Fall in love with THE THORNTONS, a family filled with sexy alpha males, passionate women, and lots of heart, all set in a delightful small town in the Pacific Northwest. Each book in the series is connected but can be read as a standalone.
BOOK DESCRIPTION: Megan Flannigan wants only two things in life: to run her bakery The Rise and Shine, and to avoid the handsome and insufferable Officer Caleb Thornton.
Caleb has made her life difficult ever since he arrested her over a decade ago, and her one wish is that he leaves her alone—while they both continue to deny the attraction that sparks between them every time they meet.
Her wishes are dashed when her bakery is robbed. To make matters worse? Caleb is assigned to the case—and now he’s the officer charged to protect Megan from a dangerous criminal.
Caleb Thornton decided to become a police officer to atone for a tragic adolescent mistake. As part of the famously rich and privileged Thornton family, he’s always been aware of how he can never measure up to his family’s expectations.
As a result, he follows the letter of the law in both his job and his personal life—except when it comes to the beautiful and fiery Megan. She makes him yearn for something more, and she attracts him as much as she frustrates him. When Caleb is assigned to watch over Megan, he’s forced to reconcile the feelings he’s harbored for her for years.
But as danger draws closer to Fair Haven, Megan and Caleb must come to grips with the past—or risk losing the love of a lifetime.

A coffee addict and cat lover, USA Today bestselling author Iris Morland writes sparkling, swoon-worthy romances, including the Flower Shop Sisters and the Love Everlasting series.
If she's not reading or writing, she enjoys binging on Netflix shows and cooking something delicious.
I'm dnf'ing this. There's nothing wrong with the writing, or the characters, though really they should stop behaving like idiots and simply grow up.
No. It's the plot that doesn't work for me. It's simply not realistic.
A cop assigned to watch a small town shop in the hope a burglar (who has already trashed the place) will return - and during the day? Nah. Not going to happen. I would LOVE to live in a town where there is so little crime that a police force can spare a cop to watch over a small one-man bakery 24/7.
Nah. Not happening. Without reality at its heart, I can’t get into a story.
Ugh this family is great! I don't know what it is about this family but they always make me laugh and cry at parts. Looking forward to seeing what else this series has to come.
I have been enjoying this series. So, I'm not surprised that this one is good too. In this one we have Caleb and Megan. Needless to say these two have history. Thankfully by the end they get it all together and get their HEA.
Like the first book in this series, this novel needed more plot and character development. The characters seem immature; and the events in the plot seem to be contrived. Both the story line and the author's writing need development.
I really enjoy this series. I fell in love with Sara and Harrison from The Nearness of you and knew I had to see Megan and Caleb's story. We meet these two because Megan is Sara's younger sister and Caleb is Harrison's younger brother. Megan was raised basically by Sara because their mother was a drunk. Instead of Sara being the angry one it is Megan who is angry and finds it hard to let anyone under her guard. Caleb has managed to do that for several years now it is only Megan that is in denial. Caleb denies it as well because if he allows himself to feel he will have to deal with his past.
Caleb is a man of the law and believes in upholding the law and because of that a lie from his past has ate away at him and prevented him from finding happiness. Can Caleb share this deep dark secret with the one woman who would understand? Will Megan give him the chance to show her she can trust him with her heart? These two character's were so passionate that when they realize they can not go home to that empty bedroom one more night the book just engulfs in flames. You could just feel the pent up frustration finally being released. Things are still unfinished where the secrets are concerned but for a while you get the couple including some dirty talk.
The one thing I did struggle with a bit is toward the end of the book. Action fills the pages but I felt the author rushed her scenes too fast and the story suffered keeping the images from flowing as smooth as the rest of the book did. It is not necessary for you to have read book 1 before this one but, hey, it's on the freebie list so snag it. You will enjoy it! Book 3 is set up for Mark and Abbey at the end of this one. Mark is a rancher and Abbey a nurse. They have that love/hate relationship as Megan and Caleb did but the twist is that Abbey's mother wants her married. Tired of her mother fixing her up, Abbey leads her to believe Mark is her new love interest. Oh, did I mention Mark is listening to the whole conversation? Enjoy!
Megan and Caleb have butted heads ever since he arrested her when she was seventeen. Living in a small town, they see each other frequently, and since her sister is engaged to his brother, avoiding each other is impossible. Megan would rather focus on her bakery and not think about the sexy cop who makes her crazy, but when her bakery is robbed it's Caleb's job to keep her safe.
After reading other books in this series, I was glad to read an advance copy of this one. I knew it would be an interesting and entertaining read, bringing together two characters who seemed to hate each other. The bickering and banter between Megan and Caleb was hilarious, and it was obvious that sort of chemistry would translate well to other areas. But it’s not all light-hearted steamy fun because Caleb has carried a load of guilt for the past fifteen years, and his working through that issue was heart wrenching and poignantly tender. I adore these two characters and thoroughly enjoyed watching them each work out their own issues. And it’s always great to return to a familiar setting and characters, getting reacquainted and reimmersed in a fictional world I’ve grown fond of. I enjoyed every minute of Caleb and Megan's story and can’t wait to read more in this series!
I liked this one better than the first book in the series. For one, it wasn't filled with the stuff about living in small towns that I don't usually like i.e. gossip, meddling, and noisiness. It also didn't harp on the rich family getting away with everything or I'm rich so I'm better thing.
However, I did have a bit of a time warming up to these two on the basis of the teenager-y vibe I got with all of their bickering. For. No. Good. Reason.
It was all...I like you but can't admit it, so I'll pull your hair/hit you with a rock.....
Once Caleb and Megan got over that stupidity it was actually great.
The Very Thought of You: The Thorntons Book 2 is by Iris Morland. Are second chances really necessary? Do they work? This book looks at the idea of second chances. Can you really overlook the past? Caleb Thornton and Megan Flannigan had a past. When Megan was seventeen, he had arrested her. Since then, they had been at odds with each other. Now that his brother and her sister were getting married, Caleb knew he had to somehow make up with Megan. However, every time they were together, they fought. However, Caleb kept trying. Would he win or would she?
I seriously couldn't wait to read about Megan and Caleb since I first met them in the beginning of the series! I knew I was going to love them! They were absolutely perfect together!
I just love me a great small town romance. Caleb and Megan are everything. From the first book I absolutely needed to know there story. And I was glad they got one. So much love, laughter and happiness. 💙
A sweetly beautiful romance about two people hiding things they believe with change way the world looks at them and fighting an attraction so strong they argue at every turn.
Megan Flannigan is a sweet bakery owner and she has a not so pleasant past with Officer Caleb Thornton. They are thrown into a situation that requires them to face the past and the attraction they are both determined to ignore. The danger she faces after her bakery is broken into spurs Caleb into action to defend and protect.
Loved every heartwarming and emotional turn. Looking forward to the next adventure in this series.
After an incident when she was 17, Megan Flannigan is determined not to become like her mother. Caleb Thornton made a mistake when he was 17 and now as a police officer is determined to atone for the tragedy. They get along like oil and water, but cannot resist each other. Will Caleb finally when Megan over? Will she accept the truth of what he did? Will Caleb be able to keep her safe from the person coming after her?
Absolutely loved these two! After meeting Sara in the first book of the series, I really enjoyed getting to know how the past had affected Megan. I loved how both had things at 17 that affected how they were today and were their paths in life had gone! Loved how despite the constant barbs thrown his way, Caleb was still determined to protect her! The third time is the charm and cannot wait for the next book in the series!

The second novel in Iris Morland's Love Everlasting series, in 'The Very Thought of You', we get to know Megan (Sara's sister) and Caleb (Harrison's brother). An enemies-to-lovers romance with several layers and some complexity, I really enjoyed this one. The steamy scenes were hot, I love how effortlessly Morland builds her universe by introducing us to the next characters and I really like that Caleb's absolution didn't only have to do with Megan. I lowkey expected a pregnancy (or at least scare) and I would have liked to see more of their relationship grow after the resolution, but this was a good one.
The Very Thought of You is the second book in the Love Everlasting - The Thorntons series, and while connected to the first book because you’re following a family, it can completely stand alone. Megan and Caleb have a past, and it’s not very positive. Always seeing her at her lowest point, Megan wants to hate Caleb because it’s just easier, but after her bakery is broken in to and they’re forced to spend more time together, she’s realizing that hate is starting to feel a lot more like love. Caleb is holding a dark secret, though, and just as they are getting stronger and falling deeper, his secret comes out and Megan is in danger. Can Caleb keep her safe and win her love fully and forever?
I believe this is my first book by Ms. Morland, but I was just completely enraptured by the characters, the world building, the drama, and the very real emotions created within these pages! With a slight enemies to lovers vibe, Megan and Caleb have this amazing chemistry, an interesting backstory that will forever connect them, and a budding love that can allow trust, confessions, and healing - if only they’d let their love shine. Megan had so much pride and wanted so badly to stand on her own, often allowed her emotions to rule her, but I loved the soft and vulnerable side to her that came out with Caleb. A man with a dark past, Caleb only wanted to do something right everyday, so he’s one to follow the rules and stay away from temptations. Megan proves too great for him, though, when they finally crash together! The drama of the book had me intrigued, but the characters themselves really had me turning pages to see how they would respond and how they would change. I loved the families and friendships, too, and am already super intrigued about the rest of the Thornton’s. I loved this book and enjoyed reading it!
Megan and Caleb find that there is a very thin line between love and hate! Megan has worked hard to make a good name for herself in Fair Haven. Her bakery, the Rise and Shine, is a respectable establishment and she is has distanced herself from the stigma that seems to follow the Flannigan name around. Most people in town have nothing but kind words for the sweet as pie bakery owner, but one of Fair Haven's residents just burns her cross buns! Caleb Thornton has always made her feel like she is still that girl he arrested at 17 for the mistake that almost derailed her life. With his handsome looks and upstanding moral character he is enough to make anyone feel slightly lacking. When a robbery at her bakery makes it necessary for a police detail, none other than Office Thornton gets the beat! Caleb is known around Fair Haven as shining beacon of truth and justice, but that is all a carefully crafted lie. He is hiding a deep dark secret that has haunted him for 15 years. One bright spot in Caleb's life is his constant power grab with the tiger Megan Flannigan. Since he arrested her 10 years ago he hasn't been her favorite person and she has made that quite clear. He has always been insanely attracted to the fiery beauty and enjoys the foreplay of their bickering. When the brake-in at her bakery puts Megan in the crosshairs of a dangerous perp, there is no way Caleb is going to let her go without protection. They have been dancing this dance for a long time and it’s time for the final act - but will Caleb's past keep them from the big finish?
A delightful romantic suspense story that has the reader cheering the path to true love!
Megan and Caleb (which means mad dog, I don't understand why it's a popular name) are unable to hold a civil conversation presumably from an incident 10 years earlier! But hate and love are two emotions that can get blurred! Obviously they are perfect for each other, and the fun is watching them figure it out.....slowly! Iris Morland has created a wonderful series about the Thorton family and assorted interacting players in a small town! The characters are engaging and many ultimately get their own novel to reveal their story! I love how the author incorporated an important truth as a central thread through the novel. The need to forgive ourselves and others for being the flawed and human people we are! Heavy on romance and light on suspense, The Very Thought of You is not just a great old song, but a heartfelt and moving story of love and redemption! I loved the booked and highly recommend it and the rest of the series! They're feel good, sexy and fun journeys through life with characters you'll love!
I received this book on HG in exchange for an honest review....
Megan owns a bakery and Caleb is a police officer. These individuals both have a past together that is more like a hate/love relationship. Their childhoods and relationships with their parents are similar yet all they do is fight when they are around each other.
As the story progresses you learn why they bicker. You learn about their secret pasts that make them who they are today. Pasts that start going through the mending stage in this book.
But overall the story...Megan's bakery gets robbed, but nothing is taken only the place is trashed. Caleb is assigned to watch over the bakery and Megan. The police believe the robber will be back. This means the two are together a whole lots, walls come down, and clothes come off...in the end they apprehend the robber and they both are on their way to a happy ending.
I was so looking forward to this book after the last one...and it certainly did not disappoint! I loved Caleb and Megan and their constant almost-fighting. It was truly adorable how much they both wanted the other and yet neither felt worthy of that kind of love. Caleb was still not over his best friend Danny's death from years back. Megan felt inadequate due to her childhood with the town drunk as a mother and her arrest at almost 18 by none other than Caleb. I liked how attentive Caleb was after Megan's bakery was broken in to. He was always there, watching. His little sister Jubi had wonderful insight to share with Megan and Sarah also contributed nicely to the story (after all, she's engaged to his older brother, Harrison). Love these families!
I’m kind of coming at this series all out of order. I’ve read the available Thornton book’s, yet I haven’t read the Younger book before this. This story stands well on its own, but there are definitely references to events in the previous book and there were some moments where I felt like I was missing the keys to the inside jokes. Caleb and Megan are like fire and gasoline – the tiniest spark will set them off and heaven help everyone around them when it happens. The weight of guilt these two are carrying around is mind-boggling. And the guilt itself is a living, breathing thing that’s taken over both their lives. I loved watching this pair grow beyond the events of their youth and learn how to forgive each other and themselves, to discover that hate and love really aren’t that far apart from one another. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Hidden Gems Books.
"Megan Flannigan wants only two things in life: to run her bakery The Rise and Shine, and to avoid the handsome and insufferable Officer Caleb Thornton. Caleb has made her life difficult ever since he arrested her over a decade ago, and her one wish is that he leaves her alone—while they both continue to deny the attraction that sparks between them every time they meet." Not bad at all, although a bit forced (all those arguments between Caleb and Megan) for about the first third of the book. Then the pace picked up a bit, tension was growing, and an attempted robbery into her bakery forces Megan to "endure" Caleb's presence in her life even more. Predictable, yes, but with some nice twists and turns thrown in when I thought I knew where this was going. Sympathetic characters, and a nice plot made this an enjoyable read. Definitely want more of this series.
Megan's bakery is robbed and the one person she has been avoiding, is the person assigned to her case, Caleb Thornton. Megan and Caleb each have a past that brought them to where they are today. It once brought them together in a different way. Will Megan be able to overcome that anger and embarrassment? Will Caleb ever get past and work through his big mistake? The way their lives are tangled together really gives depth to their story. This story caught my heart and attention and would not let go until the end. Iris Morland wove these two lives together through her words and I was caught in the tangled web.
Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer have complimentary voices. The transitions between them was smooth and kept he story flowing. I enjoyed listening to this narration. Ms. Costa and Mr. Kafer brought this story to life.
Megan and Caleb has long history. When Megan was 17 years old, she was caught drunk driving by Caleb and she threw herself at him but he rejected her. Ever since then, they couldn't both avoided each other and if they have to face each other in the same town, they can't be civil. Due to her DUI, she lost her scholarship to her college so she settled and became a baker. When her store was robbed, Megan has to face Caleb and he was in charge of her case and now he is standing outside of her store all the time. Caleb has dark kept secret that drew him back to atone for his sin. He knew he couldn't say anything since he did same thing but consequence was much grater. Megan and Caleb argued but they also had crazy sparks. When they succumb to their attraction. Megan starts to open up to Caleb but Caleb can't open up to her. Everything seems going well until Megan finds out Caleb's secret. She feels betrayed and everything goes down the hill for both. Now they have to find a way to mend their relationship but her bakery robber is not caught yet and he is going to be problem for both.
I have read both series (1st one is about her sister and Caleb's brother) and I enjoyed this one as well. Both were head strong but they found their HEA. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
This book was bothering me anyway, primarily because the heroine's a flighty distrustful contradictory person without enough redeeming qualities to make her charming at all. But, I might have finished this story anyway - until he spanks her without enough warning or explicit permission. I'm not into it and it startled me, but really it was just the last thing I needed to push me away. If the author had flipped this script, made him this annoying flighty person and her the cop, it might have appealed to me. Why is it always the woman who acts like this? If romances are for us, why give us annoying heroines?
I liked the book. I did not read the first book in the Thornton series yet but, it did not impact Caleb and Megan's story at all. You will enjoy the reading experience because of the range and depth of emotion the characters go through from teenagers to adults. The love/hate relationship between Caleb and Megan is bittersweet part of their story. They have a past that impacts their present but, makes them who they are today. Now, if only they could accept that fact.
I am looking forward to reading the first book about Harrison and Sarah and the third book about Mark and Abby.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
Two people who have known and wanted each other for a decade, but always argue when they are around each other. Both have secrets from their past and family/friends who believe their feelings are more than what they are letting on. When bad things keep happening to Meagan, Caleb is there to protect her (both as a cop and because he cares). Both are nervous, because they have expressed interest and been turned away - both with valid reasons for doing so. This book was so good. It showed that guilt can mess with your life and second chances are never out of the question. I highly recommend this book.
I received this audio book free for an honest review. I really enjoyed this story. However, I first have to say that the description of Megan is a beautiful woman with red hair. It may seem simple, but I like to look at the book cover and imagine the characters with faces. Disappointed that the cover didn't represent the characters. I just ignored the description of Megan's red hair and pictured her as the picture on the cover. Megan and Caleb have a rocky relationship to start, both with baggage. But their love affair grows and is very HEA. The narrators did a good job with the characters and their personalities, enhancing the story.
***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
I was a little nervous at first because I loved Sara and Harrison's story so much that I didn't know how the second book could possibly live up to it, but I really enjoyed this one just as much. As 2 people who constantly felt themselves unworthy slowly start to realize it isn't true, their story was completely different and a lot more intense. I found myself reading through this so quickly because I just couldn't wait to see what happened next. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one!
Sugar, spice and danger seems nice and Ms. Morland presents it all. The Very Thought of You shows the path few people dare to tread. The road to forgiveness. Megan and Caleb are both good people. They care deeply, work hard and seek to move on from the mistakes of the past. Buried within two people that seem to have it all together are secrets that destroy the way each view themselves. Add in a traumatic event, an explosive attraction, a dangerous situation and a inquisitive, yet welcoming small town and you have the makings of a temptingly delightful romance.
4.5 - great read. loved the hate / lust they had for each other. made for funny moments, but the strength they gave each other was felt in the heart. i admit i was crying at one point for both their pasts, but it made it all the more enjoyable to see them be victorious. didn't like that once again, parts of the story felt rushed and skimmed over in the writing style. plus, her 'you lied to me, woe is me' mentality became annoying when it was his secret and he was still coming to terms with it. with that said, I've already preordered #3 though. fingers crossed
Caleb can't understand why Megan hates him. Turns out? Because he arrested her 10 years ago. When he did that, she lost her scholarship and her ticket out of the small town life. Yup. That would do it. Fast forward 10 years. Megan is now a successful small business owner and Caleb is still the local cop. They hate each other, they work through it, they love each other. Nothing too amazing about this book but a very enjoyable 2 hour reading time. Easily the best of the three in this series that I read.
