This one started out really well. I was liking Roxanne and I was liking Dane. Things were mostly believable and I was mostly enjoying it. But then when we finally return to Albaterra, it just went down hill. I started to hate Roxanne and it all got very ridiculous again.
So Dane is still on Earth wiping out the human population with his warriors when he manages to get himself and a small group of his people captured. His magic sword doesn't allow the humans to take it from him, but for some reason or another, he can't use it. Separated from the others, Dane finds himself chained to a chair in a drab room. When a human woman shows up to talk to him, he's immediately taken with her and the contradictions she shows him.
Roxanne is the newly appointed alien liaison or some such thing and she has been tasked with making sure a peace treaty gets signed between the two of them before it's too late. Her first meeting with Dane does not go as she was expecting so she has him sent back to his cell for a while. During which time she just becomes more hot and bothered by thoughts of him.
Their next meeting goes a bit better with Dane making his demands about him and his people in exchange for bringing the idea of a peace treaty before the Council of Elders. And before you know it they're all bound for Albaterra with a handful of human soldiers and Roxanne.
Things looked promising when we get back, but never lived up to anything. Too many things don't get explained (like Duke's outburst) or make any sense, I wanted to punch Roxanne in her stupid face, these two are professing their love after minimum interactions and a fight, and then all of a sudden we're told the treaty was accepted and Dane's being officially made the Elder. I wonder if this author is afraid of writing an ending or something because these last two in particular have been abrupt and questionable.
I wanted to finish this series. I really did. I have all the books after all. And I tried. I really tried too. But I just can't right now. These women annoy the ever living fuck out of me and I am just NOT getting into the story much at all. Honestly, what I've liked the most has been the fighting scenes. So while it seems the majority of people have really enjoyed this series, I'm tapping out here.
