Wolf Unleashed
by Paige Tyler is the fifth book in the SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team paranormal romantic suspense series. Set in contemporary times in Dallas, Texas, this novel features Alex Trevino and Lacey Barton.
The Special Weapons and Tactics team are members of the Dallas police force. They tend to be secretive, but they’re also well-liked by the citizens of Dallas and some of its politicians. This one starts with Alex’s story of how he became a werewolf in the prologue. Then it moves to current times and Alex is taking the team’s dog Tuffie for a checkup with the veterinarian. This time he meets veterinarian Lacey Barton and immediately attracted to her, but based on her past experiences and lack of trust, Lacey turns him down for a date. Can she be his soulmate if she won’t even go for coffee or dinner with him? However, when Lacey’s sister is kidnapped, she comes to Alex for help finding her.
The crisp and engaging writing style of the author quickly drew me into the story. With a unique take on how people become werewolves, this story is action-packed and filled with several twists and turns. Danger, heart-breaking moments, great world-building and excellent characterization kept this reader awake until the book was finished. I had to know what was going to happen next. The author cleverly explores the two main characters’ emotions allowing readers to easily connect with them. Themes include family, found family, greed, friendship, corruption, cover-ups, instant love, kidnapping, animal cruelty, and murder. There are a couple of steamy scenes in the middle of the book and it is a rapid romance as one expects with a fated-mates story.
Overall, this is a fast-paced and suspenseful novel that’s full of danger, secrets, action, and intrigue. If you enjoy entertaining paranormal romantic suspense novels, then I recommend you check out this series.

It would really be so much easier if, instead of just being annoyed or reluctantly entertained or only a little (okay, a lot) eyeroll-y, I could just hate these books.
The worst part is the repetition; the almost word-for-word regurgitation of facts and scenes (seriously, why does every book end with a cook-out as the boys play volleyball and the newly-secure-in-her-love heroine gets to marvel at how handsome they all are, even if she really only has eyes for "her" man; lady, if that were true, you wouldn't be eye-fucking the entire team and letting us know about it).
That being said, it's the little moments, the off-hand bickering or banter that makes me laugh, the expanding world, that is keeping me from dropping the extra star from these reads. At least.. for now. Because there's nothing really awful about them or the writing. It's just that neither are great, y'know?
Super glad my binge is on pause for now. And I'm sure the handful of people who reads these reviews are, too.

There were a lot of cutesy elements to this story that brought out the lovable characteristics of both protagonists, and I’m a dog person, so the fact that Alex & Lacey are too definitely earned them brownie points with this reader. Warm and fuzzies aside, I had hoped for more from the 5th installment in Paige Tyler’s SWAT series. These books have officially reached the rinse/repeat stage offering very little in the way of new material.
I’ve had issues with this author’s heroines in the past, and Barton was another prime example. She’s well-educated, volunteers at animal shelters during her days off, and is raising her younger sister—all very admirable—but, she makes some stupid decisions in this novel. The main one being needlessly endangering herself. Ok, she’s passionate about animals, and an injustice is being done however, she should still think about the consequences of her actions.
Alex fit in well with the rest of the members of SWAT. He’s an ex-marine, has advanced paramedic training, and has assumed primary responsibility for the team’s rescue dog. As you can see, Trevino has a lot in common with Lacey, so their relationship felt natural, and the fact that he planned a date that included petting a huge grey wolf from Canada was again, a bonus! But, his persistence was at times as endearing as it was stalker-ish.
Tyler’s mentioned in the past that her plan was to slowly develop the werewolf lore however, after 5 volumes we still don’t know a heck of a lot about that side of this world, and it’s beginning to get tiresome. A new family of betas has moved into the area to escape hunters. That was the extent of this novel’s contribution to the mythology. The plot was good, although some of the tension was caused by Barton being unnecessarily foolish.
A WOLF UNLEASHED didn’t present a strong case as to why I should continue this series.

Absolutely Amazing!!!!
Wolf Unleashed started with a powerful prologue, one that had me gasping and the storyline for the entire book was utterly fabulous!
Ms Tyler has created, not 1, but 2 fantastic series, SWAT & X-Ops and they are well worth every page that has been written. SWAT, for me, is the best series, I love each and every single book, this one is no exception, Wolf Unleashed is just as jaw dropping and gripping as it predecessors, if not even more so and I loved Alex and Lacey's story.
Now that the storylines are coming together, I can't wait to see what will happen with the looming hunters!
Highly recommended.

Ooo alpha werewolf with a soft spot for animals? Yes, please! Wolf Unleashed was an action packed adventure with a nice side of romance, one seriously lickable hero, and a whole crew backing him up.
I'm going to talk about the suspense side first. This one will not be for everyone. It's a hard topic of dog fighting and has some very ugly moments. The heroine is a vet and often deals with the aftermath and trying to help the dogs found which could be heartbreaking. That said, there's a lot of action in this one coming from a couple fronts. The dog fighting and trying to figure out how to stop them, a drug case the SWAT guys are working, girls disappearing from one of the local colleges. While it didn't all seem connected it was interesting seeing things piece together and everyone doing their jobs. Danger, action, yeah, it kept things moving at a nice pace and had my palms sweating a couple times.
Now, the romance. Alex and Lacey. What I loved about them was how much they both cared for animals. If they could help one in need they would. And that made me love both of them. Alex has a good bit of sexy alpha in him. He's dependable and so the type of man you want in your corner. And Lacey has a lot of heart but is seriously gun shy and in need of a soft touch. I did have a couple heroine issues--she had a couple seriously TSTL moments and handled Alex's secret really badly but she did at least realize her mistakes eventually and knew she'd been wrong. For some I think she'll be too much. For me I was able to deal since I was enjoying the rest of the book so much. They were good together and had some nice chemistry, a little heat and passion. Yeah, they were working for me. I love seeing people with good hearts that may be damaged just a little bit find the person to help them heal and feel complete.
All in all, a solid addition to the SWAT series. I really can't get enough of these guys and all their sexy, cheeky swagger.

Although technically a stand-alone book, these stories work best if read in sequence as characters from prior books show up and it's an easier read if you are already familiar with their story.
The SWAT team is a good group of characters for this series with strong alpha werewolves. But the down side is that the series is starting to get a repetitive feel. I'm not giving up on the series, but I'm hoping the next book has a fresher feel than this one did. This book did drop hints of werewolf hunters that may give future books some new ideas. The SWAT team characters are getting where they feel so similar that I'm having a hard differentiating who is who.
I did like the plot of this story which had multiple threads. You have DPD Narcotics Division trying to track down who the new supplier of a synthetic drug is with the SWAT team providing support. Alex, our male MC, is one of the SWAT team providing help. Then you have Lacey, a vet, who is trying to save dogs that are being used in illegal dog fights. And then Lacey's sister disappears and she needs the help of Alex and the SWAT team to find her. There are a lot of threads being pulled into this plot, but for the most part the reader can start to tie the pieces together as they read and it did all get wrapped up and explained at the end of the story. However, with so many elements and characters some of the information seemed at too summary of a level and some of the characters weren't fleshed out enough. There were a number of times I wanted scenes to be more in depth and detailed.
I did take issue with Lacey and a TSTL moment. If you have seen a pile of dead mutilated dogs as well as a mutilated human body, would you go alone to one of the bad guy's facilities to try to find prove that the bad guys are guilty? Or would you leave it to the police department who is on the case? This creates a major scene, but only because the female MC has to play the TSTL role.
And the major scene leads to Lacey discovering Alex is a werewolf. One of the elements of the book that seemed repetitive is the discovery by Lacey that Alex is a werewolf or wolf shifter. Which in turn has her thinking he is a monster. This part didn't seem fresh and new, but felt like I have read it so many times before.
And for me the elephant in the room that is never discussed (or I missed it) is she has a hard time trusting men and not telling the person you are sleeping with that you're a werewolf is a huge issue that should be shared before sleeping with the woman you think is "The One". And later she's like "oh, I'm so bad for thinking you're a monster", but where was his "you had a right to know up front"?
And I'm probably the only one that thinks along this line, but my logical brain hasn't quite been given enough world building information to understand why a non-werewolf human has a werewolf as "the one" (aside from the general assumption made in this genre). They say werewolf's have a one true mate, which makes sense if both are werewolves, but the logic doesn't necessarily follow if one is a human. First the story line doesn't present that humans have a "the one" and second would a human's "the one" be a werewolf?
Although this book contained pluses and minuses for me, I still intend to continue reading this series. I received an ARC from NetGalley.

In book five of the SWAT series by Paige Tyler, readers finally get Alex Trevino’s story. If you’re an animal lover, I have a feeling you’re going to like this one because there are plenty of sweet moments between some animals and Alex and Lacey.
Lacey is a vet who becomes instantly attracted to Alex when they first meet. Problem is, when he asks her out, she turns him down, explaining that she’s very busy. But when Lacey’s sister is kidnapped, she regrets turning the wolf shifter away because now she needs him more than ever.
I liked this book but I don’t think it’s my favorite in the series. The words seem to flow easily into one another but I don’t think the scenes would stand out in my mind as favorites. It’s hard to say because while I liked the story, it does feel a little bit safe to me. Whereas some of the other books have something exciting going on, this one seems a little toned down.
Although this is part of a larger series, I still think each book works as a standalone because there’s a resolution at the end of each book for the case they are working on. The only thing is you’ll often catch a lot of banter between the other characters which is the only real thing connecting the books together so I would give this a recommend if you like Romantic Suspense with a touch of Paranormal, especially if you love shifters.

Paige Tyler has done it again with a thoroughly enjoyable page-turner.
Alex Trevino is a member of SWAT, a paramedic, and a dog-lover. As soon as he meets the dog-loving new vet, Lacey Barton, he knows he has to go out with her. But she turns him down time and again. When he finally convinces her to go out with him, Alex is quite the romantic. :::sigh::: He's the kind of hero you fall in love with.
Lacey makes some poor choices in the book--okay, they're almost TSTL choices. But she's a likable character anyway.
The book deals with a designer drug, dog-fighting, and missing college students. It's difficult to see how they're all related, but they are in a very sinister way. There's lots of romance, action, suspense, and horror, and comic relief from Remy.
A new storyline is set up, as is the next book. Don't miss this one.

Wolf Unleashed is the next in the SWAT series and I really enjoyed it. It's got an originality about it that has pulled me in from the get go. DNA for a shifter is dormant until a traumatic experience brings the werewolf forward. Different and satisfying. Alex and Lacey have a good chemistry and enjoyed their banter. The story in the background pulled me in and this series just keeps getting better and better.
I can't wait for more!

Alex thinks very highly of himself and his abilities, "Alex did look mildly disappointed when he realized she’d only brought three of them, however. “That might get us through the night— maybe,” he murmured softly." I really enjoyed this book, I loved Alex.

What seems like surface attraction really isn’t, it seems. Alex Trevino can’t get his eyes off Lacey Barton for reasons he can’t explain and wouldn’t stop until she agrees to a date with him. There are several peripheral issues that seem unrelated however, until Lacey finds herself involved in a sprawling, complicated case of drugs, kidnapping and abused dogs that calls SWAT into action.
‘Wolf Unleashed’ isn't a bad read—far from it, in fact— but I struggled with keeping my interest in it because it dealt with very similar issues that had been rehashed over the past few books: the rather clichéd myth about finding ‘The One’ proven to be the werewolf’s soulmate and the eventual acceptance of it, the predictable fallout when female lead character discovers that the guy in question is a werewolf and the rather staid case of dogfighting with the ongoing drug war which seemed separate from Lacey’s and Alex’s developing story.
The story isn’t quite a standalone as well as it does pull many references to the plots of Paige Tyler’s previous books which I imagine could pose some problems for those who jump straight into this story without having read the first few installments. Tyler juggles a huge cast of characters—the SWAT team and their significant others do make repeated appearances—so ‘Wolf Unleashed’ can get confusing at times, especially with a winding plot with threads that only come together loosely towards the end of the book.
I wished though, that other aspects and characteristics of werewolf-ism could have been explored further, like the issue of dominance of the werewolf with dogs, why the ability to scent is stronger than others and whether Lacey’s profession could have contributed to dealing with werewolf anatomy (and not in a dirty way!). Would the werewolf secret be blown open though? I do hope Tyler will take it in this direction, rather than keep this an open secret that seems to be the case in all the books so far. That said, there is a plethora of action and behaviour that thankfully doesn’t quite veer into TSTL territory, which are good enough reasons to take this up.

Animal lovers will have their hearts tugged in this latest book. There is a lot going on through out this book and a new threat to Beta and Omega wolfs is introduced.
I love how at the start of each of these books we are shown how the each of the SWAT team came to be noticed by Gage and asked to join the SWAT team. Alex Trevino had served in the military and then came back to be a cop in Rochester, NY where he walked into a grisly home invasion that would have taken his life is not for his special abilities.
Years later he is in Dallas working for SWAT and starting to feel melancholy over his senses not being as strong as some of the other shifters. He also doesnt know how he feels about a lot of his team mates finding their “one”. Its on a routine visit to the vet for the team's mascot dog that the new vet has him feeling something he'd never thought he'd feel.
Lacey Barton doesnt date. She had crappy parents and ended up having to raise her younger sister while putting herself through college to become a Veterinarian. Now her sister is in college and she has a job she loves and has no time for men nor does she believe in relationships. Poor Alex has a very hard time getting Lacey to go out with him.
Along with the relationship aspect of the story there are a lot of side stories. A new drug called Fireball is out on the street killing many. There is also a dog fighting ring – (this is something I've never understood – what kind of sick people get enjoyment out of watching two animals tear each other apart). Along with those two things girls from the college are also going missing. Not giving any spoilers but all of those things end up having a common denominator.
In the previous book we found out that there are hunters whose “job” for years were to kill werewolves. In this book we find out that there in the US and have been tracking and killing the Beta and Omega's. This piece looks to be a thread that will be continued in future books.

Alex Trevino had served in the military and then came back to be a cop in Rochester, NY where he walked into a grisly home invasion that would have taken his life is not for his special abilities.
Years later he is in Dallas working for SWAT and starting to feel melancholy over his senses not being as strong as some of the other shifters. He also doesnt know how he feels about a lot of his team mates finding their “one”. Its on a routine visit to the vet for the team's mascot dog that the new vet has him feeling something he'd never thought he'd feel.
Lacey Barton doesnt date. She had crappy parents and ended up having to raise her younger sister while putting herself through college to become a Veterinarian. Now her sister is in college and she has a job she loves and has no time for men nor does she believe in relationships. Poor Alex has a very hard time getting Lacey to go out with him.
Along with the relationship aspect of the story there are a lot of side stories. A new drug called Fireball is out on the street killing many. There is also a dog fighting ring – (this is something I've never understood – what kind of sick people get enjoyment out of watching two animals tear each other apart). Along with those two things girls from the college are also going missing. Not giving any spoilers but all of those things end up having a common denominator.
In the previous book we found out that there are hunters whose “job” for years were to kill werewolves. In this book we find out that there in the US and have been tracking and killing the Beta and Omega's. This piece looks to be a thread that will be continued in future books.

I have to say, I love his story. I also love me some, Lacey! Girlfriend is a serious bad mamajama when she needs to be. Alex is the right fit for her, too. Hot SWAT officer and the hot little veterinarian. It's so obvious, yet they had a hard time getting to that point. Silly people.
I loved the balance of craziness, and action. The SWAT team's involvement in an illegal dog fighting ring, sided with an illegal drug dealing scheme and kidnapping ring.... talk about mind blowing craziness.

This is the 5th book in the series, but the first one I’ve read. I’m doing this backwards because I own all of the other books. I’m definitely going to go back and read these maybe during Christmas break. This book is for adults only due to the steamy scenes.

Lacey upset me with her TSTL behavior. I am horrified of a werewolf who has never been anything but kind and sweet to me. BUT I am clearly unafraid of people with guns, dog fighting connections, and kidnappers. UGH! I would have enjoyed this more if Lacey hadn't been such a putz!

A Wolf Unleashed keeps the action high and the romance steamy for the duration of the book. With dog-fighting rings, a hot new drug that’s killing people at an alarming rate and a spat of college girls going missing, there’s a lot for the Dallas SWAT team to be involved with, even if their supervisors would rather they just break doors down on command. Too bad these shifters can smell trouble coming a mile away.
I love that these books start with what got the team member go fuzzy. The last book dealt with Cooper’s brush with an IED in Afghanistan, and this one starts with the time Alex answered a call about some fireworks and had the worst night of his life. Not only did he nearly die, but he didn’t save the people he was supposed to save. These introductions really bring home the hero’s character and past struggles, but also act as attention grabbing intros that just work.
Lacey, the heroine, is a vet, and as Alex and the SWAT team work on breaking up a drug and dog-fighting ring, their paths cross. I appreciated all the little nods to Alex’s canine nature, as well as his effect on the dogs around him. I also adored how Alex tried to get closer to her, pretending his dog needs extra food, or toys, or treats, anything to get him into the vet’s clinic so he can say hi. When he does finally get her to agree to go out with him, he does adorable things to make their time special. Alex is a lot more quiet than many Alpha heroes we see in paranormal romance books, but he can definitely kick ass when needed.
There are a lot of different level of comfort the SWAT team has with their wolves. Some of the guys have always been able to shift into wolves, and others can only achieve a partial shift, with fangs and elongated nails. Alex has never been able to shift the whole way until Lacey gets taken and he needs his nose to track her. The desperation Alex feels when he’s trying to push his body to do something he’s never done before and doesn’t even know if he can do was chilling.
There is a definite feeling of sh*t about to hit the fan in Dallas soon: there are beta werewolf families moving into the city because they heard there was a pack of strong Alphas and they might protect them from the werewolf hunters. The team has started to put together a map of suspicious violent deaths in the last year, and all the signs point to the hunters not only ramping up the murders, but heading their way. The team had previously been convinced that the hunters were a problem mostly in Europe, and they aren’t sure what they’ll do if they go to war. They are police officers after all.
That brings us to the other issue the SWAT team is facing: cameras, their superiors, and the number of people who are starting to realise there is something seriously weird going on with the Dallas SWAT. When I read the first few books of the series, I thought that the greatest suspension of disbelief wasn’t the werewolves, it was the fact that they hadn’t been discovered yet. With video cameras and police investigations, it’s only a matter of time before they’re spotted. That aspect comes into play in a big way in this book, and it’s about time. They also hinted at the fact that multiple people in the police department/justice system are covering up for them without necessarily knowing what they are. Some people know there is something weird, but the good that the SWAT team are doing outweighs the strangeness. It’s getting a bit ridiculous to believe that people who are paid to notice things (medical examiners, detectives, reporters) are all secretly in on it.
There are lots of questions that need to be answered in this series, but I wasn’t left with a cliffhanger feeling. Alex and Lacey’s story is resolved, and I’ve just been left hungry for more. This series continues to grab me.

A wolf finds his "one" and she turns out to be a veterinarian, is this a match made in heaven? Alex Trevino is one of the werewolves on the SWAT team in Dallas. He watches as his brothers in arms one by one find their true mate. What seemed to be a fanciful myth is slowing turning into reality. Whilst Alex would like to find his "One", he also knows the chances of it are slim. Since he's not looking, of course he's the next one to fall.
Lacey is gun shy after her bad experiences with men. Swearing off the opposite sex is harder than she expects when Alex waltzing into her animal hospital. He does have many endearing qualities, but she's made that mistake before and not really interested in going down that path again.
Whilst this story is a paranormal romance, the romance of it almost takes a back seat. Don't get me wrong, the romance is sweet and sexy. Ms. Tyler definitely knows how to add romance into her stories. Her strength for me is still the plot and the suspense. I really enjoyed learning more about the werewolf world and how there are hunters. I liked learning about werewolf families. I want to learn more. It is almost as if the most interesting part to this world is kept hidden and barely mentioned in this series. I can just slightly perceive the threads weaving together and building through each story. I'm most fascinated by this piece. The romance is nice and I do like the characters. However the sex in these stories are just blah for me. I definitely don't spend much time on them and skim through it. Please note, this is because I tend to read a lot of erotica and much harder than sweet loving. And for me, vanilla sex just doesn’t do it for me. Yes, these are alpha males throwing their sexy man hormones around and taking their women, but it is still too tame for me.
In Wolf Unleashed, this story played like an action movie in my mind. Ms. Tyler's descriptions are vivid. Incorporating the olfactory senses also helps to heighten the sensations and pull me deeper into this story. I read this story in one sitting as it is definitely a page turner. Ms. Tyler crafts thrilling paranormal suspense with a lovely romantic touch. This werewolf series is recommended to readers who enjoy men in uniform with a little extra alpha gene.

I absolutely love this series! Every time a SWAT book comes out, I devour it immediately! Paige Tyler writes her ass off in this exciting new story!
The book was fast-paced from start to finish. I loved Alex. He’s strong, patient and when he realized Lacey was The One for him, I loved watching him romance the reluctant veterinarian. Alex is totally swoon-worthy and he has this quiet calm about him that had me totally falling for the sexy wolf.
Remy was also very prominent in the story. This Cajun-drawling, heartbreaker charmed his way quickly into my heart as well as every other female in the book…except the tough-as-nails medical examiner. Interesting story there, or maybe she has eyes for another SWAT member. I can’t wait to find out!
I really liked Lacey. She and her sister Kelsey have been on their own since they were very young. Lacey being much older. Lacey also has this incredible passion for animals—especially dogs—and volunteers a lot of her time at animal shelters and the animal cruelty unit of the police force. She’s just an absolute sweetheart—but no pushover—and thought she and Alex paired beautifully together.
And of course, we can’t have a SWAT book without a sexy, half-naked werewolves’ volleyball scene. Every time I read them I always picture that scene in Top Gun where Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer are playing volleyball shirtless. We must have a scene like this in the next book trailer!

A Wolf Unleashed is the fifth installment of SWAT series by Paige Tyler.
Alex Tervino has been attracted to Alex for a while now. He’s finally managed to secure a date with this woman when ‘shit hits the fan’. Not only is Lacey’s little sister is kidnapped, but has taken the case to finding who’s responsible regarding the illegal dogfights. The closer she gets the more dangerous the case is. Alex is the only one able to help her, but when his secret is out, he’ll have to convince Lacey that he poses no threat.
Once again, Paige Tyler has written a wonderful shifter romance story. I enjoyed Alex and Lacey’s characters as they work on a horrible case that involves animal cruelty. As much as this topic turned my stomach, I enjoyed seeing the bad guys being brought down and the way Lacey handled certain situations. In addition, I enjoyed that their relationship wasn’t instant, but rather, slow build through the case. It slowly progressed along with the storyline which made the story that more enjoyable. Also, the set-up for the sixth installment has me anxiously waiting!
If you read this series I would highly suggest that you read the series in order.

This is the first time I have read Paige Tyler. She has been on my list to head authors but because of the supernatural element I hadn't really put forth the effort to buy her books.
I really can't wait to read Paige Tyler books again. Her characters are so lovable and very cute. The author falls into the traditional Romantic Suspense\Supernatural Suspense with the female lead getting herself into trouble. I strongly dislike when the author creates a very intelligent character and she does something stupid and almost out of character for the person the author has created because it drags the reader out of the story wondering if they are reading the same book.
The relationship between Alex and Lacey felt natural and less instra love. I still don't get the whole myth of the werewolves but I will keep reading to find out more.

What an amazing story! Tyler had me wrapped up in the emotions that she develops throughout the novel while also creating suspense that lights the pages on fire. The chemistry between the main characters sizzles, leaving you breathless. The characters were loveable and strong, while also having small vulnerabilities that draw you to them. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this tale and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

Alex Trevino has his hands full. First, he has to convince the sexy vet that doesn't give him the time of day to go out with him. Then, when he finally accomplishes that and figures out she's his One, she gets it into her head, she's something else than a vet, trying to figure out who's running a dogfighting ring, and almost gets herself killed, forcing Alex to go half-wolf on her to keep her safe, she freaks and breaks it off, only to come back asking him to help her track her missing sister.
All this, while trying to find out who's behind the latest drug craze sweeping the city. Alex is just one man...With a little extra wolf thrown into the mix.
Once again, it was the suspense that saved the day. Suspense and the SWAT team with their closeness and zingers.
The suspense was intriguing and gritty with three separate investigations, keeping everyone fully occupied, only to merge (a little of an easy solution, if you ask me) into one single case. But it kept everybody on their toes, it kept me guessing, and it kept me glued to the pages.
The action scenes were intense, and the full-on wolf chase sequence was just the perfect cherry on the cake.
The cast of characters (namely the SWAT squad) was once more at their peak, both as emotional support for the hero, much needed heroes of the city, and the in-house entertainment to provide some much needed levity to the subject matter of the suspense arc.
I couldn't say the same for the heroine. She was annoying to begin with (with her hang-ups and emotional baggage), but instead of growing on me as the story progressed, she became even worse, until I couldn't stand her. I'm looking forward to what comes next, especially with the dangerous possibility of werewolf hunters converging on Dallas...And I'm wondering what he ME might know.
All this, while trying to find out who's behind the latest drug craze sweeping the city. Alex is just one man...With a little extra wolf thrown into the mix.
Once again, it was the suspense that saved the day. Suspense and the SWAT team with their closeness and zingers.
The suspense was intriguing and gritty with three separate investigations, keeping everyone fully occupied, only to merge (a little of an easy solution, if you ask me) into one single case. But it kept everybody on their toes, it kept me guessing, and it kept me glued to the pages.
The action scenes were intense, and the full-on wolf chase sequence was just the perfect cherry on the cake.
The cast of characters (namely the SWAT squad) was once more at their peak, both as emotional support for the hero, much needed heroes of the city, and the in-house entertainment to provide some much needed levity to the subject matter of the suspense arc.
I couldn't say the same for the heroine. She was annoying to begin with (with her hang-ups and emotional baggage), but instead of growing on me as the story progressed, she became even worse, until I couldn't stand her. SWAT Officer Alex Trevino is currently involved with the Dallas Police narcotics division to uncover a drug ring operation that sells a new type of drugs called ‘fireball’ that has killed people on the street. Meanwhile, Lacey Burton is a veterinarian – she is actually Alex’s dog’s vet – who is on a mission to discover who’s responsible for dogfights that send a lot of injured animals to her office.
Alex is attracted to the beautiful vet, although Lacey thinks that she is not ready for a relationship at the moment. But then Lacey’s investigation sends her down a dangerous path, and Alex cannot help his protective side after he finally recognizes her as The One.
Wolf Unleashed is book #5 from Paige Tyler’s S.W.A.T. series. I suggest that readers not immediately jump into this one without reading the previous books. There are some references mentioned that might confuse new readers.
I don’t know what happened between the months after the release of book #4 and this one, but I found myself struggling to keep my interest with Alex and Lacey’s story. First of all, neither Alex nor Lacey are as interesting or intriguing as the previous couples of this series. Especially Lacey, I think, as a heroine. She pales in comparison to MacKenzie the reporter, Khaki and Jayna, the female werewolves, or Everly, who has a complicated past related to werewolves.
Second, I thought a lot of elements in this book felt repetitive. The One mythology started to wear me down – I’m tired of these men talking about The One after five books. Lacey’s reaction towards finding Alex’s werewolf identity was probably meant to add drama, but I was already bogged down with two seemingly separated cases of the drug rings and dog-fighting problem … I ended up feeling detached to the whole book.
Look, it’s not all bad … I am sure that Paige Tyler’s fans, or fans of this series will still enjoy the parade of hunky werewolves, Alpha males and lots of actions. Unfortunately, I am now looking for more considering that this is already book #5. Things should have moved forward more significantly, in my humble opinion.
I want more exploration of the werewolves’ myth – we do have female werewolves with Khaki and Jayna as proof – or the dynamic of the Alpha/Beta/Omega. I want more than just these wolves becoming more attuned to try finding The One. The action is nice but no longer fulfilling for me. Plus, in this one, the romance is rather sub-par.
With that consideration, I am taking a break from this series for now – at least until I see if Tyler can offer anything different in future books.

I am so tired of the same exact things and reactions happening in each book. Whenever the woman finds out she freaks out and is an asshole. Or they are mad that they weren't told sooner, like you've literally known him a week and he has to tell you his biggest secret? One he knows will be hard for you to believe?! Stupid. Also why are they always afraid to tell Gage whats going on? He is very understanding of "the one" and they just get themselves into deeper trouble by not telling him.
I really like this series to start but I think I'm done because its just the same thing over and over again like the same outline and even some lines are the same. Its just not very interesting anymore.

The love story of Lacey and Alex. Lacey is a Veterinary doctor who love dog and work with the ASPCA. Alex is a cop and a werewolf. When they met it was love at first scene. When she find out the Alex is a wolf, she run from him then her sister goes missing and she go to him for help. Can he find her sister and win Lacey back? Great story.
