Sammy’s new home is everything she dreamed of, but it’s definitely not what she expected. Things go bump in the night, and Sammy has to figure out if there is a ghost haunting her or if it’s something more sinister.
Everything in Samantha’s life seems to be coming together and falling apart at the same time. She’ll have to solve the mystery of Overwatch house before the unknown consumes her.
The final fight is one that will change her, and those she loves, forever. Will Sammy find the conviction she needs to survive her worst nightmare?
Devil Hour is a cozy ghost mystery/horror with no explicit scenes or gore. It’s rated PG-13 for frightening themes.
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
I guess this is one of those books where you have to read half a dozen to find out anything other than the name of the main character and a few friends or whatever.
It was OK, but it never told me who or what was causing the haunting or whatever it was, and nothing about why it was happening. And it was very short. I guess not my cup of tea.
Now don't get me wrong. While I like B movies, Scream being my favorite, this book is creepy like a B movie but misses the mark. If the author would have just filled in a little more of the story and not bounced around so much it would have been a good read. No character development and no real setting. Maybe next book will be better. Sorry to say, unless it's a freebie I'll pass.
It's an ok book, but there were just too many inconsistencies, and no real explanation for the goings on in the house. I prefer my horror to be more intense with a really good backstory.
So many red flags, and not just from the psycho douchebag, Ryder. Characters who are supposed to be college seniors seem more like mid teens. And the cooties are stifling.
Truthfully, this thing is a little too well written. At first, you think the story telling atmosphere is poor writing, but let me assure you, it is not. For whatever reason, this story creeped me out more than many stories out and out labeled horror. And that chatty style? Somehow it contributes to the idea that this thing really happened.
I have one rather large pick with this story. It is definitely NOT a cozy ghost mystery. Anything less cozy can't be imagined and there isn't a ghost in sight. This is horror. Reader beware.
I don't do book reviews........ I read the book and if I liked it I give it up to 5 stars, if I didn't then it gets a 2, if I didn't finish then it's a 1, that's it I'm afraid.
I read it, I like it, I want more from the author.
As with a vast number of Kindle books there might be the odd spelling and punctuation errors. After reading well over 300 Kindle books of all types and subjects you get use to them and they become less noticeable, unless they effect the story.
This is a fantastic short ghost story. Following a college girl in her first apartment we are shown some of the stressor that go with college life. When a girl is asulted in dorms Sammy looks for off campus housing. She finds an old house split into apartments at a cheap price. Strange things start to happen in the house, and to Sammy. Fantastic story cannot wait to read book 2
Samantha moves into her first apartment during her final year of college. Seems great until all the strange occurrences and noises. Is her house haunted...? Or is she?
I wish there was more story on the entity. Where'd it come from? Who's the creepy lady? And the ending was way to quick and easy. I was definitely creeped out reading it though! 😁
This was a traditional okay short story. The characters, other than the main one weren’t very well developed. I don’t plan on reading anymore by this author. This story will pass the time; but doesn’t leave you wanting more. This was a free e-read for me. I can’t recommend paying anything for it.
Creepy, unsettling and scary. Everything I expected it to be. It is well written and edited and the characters are interesting. Regardless of everything being right, I feel like something was missing. Maybe I just needed a different ending. I don't want to be unfair. It is a good story. I have two more books in this series so I'll have to see if it changes.
This book gripped me from the beginning and the story moved along at a great pace. It was creepy and scary but was a bit disappointed in the end. The book builds you up and has you on the edge of seat frightened and then it just kind of hurries through a rather uneventful ending. Still good, though and worth a read.
Ok so don’t read at night!!! This was pretty creepy...I really liked it. A lot of unanswered questions though so I was a bit disappointed. Not bad book...I looking forward to reading more from this author. Happy Reading :)
What an interesting story! It took me a while to get into the story but once I did I wanted to know what would happen with Sam. I intend to read the next book in the series.
Samantha moved into an creepy old house and though she thought it was just her style, she was not prepared for the things that go bump in the night. John is her best friend but wants to be more. She is not sure if she is going crazy or if there really are things out there.
This is an interesting book to read and is a bit hard to categorize. I guess I would call it a cozy horror book, if there is such a category. It has elements of both. I love a good ghost story and also love cozy mysteries so this book just hit the spot for me. The characters are interesting, complete with strengths and weakness. This is the type of book, you have to keep reading to see how things are going to turn out. The book is told from Samantha’s point of view providing the reader with insights into her past, her emotional state, her motivations and her actions. The storyline flows smoothly and is chalked full of creepy experiences, surprises, unexplainable events as the fight between good and evil continues, the suspense grows. I think the series, Things That Go Bump I the Night, is one I am going to really enjoy.
This is an okay story. There are scares and danger. There is no gore. Samantha and her friend move into the house when strange things begin to occur. Samantha has personal demons. The characters change due to their experiences in the house.
Fine, enjoyable paranormal mystery. Samantha is a college girl that wants to move out of the dorm into her own house. With help of her parents, she purchases one half of an old house and gets her friends to help her move in. But the house is not all right. There is some paranormal presence residing, creeping Sammy out and driving her into insanity. Determined to solve the mystery, she does some digging in the past and even buys a cat to not feel alone in the house. Eventually, she gets an idea what might be disturbing her peaceful living. Nice and quite fast-pacing story, with enjoyable characters and slight romantic entanglement. I liked the general atmosphere of the book, the feel of unnatural presence in the air, creating tension and drama in the whole setup. The characters' personalities were a bit pushed into the background, though, except for Sam, and their development sometimes too abrupt. I was also bothered by the typos and errors. Sure, I have read an ARC version, but I experienced the same issue also with previous books that I purchased directly. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story, and decided to provide my honest opinion voluntarily.
