descriptionThis is an OK cover. A fairly decent representation of the hero. Interesting typography. Pretty good composition. I would have moved the author's name up higher to sit under the title and the tagline. But overall it works.description

description So I have to admit I wasn't sure what I was going to get going into this one. It sounded like a dark romance right up my alley, but that isn't really what this turned out to be at all. While this didn't turn out to be dark in the least, it did turn out to be a cracking good read.

description

It was well written. It had an interesting plot. It had twists and turns. It had a couple of very likable main characters. It had some interesting side characters. It had smokin' hot sex scenes. It had humor (especially in the second half). As for the overall pace of the book, it falls into two different halves. The first half was a bit up and down pace wise for me. I found it dragged a bit in places. When we hit 50% though this one takes off like a ROCKET. The last 50% of this book reads very much like an action movie. Think a bit along the lines of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Both the main characters really come into their own in the second half of the book. The banter between these two had me in stitches. I wasn't overly crazy about a certain aspect of the ending, but it was all wrapped up in a sweet epilogue.

Two thumbs up from yours truly.description

Sleeping with the enemy!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎
Character development: ☹️😳🥺☺️🥰

The heroine: Roshelle - after suspecting that her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend and roommate, she tracks them to a nightclub and confronts them. Crying hysterically, she runs for the exit only to find herself locked out of the club in an alley where she witnesses a murder.

The Hero: Mack - he is a nautical engineer on a container ship along with some shady characters. He is a 6’4” muscular tattooed handsome man of mystery.

The Story: Roshelle fights like crazy after being put in a trunk until she is drugged and wakes up tied to a bed on a container ship 50 miles out to sea, about to be gang raped. When the leader decides to keep her for himself. Mack is not a nice man and Rochelle finds she can take her chances with him or with the rest of the crew.

Mack ends up treating Roshelle much differently than originally expected. He doesn’t want to be bothered with what having her aboard means, but he doesn’t want to let the rest of the crew have her either. He likes her fight and spunk. He tells her that if she wants to survive, she has to play along.

This book was told in dual points of view via duet narration which is the best. Duet narration is where the male narrator does all the male parts and the female narrator does all the female parts. The narration is done by Robyn Verne and Jack Stella who both do a wonderful job. Robyn has a strong clear voice which matches Roshelle perfectly and Jack has a deep and very gravely voice which goes good with Mack, our man of mystery.

“This is bad boy heaven in all its glory!”

The story on this one was surprising. It was a captive romance, with a very different kind of captor and there were quite a few things going on aboard the ship that were unusual and very intriguing. This was a very original and unpredictable story and it was super steamy. There was a ton of chemistry between the two main characters. I loved the fact that everything you originally thought gets turned around in this one. Every bit of this one was original and unpredictable!

Play Along is a new contemporary standalone novel by T.L. Swan, I've not read anything previously by this author so I was keen to see what kind of journey this book takes me on. Huge tick for the cover, so eye catching.

Going by the ‘Synopsis’ it kind of leads you to believe that you're going to be on a dark, gritty read, kidnapped, held hostage, but nothing and I mean nothing prepared me for what I got instead, because that synopsis is misleading as all hell. You kind of question everything, and I mean everything. Who is playing who?

The beginning got me hooked, then it kind of flatlined BUT as soon as I reached the half way mark I was hooked again, twists and turns that I never saw coming had me sitting on the edge of my seat, the suspense killed me, the scorching hot intimate scenes with these two had me devouring the pages.

Rosh's character took me by surprise, which I’m not really going to give too much detail about as it’s best to read this yourself without spoilers being divulged. But she’s not your weak minded heroine one would expect in the situation she was in.

PLAY ALONG: Nothing prepared Roshelle (Rosh) for the ultimate betrayal of her boyfriend and her best friend after she followed them to a nightclub and seeing them in a compromised position with locked lips confronting them sees her storming for the first exist she sees.
Only once outside she witnesses a murder.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Things take a turn for the worst, as collateral damage the five men who killed in cold blood throw her in the trunk of their car. Terror races through her mind, dread clouds her vision, two words sum up her situation ‘She’s fucked’ not knowing what’s to become of her she can only keep her wits about her and devise a plan to get out of this situation. Then blackness surrounds her as she loses consciousness, the next time she wakes up is naked on a bed, told she is on a container ship with no way of escape unless she wants to be eaten by sharks.

Mac’s bad-a criminal, even, but he has saved my life and offered me protection when I desperately needed it.

Her captor is a handsome man that goes by the name of Mac a Nautical Engineer on the ship, he’s tall and muscular with honey blond hair and olive skin with large brown eyes.
The only way to keep her safe from harm is for him to get her to play along with the game of him claiming her as his, but how far will they take this game before the lines are blurred?

I think we are a little bit different, you and I.
WE both think that we want good.
But the reality is, we both crave bad.
I think, in each other, we see a little bit of bad.
That little bit of fucked up we both desire.
And it's the crazy in you that I crave.

So to sum it all up, if you're after something a wee bit different to sink your teeth into, something unique and out of the norm definitely one click this come release day!!

I was kind of hesitant to start this book. I had the ARC, but you know that moment when a book totally calls to you? And you just need to read it? Well, yeah this book wasn't doing it for me. But the review posting date was drawing near, I had to start this book. So there we go.

Somewhere about 3% in, Roshelle (that is so weird a name that I just can't fucking pronounce it!) gets kidnapped by the people she saw kill a man when she was running from her boyfriend, who she caught cheating on her with her best-friend of 5 years.

Someone's having a bad bad day.

My first reaction was "waa-waa, here goes another idiot getting herself kidnapped as a result of her overly stupid actions" and the next was "I really don't like damsel in fucking distresses."

But then, the next one is what matters. Because I went all "Holy fucking god in tuna can!" She took down 4 trained men she just saw kill a man with the help of a metal rod, and a classic knee to the balls.

I repeat 4 trained men!

Yeah well here's the thing, I'm a girl (biiiig reveal on that one). And as one, I absolutely LOVE when I see another being of my gender take down another being from my opposite gender when he gets too entitled. And isn't that what rapists/kidnappers are any ways? Sadistic entitled assholes (that always have a sad sob story in the story books), that do not value human life? (Until the one comes around that is. Then they become susceptible to unicorn magic and rainbow pooping skills.)

I mean, bitch if you don't care for a woman's life and her dignity and her consent, I don't care for the future of your million sperms. Girl could light them on fire, and I'll freaking provide her with the lighter or gasoline. Even if she goes all Joker on your ass and keeps bringing you back to life only to torture you to death, again and again.

So yeah, I think you get my point. I love Rochelle. Girl's a badass.

I decided that moment itself that no matter what, this book was getting a 4 star from me just because of Rochelle.

But then the book got better! I mean obviously it did, it had just begun, and it would've been an utter shame if you messed it up after making the reader like it so much.

OK let's move on from how much I like dismembering idiotic men, to this story.

After being kidnapped and knocked out, Rochelle wakes up in a strange room, naked with a scary looking man- Mac/Stace. Trapped between being in a room with him, and braving a mob of sexually depraved rapists, she chooses to stay in.

From there on it's pretty much the standard equation of edgy romance.

(two attractive people + close quarters + nudity) x danger = SEXUAL FRUSTRATION + emotions (added side product because this is a romance book) + sex (because it did have the 18+ warning, I think.)

Come on! Do the math people!

Usually that equation would also have a + HEA to that, but Swan decided to not play along with the rules. (You see what I did there? :D )

Just when you think the book is about to end, Rochelle shows you how batshit crazy that chick is. Bitch straight up shoots the guy who's the main antagonist of the story. Or at least the person she mistakens as the main antagonist. Turns out it's someone else. #SpoilerAlert

From then on the book straight up takes a U-turn on the genre lane, and goes from edgy/taboo romance to... thriller? I seriously shit you not. After about 50%, it becomes a thrilling chase with a lot of sex.

Do you have my approval?

Suddenly we have a crazy-in-love and generally just crazy Roch and Stace running all over America trying to escape the bad men. (I could tell you who they are, but I think I've given you enough spoilers as it is. I'll get fined if I gave more away :P )

Am I talking too much about Roch? I feel like I'm talking too much about Roch.

Let's balance it out and pay more attention to the other half of this duo- Stace.

Stace was a complicated man in some ways, and in other very simple. He was a good guy in a bad situation (one of the most believable things I've read in all my experience of reading this genre). He sees Roch, and feels an overwhelming alien need to protect her. You know how this goes. What I really liked the most about him was how different he was from the usual men in this genre. He wasn't hardened by his life, and did not feel the need to pointlessly point out to Roch that he didn't deserve her. On the contrary though, he wanted to become a better man for her from the very beginning of their relationships. I felt like he complemented Roch's craziness to a perfect T.

And I really can't talk about their perfect match, without talking about the sex. It was SO FUCKING HOT!!! Seriously, the sex was panty-melting, insta-orgasm, hard and dirty sex.

If I ever find Stace in a dark alley?

This book was just the kind of book I love to read because it not only had a few surprises up it's sleeves, but also had the guts to go with 'usually' unusual characters. The story in my opinion felt complete. Something that did not give me the feeling of "it could've been better with some more". And although it wasn't that dark, or dark at all, I really loved this book. It crazy, exciting, and completely enthralling. First book by TL Swan, and I've been swept from my feet. Kudos to you woman. Kudos to you.

She's brave enough to be dangerous and yet vulnerable enough to die.

No rating here since I didn't finish. Sadly the writing style just didn't click with me. The concept of the story was intriguing and I could see what the author wanted to accomplish with it but I just wasn't pulled in. I expected a much darker story than I got, but that's on me since that's an assumption I made from the blurb.

Ultimately, the monologue was too awkward for my tastes with some of the phrases that were used and the way the heroine in specific came across. I also struggled to feel the connection between the hero and heroine. As curious as I was to see how it all ends, sometimes when a book isn't for you, you know early enough. I'm sure many will love this one and I encourage you to give it a shot if you're intrigued by the blurb. I'm likely the odd duck out so don't let my experience color yours ;)

I read many good reviews for Play Along. I was very pessimistic when I picked up the book.

Let me just say this: I am not getting used to Miss Swan writing. Her writing moving too fast in a plot that I barely catching up.

I do not say this is a bad book since I do not know how to feel about this book. On the other hand, I also can not enjoy the book.

6 "BADASS HEROINE" stars!

My reaction when I read this book told in a Jon Stewart gifs ;

I have always liked the abduction themed so when the book start right off the bat with her being kidnapped, I just can't help but feeling giddy yess!

description

Heroine actually beat the heck outta 5 steroid guys and I'm like "THAT'S THE SHIT GURL"

description

But then, the hero turns out to be ONE OF THE BAD GUYS (and he's one of the most good looking in the group so that's a given)

description

They somehow developed feelings towards each other but having trust issues because both of them are clearly keeping secrets and keep telling lies

description

Heroine saves the day and managed to escape the boa.....ship eventually both of them are in a run from the mess they created

description

and it just keeps getting better and better and I especially loved the part where they got off the ship and start romancing along the way with action as the sidekick. It's freaking James Bond dude!

This book made me feels like I'M WATCHING A FREAKING ACTION MOVIE WITH A BADASS HEROINE
She's witty, sarcastic, funny, highly intelligent and capable to take down a whole group of huge men, but underneath all that she's insecure, timid and just vulnerable.
I loved being inside her mind I freaking do.

description

I'm already in the fucking car on the way to the second location. I begin to get mad, like, furious mad. How dare they? I've had a really fucking bad night and I'm not in the mood for this shit. After about twenty minutes and sixty attack plans, the car slows down and goes over speed bumps.

He assures me that he has always worn them and that I am the first, but doesn't every guy say that to stupid girls who get lost in the moment?

I glare at her for ogling my man. I'm still here you know? How rude? I mean, yes,
sure he's hot, but he's also my fucking pretend boyfriend. Eyes off, slut

The hero.....sigh.........I love my man to be over-protective and Mac is clearly that. I love how he goes all caveman towards his woman and the fact that he is not a saint at all and the past screwed him up real bad just adds to the charms <3

"Yes, I want fucking kids." He picks me up and throws me onto the bed and I bounce with a laugh. He crawls up over me and rests on his elbow as he looks down at me. We fall serious suddenly.
"What kind of father will you be?" I ask.
"The kind that protects their mother."

SWOON

There are so many questions bouncing around it keeps me on the edge because both characters make me question myself what the fuck are they hiding ? What are their plans ? Why are they being very secretive towards us readers ?? and the best part is the revelation. BEST DAMN ONE.

Both characters slowly opened up their hearts and we get a glimpse of what is their lives before all this madness and that's character developments over there!!
Don't get me started with their lifeline role play that was the best part author, brilliant! <3 and now my expectations are so damn high I don't even know how I'm going to like other books after this one.

This is my honest reaction towards the book (and also the last part is Mac's) ;)

DNF at 44%

I don't know how this supposed-to-be dark novel became cheesy and cringey. It was great on the first part but it changed; the atmosphere, mood and writing style became dull and boring. The shift of mood isn't for me... I'm also confused with how the story goes. So yeah, this book isn't for me.

I have no idea how this book has such high ratings. It’s terrible. Ok yeah, this book is spicy... but man is it ALL over the place! It’s pretty cringe worthy. The way it’s written and edited make it hard to tell who is supposed to be speaking and the flow is just way off at times. I also think the author changed the plot like a million times. Every chapter I feel like the characters are completely different. I only got about 33% in and decided to DNF. And someone on booktok recommended this as a good read. What???

What a bonkers story! But entertaining, nonetheless 😂

I can’t help not to think that Ms. Swan suddenly got an idea for this story, she write it immediately and have fun with it! And we’re go along with her while reading it 😂
I believe this one is her earlier book, so I’m not too complaining with some unbelievable things happening here.

If you just want a kickass heroine with a fun bizarre story, this might be for you 😘

People should know, and I wouldn’t consider this a spoiler because it happens in the first chapter: the male main character RAPES the female main character.
She wakes up naked and tied to a bed, and the guy has performed oral on her when she was unconscious.
No dubious consent, no consensual non-consent - STRAIGHT UP RAPE.

I realize the genre of erotic romance is full of scenes that contain dubcon, and that's fine. I myself enjoy several books with these kinds of situations. But that's not what this was. And there was NO WARNING.

I found that deeply offensive. Frankly, I'm pissed off. So I didn't even finish the first chapter. As soon as this scene came up, I returned the book.

If people want to read a love story that starts with rape, fine, I don’t judge. It's fiction. But warn those of us who don't. The lack of warning leads me to believe the author didn't see what happens as rape. And that's unacceptable.

Shame on you, Ms Swan.

Wow well how to begin I just finished reading the book it is 1:04 am eastern standard time. Took me about four hours to get through the book without stopping yes ladies it was that freaking good. I’m surprise by this author since I have read all of her books she truly is versatile within her writing style. If you have read from TL Swan you know that she has different books like the Stanton Series, Find Me Alastar and now Play Along which all are different in their own way. After reading this I now know that she can basically writing in any genre if wanted and blow it out the park.

This story line was quite unique I had read the first two chapter in her Facebook group so I had a inkling idea of how it was going to start. I thought this was going to be a dark intense read. I was wrong about one thing It was not dark, but it was intense it keeps you at the edge of your seat throughout the whole book. The Characters are so complex that they have you thinking if you will ever know who they really are. What I loved is how interlaced they are with one another after it messy, complicated, thrilling, but hey thats they way a forever love is suppose to feel like am I right?

I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone who love a good Romance thriller, because this is what this really is. I could say more, But I don’t want to give an spoilers just go read it you won’t regret it will leaving you reeling, but content at the end.

I Voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book

This was my first book by this author and I enjoyed it.

Full of drama, twists and turns. Surprises that I think you don't expect. Everything about this book makes you think it was a dark romance. But not that much. It had everything you would want in a good book.

This is one of those books that has you hooked from the beginning and then just keeps pulling you in. That you just can't stop reading and you want to know what's going to happen in the end. The Suspense will kill you...

Also makes it difficult to review as you don't want to give the whole story away.

But definitely a book I would recommend to everyone who loves suspense drama filled book!

Lately it's been taking me weeks to finish a single book. But every once in a while you stumble on a jewel that has you find yourself even sneaking in reading a few pages at work. That jewel is Play Along. TL Swan is an amazing writer with an ability to pull you into the story and leaving you breathless at the end. Play Along was intense from the get-go. You go through emotions of shock, anger, disgust, hope, lust! Did I mention lust? The chemistry between Stace and Rosh is electrifying. The storyline was well thought out and had me thinking WTF on more than on occassion. And by the end of it I had to switch off the light because I was as tired as the characters must have been at some point. This book is a must read!

Play Along by T. L. Swan is a dark romance novel that is dark and naughty.

"...if you want to survive, you need to play along.”

If books had claws, Play Along would be packing them Freddy Krueger style. Woah! This book sank them in deep and quick and would not let go.

"...you are a part of me. You’re the part I can’t live without.”

Rochelle and Mac were quite the mysterious pair. Meeting after a night gone wrong for both of them, they find themselves entranced with each other. Physically and emotionally, they take from one another as they also let go of small pieces of themselves and just live.

“I’m the gate keeper of Hell, baby. Welcome home.”

This story was so freakishly hot! The arousal that drifted from the pages of the story was a tempting and sensuous treat. These two could not get enough of each other. Even when there weren't touching, just with slight looks, the temperature rose to heat stroke levels.

The twists in the story were quite clever, not always dealing with the here and now. This kept me vigorously reading and pondering how all of the pieces of this puzzle would come together. As each piece was precisely placed, I found myself experiencing emotions at moments that I did not expect: sadness, hilarity, and then more exhilaration. It was a fabulous race against the clock until the end! I loved it!

Rosh had a bad childhood. Her mother passed away and her father, an abusing control freak, left when she was a kid. Now her boyfriend betrayed her with her best friend. The night she found out about their betrayal, she also saw something else. She witnessed some one was killed and now they kidnapped her. one of them is Stace. He and she have a deal. Play along! Until she plays along and pretends she is with Stace, the others leave her alone but Stace and Rosh have secrets in their lives.

I thought this story is Dark but it was more action than dark. I mean it wasn’t dark at all. But I was okay with it. Those main characters were so likable, specially Rosh! She was a really badass. She could really fight! She was strong, crazy, unpredictable and yet vulnerable. They both protect each other (not just one of them). The story-line was perfect and well-paced; the characters were well-defined. The story told in dual POV, 1st person. All in all, it was an enjoyable read and I hope you enjoy it too!

TL Swan amazes me every time, her books are just way above 5 star rating. Each and every book is in a league of it's own, just when you think it can't possibly get any better she releases a new book and again it's a 5 star plus read.

Play along had everything.

It was sad, it had laugh out loud moments, it had suspense. It's just an all around great read.

This beautifully written book has it all, romance, sex, alpha male, kickass female, suspense, angst, goodies and baddies, and all these combined with a superb storyline leaves you with a book that grabs you by the short and curlies from the first page to the very last word. Another awesome read from a very talented author.

I loved Play Along!
I was hooked from the very first sentence.
I fell in love with Mac and Rosh from the very start!
Mac is mysterious and different than the rest of his crew.
He's a sexy badass that I was supposed to not like because of
how I met him but I just couldn't!
Rosh is a sassy feisty young lady that I admired and fell in love with!
The characters are awesome! They are well developed and intriguing.
The plot is outstanding!
I thought I had things figured out only to find I was wrong. Then again
I think yep I'm right now and know exactly how things are, wrong again!
Didn't know who was what or how the story would go and that was great!
Because there's no way to guess or predict about the story or the characters!
Play Along had everything I love in a book.
Pain, loss, anger, anguish, suspense, happiness, love, laughter (there were some scenes that
truly had me lol) and is sexy as sin!
Omg the sexual tension between Mac and Rosh was incredible and had me at the edge of
my seat!
This book also is steamy and passionate! Mac and Rosh's sexy love life was incredible!
Everything they did together was steamy and sensual. Their passion for one another was beautiful!
This book is pure perfection!
From the characters, the plot the writing everything was just brilliant!
