You can tell a lot about a person from the kinds of books they own, and the wizarding world is no different.
While that does make me wonder about those people who can read, who do read, and yet not everyone “owns” books; well, I'm currently more interested in discussing this book.
This made me realise how much effort goes into creating a realistic setup for a fantasy movie and such a huge team takes care of each and every aspect. How wondrous are they who bring the written word on paper to life!
The attention to detail that goes into setting up a scene, the scores of people working to make everything as described in the script. I mean, wow, it takes so much to bring the writer's vision to life.
The picture book is divided into two parts: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Harry Potter, and concluded with "Make Your Own Wand!"
I usually avoid buying such books; this one I won in a giveaway hosted by Books N Beyond in collaboration with Penguin India a few years ago. If not for that, I may have waited for it to be (never gonna happen) available in some library.
I have only watched the HP movies (read them all long ago) and not the fantastic beasts. But the level of detailing that goes into each and every tiny piece that we see on screen (with many of them not having been displayed even once) ... I mean, hats off to the props team for making everything look so real.
J. K. Rowling’s Wizarding World: Movie Magic Amazing Artifacts is Volume Three in a set of Harry Potter books looking at the eight movies, and Fantastic Beasts. I have already reviewed the first two – ‘Extraordinary People and Fascinating places‘ and ‘Curious Creatures‘.
This third book looks at all the props, set decor and visual effects used to create the magical world of Harry Potter.
As with the first two books, we start with Fantastic Beasts. Open the first page and you enter into a world of Newt Scamander’s Magical Case and the world beyond. From how to enter the case, to capturing the unusual animals, this book will tell you all the secrets. It will even show you around Newt’s shed and his items you will find inside.
After looking through all the Fantastic Beasts props, you then get to delve into the world of Harry Potter, and of course it couldn’t start any other way than with the ‘Hogwarts Acceptance Letter’, of which there is a copy stuck in for you to open. The letter was actually hand-signed by graphic artist Miraphora Mina, who worked on the set.
Each double page is dedicated to the artifacts of a particular person, place, society, or even just the artifact itself. Once again the book is filled with lift up flaps, papers to unfold, stickers to stick and at the back there is also instructions on how to make your own wand. Be careful though, some of the items are only slightly stuck down and could easily be pulled out, or ripped.
This collection of books have taught me so much about the films that I didn’t know. They are truly a keepsake for any Harry Potter fan.
Have you, like me, been waiting a painfully long time for your letter from Hogwarts to arrive? Fear not, there's at least one in this collection. The wait is over! And quite honestly, if it didn't look so pretty I would have crossed Harry's name off it and claimed it as my own.
This final volume in the Movie Magic collection looks at all the magical bits and bobs you've become rather familiar with during your Potter travels. From wands to Weasley trickery (and a flying car or two), this book has got it all in one convenient place for you. With just as many interactive and creative elements as the previous two volumes, this book not only adds considerably to your Potter related sticker collection (don't worry, we all have one) it might actually teach even the most die hard fan a thing or two about the real magic behind the things we really wish were magical. Because I'm sure I'm not the only one in dire need of a suitcase with a land full of beautiful creatures to look after.
A beautiful final volume in a really wonderful collection; each taking pride of place on my Potter shelf. Perfect for any fan.

Amazing Artifacts initially delves into the world of the first Fantastic Beasts film, while the second half looks at the Harry Potter series, focusing on the sets and props that were created for each of these. I personally preferred the latter half of this book more, but both sections had their moments of interest. Seeing how much detail went into creating these films was incredible, especially as some of the more intricate aspects can be so easily overlooked when watching the films themselves. There was also a bit of information about the different roles on the design and production side of the film crew, which was fascinating to learn more about.
While I would have personally preferred for this to have focused solely on the Harry Potter series, it was still a quick and entertaining read that I would recommend to fans of the films.
Rating - 3/5 ★★★

This is such a stunning book and perfect for any Harry Potter fans! This hardback book is around A4 in size, though a little wider, and is beautifully embossed on both the front and back covers with some glossy images and shiny gold text and embellishments. Inside the book is filled with glossy and colourful pages filled with some text and lots of images.
Amazing Artifacts’ is the third book in the ‘J. K. Rowling’s Wizarding World Movie Magic’ series and focuses on the objects found throughout the Harry Potter films and ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’. Beginning with a quick introduction which tells you the different roles and departments that go into making props for the movies (which is really interesting), the book then focuses on the objects from Fantastic Beasts before moving onto those found in Harry Potter. Each page contains an objects, or type of object along with snippets of text about it. There are wonderful photos of the objects as well as moments in the films when they are used as well as illustrations and sketches. I really enjoyed this book, you learn about how the objects were made or how a special effects were used to make things look a certain way, such as the way they made the Philosopher’s Stone sparkle in the film. Every page is really interesting to read and because the text is in snippet form it makes it fun and easy to read.
A lot of the pages have additional extras attached to them. There are pieces of paper or card stuck into some pages such as Harry’s Hogwart’s acceptance letter from the first movie, which you can unfold and read (you even get to know who really signed it), and a short booklet version of the beginning of ‘The Tales of Beedle the Bard’, to name just two of the many things you can find in this book! I really love books with these little extras stuck in, it makes it so much more fun and makes this book feel so much more special than one which would only have text and pictures.
There are stickers in this book for you to use wherever you want too, as well as a paper A4ish sized painting of Dumbledore stuck to the inside back cover which you can place on your own wall or not. It’s actually got a frame around it and made to look like an old painting! There’s also tips on how to make your own wand at the back of the book which is a great little extra for keen Potter fans.
Overall this is a really amazing book and great not only for fans of the films but also for people interested in how movies are made. I’d also say that although this book is aimed at kids, any age would enjoy reading this. A great book and one of an entire series I can recommend! -Thanks to Walker Books for a free copy.
The 3 volume of the wizarding world movie magic is all about the artifacts and again it was a very pleasure read. In here we get to know more about all the artifacts made to the movies from Newt magical case to Dumbledore's pensive passing of course from the wands and quidditch related artifacts for example.
I really like this type of books because it makes me realize the magic behind the scenes we get on screen and also the millions possibilities that the artists get to create and give life to Rowlings imaginations. I gave this book 4 out of 5* and i only wish it was bigger and with more and more details. It is a read for all Harry Potter lovers and an unique book to get to a collection, i really recommend it.
The third book in the Movie Magic series may just be my favourite. In it we learn about all the little things that make up the Harry Potter movies – the Amazing Artifacts.
It is shocking just how much effort goes into these movies. Whether it be the thousands upon thousands of labels printed out to make the potions lessons look realistic or the shape of the wands suited to each character, this book offers you insight into the little details that make the world that JK Rowling has created just so special.
In my opinion this book is the most interesting in the series.
JK Rowling’s Wizarding World – Movie Magic: Volume Three – Amazing Artifacts by Bonnie Burton is available now.
I felt as if the other two volumes in this trilogy were a lot better. This one kinda rehashed some of what was in the previous volumes, and it didn't have as much fun stuff (stickers, pop ups, posters, flaps to look under, etc).
J’adore !
Of all three books, I enjoyed this one the least just due to the fact that people and creatures interest me more. Still a great read and still produced amazing facts I didn’t know!!
I enjoyed reading this as it had information on all the Harry Potter films and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, it has information on the artifacts in the films and it also has some interesting behind the scenes information on all the films. It also has some removable items from the films definitely something to have in your collection if you're a fan of the Wizarding World.
Great book for movie fans wanting to read about the design and behind the scenes workings of different props. Some AMAZING pull outs to be found throughout (A wand permit application - YESSS!) Lovely concept art and illustrations as well.
