Tara Daniels is a reporter about to be laid off. Her final assignment, and last hope for continued employment, is locating Eli Murphy, former editor and co-founder of the publication she works for and a successful author. Eli’s “disappeared” and become a recluse, but no one knows why.

I’m sort of a sucker for the premise where two people are stranded together, probably because it tends to leave little room for OW/OM drama, which this installment thankfully has none of, so I enjoyed the set up here.

Told via Tara and Eli’s dual first person POV, Eli’s chapters sport a little extra authenticity….edge…freshness that perhaps comes from a male author’s writing perspective writing a man. Eli describes things in a decidedly male way and he, at times, responds minimally but with just enough to come across cool and mysteriously guarded.

Of course, both Eli and Tara are keeping secrets from each other. Eli for very valid reasons; Tara, well it’s clear from the start she’s digging herself into a hole with lots of complications. I’m not sure at times that she’s not a bit naïve and headstrong or at the very least she has really lousy instincts for a reporter.

This is the first book in what appears to be a two-part romantic suspense series, the next Unraveling Eli, releasing later in May. So be aware it’s not a complete story and ends in a cliffhanger.

The suspense angle is developed well; I’m definitely looking forward to more details on how Eli ended up in his situation. The romance veers more on the instalust side. While the two do get to know each other, their interest in each other is primarily sex (well aside from Tara’s assignment). A lot of this perhaps stems from both characters admittance that they haven’t had sex in a while. I’m hoping to see the forming of some stronger attachments in the next installment to seal the deal on the romance aspect.

Not to be dismissed though, their sexual encounters are HOT!

“In and out…deep in, and shallow out. She whines when I urge her fingers fully out, lifting her hand so I can taste her.”

*fans self* Now I also must admit I was slightly distracted by two things.

One, the duo doesn’t use condoms when they are together, and they’ve only just met hours before! I did appreciate the disclosure that Tara is the only girl to grace his hideout sheets, and while guessing by the math, Eli’s been celibate almost two years, he used to indulge in a lot of one night stands. Specifically it was the “for the whole first year I lived here, I went looking for sex every few nights, and it was never hard to find,” comment that was hard to brush aside. TMI Eli!

Two, how the hell did the food not burn?! For real, I kept expecting the smoke alarm to go off somewhere between an in or out thrust. This was suspense that I doubt was intended. These two can seriously pack a lot of masturbation, oral sex, and intercourse into one half hour because that’s all the longer it is till dinner is ready when they pass the time with a variety of steamy indulgences. Call me floored when she raved about the meal because I expected that deer meat to be as crispy as the bacon it was wrapped in.

Anyways, this is an engaging tale that kept me interested from start to finish. It moves at a steady pace and is a promising start both for this series and for a debut author. I look forward to part two. (Oh and hopefully an appearance by Herman.)

***ARC Provided by the Author and Between the Sheets ***

There are things I liked about this book, so I am going to start there, however they were not enough at the end for me to be able to give this a positive rating.

I thought the writing was strong, well edited and with a narrative that was tightly constructed. The plot actually flowed rather quickly. I was concerned that there was going to be a lot of time spent looking for Eli, and not a lot of time with them together, which is not the formula for an erotic romance. But, the author got Eli and Tara into the same place fairly quickly, so that worry was settled.

Unfortunately, while I was able to suspend disbelief on some of the situations, such as how easily she was able to find Eli when no one else seemed to be able to (I ignored this, as it is erotic, the couple needs to be in the same room quickly, so you have to make it happen) and thugs in Ubers...I was not able to get past the logic and thought process of Eli in one particular area.

Just the one...but unfortunately, when you are not able to totally buy in to the start of the romantic relationship, there isn't a lot of room to go up from that.

Eli's thought process. Well. It went something like this..."I think she might have been sent by the people I am hiding from (I will not spoil why he is hiding or who he is hiding from) but, I really want to fuck her...so I am going to ignore this. And, since she can't do what she might have been sent to do to me while we are naked, it is all good. And, while I am at it, I am not going to ask her if she was sent by them, because 1. She could lie and 2. If I ask, she is honest, and says yes, well, then I am not going to be able to fuck her. So, I won't ask until later. Cool."

I was not able to get past this.

And, this is a shame, as the writing was strong, there was a lot of potential for the story, and up until that point, I was willing to go with the whole idea of it being an erotic romance, so some disbelief needs to be suspended because that is often required of the genre.

In this case, I got the feeling that the author decided to go big with the reason Eli needed to go into hiding, therefore leading to him needing to be found, and by doing such, put himself into a position where almost any resolution that got them in bed quickly (a requirement in erotic, a must in an erotic novella) was just going to have to work even if it stretched logic a bit. And, I get that. I really, really, do. I just wasn't able to get past it.

Writing is highly subjective, as are reviews, and I am sure this is just my opinion and that it is one that others are not going to share. That said, I am planning to read the conclusion of the book, as while this one did not work for me, I do want to see how it is going to end, and where it is going to go from here.

It am not able to recommend this book, but I reserve high hopes for the next one.

Super quick and easy read. Just the start of what could be a great story. I didn't realize it was a cliffhanger. I knew it was a short novella but didn't realize it would leave you hanging. I so want to know what happens next. I'm super impatient with my books and don't like waiting for the next book to be published.
Eli has moved off the grid and Tara is a reporter looking for her next story. So she searches him out. Realizes there's lots of chemistry between them and acts on it. Eli doesn't know that Tara is looking to write a story on him. Just thinks she a lost hiker caught in a snowstorm.
But Tara unknowingly put herself and Eli into major danger. And that is where it left off.
Can't wait for the complete story to be released.
Thanks NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

Great beginning novella to what I assume will be a series or full book.

Tara needs to save her job and her one way to do that is to find Eli Murphy. He's the founder of the magazine where Tara works and has fallen off the face of the Earth. It's a mystery. But with determination, Tara finds him, but she's somewhat dishonest about her intentions and herself.

And the reasons for Eli hiding is something no one knows.....I really liked Eli! But when Tara's lies catch up with her, Eli kicks her to the curb......slight cliffhanger here!

I received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley for an honest review.

Jake Irons is a new-to-me author and I'm so glad I stumbled upon his debut novella. The cover and blurb drew me in so I was eager to get my hands on the story!

The book starts off with a determined reporter searching for the secretive man that owns the newspaper where she works. If she can't get to him though, she won't have a job much longer. The race-against-the-clock deadline is exciting and kept me reading to gather answers.

Tara's desperation to find Eli is palpable and I felt her driving need to discover his hidden location. The story stacks up as more clues are dropped and I was entertained by the suspenseful theme. I easily became committed to this mysterious journey that suddenly becomes sexy and romantic.

This author does a great job blending the drama with the steam! I was super into it page after page. You get a nice variety of elements throughout and I believe this tale will appeal to a wide audience. Definitely give Finding Eli a chance and get ready for the second installment coming soon!

Finding Eli was literally "hot". I received an eArc in exchange for an honest review. I have to admit I am quite curious to know if the author is male or female because part of the fun with this one was guessing. I even had to double back and see if there were any hints. I did not want to assume male because sometimes females can have nicknames like Jessie for Jessica so Jake could be short for some female name also though if it is a male it is my first experience with sexual situations written this well, thoroughly.

Tara is about to be let go from her job at an online news site but she has an idea. She can take the clues her work buddy has provided to find Eli, the owner of the news site that wrote a wicked tell all book then disappeared. If Tara can find him and get a story that tells where he has been since he disappeared and hopefully why he disappeared it might save her job. Tara is desperate and uses the last of her funds to give it a shot. What she finds is not what she expects. Eli is as good looking as he appears in pictures but, she didn't expect the instant sexual awareness she felt when she met him, even after the way they met.

Both characters are very likable and it is always great when a reader can get a plot with their sexual scenes. I will admit to listening to this on my Kindle on the 1 hour commute home and looking around as if people could hear it and imaging that my face was some sort of crazy pink. Wow! It did not take over the book and sexual tension was appropriate in places so the reader could still see the mystery/bit of thriller that was developing. My only problem was not knowing what the heck happens. I have to wait for the next book. Review can also be seen at LadyTechie's Book Musings ladytechiesbookmusings.blogspot.com .

Title: Finding Eli
Author: Jake Irons
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: 4/5

So in this we meet Tara who's a reporter, in order to keep her job she decides she's going to find Eli the co-founder of the publication she works for he's been missing for sometime. When she finds him it's in less than ideal conditions but that doesn't stop things getting hot and heavy rather quickly.

This was a quick, fun, fast read with some lies and deceit, hot steamy sex scenes and it was shrouded in mystery and suspense. It's a cliffhanger but WOW what a cliffhanger it is fortunately I'm lucky enough to be able to dive right into the next book.

A brilliant debut novel from an up-and-coming new author.

**2.5-3 stars**

I got my attention on this author when a friend of mine started talking about him. We became FB friends and he didn't seem like too much of a tool, so I paid attention here and there. Yes, I was biased, because my luck with male authors in the Indie community is well... bad. #ThunderCuntsUnite

Anyway, I grabbed this book when it released purely out of curiosity and with zero expectations of it being any good. I quite honestly was ready to DNF quite quickly.

But ya'll, this dude can actually write.

There's no Table of Contents in the book, authors note, or dedication and the editing is a bit terrible, TBH... so I am wondering how "serious" this supposed lawyer is with his writing, but regardless of all of that, I quite enjoyed the storyline. Also, I want to add that I think this dude should have done his research before adding in a 4-wheeler scene. Like, this redneck knows you've never driven one, son. ;)

It's definitely novella length and this dude writes a fabulous female POV. I preferred her voice more than the male POV, actually.

The storyline is about an investigative journalist who seeks to find her story and, obviously, finds him. There is instant lust (but no insta-love, thank fuck) and I actually liked their chemistry.

And there's masturbation! *jazz hands* *throws confetti* Why isn't there more of this in books?

The sex was a bit over-done and not that great, but it was hot overall.

I really liked the added danger to the plot, the murderous bad guys that are out to get them and the ending cliffy will probably make my nosey ass read the next book in the series.

Let's just cross our fingers this author doesn't become a total arse-wipe like the rest of them so I can actually keep reading him.

I was immediately intrigued by Finding Eli's blurb. It was a really interesting premise that captured my imagination and had me eager to dive in.

I absolutely enjoyed this novella. Tara and Eli were fun, quirky and interesting characters that had a great sexual chemistry. The story was fast paced and flowed well, maintaining my interest the whole way through. And that ending! Ugh!

A very solid debut from this author and I can't wait to read the conclusion.

Jake Iron's book Finding Eli is a phenomenal read. It's fast paced, funny, and hot as hell. I can not wait to see what is in store for Eli and Tara in the second book. It's been a while since I have screamed at my Kindle, but that is just what I did when I completed the last page. Well done, Jake!! I wish you much success with this book and future releases.

Jake Irons being a new author has done an amazing job and has written a story that keeps you wanting more.
His characters have secrets and you want to know what they are. Tara is perusing a lead to find Eli to hopefully help save her job in NY. Eli is hiding to save his life. Both Tara and Eli form a connection with each other until he finds out her truth then all hell breaks loose.
When I got to the last page I wanted more and I think you will too.
Pick this story up and show Jake some new author love you won't be disappointed.

I need to learn some dinosaur jokes, because the only one I can think of is the Doyouthinkhesaurus one and whilst I remember the punch line, I don't remember the actual joke.

I was a bit shocked and stunned about how much I loved this book. But I did love it. It made me full on chuckle.

True there is a couple of convenient coincidences which normally get my goat but even they didn't stop me really liking Eli and Tara.

I went in totally blind, hadn't read what the book was about just noticed that Jake Irons appeared out of no where. I can't help thinking this is an author who is already established writing under a pseudonym. If that's the case, I'm fine with that, I just want to be entertained by a good story.

The build up of sexual tension, the plot reveals, Herman the mountain lion, donuts, roaring fires and bonding with Eli made this a great read for me. As I approached 80% I guessed there had to be a sequel because there wasn't enough time left in the book to get to the denouement. Not long to wait for the next instalment and I am most definitely going to be reading it.

How can you tell if there's a dinosaur in bed with you?

Finding Eli is a great first book by newcomer Jake Irons. When newzine reporter Tara learns her job may be on the chopping block, she wracks her brain trying to find a way to stay employed. When the idea to located Eli, the founder of the company that employs her, pops up she takes charge of it and follows break crumbs from New York to Colorado. After locating the elusive Eli, Tara is able to charm her way into his secluded mountain home. The little white lies roll of her tongue even as her conscience screams to tell him who she really is and why she sought him out.

Eli is lonely and drops his guard when he sees a freezing woman walking along the road in the snow. After she falls and injures herself, he takes her to his private sanctuary that no one knows about, to tend to her wounds. He's wary but finds himself opening up to the woman in his home who tells him her name is Chelsea. The sexual chemistry between Eli and Tara is off the charts and explosive between the pages of this hot little novella.

After a discovery outs Tara's real intentions, however, Eli boots her out, except she may have already done some damage that threatens both of their lives.

Finding Eli is a spectacular novella. The storyline is intriguing and kept me interested throughout. Even though the entire book centers around Tara lying to Eli, I really enjoyed her character. She has a moral tug-of-war taking place within her mind, bringing realism to her character. Tara is written as a conflicted woman instead of slimy member of the paparazzi. Eli has his reasons for leaving New York and going of the grid. His character is kind and caring and his dynamics with Tara are off the chart - and not just sexually. Both characters are well developed and the world building is great. The story is fast-paced and If you don't mind hot sex in your reading material, I highly suggest Finding Eli for your next read.

Warning: this book ends on a huge cliffhanger.

3.5*

Finding Eli is a quick, sexy, suspenseful read that's going to leave you hanging! But luckily the second book is scheduled to be released today, fingers crossed, so hopefully we'll get resolution to the mystery. I'm not sure if this is going to be a serial, or just 2 parts, as Jake Irons is a very new to me author, and I didn't really know about this book until release day.
I really enjoyed Tara's character- she's feisty and a little quirky, and actually quite ballsy. Eli is still a bit of a puzzle. He almost seems too good to be true. Even when we're in his pov he hasn't given up too much info, it's like he's keeping secrets from us or something! I enjoyed the interaction and banter between the two, and while it was definitely a case of insta-lust they seemed to have a real connection, even though Tara is hiding who she really is. I wish she had come clean with Eli, but then that would have driven the story in a whole other direction.
The mystery behind Eli's disapperance from society has me intrigued- I'm anxious to find out why he's holed himself up in the mountains...what caused him to go into hiding??? I need some answers!

Taking a chance on an unknown author is never an easy task, but I've been lucky finding ones that I really enjoy, and now I can add Jake Irons to the list.

I'm so intrigued with this story!

*DREADED CLIFFHANGER DISCLAIMER* This is PART ONE of a two-part story and will leave you wondering what happens next. If cliffhangers aren't for you, wait until part two comes out and then get both.

I'm so curious about Eli. He's sexy, dirty, charming, funny - all the things you want in a book boyfriend, but he also has that element of intrigue and mystery that makes him that much better.

Not gonna lie, I'm not a fan of Tara....yet. I'm hoping she will be able to redeem herself in part two. She has potential.

If you're looking for a new author to try out, I can definitely recommend this one.

Overall I enjoyed this book. Sexy romance & mystery in one book- what's not to like. I thought the writer did a really good job of creating interesting characters & the story itself was intriguing.

My issue was that halfway through the book Eli started calling Tara by her real name although she had given a false one. So a little more editing/proof reading needs to be done.

I will be reading the rest of the story because I can't stand cliffhangers- gotta know what happens.

I think Jake Irons will be an interesting author to watch for sure. Great job on his debut novel.

Finding Eli is the debut novel from Jake Irons and it takes you on a ride! We first meet Tara who is desperate to save her job. She hasn’t had an easy life and just wants to find success in the cutthroat field of journalism and in the beginning feels as though a few white lies won't matter (really, girl, what are you thinking???). Then we meet Eli who is desperate to save his life. They’re both good people who’ve been living in their own worlds for a while so when they meet, the sparks fly! Eli is awesome in bed (read: hot sex!) AND he can cook! Then we get introduced to Herman – no hints but I'm hoping he'll be the ‘good guy’ in the next book. The book ends in a cliffhanger and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for Unraveling Eli!!!

Tara needs to keep her job as a reporter..That’s why she decided that finding Eli, co-founder of the publication she works for, is essential to that end!
But Eli is so much more than she thought he would be..and been stranded with him is oh so tempting..but she needs to be strong and write the article about him, right?!
There is a tiny problem tho ;) is she who she says she is? why is he living in the middle of nowhere?
I loved the idea and the attraction between them..and I am very intrigued with the way the story ended..can't wait to read more!!!!

I was impressed with Jake Irons' book Finding Eli. Tara is a reporter on a mission to find Eli. When she does find him, it's not under the most ideal circumstance, but things do get hot and heavy in a hurry. Still, there's room for the story to develop a little, and we do find out why Eli has disappeared. This was a good quick, hot read, and it ends in a cliffhanger, and now I really need to find out what happens next! I loved the witty banter between Eli and Chelsea/Tara, and I really enjoyed this first installment. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

A Steamy Read....

For a debut story this clicks along very rapidly.
The storyline is creative and the characters are an excellent match for each other.
One thing that turned me off a little was how fast it moved along and how quickly the two main characters had sex with one another. Believe me, I'm not a prude by a long shot, but their initial sex scene was a little too early into how they just met. It is steamy though.

However; the story is creative in how Tara, a writer at a well known Newzine is threatened with losing her job unless she scoops a story that no one has been able to accomplish.
That story involves finding Eli Murphy, the actual founder of the Newzine Tara works for. He's been AWOL for three years!

Once she finds him, well; she knows exactly what she wants to do with him and it has nothing to do with her important story. The two are sexually drawn to one another and they truly find things in common.
But, can Tara let on that she's found him to save her job? Can Eli trust to let someone into his life after three years with a secret that could threaten both their lives?
We won't know until book two is released. I'll be picking it up because the ending did leave me wanting more from this Author and these two characters.
I look forward to more from this Author as he continues grows within the industry. XOXO

This is my first book by this author so I had no idea what I was letting myself in for. After reading the blurb though I knew I had to give it a go as it seemed to have all the elements for a great story!
I knew it was a novella and that it's part one of a series so it's going to be fairly short but I was hooked pretty soon in. What I wasn't prepared for though was the ending. I don't want to give anything away but all I will say is there I was enjoying all the hot stuff (and the storyline of course) fully engrossed in this book when bam!
Part two asap would be gratefully appreciated Mr Irons. I need to know!! I suck at waiting!
Definitely can't wait to see how this turns out. Bloody loved it!!

I'm always on the look out for a good male author in the erotica/romance genre because I find it interesting to read about everything from the "other" side. Scrolling through FB, I found this author and the blurb sounded good so I gave it a whirl.

Finding Eli is about NY journalist, Tara who is on the hunt for her paper's former owner, Eli. Eli has dropped off the map for unknown reasons and Tara hopes that finding him with get her a scoop and save her job.

For a first time author this is a decent read. The writing is good, solid. The characters are developed well and have chemistry. There is insta-lust that is acted on pretty quickly and with a generous amount of heat. Eli's internal dialogue is quite funny as you can tell he has been up on the mountain and secluded for way too long. Tara could have been slightly more mature but is a good character nonetheless.

The plotline does have some holes that you will have to overlook (i.e. how Tara is able to find him on pieced together info from a co-worker Eli stalker, why the friend didn't use the info, why the guys looking for Eli missed all that info) though you can chalk that up to how else would the two meet? The story behind why Eli is off the grid is a bit from left field but does set up what could be interesting action for the next installment of the story.

Overall, a solid first book from a new author and I look forward to seeing the next book.

A heads-up people, this may not be a very long read but dang it leaves an impression!
This is the first I have ever read from this author and I was delighted that I had book two already on my kindle to read once I finish because if I had to wait I think I may have been tearing my hair out.
The story is about Eli and Tara, he is happy in the ether, out of reach and the public eye but little does he know that keen eyed reporter Tara has set her mind on the fact that he is the star of her next piece.
I wasn’t sure about Tara, but I thought about all the times that I have read about reporters overstepping the mark and whether I agreed or not the author was absolutely true to life.
So, Tara tracked him down hoping to get an exclusive, an amazing story but little did she know that she might get the man himself!
I loved Eli, yes, he was a little aloof and in some respects more than a little vulnerable but he took pity on Tara when he thought she was a lost hiker during a storm and that had him high on my “good guy” barometer.
I didn’t expect the twist at the end, but I suppose that is the reasoning behind writing a cliff hanger and this author wrote an absolute doozy!!!

Finding Eli is book 1 in a two part book. This book had me hooked from the very start.

Tara is about to lose her job unless she can track down the missing founder of the company she works for and get the story of her lifetime. The problem is that no one knows where Eli disappeared to. When Tara gets lucky and actually finds Eli she can't decide if she should tell him who she really is or keep that to herself. Things get steamy between the two of them and we learn that Eli didn't just vanish because he was board with New York life. With their lives in danger we are faced with some suspense at the end of part 1.

This book was a fast read for me because I had to know what was going to happen next. While I wanted to grab Tara and shake some sense into her a few times, the the chemistry between her and Eli is off the charts. I am dying for part 2 because I have to know what will happen next! A must read book for sure.- By Alisa
