When the boss of the big local DIY outlet is murdered on a moonlit night, all the evidence points to the store's junior manager. And when police retrieve the murder weapon from the Thames, the manager goes on the run. But Jack and Sarah are not at all sure of his guilt. Can they uncover the real killer before it's too late for the runaway suspect?Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick read for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa. You'd like to read a Cherringham story in novel-length? The first Cherringham book DEAD IN THE WATER is already available, and the second book THE BODY IN THE WOODS, will be out on July, 25th 2017. Or maybe you'd like Neil Dudgeon to read them to you? Episodes 1-15 are also available as audiobooks!Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and - most recently - the successful crime fiction series Cherringham.
I was super pleased to see this book on my Kindle this morning. Great way to start my day. As always a great and delightful cosy mystery. Already looking forward to the next mystery.
This felt like an outline for a novel more than it felt like a novella or short. There was just not enough space for an actual murder mystery here. Sometimes, I felt like I was reading an outline instead of a story. (Grace, so excited. Relieved!) It looked at times like the kind of notes you write to yourself during the revision process.
I'll admit I haven't read many shorts, but I have liked several mystery ones I have read. This one just felt like too much was left out.

I read the story, but was wishing it were a bit longer to better explain some events better. On the whole it is a interesting short story. The characters are established and evolved. With the authors from different countries (Britain & US) Sarah & Jack portray the characteristics of their homelands.
Sarah & Jack set out to prove a man innocent of his work superior's murder. A Quick read that compacts the story into fewer pages. My rate of "Cherringham - Death on a Moonlit Night" is 4 out of 5 stars.
A mystery book in novella length… what’s not to like? I really like this kind of book. A true mystery book, in a small town, starred by local people, with a little ongoing story at the background.
Well, this is the 26th novella of Cherringham cosy crime series, and I admit that this is the second one I read. I read the first novella and then jump straight here, so admittedly I felt a bit lost in the background story. However, not to worry, the main mystery story was completely a stand-alone. You could enjoy it whether you’ve read previous books or not, and I did. I enjoyed this book very much, and now I really would like to read book 2-25 to catch up on the background story while enjoying the main mystery story.
The story was quite simple. A man, one that many didn’t like, got murdered and all evidences pointed out to his sub-ordinate. Our main characters, Sarah and Jack, didn’t believe he did it, and off they went to find the real culprit. Not many twists and turns, but kept me interested anyway. Great read!
I was provided a complementary copy by the author / publisher through NetGalley, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.
If you have a secret, it's best to keep your distance from ex-NYPD detective Jack and web designer Sarah since they have a knack for uncovering every little detail.
However, they do come in handy if you are engaged to fan favorite Grace, as Jack and Sarah will do everything in their power to protect you from any wrongful accusations.
As this novella reminds you, if someone from your past comes knocking on your door, it's best to avoid answering, especially if you have a gun in the house and a mentally unstable person is seeking revenge.
Overall, I find this series enjoyable as it's always entertaining to catch up with Jack and Sarah and see what adventures they are up to in the village of Cherringham.
The manager of the local big box DIY store is a mean-spirited, obnoxious bully of a man. When he ends up murdered, few mourn his death but the main suspect is Grace's fiance, Nick, so, of course, Jack and Sarah immediately get involved. The problem is that the more Jack and Sarah discover, the darker it looks for Nick and even they begin to believe that Nick may not be the man Grace believes him to be.
These short tales are the ideal palette cleanser between longer books. The stories are getting more intricate and layered, so I no longer class them as a guilty pleasure. Cosy yes, twee and insipid no. Catching up on a couple of instalments I’d missed raised a couple of queries: Sarah seems to have moved house and gained a dog. Did this happen in one of the full length novels? Oh, and never, ever call a nappy a diaper in a UK book. Lost a star for that.
I really enjoyed the whole series. These serials are perfect for a quick read. The characters really grow on you and become like friends you meet for lunch once a week.
As always, I enjoyed listening to a Cherringham story. Somehow the characters were a little less believable than usual. Could it be because some were quite entwined with the central characters in this series? Good enough though.
A good book to listen too when you clean the house. It gives you ”Midsomer murders” wibes. It is fun to try to figure out how the guilty person is. Jack is a retired cop from US, Sarah is a singel mom and they solves crime together. This one was about a murder.
Having recently been disappointed by the first Cherringham full-length novel I was pleased to now read another of the short stories. I still very much like Jack and Sarah, their relationship and the cozy setting but I do still find the writing a little odd. There are too many short jerky sentences that read like they've not yet been properly fleshed out. However, these stories definitely work better in short form. This is a quick and cozy, entertaining mystery.
