The number one best-selling thriller Stealing Time continues it’s “breathtakingly original” journey.
Ronnie Andrews returns from eighteenth century London shell-shocked from her first terrifying time travel encounter. Her boyfriend, Jeffrey Brennan, casts doubt on her sanity leaving Ronnie wondering if she went back in time or is having a mental breakdown.
To add to the tension, Hurricane Francis, a storm the size of Texas, is barreling towards Florida and her fears of a repeat time travel experience mount. Ronnie’s best friend Steph, along with her friend Nick and Steph’s younger brother Ian, shield Ronnie from the dangers of Francis but cannot save her from traveling back in time. Unfortunately, their meddling brings Ronnie to the brink of destruction as they are caught in the throes of the hurricane’s wrath.
Once again, Ronnie is transported to dangerous places and plagued with desperate situations, while experiencing perilous cultures including one of America’s first mysteries -- the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island.
A stunning conclusion brings Ronnie face to face with a dangerous ally who may hold the key to her past while offering salvation for her future.

I have been dying for this book to be released since I read Stealing Time in my Indie Book Connect box and fell in love with this story. I was thrilled to find that Shattering Time picks up exactly where Stealing Time left off and continues this incredible yet believable story. If you haven't read KJ Waters yet, you are missing out on one of the best authors of our time!
This is an excellent book. Well written and so much excitement. It has everything I love Time travel in a very different way, Excitement throughout, excellent characters and wonderful descriptive ways that you really feel like you are there! I do hope this series will go on with more exciting time travelling to different times in history! Well recommended.
After reading the first book, I didn't think Ms Waters could do better. However, she surpassed expectation!! I loved it! Another hurricane and trips to the past! That's right plural! Can't wait for the third one now!!
I loved this storyline! The characters were all so believable and I was impressed with the historical accuracy of events...this is a story that excites, in more ways than one! Absolutely captivating. Great job KJ!!!
I have waited for the second book and is brilliant story.Well written,
and the storyline is mysteriously, romance, emotional ,captivating, and science fiction drama:: Where we go next? Love travel with the characters, just thinking, why Ronnie saw similarities between Mathias and the man in other places ? Highly Recommended
Again, the author begins with an enticing cover for her book. On the shelf, it would definitely lead the reader to recognize the series. Well done.
This book was a continuation on the time travel storyline from the author’s previous book, Stealing Time. The plotline started out well, and again followed a believable and steady pace, re-introducing the main characters, as well as some new ones. The story also introduced a new piece of history that until this point I was completely unware of. I do like that about K J Waters books. I had no trouble staying with the story, but unfortunately, I didn’t find this book as satisfying as the first.
For me, the story did not tie in well enough with the previous one where the characters were concerned. I wanted to see some resolution, or at least some understanding for the heroine as she was once again thrown out of her reality into something completely foreign. Also, in the first book the time line during travel was days, compared to hours in reality. In this story, the timelines seemed almost the same. That might not be important, but it was apparent.
The ending, for me, this time was expected as the book came to a close, and I wasn’t happy with it. I felt like there needed to be some defined ending to the storyline, with a hint at a new one to follow. Instead I feel a little like I’m being held hostage from book to book with the same unresolved issues each time.
Having said that, I will keep an eye out for book three in the series, because I want to know what happens.
I received this book through Goodreads Giveaway. I enjoyed reading . I really like the different personalities of the various characters. I also liked how the pace picked up as the story moved along. Glad I finally had time to read the book.
This book was definitely better than book 1 with deeper plot development and stronger characterization. I so want Jeffrey to find his downfall and the truth to come out. He is a narcissist boyfriend! Ronnie needs to see the light and cut that boy loose. Ian was a new character with lots of entertaining excitement. I was glad to see a semi serious side come out. Steph is the best friend a girl could ever wish for and I enjoyed her much more in book 2. I only have two recommendations:. 1. Fix the missing words ! I highlighted them. Feel free to use my notes.
2. Lots of in depth detailed sex. It was hard to grasp a puritan pilgrim choosing to be seduced and This book flowed much better than the fist book!I can't wait for the 3rd book.
Wow. Okay. Where do I start? Let me write that I loved the multiple romances found in this adventure thriller time travel book. The process of going back in time was woven in a special way and each event was easily understood for each particular time event. Many twists and turns abound and much of the novel is covered during a brutal four day hurricane. Toss in one murderer and you come up with five stars.
A fast moving story that has romance, intrigue, future time travel, and severe storms. I found the plot believable, the characters well described, and the descriptions of the two hurricanes very realistic. Time travel is a fascinating concept which I would love to do if it were possible. The book ended rather abruptly which was disappointing, but now I will have to read book three.
Just finished book two and I seriously enjoyed the entire book as well as fell in love with her characters. Can’t wait to continue! I really would love more with Mathias!!! Highly recommend this series.
“There was a distinctive downside to showing up back in time as a woman.”
Shattering Time by KJ Waters is Book Two in the Stealing Time Series. This series reads as one long story, so be sure to read them in order. In Book One, Stealing Time, the characters are introduced, and the time traveling scenario is set. Click here to read my review of Stealing Time on Goodreads.
In Shattering Time, Ronnie Andrews is facing the wrath of yet another hurricane in the short time she has been living in Florida. After the harrowing and extremely thrilling time traveling adventure in Stealing Time, Ronnie is just not physically or mentally ready for another. But with her boyfriend, Jeffrey Brennan, secretly and selfishly pulling the strings behind the scenes, rife with his time travel science and inventions, Ronnie doesn’t really have a choice. Brace yourself for another impact in Shattering Time, because Ronnie and her friends are in for one wild and stormy ride.
Time travel stories are not new, but in Shattering Time, KJ Waters offers a rare glimpse of Ronnie’s physical liminal existence in the modern time while she is internally off on a dangerous escapade in the distant past. Her friend Stephanie, along with Steph’s boyfriend, Nick, and brother, Ian, know what’s going on with her but not why or how, and they desperately want her unresponsive body to ‘wake up.’ Getting her to the hospital during a hurricane proves to be risky and life threatening. If a deadly hurricane isn’t bad enough, Jeffrey’s time travel manipulations on Ronnie to satisfy his own scientific vainglory are absolutely terrifying. His attitude and feelings toward Ronnie vacillate between perceived concern, lust, anger, and clinical psychopathy. He is most definitely not the guy for her. In Book One, Stealing Time, Ronnie goes back to 1752 London and meets Mathias, who helps her when everyone else calls her a witch. In Shattering Time, Ronnie meets her new boss, Mike Walsh, and instantly feels a connection. When she goes back in time to colonial Roanoke in the 1500s, Ronnie immediately connects with Morris, who also tries to help her battle a devilish predicament. But is Mike an actual reincarnation of these two men from Ronnie’s time travel capers, or is he just another wrong guy with a dark past? Book Three, Killing Time, just may shed a bit of light on this.
KJ Waters has a wonderful gift of capturing the reader’s attention and imagination in this time traveling series. Shattering Time has a dynamic mix of perilous situations, historical depictions and interactions, and the value of true friendships/relationships.
A word of caution for sensitive readers: Shattering Time has a few sexual scenes that may be a bit too descriptive for some and has a couple of male characters who objectify women and spout a few too many sexually offensive remarks that may turn off some readers. One such character, Ian, does redeem himself later in the story, so that is a positive. If you offend easily, skim the sexy scenes and innuendoes, if you can, because you won’t want to miss out on this extremely entertaining story.
Let’s talk about the actual time travel. While Jeffrey is despicable, he has created an interesting means to transport someone to a different time. But is his technology safe and ready to transport humans without causing any physical or mental damage? While Jeffrey’s experiments reveal many flaws, Ronnie’s episodes back in time are quite historically interesting and riveting. As with most time traveling stories, disrupting history by your mere presence could be problematic. The first two books in the Stealing Time series do not really explore this aspect, but they do project both the abrupt and ongoing jeopardy and thrill of landing in someone else’s body and situation in a different time, somewhat reminiscent of the late 1980s Quantum Leap TV show, which I love.
Hats off to KJ Waters for a truly intriguing time travel story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, contemplate the folly of greedy humans, and appreciate friends who will never leave your physical side while you are time traveling. Remember, read the books in this series in order if you want to appreciate the overall development of the characters and their ongoing journeys. And the next time you find yourself in a massive hurricane, make sure you surround yourself with plenty of food and good friends and that you’re not dating an evil scientist who has no qualms about using you as a time-traveling guinea pig.
This is book 2. Book 1 was Stealing Time and it was amazing. This one started out slow with Ronnie telling Stephen all about her first journey back, but keep reading it gets better! Nick and Stephen are a couple now, awe. Jeffrey, the are is still in the story, I detest this character. We get to meet Mike Walsh in this book, he is Ronnie's new boss. We hear about not 1, but 2 trips that sleaze Jeffrey send Ronnie on and no one has figured out how its happening yet. I think Mike is going to be important. Get ready readers, there is going to be a book 3, Killing Time. Coming out in summer of 2018. This feels like a giant puzzle. Each book reveals more pieces! I just love the development of the characters with each book. I get to put a little more together each time. Now with the end of this book Mike had opened a new puzzle piece. Hopefully book 3 brings everything to a close. I can't wait!!
*I received this ebook free from the author for an honest review.
Your reading experience will definitely be "shattered" when you read this book. Shattering Time will keep your interest throughout the story and make you wonder if time travel could be concocted by a scientist as it is in this story. I did not read the first book in this series, but will be going back to it so I can see what came first.
The idea that we have existed in another time and another place is fascinating and there are many hints of that in this book. Also, the idea that a scientist could actually manipulate the weather and move storms off course is another scary idea. Too much fooling around with nature, to me is a very dangerous thing.
However, both these ideas surface in this story of Ronnie Andrews, who has recently taken a job in Orlando, Florida where she has recently experienced time travel to eighteenth century London. In this book, Hurricame Francis sends her hurtling into more time travel experiences, which I will not elaborate, but you will love them.
I highly recommend this book and will be looking for others from this author.
I just finished this book and again (as from the first book) am left hanging. Luckily I found Book 1 just the other day so I was able to jump right in to Book number 2. Question is where is Book 3? I see this one was published over two years ago. The storyline is great. A little different than most time travel romances I read (and I read a lot of them). Having lived in Orlando a good portion of my adult life I could relate very well to the setting. I even worked on Maitland Avenue so the familiarity of that was something I have never experienced while reading. It was part of what kept me going when the book started to drag on at times. So my question is when can we expect the third book so I can wrap this story up? The author had very good ideas for this story and a vivid imagination. Regardless of how long it took me to read it (a few days because it does drag at times) it had me hooked. So... where's that next part of the story?
the second book in the series was as good as the first. more time travel, deceit, fun and an amazing plot. this book kept me entertained the whole way through another excellent read. I cannot wait for the next book. pick up a copy of the first 2 books in this series you will not be disappointed!
I rate this book 4 1/2 stars. It's suspenseful, intriguing, page turner, mind boggling, keeps you on the edge of your seat and so much more. I recommend this book and will read again
I have been waiting impatiently for this book for quite some time, and only now that I finished it I am finally satisfied.. for a while, before I start craving the next one in the series. After her awful experiences from the time travel to 18th century, Ronnie is shaken and afraid of hurricanes, fearing that she might be kicked back in time again. When hurricane Frances hits, her fears prove to be true, and not only once - she ends up in several different times and places, travelling in close succession without any time to recover. The strain from being torn from her present physical body and pushed in the past might be disastrous, when Ronnie falls into coma without any trace of regaining consciousness, and the threat of her possible death becomes more real with every minute her soul is away. Ronnie, now stuck in a colony in 16th century America, wonders if she would be able to come back to her normal life, not knowing about the shattered time device.. When I read book one, I was totally hooked and couldn't wait for the next piece to come out. Now that I laid my hands on the desired book, I am in love with the story even more than before.. though it certainly raised more questions than before. How would the relationship with Jeffrey end? How would they prove his involvement and responsibility? What is Mike hiding in his past exactly, and where would he end with Ronnie? And more more questions regarding the time travelling, aligning past incarnations etc. I also feel that the sex scenes were a bit too much in this case. Contrary to the previous book, there was much more of the on-the-screen adult content, and mostly for the pleasure of the reader. I don't mind it much since it adds some steam to the story, but does not really move the plot forward (except for one case, of course). On the other hand, the whole time travel thing and ingenious, although horrible, scientific experiments are absolutely exciting. I can't imagine how it must feel to be pushed around like a ragdoll in time, preparing psychically for another inevitable, terrifying death experience. Really, Jeffrey's character is exquisitely built, and being the selfish arrogant prick with overgrown ego he is, he serves as the perfect antagonist, the pure evil element hidden behind good looks and manipulative charm. I wanted to punch him in the face literally every time he appeared on the scene. I loved the other characters, too. Ronnie is quite the strong and brave heroine, although I sometimes can't understand why she remains with Jeffrey if she feels around him the way she does. I am also very curious about the secrets surrounding Mike and how the connecting details will unravel in time. The complexity, quite high believability of the story despite the sci-fi and fantasy elements, and the imaginative attractivity of time travelling make the book an exciting reading experience, and I am already looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed.
I love a good time travel story. The other day I found reruns of a 60's show called Time Tunnel. I loved the movie 'Final Countdown' as well as 'Time after Time', both obscure to many. That said, when I had a chance to read a time story as an advance copy I decided to go for it.
I was not disappointed, well not a lot shall we say. Like most books lately it is part of a series of books. In reading any of these, if you do not start with the first one, you can get confused. Here I was book 2. However, the author was able to work the basic storyline of book 1 into the opening chapters in a way that I did not need to read it. And I can see that there is another book brewing, but this one left with a complete story.
I have two major problems. 1) Sex. Ok, I understand it sells books. It seems like there were multiple sexual acts described in full detail. I cannot see most of them led to the the continuation of the story. Only one really. Others could have been covered with how the heroine though back of the night they shared or something like that. 2) Out heroine who seems to be a got it together 2o something, seems to not have it together in romance at all. She seems to hate her boyfriend but stays with him (Stockholm Syndrome). And yet seems to fall in love with her soul mate(s) time after time (pun intended).
The science nature seems plausible even though we know that time travel can not be done. Historically it seems accurate based on what I know. Story wise, great characters that appear well thought out.
Would I recommend it. I would if you can get past the over use of sex in the story. I might have give it another star if it had been toned down.
Ronnie’s boyfriend is doing things to her that she has no idea about. He found a way to make thins go into the past. He experienced with cats first. Now he is sending Ronnie into the past. From 2004 to London 1752 then to the Bahamas 1952 then the last colony of Roanoke Island 1588. He barely got her back to the future. She is so confused as to was she really there or just a dream.
If I had known I'd have to read the next book, to see what happens next. I wouldn't have started this one. But this was a good book. I don't usually like reading books where the women seem so helpless. I truly enjoyed this book. The time travel was interesting and I couldn't put it down. Well worth reading.
Ronnie's boyfriend Jeffrey is secretly using her as a test subject in his time travel experiments. Each time a hurricane hits, Ronnie is thrust back in time to different locations and she must die to come back. Very intriguing book filled with mystery and awesome adventures.
What an engrossing storyline. The characters, the relationships, the history all combined to keep me enthralled for hours. Putting the book down for any length of time is impossible. Even in my dreams, the story continues, maybe not as actually written but what a trip.
This review spans all three books in the Stealing Time series.
There are some series where you can pick up any volume and the overall story will make sense. KJ Waters' Stealing Time series is not one of them. Written for an audience clearly accustomed to binge-watching, this trilogy (so far) is a gripping story where each sequel expands the universe, adding characters and details.
Time travel, in general, is not a new concept in fiction, and these novels seem to be descendants of both Quantum Leap and Somewhere in Time, although in this case, there is no specific villain being tracked through history, but rather, the main character's sense of self and self-worth. What is unique is the mechanism behind the time travel: the use of storms – specifically hurricanes - to generate power.
That main character is Veronica “Ronnie” Andrews, recently relocated to central Florida, partly to take a new job, but also to be near her fiancé, the brilliant but conniving Jeffrey, and her best friend Steph. All seems to be progressing in a typical love-story direction, when a hurricane hits the Orlando area on Ronnie’s birthday, and Jeffrey whisks her off to his weather lab, wines and dines her, and presents her with a gift, a replica (he claims) of a rose-gold watch Ronnie admired on a trip to London with Steph.
And then Ronnie travels to London, in 1752, just in time for the great time-shift which has nothing to do with moving through centuries, and everything to do with England finally joining the rest of the western world in using the Gregorian calendar (and subsequently eliminating eleven days of September from existence).
To be honest, there’s not that much time travel for a series centered upon the concept. In Stealing Time, it’s 1752 London, in Shattering Time, it’s the lost Roanoke colony, and in Killing Time, it’s the Old West, though in each of these trips, Ronnie is not quite in the place we know, but rather a similar parallel universe (the multi-verse theory is mentioned in the novels). In each time, Ronnie encounters people who help her, and people who wish her harm, and in each she must take drastic measures to return home.
Author KJ Waters has created, in this series, a group of compelling, if not always likeable, characters. Ronnie, at the heart, is a mixture of intelligence, intellectual curiosity, and low self-esteem. At times, I wanted to grab her by the shoulders and shake some sense into her. Jeffrey is a manipulator and a gas lighter, and it’s a credit to the author’s writing skills that my dislike of him is so visceral that I wanted to commit violence to his person.
Steph and her eventual partner Nick are good support characters, with development that grows throughout the series, but while they are integral to the main story, providing Ronnie with a support system, the subplot following their romance felt weak to me, and took time away from the main story. When Steph’s raunchy brother Ian joins the action in the latter two books and the b-team turns more toward detective work with smatterings of romance, the entire series becomes both more interesting and more cohesive.
Also important to the story, in books two and three (especially three) is Ronnie’s boss Mike, and the nearly instant connection they seem to have. Mike comes off a stock hero at first, but as his story unwinds, he becomes dimensional and interesting, and I’d happily read a novel focused entirely on him.
Overall, KJ Waters does three things very well in this series:
Pacing, which more than makes up for the few minor plot- and character inconsistencies (spellings of names, and chronology errors) – each book feels both complete and one act in a greater whole, and that balance is tricky to navigate. Attention to Detail, including little details of historical accuracy like how people cleaned themselves after using the toilet, or what sorts of oral hygiene were practiced, as well as her obvious research into quantum physics and weather systems. Description: I felt and heard every moment of each storm, saw each flash of lightning, experienced the confusion of stumbling around in the damp, dark after a power outage. Similarly, the depictions of each time period Ronnie visited were cinematic in the way they were described on the page.
There is one thing, though, that should be addressed. I am not a prudish reader. I like a well-written sex scene as much as anyone. Much of the sex in these novels, however, while depicted with a good sense of space and how anatomy fits into it, is not healthy or loving, but used to manipulate and abuse, and, in some cases, assault. It’s not gratuitous, as it shows who certain characters really are, and how they perceive the world, but sensitive readers should be warned. I found some of the scenes distasteful, but I also understood that they were meant to be.
The Stealing Time trilogy is a refreshing take on time travel and a compelling blend of science, fantasy, mystery, romance, and intrigue. The author has said that book four is due next year, and I cannot wait to see how this story continues.
Goes well with cold beer and a sandwich de mezcla (a Puerto Rican sandwich made with a spam/cheese dip spread and roasted red peppers).
Thank you to Lonestar Literary and author KJ Waters for a complimentary copy of Shattered Time. I was initially interested in KJ Water’s Shattered Time as it has a great cover and I love time travel stories. I did not read the first in the series but was provided a summary of the plot. Despite this, I was a bit confused by the plot and would recommend that readers start with book one.
Ronnie has recently moved to Florida to be with her best friend Steph and has gotten a job with the same company. Ronnie’s genius but abusive boyfriend Jeffrey also lives in the area. He has created a battery-operated, portable time travel machine and is experimenting on Ronnie. We learn that in book one, Ronnie’s brain, not body, was transferred to a host woman in the past. Ronnie’s return was facilitated by a tragic event, which Ronnie experienced before waking up in her own body and time. When she explains what happened to her friend Steph, she believes her and blames Jeffrey who is a manipulative bully.
Jeffrey has an evil genius sexy lab friend who can control the strength and direction of hurricanes and soon a second hurricane is barreling down on them. Meanwhile, Ronnie starts her new job in sales. Her boss is hot, hot, hot and she feels an instant connection with him. Steph’s troublesome younger brother Ian arrives from Scotland, with a naked lady tattoo and a penchant for hitting on any female in sight.
Despite the fact that Jeffrey is a jealous nasty piece of work, Ronnie loves to shag him. Which she does, in great detail. During the second hurricane, evil Jeffrey once again tosses Ronnie back in time. To say more would spoil the story, but I will say, you will not believe the cliff-hanger ending! I found the premise of the book intriguing and the method of time travel unusual and inventive. Ronnie does not spend much time in the past in this book which was a disappointment as that’s what I was looking forward to. However, the historical details are well done. It is clear that the author is dropping clues as to how Jeffrey developed his machine and there are links to men in the past that have bearing on her current life. As I said, the book ends on a cliff-hanger.
I would hesitate to call this a romance as clearly there is no love between Jeffrey and Ronnie. There is a copious amount of sex. The character’s dialogue is peppered with sexual innuendos and discussions about the sexiness and body physique of other characters is rife.
If you enjoy saucy time travel you will find this book right up your alley.
