Continue Brie's pulse-pounding adventure in book seven of The Enhanced!
The High Tower has fallen, changing the city forever, and thousands of Savants have been killed. But there’s one, above all, that the Nameless want gone. The question is…is he among the dead? From the church beyond the city, to the centre of Inner Haven itself, Brie and her allies begin to turn the tables on those who have oppressed them. But it won’t come without cost, and Brie knows that she, just like the city, will never be the same again.
What a wild ride, so much going on and not everything is as it seems. The characters are well developed and evolve with each new installment. Brie has changed so much from the young girl who used to visit the high tower and is more hardened in some ways. Zander her twin or polar opposite reminds me of the Savants with his reactions although living that kind of life would make you distance yourself from your emotions. There is less focus on Brie and Adryan this time and I am not a huge fan of that relationship as it does not seem believable but as a person Brie is endearing. She genuinely cares for people and stays loyal to them, Sometimes she is a bit reckless but means well. This book focuses on the rebellion and trying to win the war. I have to say I am not a huge fan of Lady Orlando but she seems like the lesser of the two evils compared to Cromwell. I understand they are at war but the reactions to losing a key member of the team surprises me. Brie is the only one who wants to find her while the others see her as collateral damage. There were a few editing mistakes that annoyed me but overall this was a quick read as I finished it in a couple of hours. So many questions remain - where is Agent Woolf and if Cromwell is alive what is he planning next?
I thought there may have been a connection so the big "reveal" was not a total surprise and although parts of this were predictable at times it will be interesting to see how that secret plays out in the next book.
Invader may be my favorite of the whole series now. Absolutely wonderful story, filled with suspense, at every turn. This was another one I simply couldn't put down until I finished it, and now I can't wait to read the next one. Edge's writing just gets better and better.
This series has a good story, and I liked the characters. My only issue, and this continued through all 10 books, is the repetitiveness of all the statements. I can only read "I hate him" (in different words or the same, doesn't matter) so many times before I am sick of hearing it. So, in the later books, I found that I could spot another paragraph that would summarize the same feelings again and I was skipping paragraphs because it was just text with nothing actually happening. The character's inner dialogue was not that important in the story... which brings me to think that this might be nit-picky and maybe this was just a younger reading level (a teen might need these things spelled out for them). However, I would not want my young child reading about the wars, because of the (very well done) descriptions of blood and gore. So, good reads, they drew me in and kept me reading, but I could have used less repetition over the known info and known feelings.
All of the books are an Five, I'd give it a lot more if possible. It only took me about two hours to read, I kind of wish I didn't read so fast but, that's that. Loving the series, hate the wait but I know it takes so very much to write them. Thanks for this particular book. It came in time for my birthday. Look forward to whatever comes next. I do have a bit of a clue to where your going with this as far as other characters.
This one ends in a shocking cliff hanger that has me wanting to jump straight to the next! The news that us readers learn will have our heads spinning, just like Brie's. But it's not just the news at the end that has me wanting to go to the next book... It's the fate of one character that we readers have come to know and love (well at least I do because she reminds me of me) that has me desperately scrambling to go forward.
You think they won't do the unthinkable, but they did. The story is more about trying to built up and retake the city now it is on its knees. Still there are pockets of enemies to deal with. Also Brie changes from the naive and compassionate girl to a hardened soldier. But something happens at the end of this story that was a nice twist to the story and keeps you wandering.
The plot, continuity and story line has improved greatly throughout this series. In this book I really see the development of the characters into people I know and either root for, cry for or hate. Can't wait to see where this goes. And I have to say, I'm so glad most of the Adryan storyline was left out of this. It hasn't been my favorite. But Kira! Ahhhhhh. And on we go. Lol
I have the omnibus edition of this series so will just say that book seven has more than one surprise up its sleeve.
There are battles, some won, some lost. There are intriguing characters, some good, some not so good, while others are new to us. The plot thickens and further mysteries are yet to be unraveled.
Thisseriesjust takeshou deeper and deeper. What more can our heroine deal with. Entire series in draper need of editing. Wrong word usage a d every chapter begins with incorrect letter spacing.
And so another twist is thrown although this one I suspected. The story continues on as the city is retaken by the Nameless and Brtie continues to fight for those she loves
This is a fantastic series. The world building and character building was awesome. This would make a wonderful movie or tv series!! I can't wait to delve into the other books by this Author.
The enjoyability of this story is nicely sustained. I like the way Brie has evolved to become desensitised to the necessities of war. It is nice that her history is starting to unravel.
Giving a general review of this book I can say there were so many emotions through the pages. The book had action, happiness, sorrow, hope...it was a mix of them all. I can say this was my favorite book, mostly because Brie has finally found her "inner soldier" and she seems determine to do anything to protect her people. Not to mention the awful truth of her origins! I definitely didn't see that one coming!
Also what I like about this book is that it was not necessarily centred on Brie even though she's the one narrating the story. We explored new charatcers, their backgrounds and their feelings towards the war, not to mention we had some losses because of it! I like the author's way of writing because you can never ever guess what's going to happen next and that (at least me) keeps you reading page after page until you're finished.
Now, my thoughts as I were reading the book...
Oh my God! I have been left speechless. I knew Brie had it in her. I knew she was capable of killing people who deserved it, that it was only a matter of finding a reason, but...she impressed me. So much. It was something incredible, so now I am positive Brie is the soldier she claims to be.
Now about her love life, well I still don't like it. To be honest, I don't think Brie and Adryan are in love. I mean, it's obvious that they care for one another but the feeling doesn't seem like it's love. I don't know what it is, but definitely it's not love love. I hope that "couple" resolve their problem soon.
And well, speaking about 'love', oh my God, please make Zander and Tess a couple already! I'd love to see those two together, and also it would be fun to see Zander in new scenarios instead of only being the protective big bro. haha
And finally I liked the new character added, Kira! Her personality is very refreshing and different from the rest, because everyone is like thinking about war and responsibilities, and Kira is like enjoying just what she does. Oh, I need to know what happened to her! I agree with Tess though. Both Kira and Tess became my favorite characters so I want to know what awaits for them.
I cannot wait for the next book to be released. I am so excited for it.
