Jennifer M. Eaton hails from the eastern shore of the North American Continent on planet Earth. Yes, regrettably, she is human, but please don’t hold that against her.
While not traipsing through the galaxy looking for specimens for her space moth collection, she lives with her wonderfully supportive husband and three energetic offspring. (And a poodle who runs the spaceport when she’s not around.)
During infrequent excursions to her home planet of Earth, Jennifer enjoys long hikes in the woods, bicycling, swimming, snorkeling, and snuggling up by the fire with a great book; but great adventures are always a short shuttle ride away.
tbh Darious should have done more as her “mentor” he literally left her alone to cope with such a big power.
Estuvo super bien hasta el final cuando el supuesto mentor me sale con “el iba a encontrar la cura del cáncer” y lo de “su hija se iba a convertir en la presidenta que casi acaba con la hambruna” wtf dude be serious.

This was a quick little ebook that felt more like a trailer than a full length movie. I loved Jennifer's Fire in the Woods series and this story has the same amount of action and fish out of water feel.
Wow. Wow. Wow. So much for such a short story! Loved the characters, loved the story, loved the unique superpowers, loved everything! Only thing missing is a little bit of background into the Wardens' lives and their history. Anyway, I really enjoyed this book and highly suggest you to read it! It's packed with action and there's also a great variety of feelings. Eaton's writing style is super fluid and it will take you less than half an hour to get through this one!
Maya was trying diligently to cover her acne breakout, but it just wasn’t doing much good. She put on her glasses and saw a nerd looking back at her. She wished she didn’t need to wear glasses. As she turned to the bathroom door, she banged her head into it and the world blurred! She took off her glasses until the world stopped looking fuzzy and she could see the toilet take its proper shape. But putting her glasses back on, the fuzzy haze returned. She took them off again and suddenly could see a spider web clearly and everything else in the room!
Walking into the kitchen for breakfast, she found they were out of eggs. Figures her mom would write her a note to eat but not leave her anything edible! Even the cereal had less than a handful left. So she went back to the fridge and there sat 3 eggs! Running for the bus, once again she was late and the bus drove away. But suddenly it stopped and the doors opened! A substitute bus driver had seen her sad look and figured this was her bus – so he stopped to pick her up! What a strange day this was turning into!
Oddly, or perhaps not strange for this crazy day, Maya was called to the office to meet with a college recruiter! She hadn’t even applied for any colleges? He didn’t even mention colleges, yet he seemed to know about her odd day, which scared her, and she turned to leave – but the door opened to the blowing sands of Egypt! The man said his name was Darius and he was her mentor. And her strange day was actually caused by HER!
Maya continued to deny that she was anyone special, and denied any possibility that she had some kind of powers. But she did, and the responsibility to take care of whatever major event was coming – the reason her powers had come out so early – was something she would have to accept. She would be drawn wherever this huge occurrence would appear within her “realm”, and she would basically decide the outcome – which could affect individuals or even the entire world! Darius could not interfere. This was her duty as a warden. What was coming? How could she deal with this, knowing how huge the consequences of her decisions could be? Would she make the right choices? And could she control such a power without letting it tempt her to abuse it as she learned how to accept her new role?
For a short book, this was action-packed and fast-paced! Important life decisions had to be made and it was good for us to see how Maya would choose now that everything was possible and in her hands. I hope the author will re-visit this one and give us a longer adventure! I voluntarily read a review copy of this book and my comments reflect my honest opinion.
Geeky schoolgirl Maya is having a very unusual day - for a start she can now see better without her glasses than with them, even though the reverse was true until the night before. Then her secret crush Eric dumps his cheerleader girlfriend and asks her if she's wearing contacts and then if she'll be his date for the school dance. Maya's thrilled but also perplexed until she meets her new mentor Darius, who just happens to be a Warden - which apparently she is too!
What does Maya decide to do at first about her new powers? Does she believe what Darius tells her? How can Maya bring about what she desires? What happens at the stadium ? What decision does Maya have to make on the spur of the moment? Is it the right decision?
Jennifer M Eaton's inventive book is almost like a fairytale as it introduces Maya and her heritage as a very special young lady, with a new daunting yet exciting alternative reality to choose whether to accept or carry on with her mundane, half-blind previous existence. Which will she embrace? You'll have to buy it and find out for yourself - I guarantee it will be well worth the asking price!
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. It’s about a geeky awkward girl Who wakes up one day to find out everything she wishes for comes true. When she goes to school and the boys she’s been crushing on since grade school suddenly takes an interest in her she’s wondering if it’s something to do with these wishes keep seem to be coming true. When she’s called to the principals office She meets a man who says he is there to inform her that she is a warden and something catastrophic is going to happen and she’s suppose to use her magical powers to control the damage. That’s why she’s been given these powers. When she thinks her crush is only with her because of her wish she wishes she didn’t have the powers anymore but when she discovers he’s liked her for awhile and it wasn’t the powers she’s confused. When the catastrophe happens and she’s powerless to stop it she wishes for her powers back and realizes they weren’t a Curse but a blessing. This was a short story that I really enjoyed. I recommend this book and this author.
I got this book as a free promotion. There were 5 chapters and I thought it was just the first five chapters of the book, like a sneak peak. So I was intrigued and wanted to know what happens for the rest of the book! Now, as I'm looking at the information, I think there may have actually only been 5 chapters and that's it. I felt like this just ended abruptly and I'm left disappointed and feeling like the story was only half written. Is there supposed to be more at some point?? I sure hope so because I really wanted to know what happened once Maya fully accepted her powers, other than saving with the plane crash! The plane crash was just the beginning and then suddenly the story was over.
Great piece of coming of age speculative fiction by this indie author. Loved the Spider Man feel to it and Maya's voice as she realizes she can have anything she wants :-)Add this one to your must read Indie list for 2014!

Total Score: 5/5
Summary: Maya is your average teen trying to make it through high school hoping against hope to catch the eye of your crush Eric. Eric is a popular guy who has the attention of the head cheerleader who will not be happy of anyone who gets his attention. Now if that wasn’t difficult enough, anything Maya wishes for comes true bringing both good and bad for Maya. Imagine whatever you think happens making Maya afraid to think about anything. All of a sudden Eric begins to pay attention to Maya making her wonder if it is for free or what she wants. Add to the confusion add Darius who explains what is happening to Maya and why this is happening.
IF you had the choice to get whatever you wanted or to be loved for who you really are what would you choose. This was a fascinating short story that takes the reader back to high school with a unique twist. I look forward to reading more stories by Mz. Eaton
Maya is the invisible girl. No one really notices her, she wears glasses and struggles with acne. Until today. All of a sudden she can see without her glasses, her skin clears up and her hair becomes full, thick and shiny. And then there's Eric. He notices her. He talks to her. He seeks her out! What the hell is going on? Maya soon learns that everything she thinks, everything she wishes for, is coming true. But what is the purpose of this? And why the hell is it happening now?! She soon learns the weight of the power she possesses. They do say, be careful what you wish for.
I actually enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. Maya was likeable enough, I guess I could sympathise with her in a way as I felt super invisible for most of my life up until my early 20s. She's just a teenage girl struggling with teenage life and Eaton portrays it well.
The whole idea of Wardens was well thought out and executed, I felt. The revelation that Maya has is believable and I love the moral question it poses. What would happen if every thought you had came to pass? Would you be as good or as terrible as you think you are? I believe it also lends weight to, really THINK about what you're saying (or in this case thinking). If everything you thought came to pass, what would your life and the lives of those around you look like? Yes when you get grounded you may say "I wish you were dead" But what if it happened? I think it raises a glass to the saying of "think before you speak" which a lot of people could really learn from. Things said, or in this case thought, in a moment of intense irritation, passion, anger, can have lasting consequences that cannot be undone.
I'm interested in checking out the rest of this series and seeing where the story goes from here.
This is a short story about a girl, Maya, who has to make a monumental decision no teenager should have to make. The storyline starts with her trying to cover a zit on her forehead, typical teenage stuff. Suddenly things start to happen, she wished she didn’t need glasses and guess what, her eyesight improves - no mor glasses. At breakfast she finds eggs just like she wished for. More small and not so small thoughts come true with positive results and some have unplanned negative consequences.
A man names Darius reveals to her that she is a Warden. Each Warden has their own area to monitor and make decisions to help predetermined events from having horrific consequences. The only problem is he doesn’t tell her how to control her power and her thoughts/wishes were coming true with unintentional results. When she discovers she does have to keep the power, that she can wish away her power, she doesn’t have to be a Warden. Does she give up the right to help the world or is she too scared to accept her gift.
This is an interesting short story that tells a story about a new kind of paranormal species. The types of decisions they have to make and the fact that there are consequences to each one. It is the ultimate scary type of power, good and bad.
The book develops Maya’s characteristics in a believable way as the events surrounding her life evolve. I found the story flowed well and was an easy read. I recommend this book for those who love paranormal characters and young adult books. I think the author meets her goals.
Maya made it to Timber Creek HS (Chargers). Mrs. Gracey (English) asked the class how they were doing reading Dante’s Inferno. Darius a college recruiter had come to see Maya. He was going to be her guide/mentor. Eric Brighton (cross country), was Maya’s Trigonometry tutor. A plane had crashed into the Timber Creek HS Chargers football field.
Eric (student), & Tommy Moore (student, nerd) were heling with casualties. Maya had returned.
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.
A very awesome book cover, & great font/writing style. A fairly well written paranormal book. It wasn’t always very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish, but never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great paranormal movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. It was just OK for me so I will rate it at 3/5 stars.

One day average teenager Maya wakes up to find all her wishes come true. Literally. She wishes - it happens. Clear skin, ditch the glasses, hot boyfriend... And then there are all those nasty thoughtless things that she "wishes" would happen. People can get hurt. Turns out she's a Warden; someone with the power to change the world... but only if she can work out how.
I found the breathless pace of narration a bit much. Maya's a vain, ditzy teenager with rather vague wish magic abilities, and her school frenemies are the usual high-school bunch (the jock, the cheerleader etc). There are some events that seem to have minimal negative consequences, and the climax felt a bit too convenient. A nice idea of a story with the "with great power comes great responsibility" theme, but perhaps a little rushed in the telling.
(Just to note that the second 50% of the ebook edition is a preview of another book)
FROM GEEK TO GODDESS!!! Wow! If you're looking for a wild ride on a fast track, yep, right here. This is one fast pace, action packed, smooth flowing read that captures your attention from the start. With a whirlwind of emotions and unexpected surprises that grabs your attention and holds it till the last word. The characters and scenes were intriguing and complex. I followed fascinated as the characters and their personalities transformed and blended. The scenes were so realistic with such graphic detailed descriptions they come alive before your eyes. A solid storyline takes you on an adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat as well as eyes focused on the pages. Eaton draws us into her imagination and creates a world thats guaranteed to keep you captivated until the end. Remarkable job Eaton. Thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
This was okay. * Maya finds out that her wishes are coming true because she's a Warden, and she'll need her power to solve a problem at some point. * Maya then gets all flustered because she keeps accidentally wishing for things, and gives up her power (even though the things she's supposed to fix hasn't happened yet). * Then the event happens and she's powerless to stop it (duh!) * Maya irritated me a bit with this obsession with this guy Eric, who she thought only liked her because of her wishes, and giving up her powers because of a boy just seemed ridiculous!! Especially when she had no idea what this event would be!! How short-sighted can you get? * It also annoyed me that * The event was a bit weird as well * And the cheerleader totally deserved what she got.
A quick read. About a teenage girl wishing this and that. One morning she wakes up and does the same wishing and bam it happens. But what will happen when some of her wishes are not good ones, can she live with herself? Than a boy she has liked for years starts showing more interest in her, but she does not know if it is real or not now that she has this power. What can she do to get rid of it? Should she get rid of it and learn to control what she thinks? I received an arc copy for my honest review.
I won this book (kindle version) on Goodreads and Amazon for an honest review.
This is a very quick paced read and a short book that I hope becomes a bigger book soon! I found this enjoyable and very intriguing, well written with plenty to keep you nailed to your seat and turning page after page. I do hope this author keeps this one going!
I really enjoyed this short entertaining read! I could really relate to Maya because I felt the same way as a teen. This story proves that it's always important to be careful what you wish for because you may not always be aware of all potential repercussions. This was my first book by Jennifer M. Eaton and it won't be my last!
This book has some excitement and a positive energy that I like. Maya is a great main character and I like her development as she learns who she is and what she can do. I do think this is geared towards a younger audience, and it succeeds in making you think (or rethink) your own decisions and what the repercussions may be.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
All she wants is love, then one day everything changes and he finally noticed her. Then a man appears and tells her she is a superhero but she does not want to know. So she tries to escape it. This tale help you to see that to achieve anything you need to believe in yourself
A fine short read. I have read some similar concept before. Though this was just a prequel and not really a very good one to be truthful , I' like to read the first book in this series someday. Hope it is good.
What an amazing action packed short story. Imagine waking up and finding out you have powers that seem to make your wishes come true. What a day Maya is having. She is totally overwhelmed with it all. What will she do? Grab the book and enjoy Maya’s story. Highly recommend.
As described, a quick read that gives a glimpse into the realm of the Wardons. Very exciting and informative. Every review here will rehash the storyline ad nauseam but I encourage you to read the story yourself, afterall the author tells it best.
Maya's live changes over night and it takes her sometime to realize that all her wishes come true. Yes, all of them, even the bad once, just thought quickly. After the initial joy Maja realises that power comes with responsibility, and almost to late.
