This could have been so much better. 3 Stories that involve more running away and hiding as the action component. Very disappointing, the only reason I did not give this 2 stars I liked the message that each story was trying to send especially to younger readers.

The first story stars Ahsoka, running late oh a particularly important day, but is distracted by something that should have been dealt with a single swing of a lightsaber.

I personally think the second story highlighted Chiwe and Artoo more then Leia. A complete filler story, not really done well or adding anything to Leia's character.

Jyn Erso, story I think was the best of the 3. Unfortunately I kept being teased seeing artwork of Jyn with her tonfas (nightsticks) in han, she never uses them in the story.

A book with a good message in each story, but little or no action and predictable story. Nowhere near as good as volume 1.

This is the second collection of short stories. It can be read as a stand alone as these stories are about a one off adventure of the characters Leia, Ahsoka, and Jyn. These books are meant for young children.

This was much better than the first collection as I believe the author has a grasp on what she is trying to accomplish. These stories are very quick stories that tell about an experience of these characters that occurs to them but doesn't add anything to the overall arc. These stories also tell what these characters are dealing with and their respective atmospheres of the current situation. And that is where this book was better than the first. I thought the first book was streamlined while this book did a much better job at fleshing out the galaxy at the moment. We get to see Ahsoka being a Jedi or Leia taking command at Hoth which isn't the most hospitable environment. My favorite was the Jyn story and the bleak current climate of that world. These stories also show the compassion while displaying the strength of these characters.

As you can see I liked this one compared to the first volume. It had more depth but not at the cost that the target audience would not enjoy it. They should love it while adults will like the brief look into some iconic characters from this universe.

Another quick little read that puts the ladies of Star Wars into the spotlight.

All three of these stories are told in the animated Forces of Destiny series, so while there's not anything truly new, it is nice to get a little more character development for these ladies by getting into their heads and seeing how they think in reaction to danger.

Like the first book, the context is a sit-down with Maz, this time being a chat around a campfire. The moments with Maz are brief, but they once again do a nice job of segueing into the next tale.

All in all, this is another nice read for Star Wars fans young or old, and it does a nice job of showing that you can be a hero even in small ways.

“A tiny voice deep inside her told her—again—to step away. Mind your own business. Keep your head down. Look out for yourself and no one else. But she couldn’t stop. Something about the little girl’s tangled hair, her smudged face… She was alone. That much was clear. Jyn knew what that felt like—to be small and alone in the world.”

Volume 2 of Forces of Destiny's Daring Adventures series continues the short story versions of the children's animated series. This issue focuses on Ahsoka, Leia, and Jyn - all Star Wars ladies that I adore!

This volume continues the valuable life lessons for kids. Ahsoka - it's never the wrong time to do something right; Leia - if you persevere and work together, anything is possible; Jyn - be the person that you needed when you were younger.

One subtle thing that I love about these books is how the art color palette changes for each woman!!! It looks so beautiful and truly captures the vibe of each story and character. Such a nice touch.

Only taking off a star because Anakin losing faith in Ahsoka so quickly in her story didn't seem very in character to me. I understand it was probably to do with his own insecurities about whether or not he was a good master to her... but I wish it was articulated better, and there was more at the end of him realizing he made a mistake thinking that she wasn't ready. It's obviously implied and it's an incredibly sweet moment there between Yoda, Anakin, and Ahsoka - I'm just picky about Anakin and his characterization, and his loyalty to those he loves is so important, especially at that time in his life. But that's just a nitpicky thing for me.

This series is so important, and I'm so glad little girls and boys have these wonderful ladies to look up to!

DC and apparently Star Wars too decided to do a line of just their female characters and direct it to young fans ages 8-11 specifically. Forces of Destiny was Star Wars' hat in that game. And it's fine, it was nice to see more adventures of these beloved characters written by a woman...but as a middle grade book this is just fluff with no substance. Ahsoka saves the day from a rogue droid, Jyn saves a cat, and Leia runs away from a Wampa. Like...these were fine. But they were nothing. This was listed on the official canon book list which is the only reason I picked it up but I do think it's one you can skip.

This book is a novelization of three Forces of Destiny animated shorts—one each on Ahsoka, Leia, and Jyn. I liked how each one showed something about their character, and especially a common trait of risking danger to help someone.

This was a quick read, but an enjoyable one. Three stories in one, focusing on three of my favorite female characters: Ahsoka, Jyn and Leia.

In Ahsoka's story, she was supposed to meet Anakin and Master Yoda for the presentation of her Padawan beads. She was running late, but on the way to the temple she encountered people in need of help. She stopped to assist them, but that made her late for the meeting. When she did finally arrive though, she was rewarded. Yoda saw her actions and brave and humble, and presented her with her beads.

Leia was on Hoth in her tale, rescuing Chewie from a wampa. Leia had to have steady nerve to distract the creature while Chewie and R2D2 quickly constructed a wall to keep the wampa out of Echo Base. By working together, the three friends were able to accomplish their goal.

Jyn likewise was rescuing someone, a young girl and her tooka cat being picked on by Stormtroopers. The girl was singled out for having the cat, which was against the rules. When the Stormtroopers tried to take it away, the cat ran off, and Jyn ran to find it. She was able to assist not only the cat, but it's owner, who thanked Jyn for helping her.

Fun adventures, with great lessons on kindness, friendship and loyalty.

Before they were heroes, Jyn, Ahsoka, and Leia were your everyday people. On her way to deliver some forged documents credits, Jyn encounters some stomrtroopers causing trouble for a young girl over her Tucacat pet. Will she continue her mission or help the young girl? Ahsoka is on her way to an important meeting with Anakin and Yoda, but runs into trouble. Will she make it safely to her destination? When Chewie goes missing while working on the Echo Base, it’s up to Leia to save him. Will she succeed?

Each character is well-developed and face with a plausible problem. The plots are short, engaging, and quick to read. Fans of Star Wars, science fiction, and adventure will enjoy reading this book.

Aiden and I got this after he surprised me with volume 1 from his school book sale
Again, we read it aloud together. We had both seen all these Forces of Destiny episodes so there weren't really any new stories, but these books do let you get in the characters' heads more, and I think the Jyn story may have been expanded a little. Anyway, we still enjoyed it. I think this read a little smoother and moved along faster than volume 1. That one took us several sessions, whereas we finished this one in an hour or so.

30 Books in 30 days - Book 17

2.5/5

This wasn't quite as good as the first collection. Ahsoka is my favourite but her story felt a little pointless. And the other two stories felt a bit similar in the story and what the characters ultimately accomplished in their chapters. I definitely feel you could have done something a little more creative with these big characters, especially Leia. But for an introduction to these characters for younger readers I think the book does a fine job at creating an engaging short story for those younger fans.

The second volume is just as much fun as the first. My kids all enjoyed it. We also watched the corresponding youtube videos and we noted the differences between the book and the video. It's a great way to get your kid into Star Wars, especially if they love the wonderful female characters in Star Wars.

These stories are aimed at a younger audience, but I think the stories are still sweet and valuable to the canon to explore powerful female characters a bit further. I think I liked this one a tad better than the first! The frame story element is nice, and Maz’s dialogue has a very cozy/comforting vibe

3 1/2 Cute novelization of some of the Forces of Destiny cartoon shorts. We started with this one because of Ahsoka & Jyn, two of my kid's favorites. I like the Leia installment because of its nod to the deleted wampa scene in The Empire Strikes Back.

Tells three different stories about women in the Star Wars universe: Ashoka, Leia, and Jyn Erso. All three were from different times and generations in the universe, but each of them is connected by the heroic things they do. A good book for students about 2nd - 4th grade.

Comprised of three stories: Ahsoka in "The Padawan Path", Leia in "Beasts of Echo Base", and Jyn "The Stranger". Very similar to the first volume in that these are prose versions of the animated shorts. The interludes with Maz are marvelous, easily the best parts of the book.

What is it that makes a hero? In this short book, Ahsoka, Leia and Jyn learn that heroes come in all shapes and sizes.

Berne has written a good book for reluctant and emergent readers. The illustrations are nice, but add little to the story.

The last in the series that I gifted to my nieces. I love that there’s always three stories in one book. It’s an empowering set of stories.

The same type of Star Wars story you would expect to get from a Star Wars book for kids, but this time the ladies are the main character. It's not a "girly" Star wars book, just a Star Wars book for kids. I like that. A shout out to United Through Reading who gave us this book for free at the start of the pandemic.

Update: A year later upon a reread for May 4th, my kid showed me this has an animated short on Disney plus. Each story in this book is summed up in a 4 minute episode.
Since this is volume 2, I'm willing to bet Volume 1 is episodes as well.

Another great kid's Star Wars anthology. I loved their different perspectives from female characters, as I especially loved getting to know Jyn Erso. Great book for kids would 100% recommend
