Some Girls Do It #1

Shy Girls Write it Better

Rate this book
Librarian Note: This is an alternate cover edition of ASIN: B01KCNVO7M.

Cassie Franklin trips over nothing on perfectly flat surfaces every day, and she cannot seem to be able to simultaneously speak and look into her audience's eyes.

Cassandra Frank is the ultimate tease; her words have aroused, intrigued and captured the heart of thousands...
And somehow, they are the same person.

Hiding the fact that she writes erotica isn't much of a challenge - no one would ever think that a plain, boring little accountant like Cassie could so much as read anything so scandalous...
But one day, she makes a huge mistake.

Carter Harris employs so many people he can't exactly recall all their names, but strangely, he knows her. She isn't an executive, she isn't sexy, or otherwise noticeable, but the girl is cute - in a helpless, unique sort of way.
He can't pretend to say she ever crosses his mind, though... Until the day he finds the manuscript she worked on during her lunch hour.

Shy girls write it better is an adult romance with explicit content. Standalone novella ending on a happily for now note.

Cute, short, smutty. What more can you want?

Exactly!

This reminds me of an Alexa Riley book in a way. There is the older, alpha male billionaire who falls for the shy, sweet, virginal girl. What he doesn't know is that she writes erotica books during her free time. Then, it's on. The romance is a slow burn - which I appreciated.

Yes, it was full of all of the tropes, but it did develop their characters quite a bit for such a short book. I'll read more of the series.

Shy Girls Write It Better by May Sage is the first book of the erotic romance Some Girls Do It series. Each book in the series will feature a separate couple so they can all be read as a standalone if one chooses to do so.

Cassie Franklin is the shy and awkward one in her office who keeps to herself but she holds a secret, she's a writer of erotic romance in her spare time. When Cassie's latest writing effort ends up in the wrong hands she never expected help with her writing, in more ways than one.

Carter Harris runs the company that employs Cassie in her day job and when her latest book lands on his desk he's totally surprised it came from the shy Cassie. Carter now has the excuse he needed to speak to Cassie so he approaches her with the idea of helping critique her work.

Shy Girls Write It Better wasn't a bad read but it wasn't necessarily a good one either in the fact that it's a story we've all read before. Boss likes shy employee and they begin a relationship, this time using her lack of sexual experience and being an erotic author as an excuse to fast forward to the sex scenes. The story wasn't going too horribly but it barely got them together and it ends giving a feel of there should be more to come except instead you get a short, vague epilogue leaving me to rate this at 2.5 stars.

I was bored and was looking for a short book to read and decided on reading this novella that only has about 180 pages. Unfortunately though, it really disappointed me and I'm glad I got it for free.

The first half of the book was still okay and I liked it. I thought it could actually turn into a good and enjoyable story but that wasn't the case. Instead things began being unrealistic and boring. It was badly written and the characters had no depth. There was no connection between them and me as a reader. What annoyed me even more though were all the grammatical errors and spelling mistakes. Especially the overuse of commas and semicolons drove me crazy. This book could use a good editor.

All in all, the first half of the story was enjoyable but the rest of it unfortunately wasn't. The worst part though was the ending of the book because it was very abrupt and at first I didn't even realize that the book is over. The subsequent epilogue didn't make things any better though because you just felt like it didn't have anything to do with this story. It was literally three pages long and didn't tell you anything about what would happen. It didn't even feature both main characters ....

Because of all these things I can only give 2 out of 5 stars to this book. One star for the first half of it and the second one because I actually managed to finish it and didn't just give up on it.

Update review: Giving it another star. I forgot how funny this was and the issue with the hero I had before didn't bother me at all on re-read. I loved all the characters(except the ones I wasn't supposed to) which is not usual for me. I thought is was funny, sweet, and some great heat and tension. The only thing I still hate is the ending but mostly I wished it was longer more than anything so that is why not a five star because I wish I got more story at the end.

Cassie Frank is working as a shy accountant but a erotic author on the side and it's her little secret. That is until her hot boss and her get a piece of mail mixed up and her new manuscript ends up in his hands.

Carter Harris is shock that is adorable little employee wrote what he is reading. He would never have thought it of her but he has been intrigued by her since he first saw her. When he gives her back her book she is shocked that not only did he read it but is interested in giving her his opinions about how to make what he thinks is good better but interested in getting to know her as well.

This is a really hard one to rate. I enjoyed it and thought it was cute. I thought that it had humor without that ott type stuff that usually doesn't work for me. I liked the hero but he knew he needed to do better so that was great. I also wished it had a better ending. It was a book with great bones but because it was kept short nothing it wasn't given all the time it should have gotten to be a better read. So while it was cute and I loved the heroine and thought it was funny and liked the hero too it just wasn't given enough to give it higher stars.

Disclaimer: This book is rated 18+ due to adult language (lots of swearing) and adult situations (sex scenes).

Cassie Franklin is a shy, introverted accountant at Harris Toys who’s hiding a deep secret. Accountant by day and bestselling erotic romance author by night. It all started when she had extra time at work and decided to write a romance to kill time. Flash forward and she’s got three bestsellers under her belt. Her shyness kills her social life but that doesn’t stop her from having a serious crush with the CEO of Harris Toys, Carter Harris.

Carter Harris is a busy man and when he first met Cassie, he thinks she’s cute and helpless. Her awkwardness makes him smile yet he never asks her out because for one, she’s an employee and for two, she’s not his type. But when a chance meeting in the breakroom between him and Cassie allows him a hidden glimpse into her alter ego, he can’t resist the temptation. They become friends and he even helps her with her brand new BDSM romance. Carter’s about to discover some girls (especially shy ones) do it better.

I loved this romance by May Sage! I’ve read her fairy tale retellings but with Shy Girls, I couldn’t put it down. I read it in one sitting. Addictive to read and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. The chemistry between Cassie and Carter sizzles on the page. Witty, humorous banter makes the dialogue sing and I could totally envision each scene.

Favorite Character/Quote: Cassie. She’s a shy, slightly clumsy girl who’s been in love with the head of Harris Toys for years. She’s smart and a successful erotic romance author, too. I loved the way she blossoms into an outgoing sexy woman in this book.

My Rating: 5+ stars

This is an office romance/friends to lovers trope
Carter is a self made billionaire and Cassie works for his company. They’ve known and been attracted to each other since Cassie’s first day on the job but things never went any further than a few stolen glances. Cassie, because she’s terminally shy and kind of klutz who can’t imagine someone as put together as Carter ever being interested in someone like her and Carter because although he feels a strong pull towards Cassie, he isn’t ready to settle down and he sees fresh faced innocent Cassie as the settling down type.

When Carter accidently ends up with Cassie’s manuscript for her newest erotic romance, he can’t resist teasing her and in the end offering to mentor her on the more sensual side of seduction. The plan was to remain platonic and just friends, but Carter finds it harder and harder to resist Cassie and every dream and fantasy he sees reflected in her eyes.

What I liked:
The writing style flowed nicely and I enjoyed reading it through in one sitting. The way she characterized the characters was interesting, especially Cassie with her sweet and naughty side and Carter’s relationship with his mother. They were fleshed out and engaging.

I really liked that the relationship wasn’t all about sex, they didn’t immediately jump into bed with each other. They became friends before they finally give in to their mutual attraction and I liked that build up.

What I didn't like:
Carter didn’t have one but two OW that made recurring appearances/mentions throughout the book and granted, they didn’t create any major drama but the fact that this is such a short read and Carter keeps circling back to these OW was annoying.

One of the OW is his FB and I didn’t like that he was with her for three years (one and a half of those years, he already knew and had feelings for the h.)

It was hard to overlook that whole mess, especially with the whole story ending so abruptly. The author has potential and I think that a few more pages of Carter and Cassie as an actual couple and finally together would have gone a long way to make up for it. The ending just felt off because the whole story had this nice consistent speed throughout only to end so suddenly.

Had to take a 'Pinch' off for a very small amount of typos.

I swear this story made me laugh out loud and even 'Snort' laugh more than once.

It may be a short read, but it was a great read. Great flow, great mc's and a smattering of adult steam.
That's the other reason for taking that little pinch off my rating. It could have used just a hint more of the 'Steam'. But what I got was Very Satisfying

In fact, I enjoyed this so much that I am going to make sure I get Them All!

A super fun read for us Grownups!

P.S.
I'm going to start the 2nd one in the series in about 5 minutes! 🤣🤣🤣

She’s painfully shy in real life but writes erotica. Most of the time I wanted everyone to quit pushing her. One day her boss finds her manuscript and realizes his efficient office drone has many more levels.
Good story!

I always feel bad leaving an unfavorable review and to be honest I was torn on this book. This was my first book by this author. When reading new to me authors, I like to keep an open mind. That being said, I've changed the rating on this review from 2 to 3 stars several times before posting. Here's my honest take on this book.

Great story. I loved that Cassie was a shy klutz with a hidden naughty vixen to her. I've known plenty of shy people and the things that go through their heads would surprise people. As a former "shy" person, I loved reading as Cassie slowly came out of her shell. There were no obvious plot holes. I actually found myself picturing some of my author friends during the opening scene, trying to write at their desks at work and pretending to be working. The story was straightforward and entertaining. The characters were enjoyable and likable.

The wording was off in too many places for it to be overlooked. Don't get me wrong, the book did not have spelling errors, so that's a huge sticking point for me. But the wrong correctly spelled words were used often. Spell check would never have picked up on it because the words were spelled correctly. However, just because a word is spelled correctly does not mean the sentence makes sense. I would recommend Ms. Sage fire her proofreader and hire someone who will do the great story justice. Someone who will actually read the book as opposed to just running it through spell check and deeming it fit. It was a great story, but every time I encountered the wrong word being used in a sentence, I cringed. Cringing is not good when reading romance.

Now on to the ending... it just kind of ends. I wasn't looking for HEA. Not every story needs to end with marriage, 2.5 children, a dog, and a house in the Hamptons. But some resolution would be nice. "You're fired" and that's it and the epilogue left a lot to be desired. Not a big deal if their story is continued in the next book, however, from what I understand this is it for this couple. So we are expected to make the leap that eventually Carter wears her down when they're not even in a relationship? One hot night and multiple orgasms does not a relationship make. I didn't expect a HEA when they had sort of been hanging out together for a week. But at least make them an official couple before the story ends. I get it, he's decided that she's the one he'll marry. I want to point out he had made that decision once before and was wrong. Now, I am to understand from the author's own posts on social media that this is just how she likes to end her books. That's great. If that's how the story ends for you and the characters are done speaking to you, then stick to your guns and end the story. Otherwise, anything else comes across as forced. However, as someone who runs 2 blogs and reviews for 3 blogs, with over 5k books on her kindle, over 4k on her nook, and a few hundred more on her pc from other sources such as Smashwords and pubilisher sites, this sort of ending is not my cup of tea. So as much as I kept telling myself that I need to pick up the entire series to read after finishing this one, I'll have to pass. No point in reading a book, no matter how good it is if ultimately the end is a huge letdown and incomplete. I know this may be a different opinion to the author's loyal fans, but hey... to each their own.

One more thing that went into my rating... the book is listed as 182 pages. However, from the first page to The End, the story is actually only 80 pages. I don't mind short books. I actually enjoy them. Some stories can only be told in a shorter format. However, I don't appreciate picking up a book only to realize that it's actually less than half the size listed. Now there could be something wrong with my copy. So if anyone actually received 182 pages of Shy girls write it better, I would love to hear about it so I could contact Amazon over it. Because even with all the added content, my copy is only 116 pages long. Otherwise, I feel let down.

3.7 - Update.

After a brief email exchange with the aithor, I've decided I'm not going to leave a full review. And I also won't read anything else by her, not because the book was bad, I just didn't really like the communication with the author.

So.

PROS:
·The sex was fine, if a little brief given that it's the point of the story.
·The story, while not wholly original, was interesting enough to read through quickly.
·The writing was fine, engaging, no real issues with a bunch of mistakes or noticeable plot holes.

CONS:
·Sort of boring. Just when she's talking about the actual stuff with publishing, which seems more important than the romance at times.
·Not enough story to really offset the lack of a lot steamy sex.
·Characters felt a little unrealistic.
·Seriously, MC billionaire is such a momma's boy.
·Most interesting character was the secretary.
·Kinda short. Might have benefited from length.

All in all, it was fine, but I probably wouldn't have read it a bunch of times anyway. I can't say if I'd recommend it at this point, but it's not bad.

I feel like this was missing parts or something, because it seems to go from them not knowing each other, to them engaging in light S&M in the office really quickly. This felt more like an outline or a draft of a book, than a completed book. Very disappointing.

The formatting of the Kindle was annoying. It seemed like each sentence was one paragraph and that just drove me crazy. There were also grammar and spelling errors all over the place.

I enjoyed it very much my only regret is that the epilogue was very short and didn't give much about what happens next with the H/h hopefully we'll hear more about them in Psychobitch can't wait :)

After quite a few misses in a row, I quite enjoyed this one!

It's a short story about a shy accountant who also secretly writes erotica with some success, and her company's boss whom she has a crush on.

The boss who also noticed her since they first met, finds her adorable but too innocent for his tastes. That view of her is shattered when he ends up with her latest manuscript by accident and realizes there's more to her than meets the eye.

The two begin an unlikely friendship that turns into more, until the hero finally gets over an issue that had kept him from seriously dating and the two become a couple.

Apart from the epilogue that I would have liked to be a bit longer, I have no complaints from this short story. It was light and fun, and although my bar might be a bit too low at the moment, it did not annoy me in any way, so I count it as a win.

The series continues with Scrooge McFuck, which I hope will be as lighthearted and fun too.

This book was ok. I didn’t really understand why the heroine was writing about BDSM if she knew that she wasn’t good at it. There was something about her naivety that annoyed me, but otherwise, I did enjoy the premise. I also liked the hero. The fact that he easily could’ve been the cocky alpha boss, but wasn’t was a nice surprise. I don’t think I’ll move on in the series just because I have a feeling all the heroines are going to be a little mousy and that can get on my nerves after a while.

3.75 stars. Cute and sexy romance novella (it's naughty, but I wouldn't count it as erotica—maybe romantica). This is my first read by May Sage, and I think I purchased it quite awhile ago when it was on sale at some point. I had completely forgotten about it and then stumbled on it on my Kindle today.

Shy writer heroine? Great!
Embarrassing incident between her and the hero? Sounds good!
Start off as friends but then just-can’t-help-themselves? Let’s do it!

I will say it was a QUITE quick turnaround from Cassie not being able to look men in the eye, to being so comfortable with Carter she

On a separate note, a big thing that was missing was our ending!!! It honestly felt like a chapter or two were accidentally left out. All of a sudden, we’re in the Epilogue, which doesn’t even include our heroine, and since it’s pre-them-officially-getting-their-HEA, that’s not really okay. There are no outstanding issues or anything, but ... come on!!

Finally, could definitely have done with a better editor, because there were mistakes (at one point she’s 30, at another she’s mid-20s) and confusing time lapses/timeline mixups.

All-in-all though, I really enjoyed Cassie and Carter. They were cute together and although it’s a novella and it’s a lot about the chemistry between them, it oddly did not at all feel like a lust-based story. Even though she’s found him attractive since day 1 and vice versa. And he decides he wants to fuck her pretty quickly. And there is a semi-sex scene relatively early on in their new friendship.

But still, even after rehashing it all in my mind just now as I had to list the above out, I’m still sticking by my statement that it didn’t feel like a lust-based story or lust-at-first-sight. Weird, but great!! Because I kind of really hate those.

I liked the teaser for the next book in the series ... and might end up buying it now and staying up late to read it. Oh authors, why oh why do you do this to me and my sleep patterns?!
How he managed to keep a straight face, he didn't know. The poor woman was sitting in front of him with her hands knotted on her knees, on top of the folder she'd brought with her, eyes down, looking contrite like a naughty kid sent into the principal's office.

Painfully aware that a dozen people were looking at them through the translucent walls, not even bothering to hide it, he willed himself to remain professional at all cost.

Damn, he was so close to cracking up.

"So."

He left the word hanging between them without adding anything for a minute. When she stole a peek at him, he just couldn't help shooting her an amused smirk.

That surprised her; her wide eyes bulged on her pretty face.

"
Tame Me If You Can?"

"I can explain."

He lifted an eyebrow, increasingly amused.

"I found the content quite self-explanatory."

Super Quickie Review:
This is was cute, nice, quick read. It's a simple story but I liked the characters and the romance. I would have given it a 4.5/5 stars except for the ending. It feels like it got lopped off. There needed to be one more short chapter pulling it all together to give you that "riding off into the sunset" feeling (proverbially speaking). Instead the end jut felt abrupt. But i still really enjoyed the story.

Well this started off pretty good. Cassie was just adorably clumsy and just plain sweet. Her character was subdued but fierce at the same time and not in an annoying way. The buildup and subsequent relationship between her and Carter was super cute, but then the book just abruptly ends! One minute Carter and Cassie are having breakfast and the next he's ending a previous entanglement and talking about marrying Cassie...then nothing! It was such a huge fucking letdown!

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Cassie has been crushing on Carter for quite some time but he's well out of her league. He's gorgeous, successful and dates a certain type of woman and Cassie is far from being his type: doubt he even notices her - or does he?

Cassie is innocent, plain but sweet, and lets not forget she has two left feet lol.

Carter is drawn to Cassie: she's adorable, cute and although clearly not his type, he's captivated by her.

I couldnt stop laughing when Carter's mother made an unexpected visit to the office to see Carter. Carter goes into panic mode looking for a way to hide Cassie lol. I loved his mother's reaction to Cassie 'keep her or else' lol - mum knows best!

Carter's assistant Lucy made me laugh at her brutal honesty towards the guy hitting on Cassie. My jaw dropped when she went psycho crazy on Tara: putting her straight once and for all that Carter doesn't want anything to do with her.

An epilogue would have been nice because the ending felt a bit abrupt and quick.

Fantastic book, I couldn't stop laughing throughout. I loved the characters: they made me laugh and smile. Carter and Cassie has an amazing connection and their encounters were hilarious.

May has done an amazing job: I've read several of her books but this one was my absolute favourite: I didn't want Carter and Cassie's story to end.

This is a weird fantasy. The plot was boring. The characters were flat. The relationship was forced. I couldn't get into this book, but I did finish it. This was about a virgin erotic book author. Who wanted to write BDSM, so she needs a guy to help her have experiences. It is one thing for a woman who has sexual experiences to want to try new things, but a virgin going from nothing to BDSM and loving it... Not realistic to me. And then having a loving relationship form from that. The other thing is the sex wasn't that out of the ordinary. It was mostly just sexual harassment, since he was the boss, and she was a nobody in his company. I don't understand where the authors get these plot points. I have to wonder if there are really people out there so desperate and naïve that they will believe in this stuff. Do women out there really fantasize about this kind of stuff. It seems the kind of thing that that a lonely woman might wish to believe, but then I want to believe that no one is this pathetic. I am trying to be open minded and even accepting of different lifestyles, choices, relationships, and ambitions, but sometimes when I read something like this... It makes me sad for humanity. Is this what someone aspires to? I am done with my rant.... for now.

What a full of humours quick read.
It is my first read by this author but I laughed so much that I have already the box set in line in my Kindle.
I love everything, all the characters are so very nicely drawn, from the jealous h’s boss, to the PA of the CEO, his mother...
Carter is an awesome specimen of alpha male with the heart of a scout girl.
While Cassie is a lovely kind and shy but funny woman with a very naughty side.
I adored every interaction the h and H had, they made me smile and laugh.
If you want to enjoy yourself for a short full of fun moment, don’t miss this book.

Ahhh this book was so cute ... well hot and cute that is. I have enjoyed this whole series. They have all been satisfactorily quick reads. There were just enough about the characters, just enough of the story, and just enough of everything else. I think of them all as being perfect diversions if you are looking for a quick read.
