Otherlife Awakenings
Runner and his team managed to bring peace to Tirtius, successfully log the crew out, and have begun settling in to make a home on the isle of Vix. North Wood fort itself.
Fate isn’t going to let them go that easily though. She clearly hasn't decided on what to do with him.
Plots are in motion. Threats local, outside of the ship, divine, and abroad in game scheme to exterminate Runner and the threat he represents. The possibility of what he could become.
To top it all off, the server is clearly ramping up towards a full awakening. What does one do with an entire world of “living” beings who are aware?
It all comes to a head when an assassin attempts to take his life in his own home.
Now comes the true test.
What is he willing to wager to build the future he wants, both in game and out?

I felt like Otherlife Awakenings was a weak finish to William D. Arand's Selfless Hero trilogy. This started out as a fairly decent LitRPG series that mixed a bit of action and fun worldbuilding with some light haremy romance. It was easy reading as the world was fun, Runner was a likeable lead character, and Arand's writing is fairly engaging. Unfortunately the flaws in the series have been worsening by the book and here in this third instalment they began tipping more and more often into unbearable levels.
The story was more of the same. Runner continued to build his power base and increase his own personal power levels. He had to unite the lands of Tirtius all while fighting off the threat of an invading army from the mainland and the followers of rivals Gods. The story was OK but nothing special. I'm fine with overpowered heroes so had no problem with Runner growing into a God of Gods but it is probably a good thing this series wrapped up when it did as by the end Runner was so powerful he could even defeat Gods without breaking a sweat.
This series has always been male wish fulfilment power fantasy but I feel Arand went over board with the concept in this one to the point it all got a bit stupid. Runner gained too much power too quickly and I felt like that killed a bit of the tension in the story. The plot was also heavy on the war and politicking so a bit of the adventure from the early books was lost. The harem element of the story has always been a bit ridiculous and eye roll inducing but during the first book I felt like it was pretty inoffensive and tolerable. It went downhill a bit in the second book as Runner added more and more women to his harem. It ended up so stupid and over the top by this third book that I actually managed to lose track of just how many women Runner was actually stringing along. Not that I feel guilty for that as there must have been a solid 15 of them by this point. It ended up being a problem as there was just not enough screen time for them all. Arand solved this by ditching most of the harem Runner gathered up in the first book. Hanna got to stay but by various story devices Nadine, Katarina, and Thana were all removed or reduced to minor cameo appearances in this third instalment of the series. I think Arand, and Runner, just got bored of them and moved on to upgraded new women. Some of the new characters were fun but others were pretty cringey as it felt like Arand was on a box ticking mission to include one of every type of erotic fantasy girl into the harem. Two of the book 2 women even got body swapped so they were cooler and more gimicky ffs!
The other big negative for this book and probably the thing that most damaged my enjoyment of the series was the negative character development of Runner himself. I liked him in the first book but felt he was beginning to go off the rails a bit towards the end of the second book. In this third one had totally become corrupted by his power and was quite unlikeable. He was just flat out murdering, torturing, and enslaving anyone who did not obey his every command. He had developed into a total tyrant! To make matter even worse he was even beginning to treat the women in his harem like shit. The sleaze bag was actively groping anyone that got within touching distance but by far his worst crime was just flat out ripping a teenage monstergirl out of her own world and enslaving her to him as his new familiar for all eternity. Monstergirl added soooo much cringe to the story it was unreal. In the early books he treated the women he gathered into his harem OK. With absolutely no power checks in place Runner went wild and really turned out to be a bit of a scumbag.
It was a pity the negatives of the story grew so much more prominent in this final instalment of the series as they damaged my ability to enjoy this final book in the series and that was a disappointment as I do feel like Arand is a fairly engaging writer and that this fantasy would had a lot going for it before Runner morphed into an unbearable asshole and the wish-fulfilment (both the power and romance elements) spiralled way out of control.
This has actually managed to kill my desire to read the rest of Arand's Superhero series!

-What was up with Arand's pregnancy fetish?
-There was a minor story arc in the middle of the book about a spy in Runner's camp that got totally forgotten about.
-It was so annoying that Runner constantly prattled on about how much he loved "strong women" all while surrounding himself with a bunch of the women so weak and submissive that they would make a doormat blush!

Stop at book 2. I don't know how this has any stars. This is the conclusion of the series. What do you get for reading this?
An entire book of side characters you did not care about. The women from the previous books aside from the goddesses barely make any appearances.
Main character basically fucks a zoo and at one point rubs the utters of a werewolf/dog.
Questions you had throughout the series? Never addressed.Why did he hate his ex from book 1? Never explained. Who sabotaged the ship? Never explained. I'm not exaggerating here. Nothing is ever explained. Character motivations, why he does certain things, etc. It's shallow. All the characters are shallow and essentially boil down to how fuckable they are. Why does he never use almost any of his gm commands? Never explained. For example, he has the ability "Revive" never uses it. Whole book is just a pile of shit. Stop at book 2. You'll regret it unless you're just here to listen about how a guy fucks a zoo. Bird, wolf, fox, etc. Fucking ridiculous.
The author baits you with twists several times throughout the book. As an example, the author tells us multiple times that the mc is being betrayed by someone close to him. You'll probably think of several possible people. Take your guesses and shove them up your ass right now. I read the whole fucking thing and I still have no idea who it was.. The author straight up fucking forgot about it. AHAHAHAHAHA!

Not bad, a fairly satisfying ending, the first of his series (that I've read) to have a conclusion.
The similarities with his later books can't be laid at the feet of this one because this came first.
if you've read this far, might as well finish. You will at least find out why it's called selfless hero, because that title was a perplexing until the final chapter. Sure as hell isn't the Main Character.

Ugh....
Two stars because the premise is interesting. Book is completely predictable, disjointed and a 6 way hornfest.
No thanks. Read the first book and imagine the rest. Only read all of it because I had already purchased it.

Interesting morality tale
How far would you go to protect the ones you love? Would you be able to go against your beliefs, all that you find good? Runner faces these dilemmas and more as he works to log the rest of humanity from the game they were placed into to cover long distances in space.

I'm left with a bad taste in my mouth. The two elements, that I was worried about in book one, have blossomed into full flower by book three. Runner is now so over-powered that he can just stand in place and kill everyone on the planet. He has also fully relaxed into his polyamory, just so long as none of his women are interested in other men.
Somehow I feel like the author is holding me down and beating me with a silk pillow while shouting, "Why are you hitting yourself?" No one is getting hurt, so why do I feel so violated?
Runner has the highest charisma stat in the game, thus every female is attracted to him, even the gods. But that's okay because he's a good guy. I know he's a good guy because he doesn't immediately sleep with anyone, he isn't prejudiced against anything, (I.e. He's sexually available, no matter what species you are, even if you have some scars), and he goes nuts if any of his girls are threatened.
I can't hold it against a guy if he flirts, right? Even if his charisma stat has roofied all the women he meets, right?

Another 3.5, most of that for the potential of the world. I find it interesting that the series that underpins so many of the authors books is the weakest overall. The other books are of variable quality, but the overall readability of them is higher than for this trilogy.
The biggest problem with the series is the MC; I just never identify with him. A good thing I suppose, as he is arguably insane. I think this is why I needed to re-read the whole thing, it really didn't stick the first time. I suppose I could have gotten the info to tie the other books (Wild Wastes, Super Sales, Fostering Faust) together from a Wiki or something, but I like to read so here we are.

Hands down this series is the best I’ve read from this author. Considering I thoroughly enjoyed his other books, that’s saying something. The characters in this series just seemed so much more realistic. They had so much depth. The ending was a little bit cliched, but goddamn it, they deserve a happy ending after everything that happened.

Like I mentioned after book two, don't read this series. I'm sure a lot of work was put into this yet I continued only because of the overarching story. The character development was really shallow and the stupid one liners were terrible. This really is a male teenage fantasy.

The cringey banter was too much.
There was too much Stats and GM codes.
The harem seemed too forced to me.
I think I consumed too many of these books in quick succession. I went from enjoying it, to having a headache.

Easy 4 stars and 4.5 stars for the series. Great book and great series. Really enjoy it and wish the author had some more book for me to read. If you like the first 2 books at all and can't see how you would dislike this one.

Harem overload...
(Note: this book is part 3 of a 3 book series, which for some reason is not put together as a series on Audible. Just search for "Otherlife" and you should find the other books)
Runner and his harem have managed to bring peace to Tirtius, while also successfully logout most of the crew of his ship. Runner is working to set up a home for his harem on the isle of Vix. When he thinks things are starting to go well, an assassin attempts to take his life in his own home. Now Runner has to deal with threats locally, from divine entities, and those out of the game being scared of him and the human race.
This book is reminiscent to book 2 in that Runner has to get all in the isle of Vix under his rule, reminiscent to how he had to get 3 kingdoms to work together. In doing so Runner is discovering that the world is likely about to awaken on a large scale. There is also a large war moving throughout the land and coming his way, making Runner feel like he needs to strike first by sending his ladies out. This leads to Runner developing a larger harem with the ladies he met in book 2, which he promised he wouldn't do. The harem aspect of this story are turned up so much that it was almost unbearable to listen to Runner be a coward in his relationships, even calling himself out for it.
The most interesting character and story involves Hanners the thief, the first of his ladies he ever met. She slowly opens up to Runner here and lets him in. You still won't hear about her backstory, but I think it's more important to find out how she has changed due to watching and helping Runner. Seeing Hanners develop and the intrigue of someone wanting Runner dead are what make this third and final book.
Jeff Hays does an amazing job portraying all the characters, and he does an amazing job with female voices to the point I forget I'm listening to a man narrate in a mostly female cast of characters. However, as many female characters as there are I wonder why a female voice actor was not selected to narrate this book. Even with that thought I still think Hays did a great job here, as usual.

Trilogy conclusion

Runner pulls out all stops and tackles many challenges in this arc of the story, and he finally admits his feelings for the strong women he's surrounded himself with.
I read the omnibus version several years ago, and I remember more events happening. Arand is on record saying he adds extra to each omnibus collection to make it worthwhile for readers to purchase. on the on one hand, that's great, but that means buying it and reading it to see what has been added. Still, I bought these three books separately so as to give book reviews, but having spent three days re-reading the entire series, while I enjoyed the tale, I need a break.
That said, this series is where you start. Arand writes harem with ftb (fade to black), while Randi Darren, his alias, writes in the same universe with explicit adult scenes, and they all take place within the milieu created here; the exception is the Cultivating Chaos series, which is shared milieu with two other writers. I hear the latter series is good, and I've bought several; I just haven't had time to start yet. Hey, my kindle has dozens of books I've yet to read. LOL! And, I have my own stories to write!
Anyway, this is a good story, but start with Otherlife Dreams OR the omnibus version if you haven't already done so. Enjoyed.

Not sure why this volume seems to get a bunch of hate in other reviews with most of the complaints being about stuff they either missed or didn't catch or things they should have expected after reading the first two. Honestly this was my favorite of the trilogy but that's probably because it got a larger emotional response from me than the second book. (I think I become attached to characters too easily). We get a large ramp up and increase in the amount of combat in this volume, a few new side characters as well. What you need to realize going into this book is that it is the conclusion of a trilogy but not the conclusion of the story. The author is writing a large inter connected universe of book series to build up a massive conclusion for all of them so it isn't a cluster fuck of "Who are all of these people and where did they come from?" when they start showing up rapidly later on. Don't expect everything to be answered here as this isn't a full story only an Arc. Anyways I really liked it and once again Jeff Hays did a fantastic job on the audio side. Highly recommended.

Lots of drama, jumped the shark with Runner's godhood
At the point where a character becomes divine and can solve most any problem without too much effort, a lot of the drama and interest in the story dissolve. One other problem I had with the whole series is the artifact level magic item creation becoming one of Runner's skills almost immediately, without any adjustment or growth as his character grew.
I did enjoy seeing the family gel, and there were moments around the pregnancy discussions that were classic. And the continuing evolution of the interaction with Minxy and the other goddesses was fun.
The ending was an OK place to stop, but really left you wanting more. Leaving Srit in stasis indefinitely, while fighting for the lives of all humanity, really was a cliff hanger.

I think part of what's going on here is that the author is viewing this as just a small part of his massive multiverse cycle, but if you evaluate it as a trilogy, it just sort of peters off, and there's not a ton of payoff. We end with one LI pointlessly dead, another apparently trapped in stasis forever (or at least for centuries), and it's not really clear what purpose that served. And a bunch of plot threads (the surviving humans, the signal the ship is heading towards) have been dropped.

A solid finish.
An interesting conclusion to a crazy story. What a wild ride. MC got crazy, but it was interesting to see how things wrapped up. Some of it was kind of expected, but some the way it got there was interesting.
I kind of... wished there was a little more involving more PCs. But at least one of those loose ends was tied up.

Amazing series!
A fantastic read. Excellently portrayed characters and plot build-up. This series keeps you guessing to the end with so many twists and turns its impossible to get bored. It's interesting to see how the NPC's develop and how the world inside and the ones outside affect each other and the ramifications of one's actions that are so far reaching its astounding. A fantastic read. Excellently portrayed characters and plot build-up. This series keeps you guessing to the end with so many twists and turns its impossible to get bored. It's interesting to see how the NPC's develop and how the world inside and the ones outside affect each other and the ramifications of one's actions that are so far reaching its astounding. Great story
As with the rest of the series this book is great, I loved all the ups and downs and everything in between. The parts I didn't like were that it took till the 3rd book for the mc to figure out His love life, it just took so long as to be ridiculous, and there were some discrepancies in the way he would banish people, in one scene he would banish enemies with a banishing ray and in another he would risk his life and others for him to physically grab them to banish them, didn't make any sense. But like I said great book, great series can't wait for more.

First book was ok, but the later I read the uglier it became. In second book was where the story declined its quality dramatically and it was where author should stoped writing this. The third book is a complete waste; waste of paper and waste of time. I could not force myself to finish it even I was listening to the audio version of the book.
Overall, another harem dreams without any idea behind it. Don’t read it, don’t waste your time. It simple does not worse it. One star rating is too much for it.

Other life
Selfless, is not the correct term for the hero of this trilogy. I enjoyed it, read it quickly, laughed and cried. It is very much an updated trilogy based on Heinlein's Time Enough for Love book. One guy lots of women. All the women want to bed the one guy and don't mind that he is shared among them, so, a male fantasy science fiction, RP gamer book. But I still liked it.

Nice Ending
So it was not what I expected. Again, same as the others, I loved the book and read it nonstop, at my own peril. I loved the changes to the characters and even the ending, though I’m sad that all was not right in the world. To be honest, that probably makes it better, that it didn’t end all fairy tale happy go lucky like. I would definitely recommend this book to any that happen upon this review.

Great trilogy
Looking forward to more from this author. This series has been great fun. All of the people have taken a life of their own. Sadly, this book wrapped up so many of the separate little stories, it sort of drowned out some of the favorite individuals from the first two books to do so. Even with that, story was well done.

Wonderful
The story line had a wonderful flow, the aspect of leveling up was great. I wish that author would have went more in depth and made the story so much longer. Overall it was a beautiful tale and left room for the continuation of the story line! I can't wait until the next update in the series! From the way it's going I could see this series going on for years!

Wonderfully sad
The series was wonderful, start to finish. The unconventional love story, the focus on trust and love rather than hate and power was spectacular to read. I am starting on the other series but am sad at the end of Runners (main character) story. I hope his appearances going forward are not too brief!

I reread this from time to time.
The expanded universe has become so big, I like to remind myself of the basics. The small details, the interplay between people, as you read others in the series it gives it a new flavor. Of all his works, as good as they are, these will always be my favorite.

Apparently, I am a sucker for happy endings. There were times in this book that I felt it was going nowhere. I didn't like the fact that all of the side characters were out of scene for the majority of the book. Ultimately, it was good. Lots of character growth and a happy ending. A touching ending.

An entire book is MC talking with his woman's and act like an idiot who did not think to learn new spells. i mean come on he GM!
