Deadly Secret by Tara Thomas is the second full length novel in the romantic suspense Sons of Broad series. There were also three prequel novellas to the series that featured one couple then the first installment moved to the first of three Benedict brothers and his significant other. Now we’ve moved onto Knox Benedict and his wife, Bea.

While the main characters in the series keep changing as it goes on the series has an underlying plot that continues on with each story so it would be best enjoyed to just start at the beginning of it all. The author is also keeping previous lead characters involved in the books so those that do start at the beginning will be updated on where they are as the story moves forward in each book in the series.

Now as far as this installment of the series I’d have to say that it had a set up that I do enjoy with the main couple having a past so while the books are very fast paced it doesn’t feel as if it’s an insta-love when they were already married and coming back together. Of course in Bea and Knox’s case it sounds a bit like they rushed into things in the past but there was still something already there when we join them which made me a bit more comfortable with their chemistry and a bit more believability.

I would warn readers that absolutely hate cliffhangers thought that Tara Thomas has certainly done that yet again. She’s doing a great job tying all the books together and keeping the action intense with each read but again when finished I felt there is just so much left and would love to move onto the next book right away but it’s unfortunately not here yet to enjoy just yet.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

This was another great addition to this series. I enjoyed it quite a lot. The mystery aspect continues to be well done, and I am DYING to know who the GENTLEMAN is! Both main characters were likable. Although Bea drove me nuts for the first 25% and later in the book, I was left scratching my head at her TSTL move in regards to Tom. But I continue to love all three brothers.

Really the only small issue I had and have had with all the books in this series so far is the POV changes can be confusing at times. We go from one person talking to the next paragraph being someone else that has nothing to do with the previous conversation. I find it a bit jarring and befuddling at times. But after two books and three novellas, I have learned to go with the flow. Therefore yours truly is giving this one a solid thumbs up.

Thank you St. Martin's Press for providing an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am really enjoying this series and I like the direction it's taking despite its predictable plot. In Deadly Secret, we get Bea Jacobs and Knox Benedict. These two were secretly married and honestly, I'm most looking forward to their story because I love their chemistry. The plot is still connected to the previous book and after an unsuccesful murder attempt on Tilly, The Gentleman moved on to Bea as his next target.

Bea is a lawyer and Brent's half-sister. In the last book, she was brutally attacked for snooping around and up to this day, she won't stop seeking the truth and justice on the missing / murdred women as well as the issues on the Benedict business. After her attacked, she and Knox's marriage went on the rocks. With a target on her back, Knox is in danger too. She wants to protect him at all cost. I admire her courage and independence but her stubborness annoyed the crap out of me. She became reckless around the last two or three chapters. Good thing Knox was patient. By the way, I really like him. He's a thoughtful and an attentive lover.

As for Jade, I got my theories right about her. I am excited for the next book and see Kipling chasing Alyssa. Hopefully, The Gentleman will reveal his real identity and confront the Benedicts.

3.5 stars

The first book in the Sons of Broad series was an okay read for me. I was glad that I enjoyed this book more than I did the previous one. The characters acted more mature, and I felt a connection between them even though this couple is already married, and how they met is told in a couple of sentences instead of a flashback. For me it wasn't necessary for me to really see how they met and because I was more interested in solving the case/mystery that continues from the previous book into this one. I am still not sure what is going on and why the Benedict family is targeted by this Gentleman.

There were a couple of times the main characters didn't do anything with information that warned them. They kind of went head-first into a dangerous situation and it was obvious what would happen next. This total disregard to the warning was unbelievable to me and could've been handled much better. If the author wanted the characters come face-to-face with the bad guys, she could've found another more logical way to do it. This is one of my book pet peeves, especially in romantic suspense books, and that it why I rated this book 3.5 stars instead of 4. However, there was a twist at the end which has me excited for the next book in the series. I can't wait to see how this series will end and get all the answers to my questions.

The villain known as the Gentleman is making his move, seeking revenge against the powerful Benedict family for his own reason, and now his sights are firmly set on Knox, the middle, saintly brother and his secret wife. Charleston is a dark and dangerous place for anyone on the shadowy villain's list.

Deadly Secret is the second book in the Sons of Broad series. It definitely needs to be read in order.

In the last book, things got dire for the youngest Benedict brother, Keaton and his longtime love Tillie, but it was no picnic for middle brother Knox who's secret wife, Bea, ended up in the crosshairs of a killer to stop her from discovering clues to a long buried secret involving Tillie's dad and the Benedict family.

As most who read my reviews are aware, I have been less than impressed with the prequels and the first book in the series. I did wish to continue because the overall suspense plot- this big buried secret has me intrigued and I also was curious about the situation of the quiet Knox being secretly married and also see Kipling, the oldest square off against Alyssa in their duel of wits.

I wouldn't say Deadly Secret was a vast improvement as far as overall enjoyment, but I did feel it was developed better. Maybe this is because it doesn't have first book in a series syndrome and could just jump right into the story and maybe its because the players are already married and so jumping into the middle of a story when I didn't get their meet up and relationship progression worked better. Again, there wasn't much character and relationship development, but it wasn't devoid of it, either.

And, argh, Bea was one of those heroines who impressed me for all the wrong reasons. She's not a kid and she's a lawyer, but she made the dumbest decisions that put her and others in danger. She spends the whole book pushing Knox away to 'protect' him whch did put him in danger scrambling to protect her, anyway. She makes decision after decision that don't make a lick of sense (to be fair Knox wasn't exactly brilliant, either, at times, though he and his brothers were better equipped to deal with the danger). I thought I was going to lose my mind when she got warned about a certain person as a threat and she just leaves the protection of others, dosen't tell anyone where she's going, and gets in the car with the one she was warned against. I didn't hate her, but I sure got tired of wrong-headedness. She and Knox were good together when they were working on stuff and working on being together.

I did learn that I was right about Jade, at least, and I've got a strong suspicion about The Gentleman now. I do plan to continue on with Kipling and Alyssa's book which I suspect will be the best one in the series the way those two spark in each other's presence.

So, it was mildly engaging, and I found it improved over book one. A few spicy romance scenes, a complex revenge plot, and it never hurts to have three attractive brothers together. Give it a try if you like.

My thanks to St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars. Deadly Secret is book 2 in the Sons of Broad series and you really need to read them in order so that you'll understand everything that is going on. The illusive Gentleman is still targeting the Benedict brothers and the women they love. This time around he is after Bea and Knox. We first met Bea briefly in the novellas that accompany this series and revolved around her brother, Brent. Then again in book 1, Darkest Night, when she was found beaten almost to death on the steps of Benedict House. Knox Benedict ran to her side, and it became obvious that there was some type of relationship happening between them.

Jade, the mysterious girl who Tilly and Keaton ran into at the homeless shelter, and then helped Keaton at the end of book 1, features prominently in this book. What exactly is her connection to the Benedict brothers? Why has she reached out to Bea and asked for her help? Will she be able to stay one step ahead of The Gentleman, and his henchman, Tom, who has been placed on security detail for Bea?

I like the twists and turns that take place in this book. I loved seeing the background story on how Bea and Know met and got together. It was great seeing Tilly and Keaton, and Alyssa and Kipling as well as Lena, the faithful housekeeper. Just like in the novellas and book 1, I was anxious to find any clue or hint as to who this man is, The Gentleman, and what exactly his plan is for this group of people.

I felt plenty frustrated with Bea, and really the whole family this go around. Even after Jade gives Bea and the family clues to certain things, and warnings about Tom, they still act like everything is hunky dory and no one is in danger. Even after notes are left, Bea's father's house is torched, lives are threatened. It just didn't ring as realistic to me that this group of people who are supposedly very intelligent, could remain so lackadaisical about everything that was going on. I almost got to a point that the only one I cared to know what was going to happen to them was Jade.

There is no cliffhanger at the end, which was good, we get a happily ever after for now, with one piece of bombshell information, but the reader is already aware of what it is so it's not something that will make you desperate to get your hands on the last book. That book will revolved around the last Benedict brother, Kipling, and Alyssa Adams, the steadfast police woman who has been on the case from day one.

I am mostly intrigued to find out Jade's backstory and how she ever got involved with The Gentleman. What does he have to do with the Benedict family, and why does he want to destroy them and their women so badly? Will we ever find out what part Tilly's father played in this whole thing? Still lots of things unanswered, so hopefully the last book, Broken Promise which releases in June will provide us those answers.

I have really been enjoying this series. I feel some things need to really be tightened up along the way, and that last book has really got to be a doozy to provide the reader all the answers to the huge list of questions stacking up. It's been a fun ride so far!

NetGalley and St. Martin's Press provided me an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

This s is book two in the Sons of Broad series.

Knox and Beas story continues and what a story it is too. I was on the edge of my seat reading this. I cannot wait to read more and find out who the Gentleman is.
It’s hard to write a review without spoiling in, especially a series. If you enjoy suspense reads then I definitely recommend you read this.

A really well written story full of suspense. The secondary characters add so much to the story. I’m looking forward to reading book three in this series.

Still on the edge of my seat throughout this whole book. And of course I have to wait till the next book to find out who The Gentleman is that has been killing people and what he has been trying to cover up.
Tara Thomas has done an amazing job switching over to the Suspense genre. She definitely keeps you on your toes and you never know what to expect next. And she has made it so difficult to figure out who the killer is.
Can’t wait for Book 3 Broken Promise to come out so I can finish this series and find out what happens next.

Continuing right after Darkest Night, Deadly Secret is not to be missed. This follow up novel is just as action packed as the first one and it is a zinger. With dark secrets, strained family ties and a villain hiding in the shadows, I devoured this book from cover to cover. Then I wanted more.

The main character in this book is Bea, half sister to Brent from the prequels. She is a lawyer with a rather unChristian like Pastor for a father. I am thankful I have never met a pastor as heinous as this one. Still, humans are flawed and religious figures are not exempt. From the beginning of this story, there is something odd going on between Knox and Bea. I figured they are secret lovers. It is more complicated than that and it worked really well as a subplot. Speaking of subplots, I liked the Jade subplot that is threaded throughout the series.

What I liked about this series is how it takes little twists and turns. Did I anticipate most of them? Yes. And I liked that they kept the story flowing and a reader thinking. I am actively engaged to figure out who the enemy is as well as how each character relates to each other. I wouldn't say everything is predictable; I would say that the story is well written to lead the reader to the expected result before it is revealed. Still, the main villain is nicely hidden and keeps me racking my brains to figure out who it is and if it is a character we have seen yet.

From a romance perspective, Bea and Knox are well matched. I am a bit disappointed with Bea in how she handled matters but I can understand her fuzzy logic. Knox is a saint as his nickname suggests. He is a sweetheart and of the brothers, I am hard pressed to pick my favourite. Each of the brothers are admirable. They are really quite lovely. Warning, reading this book may make a reader want to dive right into the next book. Kipling is the oldest brother and it appears he will be the last. He weaves in and out of each of these books. He is a bit of a curmudgeon which is his charm. His support of Bea and Knox keeps the consistent brotherly love and bonding we see through the series.

Through all the romance and family reveals, there are still killers on the loose and an evil plot to foil. It will be interesting to see how this series concludes. Will just one more book be enough? I am hoping this series rounds out to a quartet. This romantic suspense is recommended to readers who enjoy star crossed lover themes.

Well I got Bea and Knox's story and ooooooh so much more! This series has me at the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next.

I highly suggest reading the books in order because the story carries through each of the books and since this story ended with a cliffhanger I'm Jumping into the next book now.

Happy Reading!!!

Deadly Secret was an exciting read with a fast-paced plot and a romance that expanded on a relationship hinted at in the first book.

Knox Benedict, the Saint of the Benedict family, lives his life by a set of rules he's created for himself. When Bea, his secret wife, is put in danger after investigating something from Benedict Industries' past, all those rules go out the window. Bea is determined to get answers and Knox is willing to do anything to keep Bea safe. As the enemy moves increasingly closer, Knox and Bea are in a race against the clock to uncover the truth before it's too late.

Knox Benedict has always been considered the most reserved of his brothers, but he just considers himself better at keeping his private life, private. Knox has always managed to keep his cool and never acted impulsively until he met Bea whom he fell for hard and fast. Bea always had a set plan for what she wanted to do with her life, but at the heart of that plan was that she wanted to help people. Knox and Bea have an intense relationship with great chemistry and some incredibly sexy scenes. My only complaint was that the their relationship is already established and you don't get the buildup I've come to expect in romance novels.

Deadly Secret sees the return of The Gentleman and his nefarious plans for the Benedict family. The Gentleman's plans are becoming increasingly dangerous and I'm quite interested to see where his story line is headed. I really want to learn the reasoning behind his intense hatred of the Benedict family and while I have a few theories, I've yet to be able to figure out anything concrete. The author does a great job keeping you in the dark where he's concerned while still revealing enough to keep you hooked.

Overall I really enjoyed Deadly Secret despite wanting to see more of how Knox and Bea's relationship came to be. I can't wait to read the final book in this series and would definitely recommend the series for anyone looking for a romantic suspense series to check out with a great villain lurking behind the scenes.

Deadly Secret by Tara Thomas was a suspenseful book. Although I hadn't read the previous or the novellas, I didn't have many problems following the mystery in this one.

Bea and Knox are complex characters that work well together once Bea comes to her senses and fills Knox in on what happened to her. Suspense, romance and a smoothly paced plot made this book difficult to put down. Ms. Thomas' descriptive narrative made it easy for me to imagine all types of scenarios about the Gentleman and his connection to the Benedict empire.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

Deadly Secret is the second installment of the Sons of Broad Series. It picks up right where the last book left off and follows the story of Knox and Bea. Knox is a one of kind, stand-up guy. He’s followed the rules his entire life. However, Knox has a secret. A secret that he would live and die for. He would do anything to protect his secret and just how far he would go is about to be tested….Bea and Knox were never supposed to be. They were rivals and fought each other at every turn. But somewhere along the way, their tension turned into an undeniable passion. Bea knew there would never be anyone else for her. When an investigation has an unexpected turn, Bea is forced to make a decision she never thought she’d have to. Keeping her marriage a secret has never been more important….

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It started off with a bang like the novellas that I’ve read from this series and had me positively hooked. I was captivated and intrigued by Bea and Knox. I loved seeing the two of them together and could tell that their feelings for one another were genuine. Just like the previous books in this series, Deadly Secret is filled with mystery and suspense. Once again, “The Gentleman” is up to no good and will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

Deadly Secret was a terrific read from beginning to end. The characters were smart and full of intrigue. I loved the mystery, suspense and danger that surrounded the story. Add in some romance and some seriously steamy reads, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a great afternoon read.

Deadly Secrets will keep you on the edge of your seat right until the very end and just when you think everything is all squared away, you’ll be left with another cliffhanger that will have you begging to get the next book in your hands….

Second full-length story in the Sons of Broad series, Deadly Secret features Bea Jacobs and Knox Benedict. Bea is the half-sister of Brent, hero of the serial in three parts, and Knox is the second of the three Benedict brothers.
Review of the serial in French: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/lesro...
Review of the first volume, Darkest Night: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The series really needs to be read in the order and I put in my previous reviews the important elements linked to the series’ common thread. It’s pointless I repeat them here.

So I’ll talk about the next part of the suspense I found frustrating on several points. First the fact we know directly who must kidnap Bea has good and bad sides. The good: no surprise for the reader. I hate them so that’s fine with me. The bad: the progression of the action seems slower and seeing the heroes going round and round in circles is really frustrating. Especially after the minion charged with kidnapping Bea succeeds in entering the familial circle. I understand the heroes, as heroes, don’t have anything to distrust him as they don’t have the elements we as readers have, but seeing them being hardly suspicious…
And near the end of the book, the heroine has a 200% TSTL action… I wanted to murder her at this moment. Or at least I was thinking she deserved to die at the end to the bad guy. I understand we were nearing the end of the book and the suspense had to be solved but still the author could have come up with something else. All in all it’s what had me take off one star to my final rating.

The Gentleman goes on with his vendetta against the Benedict brothers and this time he goes after Bea who began opening a file that could harm him. On the other side he’s looking for a member of his organization who succeeded in fleeing and the same minion must find him. A negative point about the suspense: we know from the beginning of the book that he finds her but we don’t know why he lets her go away.
Bea will face this person and it’s the second weakness of the book: our heroine trusts this person, stating it loud and clear… all the while never listening to her warnings. We were in the extreme contradiction and that deserved the novel a lot.

On the romance side, Bea and Knox appear a lot in Darkest Night and we know they have deep feelings for each other. We learn here what it is exactly. Once more we have a couple who knows what they want but the biggest problem for them comes from the outside and the threat against our heroes leads the heroine to take some decision without telling the hero.

We see the secondary characters who are present since the beginning of the series. No new people to see, which isn’t bad because the author would spread herself too thin otherwise. Here we stay focused on the plot about this much talked-about Gentleman. When we close the book, we don’t really know what will happen next and the veil is lifted on the secondary character I was talking about in my review for Darkest Night. A false suspense as I already said.

Once more in spite of the suspense weaknesses I had an excellent time with this book I couldn’t put down till the end. Its writing is really addictive.

Overall story concept: 4.5 Of 5 Stars - Overall Rating because of massive grammatical errors: 2.95 Of 5 Stars! Review Originally Posted On: Taylor Fenner's Bookish World

I loved Darkest Night and was excited to continue the series with Deadly Secret. Each book centers around one of the Benedict brothers - Keaton, Knox, and Kipling. Deadly Secret focuses on middle brother, Knox and his (OMG) secret wife, Bea.

Bea was attacked in Darkest Night and has now pushed Knox away for his own good, but Knox isn't ready to let Bea slip through his fingers. When her attacker begins sending her threatening notes it brings them back together again as they try to unravel past secrets in the Benedict family and figure out who is targeting the family and why. But the closer they get to uncovering the truth the more danger Bea is in. Will deadly secrets spell Bea's demise? Or will Knox swoop in at just the right time?

I love the story concept of this series. The mysterious "Gentleman" hiding in the wings putting evil plots in motion, the implied threats, the romance and danger. My issue with the writing itself is a different matter. I read an eARC of Darkest Night so I assumed the grammatical errors throughout were just because it was an advanced copy and not the final book, but I picked up a finished copy of Deadly Secret and noticed significant grammatical errors throughout the book (words missing, incorrect words in places) as well as a few plot inconsistencies.

At the end of Darkest Night, Bea shows up at Keaton and Tilly's party with the threatening note but in Deadly Secret the note is sent to her later at her office. Then in one section there's a scene when Bea and Knox arrive back from D.C. and the entire family is there but then a little while later the family arrive home and didn't know Bea and Knox were back from D.C. so unless they went again and it wasn't mentioned it doesn't make any sense.

Overall, while I liked the story and want to uncover the identity of The Gentleman in Broken Promise (which the publisher has graciously provided me with an eARC of) I found this book hard to read. It really could have used another pass through an editor and proofreader. Another thing I didn't like was that the threats seemed solely on Knox and Bea in this book. It's as if since Keaton and Tilly found their "happily ever after" the Gentleman is no longer interested in them when in my mind it should seem if he was after the whole family he wouldn't stop going after all of them...

This is the second novel in the Sons of Broad series by Tara Thomas. I actually received an ARC for the third in the series and started it. Since I ended up enjoying it I tracked down the first two.
This was probably my least favorite of all three. I didn't read any of the prequel novellas so I might be missing some of the back story to these.

What I didn't like as much in this one was our heroine, Bea. I liked Knox, he wasn't my favorite brother but I liked him a lot more than Bea. The first half of the book drove me nuts.

**Spoiler Alert!**
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

She was so adamant about not letting her fear of this madman move her from her home, but this was the same guy who's keeping her from who she loves? She won't let him dictate where she sleeps at night (which would keep her alive), but she's willing to give up her husband because he said so? What kind of a woman is this?

Rant over.

She was a little too trusting of Jade in my opinion. Not to say that Jade didn't need someone in her corner, but Bea was a bit too naive to stay alive without Knox.

The suspense was good, the madman was hate-able, the mystery was there. There are some open ends, some from the first are weaved in, but new ones are formed. For me, it wasn't so bad since I had all 3 books at once. I was able to pick up book 3 when this was over so it didn't leave me hanging.

There is romance, sex scenes, some language and mature content like in the last, an adult read for sure. On to the next in the series!

Deadly Secret by Tara Thomas is Son's of Broad #2. The craziness that has befallen the Benedict family continues in book two, following Knox Benedict. While Knox is the more upstanding of the Benedict brothers, certain secrets were hinted at in book one. Right off the bat we learn that Knox is married to Bea, which isn't all that surprising given their behavior in Darkest Night but the layers of secrets continue. The threats to Bea have caused her to push Knox away but he doesn't know why and won't let things get between them.

As Bea and Know work through the secrets surrounding them, and do a really poor job of keeping apart, various other mysteries surface and the Benedict brothers are forced to reveal information that they have kept hidden.

Overall I liked Bea and Knox, but was curious as to why they made the choices they did as it didn't always seem to match with their characters. The fight that they have for each other and their passion makes up for it. This was a good addition to the series as a whole and I loved learning about Knox and Bea's story.

I enjoyed Deadly Secret by Tara Thomas and can't wait for Kipling's story coming up next.

Bea, Brent's sister is an attorney and she has tangled with the Benedict family on many occasions, not all of them pleasant. She was beaten by the psychopath that they are hunting and left on the Benedict's porch.

Knox is the epitome of rich playboy. But he and Bea are hiding a whopper of a secret...they are married. They did the whole elope to Vegas thing but kept it quite to keep her father, a domineering and bigoted Reverend.

So when from her hospital bed she tells him to stay away he is hurt and confused. Fast forward a few months and Bea had kept her side of the bargain with her abuser, she kept away from Knox to keep him safe. But events are unfolding and pushing the pair back together.

There are some great nail-biting moments. With danger closer at hand than they think and explosions and fires and sneaky visits from Jade, there is lots going on!

Can't wait to see what happens next!

This is second book about the Benedict family of Charleston. I will admit that when this book first started, I didn’t remember much about the earlier book, so it can definitely be a standalone. As I said, the first part of the book to me was confusing as I tried to get all the characters straight, and figure out where this storyline was trying to take me. About 1/3rd of the way through the book, I figured it out and from there on, this book just sailed for me. Knox, one of the Benedict brothers, and Bea, a lawyer have married in secret and no one knows they are married. I actually liked both characters and thought they felt very adult for their situation. I will admit though that my favorite character of this book is Jade and I really hope she gets her book soon. Even though the reader has a sense of the plot of this book, it held my interest and am looking forward to the next one in this series.

I’ve been a bit on the fence about this series. While I have been all in for the suspense aspect, the pacing and actual relationships/characters have not completely sold me. Well, Deadly Secret is my favorite so far and has more firmly invested in seeing how everything will ultimately play out.

This is Knox and Bea’s book which had a hidden marriage that added a different twist to the continuing suspense of who The Gentleman is. I adored Knox, definitely my favourite character in the series so far. Bea annoyed me at the beginning. She made some extremely stupid decisions at the beginning that made me want to shake her, though she grew on me as I read. There are secrets and family drama that made this a very interesting read. I also felt the pacing was better here. The more Thomas writes in this series, the more involved I’m becoming with the characters. I’m looking forward to seeing how the remaining characters find love and finding out who The Gentleman is.

This is the second novel in the Sons of Broad series and it definitely should be read in series order. However, don't expect a resolution at the end of the story because there is still another book to come in the series. There is a HFN resolution for the main couple, Bea and Knox, but until the culprit is revealed, I'm not sure that anyone associated with the Benedict family is safe. One of my only complaints of this story is that the characters ignored crucial information that has been handed to them and repeatedly put themselves in danger because they ignored the information. I'm not talking about missing clues, I mean these characters were directly told about dangers and they still ignored the warnings. But even so I am looking forward to the final story because I have an idea of who might be behind all of the killings, and I want to know if I'm right. Considering I saw the "big surprise" at the end of the story in the first few chapters, I probably am!

This is the second book in this series. I enjoyed it. Maybe not as much as the first book but still a good read. I enjoyed it enough to continue this series.

While I did like Knox and Bea; I did not connect as quickly to them as I did the other characters in the first book. Although, the vibe between Knox and Bea was nice. They may be married but Bea and Knox are learning just what it means to be a married couple including behind bedroom doors. Knox is the protector. All he wanted to do is just keep Bea safe. Bea had a bit if a independent strike but it was muted by the traumatic situation that she endure previously.

The action was good but nothing too impressive. In fact, there were times when I lost my focus. For me it was not too much about the story as it was about the characters. This book is a quick read.

Deadly Secret by Tara Thomas
Sons of Broad Book #2

I had hopes that book two would be more to my taste than the first book in this series but came away feeling, once again, that the story was not for me and that perhaps it would appeal more to a NA reader or someone who has not read as many books as I have. I found the plot in need of more substance and depth. The H/h romance left me wondering why they were together at all since they didn’t seem to have much of a backstory or connection. The villain was evil but he, too, needed more information to be shared about him. All in all I found the story simplistic, issues were dealt with too easily, times I was to be worried I wasn’t and the only thing I came away with was wanting to know more about Jade…and perhaps the villain known as The Gentleman. Since I am interested in finding out about these two people I have given the book a bit higher rating than I first thought I would.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I feel this book makes me so confused!!
do I just not like romantic suspense anymore?
I thought it was fun and intrigueing.
I feel this book like the last one isn't fully developed.
it truly would have worked better if the characters were high school students because then we could accept the immaturity and bad decisions but it doesn't fit with what happens.
it seemed cartooney
like maybe from Scooby Doo where they willingly chase after a bad guy without thinking ... hey maybe this is a bad guy!

**I received a copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley. This is a voluntary review; all opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

So far, this is my favourite of the series!

I felt like everything in this novel hit the right note. There was this great balance between the suspense, the mystery and the romance. At no point did the plot ever feel stagnant because there was always something happening. If we weren't learning more about Knox and Bea's relationship we were learning more about the overarching mystery of the series or someone's life was in danger.

Knox and Bea were the best characters for this particular story. I immediately liked them and their adorable romance. If you've read the novellas, you'll be happy to see Bea get more of the spotlight in this book because she is such a strong female lead. She's got a lot of fight and brains about her but she also has a big heart. Knox was more of a mystery but I instantly became a fan after he was introduced. He's a great compliment to Bea and he's such a sweetheart. I thought their romance was perfect for the story and it never overshadowed the overall plot.

As for the plot, I really enjoyed it. I found the suspense and tension was there from start to finish. It isn't afraid to take things to that next level so you never know who is safe or what will happen next. Again, I loved the fact that we get these tiny snipets of the mysterious Gentleman throughout. It just adds to the suspense when you know that the villain has various plans in motion before the characters do.

I did find that the big twist at the end was somewhat predictable but I will be the first to admit that the larger mystery (and how that twist fits into everything) is still unknown to me. This book did a great job leading us into the finale and I can't wait to see how this will all wrap up!

Toujours aussi bien niveau intrigue générale mais j’ai été déçue par le couple.
