In the series finale, self-made billionaire and fashion designer, Gloria Dean is in crisis as her daughter Jasmine has been shot and the would be killer still walks free. Who would dare try to take out a Dean and was the bullet meant for her? There are too many suspects and Gloria doesn't know who to trust. Her feud with Jaymee continues, but that doesn't mean she's guilty of attempted murder.
The Dean Empire has always been bathed in blood and it looks like it may finally catch up to Gloria. With time running out she strives to keep Jasmine safe and ensure the future of her company. The truth will come out, but who will be left standing?
This is the third book in a series, and as a writer myself, I am always curious how others handle series. The problem is simple. If I were to write something historical, I know that the reader would know what came before (or could look it up) but in fiction, that does not apply. In this, the author does reasonably well. It is clear that a lot of bad stuff has happened in previous books, but you can accept it was bad sand the details do not matter too much. You very quickly become aware that the Dean family is filthy rich, and they are not very nice people. The story stats with Jasmine being shot, but not killed. Immediately blamed is Jaymee, an adopted sister who is seemingly offside with the family, so much so that to teach her a lesson, Gloria, the mother, frames her. Gloria only intends to give Jaymee a fright, but some rather cardboard police want a Dean in jail, so they conveniently lose any evidence that might help Jaymee. Nice family, this. Basically, this story is part of a soap (thanks, TV) except it moves at a much more frenetic pace. The characterization of the Deans is quite good, but outside them, the characters are functional. The writing pace is good, but sometimes I found the sentence structure, or paragraph structure, a little in need of an editor to make it flow better. Still, if you like the soap-like dramas, this is for you.
Dynasty: The Dark Side of Money III is the third and final book in Dynasty trilogy, written by D.E. Rogers. This book also, similar to two previous books, deals with Dean Empire and several key characters. If you are into plots, secrecy, betrayal, games and intrigue and if you liked first two books, then Dark Side of Money will only close what was excellently written novel. The novel’s trilogy deals with Dean Empire and most prominently the main character- Gloria Dean. Gloria as a character is perfectly ‘suitable’ for the job that she works and the world of glamour, fashion and everything that goes with it is a world where she feels like home because that world is her home. Things get complicated when the phrase “what goes around, comes around’’ catches up to her in its fullest meaning. My opinion is that the book is written in a very good way. The story is quite interesting, whether a reader is into novels like this or not and with pretty awesome conclusion of the trilogy. You can also feel the atmosphere and the atmosphere is something that is ‘bread and butter’ for every novel that wants to be better than average. So, even though I definitely and absolutely am not a fan of novels like these, I will give Dynasty III 4 out of 5. If you are a fan please add one more grade.
I’ve really been getting into suspense/thrillers lately and I purchased this although I haven’t read the first two. Although, the finale made it easy to follow what had happened earlier! So, I wouldn’t let that stop you from reading this one.
No spoilers from me, but just know what this was a terrific book and I love the writer’s style. I was chuckling every now and then, too. “This ain’t the OJ trial. No one cares about you.” The author hit the ground running from the very start and it just went everywhere from there. I agree with the review that referred it to a rollercoaster! He’s made it so that every character holds your attention because they’re all interesting people. (I mean, this family is intense! I wouldn’t want to know any of them in real life. Well, except Maxwell, maybe.) The plot has legit action and suspense, plus, the romance and drama, which is something I also liked about this. A little bit of everything!
The ending was satisfying, especially the last “scene”. Interesting. I think I might even read the first two because I miss these guys already!
D. E. Rogers specializes in writing about the rich and powerful families that hinge on controlling people and circumstances, even deciding if they should live or die. The Dean family is compared to the Kennedys of a different nationality, which brings its own set of prejudice attitudes towards their self-made empire. It also comes with the mysterious curse that hovers over the family, making their misfortunes suspicious.
Gloria Dean is the master mind of the family and business. With the oldest child adopted out, one son dead, one daughter estranged from her mother, this leave one daughter, Jasmine, as the only child still working the business with her mother. But the drama in their life is similar to a soap opera, with anyone’s guess as to the outcome. My favorite part of the book would be when Richard takes his daughter away because he loved her so much, even when he found out she wasn’t his real daughter.
