A beginning chapter book. A faithful rendition of the Cars 3 movie with some illustration pages in the middle.

I began reading this with my son, but soon grew tired of the incredibly slow pace we were taking - he would get distracted with other things after a few sentences, and mostly just wanted me to repeat Lightning's mantra, "Speed, I am speed" - so there I was, sitting in the staffroom at school, or going for my afternoon walk, reading Cars 3: The Novelisation.
Anyway, what did I think of it?
It was fine. Just like the movie: a perfectly decent, if still flawed, addition to the Cars franchise. Nothing comes near the first one, which I actually had no interest in until my own boy finally made me watch it (about a hundred times and counting). But this last instalment partly made up for the silly, annoying, bizarrely dark and tonally inconsistent Cars 2.
I like the third movie just fine. And whatever strengths the film has, the book shares, as it captures very well the essence of the movie. Both are a poignant exploration of old age, coming to terms with your own fading star, and having to pass the mantle to a younger generation.
As a novelisation - and one for kids, at that - the writing here is good. It's absolutely readable and fun, and occasionally funny. I would say the only thing I missed was getting to listen to Randy Newman's excellent compositional work, but to be honest, I don't think the score for Cars 3 is nearly as good as that in the first one.

This starts with the story from the first movie and then continues to so some side racing stories that we don't see in the movies. Bonus that it is a listen-along book too, so I can turn the CD on and let the kids read alone instead of always having to read myself. My son loves Cars, so this was his pick for a new book with his piggy bank money. The entire book is considered a level 1 World of Reading book, rated for beginner readers, Pre-K to Kindergarten.
Cars
The first story in the collection, this is just a simplified recap of the first movie. Very simple telling as it's rated for such a young age. Fun pictures that bring the movie to life on the page with all the familiar characters.
Racing Days
We know Doc trained Lightening, and Chick has a TV show later on from the commentary in the third movie, but we never see/hear anything about them both having a racing school. In this story, the two racing schools decide to do 3 races to see which is the best school. Of course, Lightening wins, despite the cheating of Hick's team, with some help from his friends.
Rally to the Finish
The last book of the series, this is another race that Mater comes along on, only it's through the woods that they're told is home to a monster. The fear ramps up all the racer (except Lightening who doesn't believe there is a monster and just races his best) so they all drive faster and finish together. Thankfully that fear didn't make any of them lose control and crash. We meet some new racers in this story that we didn't know in the movies, too.

This heartwarming sequel to the Cars and Cars 2 franchise from Disney and Pixar is their finest one yet! Lightning McQueen is back, along with his best buddies, to tackle a new generation of racers on the racetrack. These newbie racers are super fast, train on simulators, and are streamlined to win. Jackson Storm is one such Next-Gen racer who is bent on forcing Lightning to retire for good. Are Lightning's days of racing victory over, or will he make a surprising comeback that will shock everyone?
This story deftly explains the conflict people, and more specifically, sports champions, face when they realize they have reached the end of their career and have to pave the way for the younger generation. Retiring from celebrity is never easy, but it comes with the territory of getting older and realizing that what was once unbeatable and right on top can now actually be defeated by something as uncontrollable as age. This book will breathe new life to baby boomers and educate youngsters on how to respect, appreciate, and admire old-timers because they, too, will become old-fashioned one day. A fantastic book that I recommend to all ages!

My Review: Munchkin has really been loving these read-along books in the car and of course he is a big fan of the Cars movies so I had to pick this one up for him. I think with this movie there was almost too much going on to be condensed into one short story. Munchkin was a little bored with it and kept talking about the movie and what was missing from the book. We did like all the sound effects that went with this book though, but it just wasn't enough for us.

My Review: Munchkin of course loves the Cars movies and this was a great one to pick up for him. We read the stories but the audio book CD will be great for car rides and for him to work on reading on his own. I like the variety of stories in this book, the first is taken right from the original movie but the other two are stories that are not part of the movie so it is a nice change. The popular characters will help keep young readers interested and the easy to read sentences and words are great for those young readers to gain confidence.

Satu-satunya cinestory Pixar yang filmnya belum pernah kutonton sama sekali *gasp!*
Aku termakan gosip yang bilang kalo jilid tiga ini lebih jelek dari film keduanya yang kuanggap kualitasnya turun jauh dari film pertamanya. Tapi ternyata setelah tadi ngecek situs RT, eh ratingnya jauh lebih bagus dari yang kedua. Beti dikitlah dengan yang pertama.
Sepertinya bakal kutonton deh nanti kalau sudah subscribe Disney+ Indonesia.

Good read for Cars fans who might need a little extra reading motivation. This story follows the Thunder Hollow race scene from Cars 3 and is an accurate summary. Nothing spectacular story or illustration wise, but it’s true to the movie. These kind of books released to coincide with a movie stort are never my favorite because they are basically just cash grab merchandise and don’t add anything to the story we already know from the movie.

I love Cars 3! One of my favorite parts is the beach scene. But I love the tributes to Doc because Doc is one of my all time favorite characters. But this book was a copy and paste of the movie but with comic dialogue bubbles. There was no new dialogue. The only reason this gets two stars is because I love the movie.

The Cars story feels like it has come to a proper close here, and it is a bit sad to see that Lightning may have hung up his racing career in the near future. I'll miss what was, and be fond of it, and take what the future brings, because that's happening regardless.

Vrij veel moeilijke woordjes over het autoracen voor een kinderboekje. Het verhaal is hetzelfde als de film, maar dan zodanig versimpeld dat het nogal van de hak op de tak springt.

It was a cute comic, I've loved the movie Cars since I was a kid ♥ I never got to see the other movies of Cars so when I saw this in the store, I thought why not? As I read it, I literally thought I was watching the movie :)
