In the distant future, humanity staggers against wave after wave of population decimating catastrophes, and hope fades as the extinction point draws near.
They find a time capsule carrying with it the knowledge of the past, technology that allows them to rise above their meager existence. Within a few generations, they've built walled cities to protect them from predators they'd learned to fear, bustling commerce, and telecommunications capabilities that connect people and businesses.
They've also restored the means to make war. Two great factions control East and West, each preparing to fight while hoping war never comes. Humanity wouldn't dare fight a great war so soon after nearing extinction.
But there are some who would prefer those astonishingly low population counts. And they'll unleash a weapon unlike any other in human history to achieve those ends.
Five people with varying levels of knowledge and responsibility of those plans live their last normal day, unaware that they'll be fighting for their lives against a weapon which cannot be stopped.
But somehow, they'll all need to figure out how to survive the unleashing of... the Ravagers.
I am a lifelong Ohio resident, where I live with my wife and three children. When I'm not trying to be in three places at once with my active youngsters, I'm following local professional and collegiate sports teams, or possibly unscrambling a Rubik's Cube. In lieu of sleep, I read and write fiction.
My debut novel, A QUESTION OF WILL, explores themes of technological advancement, human potential (good and bad), and the love bonding a family together. It reached the Amazon Top 100 in Science Fiction -> High Tech less than a week after publication. The sequels--PRESERVING HOPE, ASCENT OF THE ALIOMENTI, and BIRTH OF THE ALLIANCE--continue to follow Will's adventures, bringing to life the technological and Energy advances he's achieved in entirely new settings.
I am currently drafting the fifth of seven novels in the series.
If you have not read the Aliomenti series, this book set will have little to no meaning. I love the the Aliomenti series even with a lot of redundancy (could have been done with half the words). The first two books of The Ravengers had zero connection and the only reason I completed them was because I don’t quit reading something I start. The third book began connecting and creating a feeling of excitement and familiarity with me as the reader.
I was instantly drawn to all the characters but wish the series was advertised as connected to Aliomenti. Alex is a great writer but lost his edge in the first two books and almost lost a reader. I am thrilled that I muddled through the beginning and am looking forward to the next two books.
I hope Alex Continues writing and polishes the style as he matures and builds his stories. I love the concepts of the story and the creative way Alex can capture the reader. Alex develops characters the reader loves by drawing connections to human relationships and the drive to survive.
Could not finish this one... Went through about 40% of these three books and I never got interested in what's going on. Even the concept of the ravagers wasn't that interesting. Add to that the weird balance of the people who are completely clueless on one hand vs. the ones that seem to know too much but won't explain jack to the clueless ones they try to save... You get a whole lot of "I'm not buying it..."
To say I finished this book would be overstating the situation . What can I say? The concept was reasonable and the plot was workable but it just didn't come together on the page, there was no urge to read on, indeed I found I had to force myself to make the effort to turn the page and with a digital book that is saying something.
How far did I get? I'm not sure, I think I was probably on the last few pages as the story is reaching a climax but was so uncompelling I put it down months ago and have read several paper and digitial books without feeling the need to go back to it.
So near yet so far? I have abandoned the book, I feel no guilt because there are are more books than I will ever read out there so no point having this one hanging over me.
I've still been working through my list of books from my old kindle that I had bought, but hadn't read. Now I have a new one, there's a feature where I can automatically see all the books that I have and haven't read, so I don't need to keep my paper list any more. Anyway, The Ravagers by Alex Albrinck was next on my list to read, so I have read it this month. Having read previous books by him, I knew I wouldn't be able to put this down, and I wasn't wrong.
The Ravagers is set in the future and refers to our time as "The Golden Ages". It is interesting because it has advanced technology in some areas, but not in others (for example, no air travel) and people are scattered around the world in densely populated, walled citiplexes, that keep everyone safe from the beasts that roam the land. One of the ways that technology is advanced, is in the area of weaponry - Ravagers are robots that can deconstruct any material (except Diasteel!) down to its atomic constituents, before using those elements in order to create more ravagers. As such, a few can easily become a thick oily sea of ravagers ravaging the country.
It took me barely a week to read all the books in this series. I don't want to go into too much information, but there were some surprises that actually did surprise me! There were also some I could spot too, but was riveting nonetheless. This series is set in the same universe as the aliomenti series, but you certainly don't have to have read that to read this - I personally recommend you read both!
Despite complaining about the cliffhangers this series is providing, I'm pretty happy knowing it's continuing! I'm thoroughly enjoying this series. I'm normally not a fan of numerous different point of views, but it works for the series and keeps working in the third installment.
There's just so much going on, it's such an intense time for all characters that there is never a dull moment. At the end of every chapter I'm sitting there like "whaaaaaaat!!!!"
Continue reading the series, otherwise, start from the beginning!!!! It'd be too confusing to start from book two or three. Do the series justice and let the story unfold in all its brilliance.
Alex Albrinck never disappoints. It is a new earth - whatever decimated the population has caused the remaining population to live in walled cities with little travel between them. And there are the elite wealthy and power hungry still in this new world, where the technological achievements of today are thought of as myth. When those elite few become decide that there is enough they release the ultimate killing machine that will eliminate every person, building, animal and blade of grass. Of course they have their refuge and of course there are those that will do anything within their power to survive and to destroy those trying to once again eliminate the unworthy.
#1 Activate In a post apocalyptic world, when civilization had been restored to a resemblance of normal, there was always going to be the set of people who wanted power. Unfortunately, that power came at the destruction of every thing else. They had the means at hand, all they had to do is instigate it.
#2 Detonate As usual, those thinking that they are superior to the majority have designs on ruling the world. The only trouble is, the ones in control have little technology robots that are self replicating, devouring everything in their path to fuel that replication.
#3 Deviate
So, this now ties up with this author's previous series, and the fight for good over evil continues. There are some startling revelations, but as usual this author deliveres a spellbinding episode.
This set is a great follow on to the Aliomenti series. Albrinck has kept the wonder and mystery alive here with secret organizations striving for world dominance at any cost and powerful weapons that will destroy the earth if not stopped. The tie ins to the Aliomenti series are subtle and while you could still enjoy this set without reading the other, it's certainly recommended that you get the history provided there. It is well worth your time to read both series.
I absolutely loved these books. I especially like the fact that even the parts that can sometimes seem, like technical parts boring were fascinating to me. I don't have the vocabulary to express how good these books are. I didn't skip not one word. Something I tend to do when a story line gets too involved in what a character is thinking or doing. Thank you for giving me a place where I lost .myself in the story where I became each and every character in the story. Sincerely, Julia
Wonderfully written series which you cannot stop to be awed by the perfectly described characters and environments. Set much further into the future than the Aliomenti series this struggle for survival against power-mad ex human beings is so detailed that it seems you are in the middle of it. The fight against the bad guys getting harder and harder amid rising death toll. A fantastic series for post teenage readers who love fabulous heroes and heroines.
I appreciated the overall story, the idea was good and kept my interest. But there were instances where the characters were told information that seemed important (and remember-able) but didn’t come back around later in the story. This seemed to support the outcome wanted by the author rather than what the characters would have done with the knowledge. Fun read story-wise but wouldn’t purchase more books to finish the series.
When I first started reading "The Ravagers " series I found it a bit slow but I am glad I persevered. The different characters and various layers of action are extremely gripping and the technical ideas are at times terrifying and mind blowing.
These books are a gripping read and after reading books 1-3 I have now bought the last two books of the series as I cannot wait to see what happens.
I loved the "Aliomenti" series and now also this series.
Nanotech devices capable of consuming everything other than water and a super-steel are unleashed on an entire hemisphere by megalomaniacs intent on refashioning civilization as they mandate form the basis of this tale of heartless depravity. Heroes are present, however, who go about the business of saving their world with no fanfare and minimal hope of even surviving their efforts. A good, imaginative tale, well-told.
Whew...finally time to breathe. Literally druven to read thru this serues of 3 volumes...series aptlyy named Ravagers whuch is exactly how you feel on near completion...2 books to go...exhausted but curious. Might not be the best writing and the character, Deidre is stuff of soap opera (seriously the scenes with her lover are absolutely ridiculous) but the techno aspects are interesting.
I admit - I wasn't really enthused by the first book. It was an effort to be engaged by the 5 main characters (plus the "also rans").
The second and third books DID engage my interest.
Maybe the story just needed a longer than average set-up especially because it had the 5 storylines heading on different tracks and only intersecting for some of the characters.
This boxed set tells the stories of a dystopian future where populations rose and fall at the whim of the true power brokers. These beings select who will become part of the future and their robotic creations will cover the earth to accomplish it.
Alex Albrinck paints a powerful picture of a frightening future. Once I started reading I could not stop. What a well-written, sci-fi series!
What a great read!! I was so dissappointed to reach the end and will rush out to buy the next installation. The author keeps the action moving with four sets of characters facing challenges of the ravengers and the members of the Phoenix who launched this planetary cleansing. Great action, character development and dialogue.
Starts off slowly but builds into a can’t put down page turner!!
Initially the saga failed to hold my interest but toward the end of the first episode it had picked up and by the beginning of the third it was a really well thought out plot with believable characters. From the beginning to end of episode three I could not put it down.
it was a little difficult keeping up with the characters as each section started off on what was happening to each one. but the story is incredible and finding out what each person really was was exciting. now I am onto number four to find out if Sheila makes it back and what happens to the other characters and if they remember everything!n
I was glued to the laces as they rolled on up fascinated at the story I had forgotten it was the far future of the war Will Stark had taken and won lol Just at the point I was trying to figure out the story and why I was reading it all The General finally filled in the missing parts for me lol can’t wait for the next book lol
I was unsure of this at first. Not something I would normally read. SO glad I gave it a chance! I could not stop reading! Reminds me of “The 100” series on Netflix, which I loved. You will not regret reading this! Get ready for an adventure!
happy holidays everyone, I really enjoyed the heck out of this book because the author definitely went with an old end of the world type scenario but he definitely had some different plot twists. You’re really gonna enjoy this book and I would suggest you invest in buying it
Not my usual read, but I found a series that held my attention. The characters and story held on and made me continue to read to the end. Don't let this one slip by. Recommended
Great story, humans trying to eliminate humans while robots help
Great story, humans trying to eliminate humans while robots help. But there are bad and good robots. Humans and robots living for thousand years, some fighting to destroy while others fighting to maintain life.
The Ravagers episodes 1-3 is wonderful. I couldn’t put it down and as a result I haven’t slept much in the past 3 days. I heartily recommend this series for anyone who loves a great plot and unforgettable characters.
Wasn't really sure how much I would like this book due to the perspective jumps but it turned out to be perfect! The suspense kept me reading well into the middle of the night. Can't wait to read the next installments.
When I picked up this book, I wasn't too sure about it,but the more I read the more an excellent story started taking place. I will be picking up book 4 to see how it all ends
Had to stop reading. I don’t understand why. Main story about the ravagers seems to be quite enjoyable. However I failed to connect with any of the characters and the way the book tries to give back stories on all of them ends up getting boring soon.
Humanity is expressed in this alternative reality world with all the sins, flaws, beauties, and heroism our race as a whole contains. I look forward to the rest of this series
