Putting up my own virtual assistant agency, finding more new clients each month, worrying about revenue and salaries were causing me so much stress and anxiety. Not until I read this book. This helped me to appreciate everything, anywhere, anytime, anybody and in whatever situation. Truth be told, when I handled situations with mindfulness and calmness, favors are freely flowing into my life. Thank you, Ian for the helpful how-to’s from this book! 🤍
I have many a self help book, and I'm constantly diving in and out of Ted Talks and clips of Rugby Wax and such like, so I'm well aware and appreciate the processes we can follow to improve our well being. It is, as this book points out, all in the doing though, and I think this is one of its strengths.
This is not a big wordy volume, but this is also a good thing, because if you have an ADHD addled brain like mine, it makes the main points easier to digest and remember because it's concise and direct but friendly at the same time.
There are no woo-woo terms, religious or vague references to spiritualism either, I just find these concepts impossible to grasp. To me these things are something out there in the ether that I just can't understand.
I especially appreciated the chapter on when things go totally wrong, when life send you curve ball after curve ball and the importance of maintaining your practice in these demanding conditions. That is life.
This book serves as a realistic, worthy introduction or reminder to those who have fallen off the wagon of the importance and benefits of Mindfulness and Meditation and I would have no hesitation in promoting this to someone who wants to find out more, or get back on the stool and regain their centre.
The presentation is fantastic but unwanted bold, italics, spoilers made it irritating.
"Hard times will almost certainly knock you off your seat, again and again, and meditation will not take away your pain. But it's important to keep regaining your seat anyway. And it's important to keep up your practice. No, mindfulness won't fix everything. But it will bring you in touch with your center, your innate wisdom."
No fluff, no false promises, no more "how to" .... This a good book about mind and its management. I agree with author's final thoughts "In the end, it all depends on you. You alone have to work with yourself and with your mind. Working with yourself is the only way."
Scientific research conducted by many American and European universities prove that the “common” intelligence responses account for less than 20% of our life achievements and successes, while the other over 80% depends on emotional intelligence. To put it roughly: either you are emotionally intelligent, or you’re doomed to mediocrity, at best.
"Meditation is better than Medication." - from my book "Mindset And Passion - The Psychology Of Success".
Reading this book turned my life around in my prayer time with God like never before. You see; I'm in the early stages of learning mindfulness, and I can say it really works. My prayer life is great, but you know deep inside there's so much more in just meditation alone. This book gave me the answers I needed to press in deeper when I prayed and meditated with mindfulness. There's no formula or gadget to this, all you need to have is an open heart for the Spirit of God to use for His Kingdom here on earth. Reading this book I got to see and understand that meditation and mindfulness works with each other with the goal in mind that meditation is to bring the body and mind together so they can work as a single unit. I like the definition of mindfulness, which is “paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, nonjudgmental." On the other hand, you can say, mindfulness belongs to those who are focused and steady kind of attention. Practicing mindfulness and meditation for me on the positive side - my whole life changed around like: Emotional stability - Regulating my state of mind (before mindfulness - all I can say is OMG!) -but now, I live in peace - no more stress. I'm in a happy place. Physical stability - Exercise regularly everyday - I've lost over 42 pounds and still losing weight because of better eating habits. You get the picture; all of this is happening because of this book. I recommend this book to those who are at the beginning stages of mindfulness, as well as, meditation. It is written to those who can handle the truth about themselves and want to connect with their inner self to live by that authentic vision inside them. Thank you Ian Tuhovsky for putting it in bite size, so I can understand the basic principle of mindfulness. NEED I Say More!
Meditation can change your life. This book is about how you can consciously change it along the way. It's a Western view of meditation that sidesteps Buddhism for the most part, but that's OK. If you are a!ready into Buddhism it will help hammer home the basics of mindfulness. Mindfulness is about doing and not reading, but if you are going to read anyway it might as well be about something meaningful.
This book of perfect whether you are starting your journey in meditation or if you are already an experienced one. This book is a pleasant quick read, simple as no jargon is used and straight to the point. I wish I had discovered this book when I first started to meditate but it is still a useful tool for those who have been meditating for a while.
Técnicas úteis para termos sucesso. Gostei principlamente do capítulo sobre meditação.... Especialmente por ter este ano decidido que me vou dedicar a essa arte. E este livto ensina uma boa prática de meditar.
Mindfulness: the most effective techniques: connect with you and your self to reach your goals easily and peacefully by Ian Tuhovsky was a great read. This was a great read about mindfulness and how it can lead to a good life. This book helps and getting to know yourself.
I read this in two sittings. It was easy to read, informative, and gave me knowledge, insite, and inspiration to work on my mindfulness & meditation practice, as well as on my greater self. Well done!
Breathing takes on a while new meaning in this wonderful book about mindfulness and meditation. I waited to review until I practiced MINDFULNESS. I now have a whole new perspective about life and how to live it with peace of mind and joyfulness. 🙏
Wasn’t really sure what I was expecting from this book but I did enjoy it for what it was. It was a good introduction into mindfulness and did peek my interest to look further into intentional mindfulness.
Tiene buenos tips para empezar en la meditación e ideas para estar más presentes cada día. Y es bien cortito y fácil de leer. No estuvo mal. Igual le sobran unas páginas ya que el último 20% del libro es introduciendo otros libros del autor xD
This is a great book on mindfulness. It is short, concise and to the point. Enjoyed reading this book. Look forward to practicing some of the techniques listed.
The main idea of this book is discussing Mindfulness & Success and how they relate together.
The author shares the idea in a short and simple manner.
The book is started with an introduction where the author states his belief that the difference between successful and unsuccessful people at the end is in the Qualities of Mind. In order to change your life and find success, you need to work with your mind, you need to get to know it and make friends with it. The mind as a reservoir of thoughts, feelings, and intentions is powered by emotional energy. This emotional energy could either be caught up pointlessly (with bad habits and hangups) or could be harnessed (pursuing goals and propelling towards success). The author lists 5 qualities of mind as characteristics of successful people: 1- Embracing change 2- Taking charge of destiny 3- Curiosity 4- Appreciate Interdependence 5- Courageous Spirit
This is the main foundation of the book.
He elaborates on this idea in the 4 chapters of the book . In chapter 1, he defines Mindfulness and its benefits. He introduces Meditation as the centerpiece of the practice of Mindfulness. In chapter 2, he discusses how Mindfulness could contribute to the 5 Qualities of Mind he mentioned as factors to Success. In chapter 3, he gives tips and techniques to apply and consider in order to utilize Mindfulness in an authentic and useful manner. Chapter 4 is all about what to do when "Everything Goes Wrong" other than the usual negative emotions. This chapter was probably the deepest, where the author along with his advice of what to do, did share and state some life realities and what to expect of Mindfulness in this regards putting things into perspective.
Meaningful, useful, easy to read and easy to practice
Thanks Ian for writing such meaningful and useful book. This book is easy to read, easy to practice and everything you doubt on mindfulness and meditation can be found here, also almost the problems you meet on practising are explained very details in this book. Anyway, I have a feeling that author are trying to link the concept "mindfulness" to the "success life" forcely. And by the end, author run rushly for it. It'd better to link to the concept of "happy life". I think the book will be more variety and lively. When we are happy, we are successful. Isn't it right? Certainly, "mindfulness" is always a big argumental title and to each by each, he/she will have different understanding but in this book you can find the most basic definition and the first fundamental steps to practice a mindful life. High recommend you to read.
Extremely clear explanation about what mindfulness is and honestly explains it is not some miracle cure for all ills. He explains how mindfulness can be practised, how it isn't an instant fix and needs to be practised in order to grow in the ability to do it effectively. I appreciated the chapters on dealing with troubled periods in life and found the outline of self soothing particularly helpful. Not a lengthy book that rambles on .Clear and concise. Definitely worth a read if you want to look into what mindfulness is and how it can be achieved.
This book was a helpful starting point for what meditation and mindfulness is and how to practice it regularly. Although it sound easy to me mindful I think it is easy to get caught up in our thoughts and feel trapped in the net we make with them. It was helpful to know how to first use mindfulness every day and in ordinary situations, then that translated more to calming and quieting your mind. I also really appreciated how the book encouraged a non-judgmental approach to your emotions and encouraged use to simply look at our emotions and accept them as they are so that we can allow them to settle on their own.

I read this book later after completed Communication Skills Training of Ian Tuhovsky so some content is not new but broader.
Meditation is the key. I will recommend this book for beginner, and if you purchase Communication Skills Practices of the author, a little thing you discover or learn this book. Maybe I wrong.
I found this book a helpful first glimpse at the ideas behind mindfulness and how to begin better practicing it in my life, but I can't deny I wish this book was longer or had more information in it. It was an okay introduction, but the short length leaves me unable to rate it much higher than three stars. I do think the information was presented in a good way overall, though.
What I liked the most was the no BS language the author used. I'm practicing meditation and mindfulness for 2 years now and it is a long way, and the author shows that. It's a path to your self discovery and it's to be done everyday. I liked the straight talk the author gave.
I was very impressed of the way this book was written, I especially enjoyed chapter 4 and plan to read it every time I am in a rough spot, I will let you know how it works for me. Thank you for writing this, we need more good people like you that has the capacity to explain it not only to our mind but heart and soul.🤗
It explained how you can tend to you and inner self and cultivate a better new height of awareness. How you can actually work with both positive and negative emotions without ignoring or repressing yourself and you can be more tolerable in the cruel and unfair world without being strongly attached.
I recommend this book as an introduction to mindfulness and meditation. It has a great explanation of what mindfulness is, and practical advice for developing your own mindfulness practice. It's not over complicated, religious, overly spiritual or "woo" - just practical and informative!
I highly recommend this book as an introduction to mindfulness and meditation. It explains what mindfulness is in a simple, yet informative manner - and then shares easy-to follow instructions for starting and maintaining a mindfulness practice. It is not overly spiritual or "woo", nor is it too dry and academic. Perfect for understanding the basics and getting started in a more mindful life.
What a well written easy to understand book. This has helped me on my road to learning a new skill to clear my mind of the noise and find peace and calm in a busy life.
Once in a while you get a free gem in Amazon. This book is one of them. It is good resource on mindfulness and its techniques. Definitely worth reading.
