A mysterious death brings Deputy DeeDee Clawson to the scene of a movie being filmed at an old mansion in Silver Hollow. Tucker Rockwood, the star of the movie, is found dead, a stake through his heart. Lots of people might have wanted to kill Tucker, but when DeeDee’s investigation points in the direction of the movie’s producer, Caine Hunter, she thinks she has her man.
As if investigating this murder isn’t enough, DeeDee has something else hanging over her head. As the daughter of a werewolf pack leader, she has agreed to an arranged marriage. She hasn’t even met her intended yet, but she’s already starting to regret her agreement to enter into a loveless marriage…especially when her feelings toward Caine turn from suspicion to romance.
Caine Hunter has been smitten with feisty deputy Clawson since day one, but since DeeDee seems determined to arrest him for murder, he’s pretty sure the feeling isn’t mutual. Yet, he can’t help but sense that DeeDee is fighting an inner attraction to him that she won’t admit even to herself. Too bad that once she discovers his secret, she’ll want to have nothing further to do with him.
As the investigation heats up and DeeDee’s wedding day approaches, she turns to her four close witch friends, the Quinns, and their quirky familiars. There’s only one way to get out of the looming marriage without risking being ostracized by her pack, and Gray Quinn is the only person that can help.
But when things take a dangerous turn with a surprise twist, will DeeDee risk it all and discover that love can be even more powerful than magic?

Oh oh! I was not expecting to have a different couple as the focus but that was so fun!
The Gist: Deedee is having a male frustration. First she's promised to the son of another wolfpack and her upcoming marriage to the wolf she doesn't know is quickly coming upon her. And now? Now she's having all kinds of sexy feelings for the new wolf in town filming a movie. And that irritates the tar out of her. Especially when he becomes a main suspect in a murder!
Oh Deedee. She's a good one. She's a cop and is all about doing her job right and keeping the town safe. I enjoyed being around her even if she was a bit prickly about the new man in her life. And Cain. He's a little bit of a handful with his movie production and the crazy it brings to town. He's a nice one, though. Sexy and solid even if hiding a few secrets.
The mystery was fantastic. Who killed one of the actors? Was it the director Cain? One of the crew? A town protester or a jilted woman in his life? SO many possibilities and it kept me guessing as Deedee hunted down the truth.
There was a bit of romance as the attraction was fought and the case solved but it kind of slow burned in the background. It worked, though, and I liked the little twist with it and who he was to her. It's kept PG but in the end very sweet.
All in all, Cry Wolf was a blast. A fun set up, fun characters with nice quirks and secrets and just an entertaining para-romp.
This is the 4th book in the Silver Hollow Mystery series which is a cozy type mystery that combines the paranormal (vampires, werewolves, and witches) with a mystery and a little romance. Deputy DeeDee Clawson, who's a werewolf, is the main character in this story. I liked the book, but I thought this one was more focused on DeeDee and Caine's love story than the murder mystery, unlike the previous three books. I missed the four Quinn witches and their familiars, who only made a couple of appearances in the book. This is a clean romance with just kisses. I hope the author writes Grey Quinn's story next.
So far my favourite book of the series. Here the MCs are different to the previous 3 books and I like them more. The story picks from where the last book left, the movie about paranormals is being filmed at an old mansion in Silver Hollow. The setting almost screams that something bad is going to happen. Indeed, the star of the movie was found dead. Here instead of some amateur detective we have a proper investigator, DeeDee, who has lots going on in her life. In the end the investigation helps her to straighten out her problems too. I like the romantic line in this story. Indeed it's cheesy and definitely an insta love, but it so cute!
Cry Wolf (Silver Hollow Mystery #4) by Leighann Dobbs
Nice little summer read. Did I love it? No, definitely not. But I did like it.
First of all -- the summary: The entire gang is back, including Stan Judge, the FBPI agent (Dex's former partner) who is hot to find paranormal activity in Silver Hollow. Also back from book 3 is Caine Hunter, the dashing movie producer, who, much to her dismay, seems to light DeeDee's fire. When a series of disturbances occur on the set, culminating in the death of the lead actor in the movie, DeeDee is in Caine's presence too often for her liking. Who could have killed Tucker Rockwood and why? And will DeeDee ever find her happily ever after.
Okay -- what did I like about the book. Dobbs's characters are very likable. They are well fleshed out and the reader cares about what happens to them. The flow and pacing is good, leading the reader on seamlessly. Great proofing and editing. No cliffhanger ending. Kudos. And this time around, there really was a nice mystery. It wasn't easy to figure out, with the reader only beginning to suspect the truth near the ending. However, the mystery was an aside to the real story, which was DeeDee. It should have been the other way around. It is a mystery series, after all.
So why only three stars. There are a couple of reasons.
The smaller reason is a pet peeve of mine: the use of their as a singular non-gendered pronoun. Yes. I do know that this practice is neither a grammatical error nor is it a new usage. What it is, in my opinion, is a) awkward, and b) lazy on the author's part. Seeing 'their' used when the subject is singular is jarring, which takes the reader out of the story, even if just long enough to say "huh?" before moving on. I'm of the opinion that I would much rather see he/she, her/his, man/woman than the awkward their. In most cases, a simple re-write of the sentence solves the problem. This occurred at about 698 on my Kindle:
In the far corner stood a petite Fae of indeterminate gender who looked equally disorganized, with their shirt on inside out and bright-green hair going every direction.
Again, I am fully aware that this is grammatically correct. What I'm saying is that it is awkward and disjointed and why would an author want either of those two things said about his or her writing? (see what I did there?) Especially when it could easily be fixed by leaving out the word altogether: ...with shirt on inside out and bright-green hair going every direction. Sorry, that was at the beginning of the book and I remembered it all the way to the end. Awkward.
That didn't cost the book a star, however. This second 'unlike' did. First, I'll admit that I knew from the ending of the 3rd book that the 4th book would be about the secondary character, DeeDee, and her upcoming arranged marriage. But the author chose to make this novel, like her last, more about the teenage-like angst of DeeDee and Caine than about the mystery. Okay, DeeDee is a recurring character, who from the beginning has been looking for love, all while knowing she is betrothed to the eldest son of another wolf pack. While I can sympathize with her desire to choose her own husband, I don't want to spend the larger part of the novel sympathizing with her while she uses the mystery I'm reading the novel for as a way of forgetting her woes. Oh, woe is me should have been the title. And, come on, it's a series, we all know that whether she finds true love or not, she will continue in the series. My eyes hurt from so much rolling.
So. This is the last in the series that I have purchased. I think I'm done with Silver Hollow. Like you guys, but, geez, Drama Queens.
Book Title: Cry Wolf (Silver Hollow #4) Release Date: May 23rd!!!! Book Author: Leighann Dobbs and Tracy Douglass Source: Won an ARC copy from the author! Whoo Hoooo!!! Rating: 5 stars
I love being right! (Not that I got it out of my system, onto the review.)
Our favorite characters are back and this time we get to learn more about DeeDee. For the first time ever, our favorite Quinn wasn't at the crime scene, though our favorite cat made an appearance. It was weird at first and then I started laughing. That's how good the beginning was and how it drew me in. A fast and entertaining read.
It was really nice to get inside DeeDee's mind. So much well development as a character for the series. With this story, I started to emphasize with her, understand her more and her need for justice. We also learned more about the packs politics, how anyone has access to all movie props, and Caine Hunter. Caine Hunter was a surprise of a character and you guys will get it after you read the book (don't want to spoil anything). I really loved the forest scene.
The best part is that the authors were able to have a good balance between the crime and the romance. Oh, we got more of the vampire, Ursula. You guys will smile when you see what role she had, besides being the examiner. I wish we did see more of Brimstone-that cat is still a mystery to me! How is that possible? We're on book 4 and I still don't know where he really came from!
I'm hoping the next book will be from the Gray's point of view and him receiving some happiness. He's been lonely for a long time and needs some love. Would be nice to see Cosmo again. Also, would be interesting on how the author would spin that story cause I have no clue on what she has in store for him. ^_^
I hope that I didn't give anything away! I was like- don't talk about this and that. The book isn't released yet.
This book is awesome and is my second favorite in the series so far! The first book still takes first place in my heart.
Enjoy reading the new installment when it comes out on May 23rd!
23 mins · I was afforded the privilege of being an advanced reader of the book Cry Wolf by Leighanne Dobbs and Traci Douglass. This is is a cozy mystery with a paranormal element. Unlike many paranormal mysteries, this one doesn't rely on the paranormal attributes and abilities of the characters. There is no solving of the mystery only through a witch's casting a spell or a werewolf tracking an otherwise impossible to follow trail. Deputy DeeDee Clawson is taking the lead in the investigation into the murder of an actor on a vampire movie set. While trying to find the murderer, she is also trying to solve the mystery of the identity of her fiancé in a marriage arranged by her father. Her father isn't answering his phone or responding to her text messages. A murder, a mysterious fiancé, a really hot suspect and more blonde mistresses then should be allowed; DeeDee has her hands full. Oh, and she is allergic to mistletoe and it's Christmastime and her werewolf sense of smell is not doing her any favours. A fun and and easy read, full of humour and wonderfully layered characters.
Cry Wolf (Silver Hollow Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series Book 4) — Leighann Dobbs, Traci Douglass; Narrator: Amy Rubinate (26 chapters + Epilogue) March 1, 2022
Note: I started to read the android version of the ebook and discovered the pages were out of sequence. Switching to my iPad, I found no issues.
In this book, the Quinns sheriff friend, DeeDee has a stand-alone story. There is not much of the Quinns in this story and much more about DeeDee and her impending marriage to a mystery man that was betrothed to her when she was much younger.
But there is also a murder to solve!
As the story unfolds, the reader finds more about DeeDee and the demons that haunt her past; and there is background on Caine and his sister.
I enjoyed this story a lot more than the last one. I read it/listened to it in one night. The narrator does a very good job of voicing the characters.
In this volume of the series we find our favorite police lady, Dee Dee pondering her upcoming arranged marriage as she solves a new murder at the location of a vampire movie set.
Drawn to the Director, Caine, Dee Dee must continue to remind herself that she is Not attracted to the Director and that he is a Suspect in the killing.
This episode had me wondering if I was reading a murder with a romance or, a romance that had a murder in it. I did page through some of it as it seemed a bit tedious at times.
However, when they got to the Promise Tree...I was hooked. Oh, did I mention that Dee Dee and Caine are both strong werewolves? I won't spoil the scene for you but I was touched by the imagery presented.
I do love this series. And, the murder was solved. I missed the witches a bit. We will see what happens in the next volume.
I listened to it through RGDigital and my library.
I really liked that this book centered on Deputy DeeDee Clawson. The town is not aware that she is a werewolf.
It begins with DeeDee being out od sorts due to her upcoming arranged marriage to keep peace between two packs. DeeDee would like to marry for love but has decided to go through with it to spare her sister from being tagged to fill the slot. Also, if DeeDee refuses she would be ostracized by her pack.
The characters are well rounded and well developed. I liked that the mystery was interwoven with DeeDee trying to solve the death of a film star. She needs to find out who did it. She and Dex work together to resolve this and Caine Hunter saves DeeDee from the killers.
I think this is the best one to date. Looking forward to the next. Hope it’s about Gray.
I like DeeDee Clawson, the werewolf police officer who is one of the Quinn Cousins friends, and this story is all about her. We learn about the ways of her 'pack' and her prearranged marriage dilemma. But wait, there is another mystery to be solved when an actor from the Werewolf movie being filmed in Silver Hollow is murdered. The Prime suspect is the hot producer that DeeDee has feelings for, which is not good at all. This book does not focus on the Quinn Cousins and while I did like it, I much prefer when the story is told from Issy's point of view. Maybe this is the beginning of the rest of the series being told through the others cousins voices as well. Can't wait for the next book!
A great read. DeeDee is out of sorts, her arranged marriage is coming up, there's a film crew in town (and she finds the main man attractive), there are protesters coming out of the woodwork and now the leading man has been found dead. Could things get any worse? Of course and as it's nearly Christmas mistletoe is everywhere. Plus she's allergic to the stuff! Can she actually find out who wanted to kill the victim and why? What secrets are hidden in plain sight? Great well thought out plot with terrific characters to make it come alive.
What a read! Another great installment to this intriguing series.
Deputy DeeDee Clawson, a paranormal….what kind, you need to read this book to find out! In a sleepy little town in New Hampshire called Silver Hollow, Clawson and her “temporary” partner, Special Detective Dex Nolan; from FBPI, are on a quest to find out who killed Tucker Rockwood. Tucker was an actor with a long list of suspects who were not fond of him. Sheriff Owens is in over his head as he didn’t believe so many paranormals existed.
I have really enjoyed this series and Cry Wolf is another great read. I enjoyed learning more about a secondary character DeeDee and how she was able to do what she had to for work and still work out things about her upcoming marriage. I liked how she interacted with the suspects and worked at figuring out who did it and how she worked with her feelings vs what she was supposed to do concerning her family obligations. I highly recommend this book and while it is part of a series, it can be read by it self. I received a copy from the author to read, the review is entirely mine.
A very satisfying read, I'm feeling all warm and tingly inside after that story Dee-Dee is awesome and I loved everything about her story.
Silver Hollow is becoming a new favourite series for me.
Dee-Dee and Caine were fireworks and icebergs from the start it was funny to see them fighting their attraction during a murder investigation but it all worked out in the end and I very much loved the ending.
Finally, DeeDee meets her soulmate. The tension builds with every page as DeeDee investigates a murder involving the movie company that's in town. She is increasingly attracted to the producer/director, Caine Hunter, but knows that she must marry someone else in order to further unite the two wolfpacks. Will she be true to the arranged marriage or will Caine win out?
This fun book is a joy to read and the best in the Silver Hollow series so far. The characters are interesting and the mystery keeps the reader involved. As always, Dobbs has good pacing and the book is well-written and nicely edited.
I won't go into story details because others do it well. This is not expected to be great literature but the book is great for what it's meant to be: well-crafted entertainment. Read it and enjoy!
Deputy and wolf shifter, DeeDee Clawson, and FBPI agent, Dex Nolan, are called to the movie set for a mysterious death. The movie producer is Caine Hunter is also a wolf shifter and while DeeDee's trying to stay away from him there's a deep attraction. The case takes DeeDee and Dex on a round-about path but they do catch their killers. And there's a mystery around Caine that involves DeeDee.
Love this series and am so happy that DeeDee finally got her happy. Great plot, I sure didn't figure this one out ahead of time, was blind to it, so it was a good surprise when the bad guy was revealed. (Intentional misdirects there.) True fan of Leighann Dobbs' works. Keep them coming please.
I really enjoyed reading this book. A womanizing leading man, movie set and crew, and online threading connections, all in a small town full of supernatural residents...what could go wrong? If you enjoy werewolf stories and murder mysteries, this book is right up your alley.
Dee Dee is one awesome deputy and also a kick butt werewolf. We watch he solve murders with the Quinn's and keep all of the paranormal info from getting into the wrong hangs. But now it looks like it might just be time for it to be about her, and this book does a great job of that.
One of the better of the series (so far). As with any books, some parts I found a little weird, but overall the mystery part of it and the love story was really great and unusual. It makes me want to read more of this series and I hope they will include more of this "couple" in the future books. They are interesting.
I enjoy this series very much . The characters feel like old friends . I hope the next story revolves around Gray! Paranormal romance and a cozy mystery ..... so fun!! Looking forward to the next book
I chose this rating because the book is well written, the characters are fun, and the story keeps you guessing to the end. I enjoy Ms. Dobbs wolf, witch series and share them with my friends. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
The Silver Hollow crowd is at it again, let the fun begin
What a great bunch of werewolves, witches and police! Paranormals living, hiding and solving a murder amongst the humans was quite the fun read. Laughs, gasps, neck biting and some romance are all involved.
DeeDee Clawson's story of finding love at last is imaginative and entertaining. Not much of the witches in this book, but a story line that is easy to read and hard to put down before the happy ending. Hoping the next one has Grey finding his true love!
I loved this book, paranormals, shifters and a cozy mystery. All of the characters were fleshed out and I cared about all of them. I read all 4 books in the series so far. I will read more books by Leighann Dobbs in all of the genre's that she writes.
OMG! This book is a wonderful mess of hilarious twists and turns that of course lead to a HEA for someone. Focusing on DeeDee was a nice change of pace but since the cousins help out you don't miss them too much.
This one was all about Dee Dee and the fact that she is promised to a man/wolf of another pack. She's trying to find out who her future husband is, but there's the little matter of murder to solve. Nice and easy read.
This has been a great series. I hated the thought I finished all the series that has been out. Sure hope there will be another or two more to read soon. I just loved this series. And I think you will too.
