Twenty-nine year old Hannah Parker has been spinning out of control ever since her mother died a year and a half ago. She feels abandoned and alone, and drinking and partying with her wild friends is the only thing that makes her feel better. And then her father makes things worse when he hires her a bodyguard.
Taking the job as a bodyguard seemed like a good plan to Parker Jones when he needed some time off from the army. But nothing about protecting Hannah is easy, not her temper tantrums, her sneaking out of the house or her need to be wasted all the time. But what if there’s more to her, more than the party animal she shows to everyone?
I really liked the premise of the story, the grounded bodyguard protecting the rich woman. And I really liked Parker. He was such a good guy, almost sweet. And I liked how hard he tried to help Hannah, how understanding he tried to be when she was acting out.
Now Hannah was a complete emotional MESS. I totally felt her pain of losing her mother and her father shutting her out instead of being there for her, it was very sad. But I had a hard time understanding her actions when I compared it to her age. People deal differently with loss and pain, but Hannah was so OTT with her temper, and her neediness, that I just sadly couldn’t warm up to her.
When it comes to novellas it’s to be expected that everything will happen quickly, but because of the way Hannah acted I just couldn’t understand why Parker was attracted to her and therefor unfortunately the romance just didn’t work for me. I did really liked the sweet and romantic ending though.
A sometimes sweet novella, with a really great ending.
