Garrett and Lauren are good friends with an attraction to one another. They tried to do something about it once and the result definitely didn't quite meet with expectation. Garrett wants to try again and in this case, second time is definitely a charm. I liked that these two were close before introducing intimacy and the attraction translated to some hot scenes but I was left to wonder if they only pushed for the coupling because their circle of friends was perfectly paired up to one another.
The writing was solid and strong but the pacing is on the slow side and there is a lot of internalizing that lost my attention at times. A good deal could have been trimmed without really losing the story's substance. It felt too much like filler. With a title like "Sex God" I would've expected the book to be full of...well... sex, but it honestly wasn't overtly sexualized. I enjoyed that there was more depth to it than that.
This was my very first Marie Force story and I have friends that are fans. I might check out another series to see if perhaps it jives with my tastes a little better. I didn't dislike this at all, it just didn't really grip me either.

Garrett McKinley and Lauren Davies have been friends since the sixth grade. They have always been there for each other despite the fact they were never truly honest about their feelings. She suffered through a bad marriage and divorce, but has her roots firmly planted. He also ended up stuck in their hometown of Marfa, Texas taking care of his family and family business instead of conquering the larger corporate world outside of their small town. He relieves his sexual tension by one night stands with rotating tourists and maintains a Sex God status. But the one time he and Lauren got a bit tipsy and tried to get physical, it went all wrong.
But Garrett is making plans to leave Marfa now that he has met his responsibilities with his family. But one loose end is Lauren, who now feels like she did something wrong or that she is not desirable. So he manages to convince her to give him a chance to at least prove that their previous disaster was just a fluke so she will not continue to harbor insecurities about it. What can go wrong with a little dating, wooing, and sexy times?
They really are great friends who always loved each other. But once they really explore heir chemistry at the right time, it virtually explodes. The previously known Sex God had never even had it that good. They are raw, insatiable, and it was enhanced by their connection and feelings.
But Garrett is keeping a secret and he's got a big decision to make. He was looking to finally get out and follow his dreams. but now with his changing status with Lauren, his ties to Marfa just increased. And the longer he lies about it, the harder it will be to explain. Can he have both the girl of his dreams and the career he has always wanted? Or will he have to sacrifice again to make those he cares about happy?
This was an engaging, sweet, funny, hot, and not too angsty friends-to-lovers story. Their friends in Marfa are fun, quirky, and supportive. I enjoyed their relationships and banter. I did not read Sex Machine, but Honey and Blake, Matt and Julie, Scarlett and Brock all make appearances. Also a new man, Jace, is introduced that has hero potential. It was told in dual points of view and the the main couple was completely likable. Garrett was alpha, sweet, sexy, unfiltered, and so funny. And Lauren was caring, sassy, cautious, strong, and had a big heart. I adored them together, and the fast-paced story sucked me right into this small town world with their friends and family.
SEX GOD is a best friends to lovers story of Garrett McKinley and Lauren Davies. Best friends since they were kids, the two have been feeling something special for each other but the time for them was never right. Garrett had to go conquer the big city and study, Lauren had to stay and get married. Now, fast forward to the present, things in their personal lives happened and altered everything they thought they've already planned.
The H and the h have an amazing chemistry since they've known each other for a long time. Most of their exchanges are natural and quite romantic. The conversations were comfortable, but damn, when they're in the room... it's so different! The sexual tension between them is unbearable!
Sex God just started a bit slow for me. It was a little too descriptive that made me feel it's long when actually it's not. I was just looking for that balance between the beginning and ending of the story. But other than that, I find this book enjoyable!

A fun, playful sexy entertaining read!!!! Marie Force sizzles up the pages as she brings forth another wildly hot read in Sex God. Seriously, who doesn’t love a friends to lovers story line. I know I am complete sucker for them. And to witness what Garrett and Lauren had for each other, I was sold. Their friendship is what made this book so much endearing as they tried hard not to blur the lines so their friendship could remain intact but with feelings like a volcano waiting to erupt, it was only a matter of time till their friendship and passion collided. So if you are looking for one hot read that was playful, emotional and downright steamy then I would recommend you to read this book now.
Another amazing book by Marie Force. I am quickly starting to realize that Ms Force can write a phone book and I would read it. Her writing in Sex God was flawless!
Sex God is Lauren and Garrett's story. This book can be read as a standalone but I would really recommend reading Sex Machine first. Both characters are introduced in that book and you also get to see what our favorite character's Honey and Blake have been up to Sex God.
Lauren and Garrett have been best-friends since the 6th grade and have always been each other go to person. After Lauren's divorce from her abusive jerk of an ex Wayne a couple of years ago Garrett makes it a point to really be there for her in every way. After a hook-up between these 2 gone wrong they decide to give it another try but little does these two know just how explosive they can be together. The only problem is Garrett is wanting to get out of the little town of Marfa Texas after his youngest sister finally graduates high school so that he can get on with the life he had planned before his father's death when graduated college years ago.
"I love you so ...much. Every beat of my heart is for you- only you-and it always has been. No one will ever love you the way I do."
So... yes Sex God is a MUST Summer read that will have you all hot and bother by more than just the summer heat. The chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS HOT. Go 1-click NOW you won't be disappointed and you can Thank me later. :-)
I LOVE a good friends to lovers romance and second chance romances are my ultimate weakness!! Luckily, Marie Force’s Sex God is a little bit of both, and it is one of the best of the two genres that I have read in a long time! Sex God is one epic piece of sinful deliciousness that lit a fire inside of me and incinerated my kindle! Take the title of this book literally, because this friends to lovers romance is packing some seriously sexy, HEAVENLY heat that will torch you from the inside out!
I adored this book for so many reasons!!! Who can resist the story of two childhood friends who grow up together while secretly harboring a romantic desire for each other? Lauren and Garrett’s connection sizzles from the onset of the novel. The chemistry between them is palpable and eventually, they cross the line from platonic to romantic. After a failed attempt at taking things further they reconcile themselves to remaining friends while both of them quietly yearns for more.
These characters!!! Garrett is sexy as hell and his incredible god-like “skills” within the four walls of a bedroom had my eyes popping out of my head and my heart leaping in my chest! He rightfully earns the title of “Sex God” along with a reputation for being a man who knows how to please!!! However, what truly drew me to his character was the deeper aspects of his personality. He is intelligent, passionate, and some of his inner dialogue had me howling in laughter!!! In addition, he is dedicated to his family and his love for Lauren was blatantly obvious way before he was willing to acknowledge it himself. The heroine, Lauren survives so much emotional turmoil; she is strong, loving, vibrant and insecure after her failed marriage. I loved how Garrett reinvigorated her spirit and reignited her physical passion; she was like a flower that blossomed with tender loving care after withering without water for so long!
Another aspect of Sex God that I found irresistible was the small town magic and sense of family ties that Marie Force created in Lauren and Garrett’s hometown of Marfa, Texas. The fact that she included characters from the previous novel, Sex Machine only added to the enjoyable nature of this book! You cannot help but love the light-hearted tone of some of the interactions between Garrett and some of the secondary characters like Honey and Blake!
Sex God perfectly portrays the dynamic between two friends who yearn to become lovers but hold themselves back in an effort to preserve their friendship. I found myself hanging on by a thread, desperate for these two to finally wake the hell up and acknowledge their emotional and physical potential as a couple. And when they do…..sweet lawd almighty!!!! That one scene alone makes this book UNFORGETTABLE! You will fan yourself and you will feel the burn!
I highly recommend Sex God to anyone who enjoys watching two friends succumb to an extraordinary level of passion that can no longer be denied and the love that blooms as a result of their decision to finally give in and stop fighting the inevitable! This book hit all the right notes for me; it is entertaining, fun, flirty, seductive and had me giggling and swooning!
I tip my hat to Marie Force, and you will too! So read it!
Garrett McKinley and Lauren Davies have been best friends since 6th grade. They talk about anything and everything (except a secret dream that Garrett is keeping buried).
When Garrett's father dies unexpectedly, he comes home to run the Accounting Firm and take care of his mother and siblings. This was not his dream, but he does it without complaint.
Garrett and Lauren have strong ties to their hometown of Marfa.
One drunken night Garrett and Lauren decided to take things to the next step. It turns out to be a disaster.
This encounter does not in any way get in the way of their friendship, they go on being friends.
Years later Garrett has gotten his father's accounting firm built up and plans to leave Marfa for a job he has always secretly wanted in a bigger town then Marfa. Before he is getting ready to go on this much anticipated interview, he wants to see what would happen if he wooed Lauren.
Garrett talks Lauren into letting him slowly seduce her and she agrees. What Garrett doesn't take into account is that he may not be able to leave his heart in Marfa. Also, he is a man, so he is undoubtedly going to do something stupid. Can he leave Marfa and everything behind and can he earn back trust that he loses along the way?
I did so enjoy the banter and the romance in this book. I found it charming, yet sexy and fun. I definitely plan to continue on with books written by Marie Force.
NOTE: I have given this book 4 stars, but I think had I realized there was a book prior to this, it might have gotten a higher star rating, because I felt like there was a background that I was missing and I have no one to blame but myself for not realizing there was a book that came before this. Although it can be read as a stand alone, I'm one of those people who absolutely has to read books in order.
Sex God by Marie Force is my first novel by this author. I found it to be well written with likeable characters and a sexy plot.
This novel follows the story of Lauren and Garrett. Lauren has been traumatized by the past, and Garrett wants to use his extreme talents to help her heal, move on, and find love again. Even while he is trying to help her, he is looking for his escape from a town he never meant to return to for the rest of his life. Their initial go at intimacy is a bust, but when these two give it a second change their chemistry explodes. In addition to their clear connection, both of these characters are incredibly affable, although somewhat simplistic.
The plot of Sex God follows a pretty basic plot trajectory. There are no surprises or twists, and the conflict is pretty straight forward from the very beginning. However, I still enjoyed the story and watching these two develop from friends to more. Plus, as I said before, the sex is pretty HOT!
Readers who are looking for a light read should definitely pick up Sex God. They will get fun and steamy with low angst and drama, which is sometimes just what a romance reader needs. --------------- ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

Sex God by Marie Force was just amazing!!! Garrett is my new book boyfriend that is for sure!!! I loved everything about him. He is known as the Sex God. He will give you the time of your life behind closed doors. Living in such a small town, he tries to stay away from the drama and gossip. But every one knows what he is famous for. Even though he is a ladies man, he has his eyes set on only one girl since they were kids. His Lo!
Lauren had a very hard life growing up. She is grateful that she always had her band of friends that help her through. She married the wrong man and since the divorce she has been on a dry spell. She is pouring her heart out to Garrett and he is willing to right a wrong they both made 6 months before. Lauren is ready to take the challenge and wowza! These two are hot and insatiable together. I have read many books with characters that show they have amazing chemistry. But these two have the friendship, the trust, compatibility, and love like no other. They are great! Their time together was only to last a week. Just after a couple of days together, they know it needs to be more. That puts a dent on Garrett's plan to move on up in his career. Will he make a decision to stay, or will he follow a dream that died a few years back?
Sex God was not only sexy and hot, you will laugh and cry with the characters. You love them hard too. Marie Force did great when she wrote Sex Machine, and did it again with Sex God. Your emotions get all twisted up. I loved this book and recommend it whole heartily!
I'm ready to visit Marfa, Texas. What a hot bed of romantic hometown love. I grew up in a small rural town, so I love this community where ever one knows each and and has for years. It leads to a different kind of commitment.
Love, friendship and hormones butt heads in Garrett and Lauren's dance of seduction. Marie Force always brings out that loving feeling with her appetizing heartwarming romances, however Sex God packs on the heat while still delivering some sugar for that sweet tooth, I've developed an addiction for.
Garrett and Lauren started nice and quick. The first scene of them in the bar for beer and wings setup a strong base for their friendship.
I liked the dual POV up until their second chance consummation. after that H's narrative became long winded and repeatative as he goes on his feelings for Lauren, on not telling anyone about his need to leave and free himself from family responsibility and his job interview.
ugh. after Garrett figures out his feelings for Lauren I don't know why he doesn't tell her of his potential job offer, especially since she's going to be attending the dinner meeting. does he not think there's a chance it would come up?!
spoiler alert
and then when they exchange their I love yous and he still doesn't think he should tell her what's going on with his Austin meeting and his future plans, it just seems ridiculous to have this as a foreshadowed conflict point that I want to quit reading. this wouldve been where they talked about possibilities of moving, if she would want to open a new shop in the big city or try something else. pros and cons are never discussed with him taking the job and I feel bad for Garrett that there's no discussion to evolve his dreams in compromises at least. . I should've quit reading.
when the secret is out about his job interview (not even accepted!!) Lauren runs away. now Lauren has a missed opportunity to find out what Garrett's plans were and if they had changed. c'mon, in a week's time they got together, said I love you and got engaged . it's not a big stretch to think what they thought their future held a week ago would now be different in so many aspects..duh. I also didn't understand why staying in Marfa had to be the only end game. another reason I should've quit reading was when his friends made him feel guilty for wanting to advance his career when they relied on his business. really?!
The ending didn't satisfy me. although it was nice that Garrett became a consultant with the same company from Austin it would've been better if he had figured out a creative way to grow his career himself. (btw, a consultant position on an "informal basis" sounds like a crap deal.) another reason I was disappointed with the end was his burden of responsibility with his family didn't appear to resolve and there wasn't an apology from his friend with the burden of responsibility they placed on him mentioned from the hospital.
One of the greatest best friends to lovers stories I have ever read! It was fun and unique and sexy!
Both Garrett and Lauren had been aware of each other in more than just friends for quite some time but it was never really the right time and quite frankly, when is it ever the right time to potentially explode your best friend relationship? Never, that's the answer. But then the day just came and BAM (and not the way you think LOLOLOL) ... The book is titled Sex God for a reason and if you read it (which you should), you'll find out why and also why BAM doesn't mean what you think it means ;)
The story was very low on drama and very high on heart. Both Garrett and Lauren were very likeable and the story was true and relatable. It's a quick read so have fun and enjoy!
The only one tiny thing I would say is that technically, this does stand on it's own, but I would recommend reading Sex Machine first.
Marie Force sets small town Marfa, Texas ablaze once again with a friends-to-lovers spin in this sexy standalone. Hellfire! The follow-up to Sex Machine is hotter than blue blazes! And a dang terrific tale to read, too. This is an author who never fails to come up with surprising new angles and roads to travel for her characters. You’ll get a little update on Blake and Honey, and what’s going on in their lives. Don’t tell Marie, but I really liked Garrett and Lauren’s story just a smidgeon better — but both were five-star reads for me. All these characters deserve five stars tattooed across their foreheads.
Anyway, let’s get back to the present. WHOA doggies — Garrett sure fit the part of “Sex God.” Sex-on-a-stick, he’s such an all-around good guy even when he wasn’t being quite so honest. Maybe he has a little bit of devil in him, too. If you read Force’s books, you know her heroes aren’t always perfect, but they tend to be perfectly imperfect. That’s what makes them all so much fun.
And Garrett is nothing, if not fun, along with being gorgeous and hot, sweet and gentle and kind and gorgeous — have I already mentioned that fact? Well, it’s true and so worthy of repeating. And before I forget, he’s also a dutiful son, a loyal friend and an outstanding businessman. And we’ll top it off with hilariously funny, as well.
Lauren shared a problem -- of the very personal variety -- with Garrett. What’s a best friend to do — but fix it for her, of course. Too bad the Sex God’s “fix” fizzled, and the problem took a deeper nosedive. Lauren thinks she’s bad at sex. Garrett thinks there’s no way that is possible. Will there be another chance for Garrett to prove to Lauren that she’s everything and more?
Geez, I feel as if I’m slacking where Lauren is concerned. She’s also a very lovable character, who’s strong and hardworking. She’s seen some hard times. But her beauty shines through it all. Trying to recover from a rocky divorce, she’s hoping for that second chance at sugar and “spicey” and all that’s oh-so-good and nice this time around. Wouldn’t it be perfect if her best friend, and the guy that has always been “The One” in her heart, made all her dreams come true?
The long-term friendship aspect of this story and its influence on the romance that takes center stage is especially enjoyable. As always, Ms. Force adds lots of humor, wit, a touch of angst, and meaningful dialogue for an extra dose of depth to the story. Everything in good time. No insta-lust or insta-sex here, my friends. (Note: I hate that wham/bam/thank you ma’am stuff!) This has been a slow build from a childhood friendship into an explosive love connection. I don’t know how these two kept their longing for one another under wraps for so many years — especially when family and friends figured it out years ago. No need to worry though, because you can expect plenty of scorching hot and sexy scenes between the sheets that go a long ways in making up for those lost years.
Big dreams and secrets that can no longer remain hidden play a major role in whether or not there’s a happy-ever-after for this couple. There’s certainly some ‘splainin to do. Will secrets and sex destroy a long-term friendship? See for yourself and enjoy all the witty banter, friendships, and sizzling and steamy romance all wrapped up into a total package of fun.
If you’re a fan of steamy friends-to-lovers’ trope, search no more! Hit the road to Marla, Texas. Garrett and Lauren are just waiting to share their story with you.
And P.S. — a new guy named Jace, packin’ a whole lot of sexy heat, just arrived in town. Sounds like he might have a tale of his own to tell. Hmmm, wonder if this smooth talking stranger will be able to sweet talk our terrific author into visiting Marla soon for another sexy round?
All of the elements were here for me to really enjoy this book. Lauren and Garrett have been friends for years, and even tried once to be more. But, it was a disaster, so they have moved on and back to friends, preserving the relationship they value and pretending like the night didn't happen.
Friends to lovers is a favorite of mine, as the navigation of the change of the relationship is a a lot of the fun of the story. In this title, I felt this was skipped a little, like they went straight into the relationship. And, while this works for the characters, I think I wanted a little bit more of the exploration of the story.
This held true for a lot of the book, that it went from scene to scene without really digging deep into the story, going over the top of it a bit. And, while this makes for a lighter story, there were elements of this book that felt like they maybe needed a little more depth to really address them.
The book wasn't bad, and Lauren and Garrett have great chemistry, and the parts with them were fun. I think I just wanted more.
Sex God is a standalone read but if you read Sex Machine, you’ll be happy to get updates on Honey and Blake in this one. This one is Garrett and Lauren’s story. Garrett is a decent guy. He and Lauren are best friends. Garrett has a reputation of being a sex god. After a not good sexual experience with Garrett, Lauren thinks it she is bad at sex. Garrett is now out to prove to Lauren that there is nothing wrong with her. I loved that Garrett and Lauren were down to earth characters and their chemistry was great. Garrett is a businessman who has been running his Dad’s business and taking care of his family but he’s looking to follow his dream in the business world. Lauren is grounded in town and Garrett is looking to move. I was kind of worried that one of them was going to make a decision that in the long run they would not be happy with.
Marie Force has created another fantastic stand alone book, set in the small town of Marfa, Texas. Sex God is a sweet, yet sexy read that draws you in from the start and does not let go. Marie continues to be a talented author and has made me fall more in lobe with each of the characters she has created.
Six years ago, the life Garret's life was turned upside down, when his father unexpectedly died. Instead of going to a Fortune 500 company, or becoming a CFO for a major corporation, he came home to run his father's company. He was needed to help his mother and his siblings. His one goal was to set them up for life, so they wouldn't need him anymore. Then he can go back to his dreams.
Garret takes his responsibly seriously and for the most part has kept his private life to himself. Now that his youngest sister is graduating, his plans are to sell his company and leave. But there is just one thing he has to do before he can go. He has to figure out how to tie the loose end with his best friend Lauren.
As I read this book, I fell in love with the entire town of Marfa. I certainly hope there will be more fom this small town in the future!
In Sex God, best friends Garrett and Lauren have to figure out if they can take their relationship to the next level without losing what they already have.
I generally love a friends-to-lovers story. This one seemed like it would be right up my alley and written by one of my favorite authors. But the romance between Garrett and Lauren fell a little flat to me. They'd known each other for years. Garrett had been there for her during the worst time of her life. So I'm not quite sure how he thought he could hide the fact that he was planning on leaving their small Texas town. And knowing how badly he wanted to get out of there, I wasn't really sure why he even started down the path he did with Lauren.
There was plenty to love about Lauren and Garrett together, especially when he went alpha male on was determined to protect her. But it was the little secret that he managed to never tell his best friend that made this story fall a little flat to me. I still enjoyed it, but this wasn't my favorite of the author's books.
Sex God was a really great read. It was a wonderful mix of several tropes. Garrett and Lauren have been friends since childhood, each having secret feelings for one another. It's also part second chance romance. They tried to be intimate once before, but failed miserably. These two characters have an amazing connection, sizzling chemistry and so much heart. They truly are perfect together. That is the part I love most about second chance romances. The discovery of new feelings, exploring it all and the realization moment, that usually hits like a lightning bolt. This was a fun, sexy read.
Sex God by Marie Force is a stand-alone contemporary romance novel. Sex God is the follow up to Sex Machine.
While Sex Machine was Blake and Honey´s book, Sex God is Garrett and Lauren´s story. Garrett is not content with his life. He bides his time and believes he´s destinated for other things. And there is his best friend.... I greatly enjoyed reading Sex God. In Sex God you´ll meet old friends from Sex Machine and that I loved too. Sex God is a witty, fun read and I was well entertained. 4,5 Stars and Thank you Marie Force!
I am a huge fan of Marie Force's Fatal series so when the opportunity presented itself for me to read an ARC of Sex God I jumped at the chance. I will not compare the two because they are totally different but I will say that I was thrilled with this read, and in my honest opinion this lighter side of Ms Force is a great addition to her repertoire. I did not read Sex Machine and you do not need to in order to read this book, each story can be read as a standalone. That being said I will go back and read Sex Machine at a later date. You can read my full review here: https://nadineisobsessedwithbooks.blo...
Marie Force is by far my favorite author. It doesn't matter what she writes she manages to keep me up at night reading. With a book title of Sex God you'd assume full on trashy but it's absolutely not. This is a full on love story and good book.
"You deserve so much better than what you got from me. I think you are..." "What? What am I?" "You're everything."
Marie Force has done it once again!!!
Garrett and Lauren are the epitome of second chance romance mixed in with friends-to-lovers. They have the best way of showing what "perfect timing" means!
Being friends since they were kids, they had always been around each other. But they have hid their feelings for way too long. Between tragedies and horrible past relationships, they are finally seeing who has been there all along...each other.
"We've wasted so much time." "No. We were busy getting to a place where we were ready for this."
This book highlights many aspects of friendship and love.
I swooned as much as I soared with every word written. It made me think of my own relationship and being married to my best friend who I met in middle school.
"Seriously, Lo. I'm ready for you, for us, for this. I love you so much. I always have, but now..." "Now it's so much more."
I couldn't get enough of these two!! Not to mention the other charcters along the way.
I can't wait for more of this series, but I will miss these two!! I have such a soft spot for friends-to-lovers tales<3
Wonderful read!!
"Life is good and getting better all the time--and it's all because of Lauren, the girl I fell in love with in sixth grade."
I've been a fan of Marie Force's since I began exclusively reading romance in the post-Fifty Shades days of 2012. She was one of the first authors I turned to in those days, and while I may not have read every single one of the many, many wonderful books she's written, I have read an overwhelming majority of them. I've recommended them countless times, and I've never had a moment's hesitation in doing so. When I think about great contemporary romance, Marie Force is one of the first authors that comes to my mind. There is something very comforting about getting lost in one of her books. She creates characters that readers can connect with because they are genuine, relatable and believable; she builds worlds the reader can vividly picture and want to return to time and time again; and her interesting plots center around a sweet and sexy love story against the backdrop of family, friends and a quirky small town.
Sex God is part friends-to-lovers, part second-chance romance set in a rural West Texas town. For me personally, that combination is irresistible, and it equates to contemporary romance magic. I love characters who have a long history, and that’s exactly what childhood best friends, Lauren and Garrett, have together. Their relationship was easy, comfortable and full of chemistry that they both were studiously ignoring while secretly longing to explore. It was blatantly obvious to everyone – except, of course, the hero and heroine – that they loved each other, were perfect for one another and that they were meant to be together. I read this book in eager anticipation of that moment when their worlds shift, realization dawns and then understanding sets in, and everything about this one, from the build-up to the instant it all becomes clear, was perfect. Their relationship had always been sweet and caring, but once they crossed the threshold to lovers and acknowledged that they were in love, the dynamic between them totally changed from something great to something incredible. I sighed, swooned and soared right along with this couple as they chased their happily-ever-after.
Sex God is the much anticipated follow up to Sex Machine, and from what I've read, I can honestly say that they're both standalone stories as my experience with this book was not at all impeded by the fact that I haven't read the first book – a situation, by the way, that I am immediately remedying. This book was everything I love about contemporary romance: a romantic and tender love story between a couple I really wanted to be together, a cast of supporting characters who added the dimension that turned this story into something truly special and enough sizzling heat to get my Kindle smoking in my hands. My romance-reading, happily-ever-after seeking heart was full and happy every step of the way as I devoured this fantastic story. Five smooches from me for Marie Force’s Sex God! ~ Danielle Palumbo
I inherited a life I never intended to live. I've upheld my responsibilities admirably. And I’ve taken care of my own needs privately... I'm biding my time until I can get the hell out of here. But I didn’t count on having unfinished business With one of my very best friends…
When a man has a certain “reputation" to uphold, There can be no unhappy customers left behind. Lauren is a loose end that won’t be tied up no matter how hard I try. And I try hard. Really, really… hard.
Sex God, a stand-alone contemporary romance, is the much-anticipated follow-up to Sex Machine.
•••••••••
REVIEW: SEX GOD is the second installment in Marie Force’s contemporary adult, stand alone, erotic, romance series. This is successful businessman and CPA Garrett McKinley, and florist Lauren Davies’ story line. SEX GOD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual first person points of view (Lauren and Garrett) SEX GOD follows the friends to lovers relationship between Marfa, Texas’s lone florist Lauren Davies, and businessman Garrett McKinley. Six years earlier, upon the death of his father, Garrett McKinley took over the family business and made it the successful firm it is today. Garrett never wanted to remain to Marfa, Texas but for the woman he has loved for most of his life. Enter Lauren Davies, his best friend, and the woman that calls to his heart-a heart that wants to leave Marfa, Texas for bigger and better ideas.
Garrett McKinley has a reputation as a ‘sex-god’; a one night stand kind of guy who is desperately attracted to his best friend Lauren. Months earlier following a less than stellar night of sex with Lauren, the two have struggled with their friendship and love. Garrett wants a do-over with no strings attached; Lauren wants something more from the man that she loves. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and seductive.
The secondary and supporting characters include Blake Dempsey and Honey Carmichael (Sex Machine #1), as well as Matt and Julie first introduced in Blake and Honey’s story line; police chief Brock Hernandez, and Scarlett. I am hoping for a story between Brock and Scarlett. The requisite evil is a man from Lauren’s past that is determined to prove he is still in control.
The world building continues to look at the friendships, relationships and loves of a tight knit group of friends and family in Marfa, Texas.
SEX GOD is a sexy read; a provocative and sexy story about two friends who are fated by life and love; an intimate look at friendship, life and passion. The premise is delightful; the characters are colorful and energetic; the romance is spicy and captivating. SEX GOD is a lighthearted and sensual story by Marie Force.
Fun and flirty, childhood friends to lovers romance that is heartwarming but gets oh so sexy!
Sex God is a scorching sexy read but also a surprisingly really sweet, fun and flirty, childhood friends to lovers (mixed with a dash of friends with benefits) romance that is heartwarming but gets oh so sexy.
Garrett and Lauren are two childhood friends who know they have a strong chemistry but life circumstances always got in the way for one reason or another. However, as a result of their irresistible chemistry and strong friendship, turns out their attraction can’t be ignored any longer and things finally explode in a deliciously hot and sexy way. While the book is told mostly from Garrett’s POV there is a nice amount from Lauren to get a good rounded look at both perspectives and to clearly see the mutual feelings they have for each other, that first started when younger, have been a long time in the making, supporting the present day relationship. Both are really likeable characters and completely steal your heart as a reader (although at times be warned you will want to give Garrett a wake up smack!).
Sex God is the perfect mix of humour, vulnerability, and heart in this wonderfully written sexy friends to lovers romance. There is a solid plot that evolves with a fairly fast pace that is supported with the history between the two characters. The story is mostly light hearted with just a little bit of drama towards the end to add a few twists. While this is a follow-up to a previous book, it can easily be read as a standalone as each book focuses on a new couple with a HEA that rounds off the couple’s story nicely.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this rather sexy friends to lovers romance and would definitely recommend to any contemporary romance fans!
*I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
I've always love friend-to-lovers romance. There's some beauty about the awakening of the feelings between persons who know each other's well. And what happens between Garrett and Lauren isn't just beautiful, but explosive.
When I met those guys in Sex Machine, I was curious about the chemistry flowing around them. They were friends since six grade, they had a lot of things in common, and also there was a (little) spark there. Lauren had a bad marriage and she suffered a lot. Garrett was that friend who was there to support her. And one night he was more than the friend, he was the man who turned her wild. They tried their hand, but they failed. But failure isn't a word accepted by Garrett.
With this book we're back in Marfa to witness Garrett's seduction. He's decided to give it a new try to the sex with Lauren, but he wants to take the things slowly. He had a plan. But some planes are overrated. At least that's what Lauren thought.
I enjoyed reading about these characters a lot. This book was fun, sexy and romantic. Garrett was a lovely character, and see how his old dreams became new ones was pretty amazing. He always loved Lauren, and he felt responsible for some things in their past.
I enjoyed reading about this book a lot. The story was fresh, fun, sexy and romantic. Garrett was a lovely character, and see how his old dreams became new ones was pretty amazing. He always loved Lauren, and he felt responsible for some things in their past. And he was a fixer, he has this need to mend the damages, to make sure everyone is fine, so it was a weight over his shoulders. Lauren was an amazing character too. She suffered a lot, she was the victim in aggresive relationship and she worked very hard to became in the strong woman she's now. Aknowledge her feelings about Garrett wasn't easy for her, but he makes her feel safe. They were friends after all, right?
The intensity of the feelings, the sensuality in the narration, the burning-hot sex scenes and the development of the romantic relationship between the main characters turned this book in something special. Marie Force is a great storyteller, and with this Sex God she won a special place in my bookshelf. Highly recomended for all those romance readers. You'll have a great time.
I fell in love with the town of Marfa and I was so excited when Ms. Force decided to return to it with Garrett and Lauren's story this time. It was wonderful seeing everyone and being in that world again! I absolutely loved Sex God, it was utterly excellent!
I really liked Lauren in Sex Machine and I loved her in her own book. She's sweet and kind, she's beautiful on inside just as much on the outside, and she's got a warm heart. Lauren is strong and sassy, she has her vulnerable moments and insecurities, but I loved seeing that because it made her seem more real. Lauren is just a total gem and I know you'll love her too!
I think it's highly possible that I love Garrett more than Blake - not that Blake's not great - because he is, but Garrett just stole my heart. He's smart and responsible, he's so sweet and giving, and kind and caring. He's very protective of Lauren and he never lets her get away with doubting herself. Garrett would do anything for Lauren and it was so easy to see how in love with and devoted to her he is. Garrett is just so sweet and perfect, I couldn't have stopped loving him if I tried!
Sex God was without a doubt steamy and sexy and while I loved that, I loved Lauren and Garrett's relationship even more. They've been best friends forever and it's not hard at all to see that. They are so in tune with each other and just have this lovely energy around them that was fun and entertaining to experience. I completely fell in love with Garrett and Lauren's story, it was beautiful and heartwarming and I'm going to miss them - they're the best!
Sex God can be read as a standalone, but I would definitely check out Sex Machine if you haven't already. It's told from Garrett and Lauren's POV, they get they happily-ever-after, and I sincerely hope that more of these awesome Marfa characters talk Ms. Force into writing their stories as well because you can be assured that I will be picking them up if they do and she does!
I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book, Sex God by Marie Force.
The amazingly talented Marie has outdone herself once again! I honestly don't think she could write anything bad if she tried. The first book of hers I read was Georgia On My Mind and I loved it. Then I found Maid for Love, read it and I was hooked for life! I get so excited when one of Marie's Gansett Island series or Green Mountain/Butler Vermont series comes out. If you have not read them, I highly recommend that you do! Sex God is actually book #2 about a group of close friends that grew up together and live in Marfa, Texas. Book #1 is Sex Machine. I can't wait to read it next! Luckily, they are standalones so it doesn't matter that I read #2 first. Garrett was in college and happily planning his future when his whole world shattered. His father died, leaving Garrett to take over the family business and the full time responsibility of caring for his mother and younger siblings. All of his dreams and hopes washed down the drain. No more big plans of working for a hugely successful company anywhere outside of Marfa. The one bright spot of being in Marfa was spending time with his best friend, Lauren. He had known her all his life and they had been close since elementary school. Lauren had not had an easy life so far but having Garrett as her best friend had made it all bearable. She had almost lost him though thanks to drunken foolishness 6 months prior, when they ended up in bed together and it went horribly wrong. But now, Garrett wants a do over and Lauren is terrified it will destroy their beautiful friendship. Can Garrett convince Lauren to give him a second chance to show her how perfect they can be in bed together? And if it turns out like last time will it make things too awkward to hangout anymore? And Garrett has never given up on his dreams of leaving Marfa. What does that mean for Lauren?
