Some people just seem to know they are meant to write, but it can still take a while to figure out exactly what their career will entail. Kate Douglas started out writing radio copy for a country western radio station in 1972, wrote and illustrated an educational cartoon strip for the American Mosquito Control Association for a number of years, was a newspaper reporter for a small town weekly where she covered everything from high school sports to drug busts, and then, in the mid-1980s, decided to write her first romance.

Many submissions and rejections followed.

In 1998, she sold to a small ebook publisher before anyone knew what an ebook was, but it wasn't until 2005, a full twenty years after finishing that first romance, that she signed with a New York publisher.

In January 2006, Kensington Publishing launched their Aphrodisia imprint of erotic romance with Kate's Wolf Tales, a sexy paranormal series about a lost race of shapeshifters. She went on to write 21 novels and novellas in that series, then wrote three other series for Kensington before moving to St. Martin's Press.

She has two series with SMP--The Intimate Relations series complete with three novels and one novella of romantic suspense set in California's wine country, and an erotic paranormal series, Feral Passions, set in California's Trinity Alps.

She is also continuing her Spirit Wild series, the sequel to Wolf Tales, independently.

Kate and her husband of over forty-five years have two adult children and six grandchildren. They live in the small town of Healdsburg, California, in the heart of the beautiful Sonoma County wine country.

This series was mentioned to me by a new friend. I have always been into this genre with were creatures and the like. Wolf Tales is very different to most I have read though, Kate has brought the love and passion that is a part of a polyamorous relationship. It is not simply an erotic story but also something for the soul. To express the needs and wants of the more carnal side.
Aside from that the characters are well thought out, they are not perfect stereotypes but have flaws, something relatable. The conversations are natural and not a forced filler. The story itself has a flow which is not as fast paced as the page count may cause you to think. They are full stories that have tie up all the lose ends and do not leave you hanging.

You don't read this book for the plot, that's for sure. It's paranormal erotica, so if that's not your thing, stop reading. Tia finds out she's a werewolf and joins a polyamourous werewolf pack of 4 men, who also happen to be secret government agents. She falls for the alpha wolf, Luc. The reason people read this book is for the sex and love story - Ms. Douglas could have skipped the side story involving a kidnapping and no one would have cared. Tia has a grand time as the first female werewolf any of the four studly men have met. Very steamy - includes group sex, m-m, beastiality.

I read the previous book in this series called Wolf Tales and for some reason decided to read this one anyway. It is so unbelievably repetitive and boring and contains a "big secret". I have little patience for the old tired "big secret" plot line or for dull books anymore.

The plot is about a secret clan of highly sexual werewolves who work to combat terrorism (or something). The alpha wolf of the clan has raised his daughter Tia without telling her the secret of their race. He sends her off to school so she won't be anywhere near him & his pack. When she's well past the age of changing he allows his top man Luc to initiate her into the pack which will include five other horny guys. Tia is a beauty and a full blooded werewolf and once given the correct supplements to "change" will become the alpha bitch for all of the men who drool over her the moment they set eyes on her. She will only be "mated" (the soul mate) to one however. In real words: she'll sleep with them all but her heart will belong to only one. Poor thing. Luc accidentally killed her mother when she was a wee child but he withholds this from her until the last infuriating minute because he's afraid to face up it.

I finished this book but I'm not sure why. It was more like a mostly vanilla, slightly steamy romance with some bad words thrown in and only a little bit of kink. All of the weirdness that strangely kept me reading the first book was written out of this one and it read more like a post 9/11 espionage romance novel with some werewolves thrown in. Borrrring and pretty pointless.

Part two to Wolf Tales ties in the first book and brings all characters together. Much more of a story line in this book. Looking forward to Wolf Tales III to see where the story goes from here.

"Wolf Tales II"

San Francisco, CA. 1986

Ulrich Mason, and his six year old daughter Tianna, stand next to an open grave on a dismal January morning. Her little hand in his, Tia looks up and asks, "why does God need mommy in heaven more than we do ?"

Chanku, a unique race, long forgotten. A species of shapeshifters, that gave rise to fearful legends and fantasies. Native to the Himalayas, with the intelligence of a human and the instincts of the wolf.

Oakland, CA. 2006

Tianna was coming home. She has grown into a beautiful woman ready to enter the next phase of her life. But still questions linger in her mind concerning her mother's death, and she still hasn't been told about her Chanku heritage.

Tianna's father has asked Lucien Stone to reveal her heritage to her and if asked, to tell her the the truth about her mothers death. Lucien, a tortured man carrying his own secrets. Tia has loved Luc since she was a gangly teenager and when they meet again the attraction is instant and unquenchable.

The fear of exposure is a constant worry. There are those that are desperate to reveal the truth of the Chanku, and betrayal of the pack comes in many different forms.

Kate Douglas, a master wordsmith of seduction and scorching love scenes. Delivers the reader into the sensual mating of the Chanku and then runs with you and the wolves. A wonderous tale impossible to put down. Holding you in it's midst until the wee hours of the night, when the wolves run with you.

Follow Lucian and Tianna, become one of the pack, feel the wind caress your face. Then let the mating begin.

A five star rating is not high enough for this series. The sensual and erotic Chanku will leave you hungering for more.

Just a word to the average reader, be prepared to step into a different shifter world. And, this series is so hot it should make an e-reader melt! I don't even know what abbreviations to use for the relationships in this series.

The Chanku are a lost race of shapeshifters. Slowly, the core group of Chanku is discovering other Chanku and helping them make the change to being a shapeshifter. While the books center around a couple, the rest of the pack are supporting characters.

I loved this series. This first book had me HOOKED and this book had my wishing I could find a wolf ;-)! This book is about connection, love, acceptance and even a bit of danger. The scenes are unforgettable. The story line is amazing, it is so well written and I couldn't put it down. I read the whole series in about a month.

Third in the Chanku erotic paranormal romance series revolving around a group of shifters whose origins are in the Himalayas. The couple focus is on Luc Stone and Tia and takes place primarily in San Francisco in 2006.

My Take
The prologue is useful for providing background on Ulrich and Tia. It's rather funny that Ulrich keeps thinking of his little girl as a sex-free zone when she's been indulging for a decade. She's also been intent on Luc. And vice versa. What no one takes into consideration is that Tia is a strong woman who intends to keep her independence.

There's more story here than usual for a Kate Douglas Chanku. I do enjoy her writing. She creates interesting characters whom I, at least, want to get to know better. Mmmm-hmmmm, sigh… *Laughing*, okay, seriously, Douglas does create some interesting scenarios both in and out of bed.

Be warned. This is multiple-partner sex and there is one scene which is rather intense.

As I am finally approaching this series chronologically instead of stumbling over the occasional story, I'm learning Douglas' progress as a writer. As I mentioned, Douglas writes about sex---lots and lots of sex with multiple partners in all sorts of permutations. She is one of the rare writers [that I've encountered so far] who actually write a story interesting enough that I want to know how things turn out…*ahem, besides the sex!*...and she places an emphasis on honorable and decent characters who care for each other.

That said, Douglas is obviously still finding her way as a writer in this one. That or she was in a hurry. There have been a number of bits where I cringed and wondered where her editor was.

The Story
Ulrich is terrified. The daughter he sent away to school is returning and now he has to face the fact that he's postponed telling Tia about her heritage. And he still can't. Instead he appoints Luc Stone to be her protector, to become her friend and determine what, if anything, she can handle. Talk about handing over the key to the chastity belt!

Tia has been in lust for Luc since she first met him after her mother's funeral while Luc has also wanted her. A want he found undesirable then when she was so young. Now. Now, she's his and he'll do whatever is necessary to ensure it.

Every man's attention is on Tia and the threat to her. It's this obsession that makes it possible for Ulrich's kidnapping. Fortunately, Ulrich recently made contact with the leader of another Chanku pack based in Montana and that may be all that enables them to rescue their leader.

The Characters
Captain Ulrich Mason was a cop with the SPFD and now he is the alpha for the San Francisco pack of Chanku, wolf shifters. Tianna is the daughter he wants to keep safe from his pack. Camille is, was, his freethinking mate who thought the rules did not apply to her.

Lucien Stone is the guilty cop, an officer with the SFPD about to learn a terrifying truth. He now works for Pack Dynamics under Mason. The world believes Pack Dynamics is a detective agency while, in reality, it's a top-secret government agency. He also has a horrifying secret to divulge to Tia. One that may lose cause him to lose her. The rest of the pack includes AJ and Mik who were prison inmates and lovers who joined on their release, Jake was a paramedic when he was younger, and Tinker was military and had served in Afghanistan.

Anton Cheval is the alpha for the Montana pack. His wife, Keisha Rialto, is Ulrich's long lost niece. Stefan Aragat and Alexandria "Xandi" Xanet are part of his pack. Oliver is an Englishman employed by Cheval.

Shannon Murphy is Tia's best friend and has been her lover for years.

Secretary of Homeland Security Milton Bosworth is on the presidential cabinet who was kidnapped by al Qaeda terrorists.

The Cover
The cover is primarily red with black with an almost cartoon quality to the embracing couple.

Douglas doesn't put much effort into creating titles for the individual books and this one is no exception. The Wolf Tales indicates that it's a full-length novel while the II only means it's the second full-length story in this series.

Rookie cop Lucien, Luc for short, was trying to protect a group of kids in the park from what he thought was a wild wolf chasing after them. After shooting the wolf, he approached, and instead found a beautiful naked woman, dead. After Luc explains all of this to the woman’s husband, Ulrich Mason, Ulrich fills Luc in on some information of his own... the secrets of the Chanku. Ulrich has realized that Luc is also one of the Chanku, like Ulrich, his late wife, and his daughter Tia. What will happen now, as Luc has killed this man's wife and the mother of his child?

The world of the Chanku is further revealed in this second release of the Wolf Tales series. There are numerous characters added to the series within this book. Also introduced is a detective agency called "Pack Dynamics" which helps at a lot of "meat" to the storyline. Whereas book one leaned rather heavily on sex scenes, this book balanced out a bit better due to a kidnapping that took place in the second half of the book. I feel that Douglas is building up for an even stronger balance as she gets more characters established, but she already has a really good standing right now. The characters are very strong, the writing style is fast-paced and fun, and the love scenes are smokin' hot!

Great follow up, loved Luc and Tia

Lucian "Luc" Stone, had a traumatic introduction into the Chanku world. It started when he killed his Alpha's mate. Two decades later his Alpha wants him to introduce his daughter to her Chanku heritage, with the hope he can convince her to be his mate.
Tianna "Tia" Mason, is coming home. She is restless. Her best friend and on and off lover no longer satisfies her, nor any of the other encounters she has had. Erotic dreams of a black wolf consume her. She is ready to confront her father for the truth about her mother's death.
Tia and Luc are combustible. Explaining what they are, Tia feels betrayed. The attraction to the rest of the small pack of males, unnerving, though group sex is something she has enjoyed with her circle of friends.
Luc struggles how to tell the women he loves he killed her mother. When she learns the truth , she is enraged. Then her father is kidnapped. They need the help of the Montana Pack to save him. She reconnected with her older cousin.
She and Luc both open their minds and hearts.
Great follow up to Wolf Tales, exotic shifter romance. Better story to sex balance, the first book. MF, MM, MFM, group sex, F multiple male partners.

While I really liked the first Wolf Tales book I absolute LOVED the second one.

I think most of it had to do with the fact that I related to the characters better in this one. I loved the Chanku pack that made up the like special ops team that worked for the Government to help people. This is seriously something I have wanted to see done in a shape shifter book for forever. It never made sense to me that people would have all these extra powers and NOT use them to help people. I loved it! I loved the way the pack operated and I loved all the characters.

The sex scenes were still incredibly steamy and hot, but the plot to this piece was also interesting and really set up I think many things to come within the Chanku society. I really get a far better sense of the pack structure now and the way different packs relate to one another, plus it was nice re-visiting the old pack from the first book.

I'm very excited for the 3rd book in the series not and getting to read about what happens between Jake and Shannon!

I loved this story; it tells the story of Keishia's cousin Tia, who meets her mate first as a young girl and then years later they meet again but Tia's life as she knew it soon takes some shocking turns as she falls in love with the man who's responsible for one of the most devastating events of her young life.

Things soon heat up between the new couple but, like most, they face their own problems, one of the major problems they face is that while Tia and Lucien's love slowly begins to blossom, another man feels the pull of the beast and only sees Tia as an available female and attempts to make her his mate. Add to that a secret Lucien and Ulrich, Tia's father, keep from her for over a decade and Ulrich's kidnapping and Tia's life is torn asunder; will Luc be able to win Tia's love despite the grievous wrong he'd done so long ago? Will Tia ever see her father again?

Tia has been left without a mother, who finds out later that her lover has a lot to do with it. She has left Boston and left her girlfriend lover behind to go to California to find out what has happened to her mother. Is her lover girlfriend, Shannon, safe?

She finds out that she is Chanku from her boyfriend lover who eventually becomes her mate.

Her father is kidnapped and she and the other pack members have to go to Montana to the Chanku pack for Anton's wizard and Chanku skills to help find her father. Many, many things happen! Cannot disclose.

You will be shocked, entrigued, turned on as well as left waiting to keep turning the page. Keep reading the series, I know I will!

YUMMMMM!!!!

Kate Douglas has a vivid imagination! No doubt I was pleasantly entertained with Wolf Tales I, and she set the bar pretty high with that novel. This round Kate Douglas raised the bar even higher! Luc is remorseful, sexy and hot. Tia is determined, sensual, and just as hot. I am amazed by her pack, and just as entertained by the relationships within the pack. Luke is too quiet, and I am hopeful that he gets Shannon to join the pack. Ulrich, I am sorry that he hasn't found love to replace his beautiful, sensual wife. There is a new bond with Anton's pack, which I hope blossoms in many ways.

COULD NOT PUT THIS DOWN!!!

So....this one is MUCH MUCH better than the first one. There isn't as much world building and background information given in this one. It was a much better love story than the first and wasn't just one big orgy fest. There were more intimate moments between Luc and Tia then multiple partners in the Chanku clan. It also brought back the Chanku pack in Montana from the first book to help out with a situation in this one. After this book, I would still read the next and maybe tread lightly and see if it continues this way or gets to be like the weird/crazy first one.

After reading the second installment of Wolf Tales, I must say I will not be reading another. As in the first book, the characters lacked depth and the sex was way too repetitive.

Maybe, I have high expectations when it comes to erotica, but I like my stories with characters I can relate to and can empathize with. I also like a story that motivates me to turn the page. This book had none of those elements.

If you read erotica for the sex, this book/series is for you. It just was a bit mind numbing for me.

At the end of Wolf Tales I we got a glimpse of Tia and Luc. This story is of her awakening and introduction to her Chanku heritage. The world building is well plotted, the pacing is good. The story doesn't lack for trying.

This story has plenty of graphic G/G and M/M sexual exploits as well as threesomes and foursomes. There is nothing light about Kate Douglas' erotica, there is really nothing left to the imagination. If this is what you are seeking then you have found an entertaining series.

2·5 - 3·0 stars. It was just eh... OK, so maybe closer to 2·75 stars.. hence the GR 3 stars, to be fair.

I think the premise of this book was good, I just think it could have been executed better.

*I loved getting to see the Montana Pack again :)

*I really liked Lucien, and thought he was a worthy hero

*I cried for Luc and the secrets he kept hidden.

*I didn't really like Tia... although I did love that she wasn't an inexperienced little petal who needed rescuing every 2 minutes

*For me things started getting good around the 60% mark, prior to that..it was just eh for me

In this story we meet Lucien Stone and a whole slew of Chanku. Tia has no idea what really happened to her mother 20 years ago and she's come back to find out, Luc was definitely not on the plan until she saw him then her plans changed a bit. Not gonna give anything else away. I will say that there is a lot of steamy sex scenes.

I picked up the majority of the series at a second hand book shop.

An erotic story of finding that which you have been missing in life. This book takes us further into the world of the Chanku a long forgotten race of shape shifters. It is an erotic journey of finding out who you are and what you can be. Menage and alpha themes.

**The series gets better with each book I've read.**

Paranormal erotica. For me, this was a good way to pass some wait time, decent story, entertaining, with some good hot sex scenes.

Were I more "into" PNR and the whole shape-shifting genre, I'd give it a 4.
