeans were legends, shifting shape from water to land. All his life, Linc followed the rules, laws set down to keep Aegeans alive. But then he saw Edythe. One glimpse and he knew she was his. He’d risk everything to protect her: madness, torture. Death. Fate may have brought Edythe and Linc together, but the world seems set on tearing them apart.
Ripley Proserpina spends her days huddled near a fire in the frozen northern wilds of Vermont. She lives with her family, two magnificent cats, and one dog who aspires to cat-hood.
Waking up to hear a man screaming Edythe soon finds out she is the only one who can hear these screams. After that night the screams kept coming and soon little Edythe found the reason hidden away in her fathers "work" room. Edythe couldn't sit back and do nothing even if she was little so she did everything she could to help the poor man trapped. One night while helping him after one of her fathers seasons with him Edythe decides the strange and different man has suffered enough, and plans to free him.
Link can't leave no matter what he has suffered, he can't leave Edythe. When Linc has no choice he and Edythe flee, only to have them stopped and their world change forever. Now years later Linc is the shell of who he used to be. Coming back to her childhood home Edythe's only goal is to safe Lincs true home and keep him safe. When she realizes saving him won't be as easy as she thinks Edythe sets out to find Linc, and everything changes from there.
I liked this book it started out great. It's different and I mean that in a good way, I think how this books starts with Edythe as a little girl was great and I LOVEED the story in this book, but there are many things that just wort quite right and mad this book less than it could have been. Edythe is 10 when the book starts but from everything she does you would think she was a grown woman. Sorry no 10 year old would so what she does and why did she do it and how did she know how to .
There are too many thing for me that just aren't explained enough and we were just supposed to believe them. I needed the story flushed out more. And like I said I loved the actual story in this book I just think the execution wasn't what it should have been. I will say the story is fun and i enjoyed this quick read and I think thats why I am having an issue with this book because I did like it and I wished for the changes because it would j=have been amazing.
*In reality this book was 3.5 stars in my opinion*
Let me start by saying (as I have in other reviews) that I don't normally read novellas. However, since Ripley Proserpina wrote it and I love her writing I decided to read it. After finishing the story I am very on the fence about it. On one hand, I really love the premise of this book and if there are full length novels set in this world Ripley has created I will definitely read them. Ripley is a master of creating realistic worlds with supernatural elements woven in seamlessly. I also liked the plot of this book and how fast-paced it was. I read the entire story in one sitting. The only reason that I did not give this book more stars is because I felt that it needed to be longer. I really wanted more conversations between Linc and Edythe and for them to get to know each other better before the romance began. There was also a big gap in time from when Edythe was young and met Linc to when she came back later in her life. I just wish that there was more about what she did during that time. Overall, I definitely enjoyed the story, I just wish more build-up/character development happened so that I could connect better with these characters. I definitely recommend reading this book though if you are looking for a quick romance novel.
In blown away by this author's take on paranormal. My heart broke for Edythe when she forced help Linc to escape the experiments her father was performing on him just because he had scales. He dove into the sea never to be heard from again, or so Edythe thought. Linc had found his mate in a human when she was only a child and of course it is forbidden by the Aegean race, mating with humans. He hated leaving her on the surface, but that was the right thing to do so she could grow up. Now grown up when forces are out of Edythe's control and the town decides to develop the land where Linc disappeared she must spring into action. Their pasts are about to try and destroy them, will Linc be able to save them?
** I voluntarily read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review **
Now I've never read a merman-type PNR and while Linc is not exactly a merman, I caught up in this world immediately. The first few chapters were especially captivating and the connection between Linc and Edyth and the reason for them being torn apart was heart breaking.
I had the privilege of beta-reading for this author on one of her other stories awhile back and I remembering reading one scene and just sitting back and going 'DAMN.' I knew then that Ripley was going to be an author to watch and I was right!! lol
Can't wait to see more of the Aegean and their world!!
This first taste of a novella in the Aegeans series whet my appetite for more. It's written in dual POV, my favorite. I loved that Edythe and Linc could hear each other's thoughts and share images with each other, this got me past the speed with which they fell in love. If you've have access to the inside of someone else's head you know them pretty well.
I loved the precocious eleven year old Edie every bit as much as I did the grown passionate Marie biologist with a Ph.D. that nobody wants to listen to. Her love of all things "fishy" was perfect for the Aegean man who found his mate in her. I think all romance readers love the idea of soulmates no matter their differences.
The villains in this story are troubling, and I fear will be an ongoing problem throughout the series. In the short amount of time I had in this book I got a clear picture of the characters and their world. I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
Wow!!!! Grab your oxygen tank and a swimsuit, cause you are in for a lovely underwater surprise.
" We got no troubles Life is the bubbles Under the sea " ( The Little mermaid")
This new specie which Ripley created has me swooning over and over. Linc stole my heart since the moment he proclaimed he couldn't leave Edie's side, even when her father was doing all those terrible things to him.
And Edie's generous heart sneaks up on you before you know, and I love the fact that she sounds like a very realistic girl, with insecurities which she can't help to hide from Linc.
Another great installment by this wonderful writer and hoping there is sequel, cause I am in the mood to see a Little Merm... Aegaen 😊

I loved this book so much. My only wish is that it had been a full length novel and not just a novella. A charming paranormal romance. This book made me smile, laugh and cry. A beautiful story of fated mates; it truly touched my heart and I can not wait to see what happen in any new books in the series. Edythe is just a young girl when she meets Linc. She assumes that Linc is just a teenage boy but she is wrong because he is so much more. I will not go into details because I do not wish to ruin this book by giving away spoilers. I will say that I wholeheartedly recommend this book. If you enjoy a beautiful and emotional love story, that will deeply touch your heart; then buy this book! I don't believe you will regret it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
A quick read I could've easily enjoyed on the beach....maybe while imagining that one of Linc's relatives is watching beneath the waves. Unlike many reads I've read this month, Ripley gives a decent amount of backstory. The only real downside is the main conflict was rushed through, there's no real conclusion between Edythe and her father. Plus several seemingly important characters make brief appearances but we never see them again. Not dissimilar to some t.v. shows; it had great characters, suspense, a build up that leaves you on the edge of your reader......and then rush thru the last part before the credits hit. I'm not saying it's a bad ending or a cliffhanger, I just wanted another couple thousand words.
Edythe hears the screams from the basement that her mother can’t hear, the basement that belongs to her father...after sneaking in she discovers her father is not who she thought him to be and finds the source of the screams.. a boy with scales...a boy named linc. Linc is an aegean, he can breathe is the sea and wear scales to protect himself from predators. He has no choice but to stay near Edythe until she grows up, if he does he will be in constant pain and loose his mind...become a danger to himself and others.
After a foiled escape... the worst happens... linc and Edythe are separated. He has no choice but to wait for her return. This is their short but sweet story. It’s short and sweet and perfect for an afternoon read.
This was a very well written novella with a lot of interesting elements - some I've never read before and some that I have but not quite put together in this way. The protectiveness Linc and Edie feel towards each other is so strong and sweet and I love that Edie does just as much protecting - more, really, than the hero. She is strong and smart and both characters are all-in with their love for each other even with the danger that surrounds them. The Aegean species is beyond cool and quite different and I would love to read about more and it seems that may be the intention which is great news.
Housekeeping: I only found one typo to speak of so.... YAY!!
I was given an advanced read copy of this book for an honest review.
This was a charming, quick, delightful fantasy romance. When I think of Edythe, the heroin of this story, I think of the quote "though she be little, she be fierce". We first meet her as a spunky, protective, resourceful 11-year-old and we see her develop into a nerdy, protective, PhD-wielding 26-year-old. This book is set in an interesting new fantasy realm (The Aegeans) that hasn't been overdone. It's a pleasure to read a short novel that doesn't skip the plot and character development. I can't wait to read more from this series.
Missing Linc by Ripley Proserpina was a really good novella. I loved Ripley's take on merfolk with the Aegeans. The story flowed well and the main characters were pretty well developed. The background information for how Edythe and Linc met really set the scene for the fast paced romance throughout the story and made it more believable. I would have liked more description and depth on the Aegeans and their underwater home, it was kind of vague. And I wish we could have known more about Edythe during her time away from Linc. Hopefully, these things will be touched on more in future books in the series. But overall a great start to the series and I look forward to the continuation of Edythe and Linc's story.
I loved this paranormal romance about Linc and Edie... they were perfect for each other. The Aegeans are an interesting sea race and I love how Edie is the one to bring him back into the fold. They will be a perfect little family. They showed so much love for each other; and his family showed up when they needed them the most. A nice little twist at the end. Definitely a book worth reading!!! I hope and can't wait to read more in this series!! I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a wonderful new series! Ripley has me reading outside of my norm here. I haven’t read anything like this one. I love the mix of human and Aegeans. I am fascinated by the details of this sea race that Ripley has created. The early timeline opening was the perfect way to jumpstart this story allowing it to take off so quickly. Of course this book was way too short, but I’m definitely looking forward to a full length continuation! Well done Ripley! I’m a total fan!
As a child Edyth discovers her father is a monster who uses science as an excuse. Now as an adult she will need to make a big decision. Linc has too stay close to the shore but that turned into a very dangerous and pain filled place to be. This is the start of a new series about warriors who live under the sea. The scientists on land are the real bad guys. I'm sure we will all fall in love with these scaled heroes.
This book reads like a song! Dreamy and beautiful. For a relatively short story, it has surprisingly well developed world and characters. The romance has heart! Just the way I like it :) I have to warn you, the book sucks you in from the beginning! I set out just to read a couple of pages to get the feel of the story; before I knew it - the afternoon was gone, and I have a pile of work to do all night now! I just needed to know what happens next. :) Thank you, Ripley Proserpina!
Missing Linc is a great novella. It is the first book in the Aegeans series, and I am looking forward to reading the rest. The Aegeans are essentially merfolk, but only in that they can live underwater. Linc and Edythe are great together. I love how strong and protective Edythe is, and that although Linc is alpha, he appreciates Edythe's strength. I can't wait to read more about the Aegean world.
I received an ARC of this book, and voluntarily reviewed it. All opinions are my own.
I received a free advanced reader copy of this book and voluntarily decided to review it
This book is awesome, I have never read about Aegeans before, it is exciting from the beginning with excitement and romance. I really enjoyed the unusual storyline, its well written and I am very excited to read book two
Ripley Proserpina really draws you in with her writing, five star, excellent
The story wasn't very long and I honestly wish it was. Linc is a prince but an outcast and his relationship with little Edie was sweet. Half of the book was from when she little which I thought was the most important part of the story. Of course I liked Linc's alphaness and how protective Edie was towards him. Like I said it's a short read but one you shouldn't miss out on.
overall a really really good Novella (i think i said that right). I love the fact that the book started with giving details about how they met and how they are in the situation that they are in. great character interaction and overall really good writing! I really enjoyed this read and can not wait for the rest to come out!
It's a really fast read. That was my only issue. I wanted more. But for a fast read she did a brilliant job in building a world and giving the characters depth. I loved the two characters and their relationship. This is definitely an interesting world and I can't wait to learn more about it.
Ripley Proserpina is off to a great start with this series. I love that this story had all of the typical ingredients to make a fabulous soul mate Novela but she added the surprising twist of Linc being the creature from the black lagoon. Who would have thought that sea monsters could be so very sexy. I am super excited to read the next one in this series.
I haven’t read a lot of stories featuring the creature from the black lagoon, so this was a treat! I love love love everything about this story. Until today, I never would have thought the black lagoon creature could be cute and sexy. I am so excited to read the next in this series!
I really liked the connection between the 2 characters meeting when they were young then torn apart and reconnecting years later. The connection they share is very special. Short book but a great start to the series look forward to the next one.
This is a story about Link and Edythe. Two who love each other from two different worlds. They meet when Edythe is a child, part, then find each other again. It's a unique take on the fantasy-mate thing. Good quick read with a happy ever after. I received a copy of this book for my honest review.
I was lucky enough to get a ARC for this book. I really enjoyed the story line and the build up of the characters past before we get to their future. Ripley books are great :)
