Judy Greer, wife of a POW in Vietnam attempting to keep her marriage alive and reestablish a relationship with her alienated teenage son, finds love with another man
Judy's husband is a POW. She has been on her own on a military base with her adolescent son for 6 years while her husband is said to be held in a camp in Hanoi. No letters come from him, but the government has assured her he is alive.
She is an anti-war activist, hating the Vietnam War, the Army, the government. She does have two good and supportive friends. Her son is struggling with growing up and with his anger/fear.
Into her life walks a new football coach for her son.
Her live-in mother-in-law has health issues.
Judy and her son don't know what to do with the life they have been given or the new guy in town.
well, its a great start, but two minor things that I can't stand, first, how is the and and so confusing in a sentence and second, when Kevin was in the classroom dreaming, how did he ended up hitchhiking for cars in the street, seems that the author was drifting herself to sleep in the middle of the story, but the ending was perfect. All in all, 4 stars is what I have to say.
An easy read novel that considers absence, loss, guilt and love. A page turner, the author keeps you interested in how it will all unravel. Some interesting twists along the way.
