A brand new publication by Dan Hawkins, Swing is jam packed with real life examples, success principles, and action steps you need to dust yourself off and get back up. No matter where you are in life today, Dan lays out your plan to Swing for the fences. Becoming the person you dream to be is a result of overcoming your fears and this book shows the exact recipe needed to do just that. This book will inspire all who read it to have the courage to become the person they were created to be.
I almost didn't read this book because of the cover and title being about baseball, which I do not find very interesting. I assumed that it would reference baseball a lot, and decided that there were so many other books I would better enjoy that I could better spend my time on.
Later, I was congratulating a friend of mine who is extremely passive, reserved, and unambitious for finally starting to build a business and for being enthusiastic and actually doing something after 1-2 years of doing nothing. I was surprised, I never expected him to be proactive like this. He told me excitedly that he had been listening to Dan Hawkins' book "Swing" on audio over and over again and how he really related to it and was very excited and determined to work hard at this. He was more optimistic and happy than I'd ever seen him. I decided that if this book could transform this man the way that it did, I actually should read it myself, despite the cover and title.
First, contrary to my initial assumption, this book has very, very little to do with baseball. The author does tell about a very short experience he had as a youth in baseball where he struck out because he was so afraid of swinging and missing, that he was just paralyzed and didn't swing at all, at least that way he felt he didn't actually fail because he never tried. I could relate to this thinking at an earlier time in my life.
The whole point of the book is that is how he had been living his life, listening to the voice of fear, and being passive. He thought it was safe, but in fact it made his life so much worse and harder than if he had actually tried to swing. Swing is just used as a metaphor for actually doing something and trying and listening to the voice of courage inside you. The author talks about how he went from being so passive, reserved, and "safe" to becoming a huge outgoing successful leader who packs stadiums with thousands of people coming to hear him speak. It is a great inspiring and motivational book to plant courage in oneself to actually go for your dreams and live the life you've always wanted. It's an easy 5 out of 5 star rating from me, not the least because of what I saw it do for a friend of mine, and how it inspired me as well.
Modern day American hero. Not hype, not a motivation guru...far from it. Dan was an average guy from an average place that chose to begin doing un-average activities.
Dan's story of transformation is amazing. Fueled by the dream to have a better life for himself and his family Dan disciplined himself to learn more & do uncomfortable things. Dan & Lisa chose a new destination, used the slight edge principle in their favor, and got to work.
Dan's book is full of inspiration and his insight on HOW to become a champion. I plan on reading again and would strongly recommend to anyone that sincerely wants to move beyond average.
4 1/2 🌟 read: What a tremendous way to start '19 ... This is my second book back to back to earn this level.
The 20 principles laid out in about 180 pages are not really new-- after all, how many hundreds of millions of books have been published over the 600+ years since Guttenberg's printing press, right?, yet how many in our 🌎 still struggle and lack courage?
Fabulous book on listening to the positive voice instead of the negative one. He rose from being a mechanic to a multi-millionaire largely through changing his thinking. He's also a terrific speaker. I happened to hear him in Kansas City two weeks ago. Email me if you want to know more about Dan Hawkins.
The author was a very good child athlete. But, due to an ongoing crisis of self-doubt he constantly found himself failing at the very things in which he excelled. This is the story of how he changed from a constant, self-doubting, scarily shy person into one of America's leading leadership speakers and a multi-millionaire former auto mechanic.
Wow! This book will grab your attention and not let it go. This information has the potential to be life changing when applied and is broken down so that every person can start to benefit from taking the advice laid out. I would recommend this to anyone looking to conquer their fears and become the person they have always wanted to be.
