‘Dear God, what is it like in your funny little brains? It must be so boring.’ Can you pit your wits against the best and the wisest? Through these 200 puzzles and challenges, you’ll be able to elevate your powers of deduction, detection and general brilliance. From codes and sequences to perceptual and logic problems, there are puzzles for all levels, from beginner (John) to expert (Sherlock). With hints and tips for solving the most difficult puzzles, and explanations of how Sherlock (and hopefully you) arrived at them, this is your chance to build your own mind palace. This is your chance to think like Sherlock. ‘Your mind, it’s so placid, straight-forward, barely used. Mine’s like an engine, racing out of control, a rocket, tearing itself to pieces, trapped on the launch pad. I NEED A CASE!’
We were a little disappointed that they were so difficult to complete, that might just be us though. Not for the faint hearted. The puzzles are of different difficulties, but are not TOO difficult, nor TOO easy. Some of them just require typical Sherlock Holmes logic/analysis, while some of them require that you actually know the (smallest details of the) series,
This book is best for the British reader or a total Anglophile as some of the answers are things only people who live in the area would know (and probably why the book is NOT available in the USA. I ordered mine through amazon UK.) Each story and puzzle deals with a part of an episode, covering ALL episodes in the series. Some questions also require you to pay very fine attention to detail or have a vast knowledge of the episodes, which require rewatching if you don't know what they're asking about. There is an answer section at the end of each chapter, so you can easily figure out your answers if you want.
I found this to be rather over the top, not as fun as it should have been, and a bit lack luster.
Some of the tasks are a lot of fun and challenging but if you want to fully enjoy the book you need to: 1) know the episodes inside out; 2) be pretty much native in English.
A very interesting puzzle book, not being a native some of the questions were quite tricky and/or too difficult, but if you love this kind of books, or are a fan of the BBC Sherlock series, you will have a good time trying to find the answers.
