Vampire Academy is the best series ever!!! I have really enjoyed jumping back into this fascinating world. These short stories have been wonderful and I am so happy I decided to read them. I just can't get enough of this series, I will take whatever I can get!!
The Turn and the Flame (Tasha's POV) ★★★★ Throughout the VA series, the stain on the Ozera family name is mentioned quite a bit. It was really great getting an inside look at their dark past. The past that has plaged the Ozera's for many many years. It all started when Tasha's brother Lucas and his wife Moira, Christian's parents turned Strigoi (by choice). They came back to take little Christian, but his aunt, Tasha wasnt gonna let that happen no matter what! It was really interesting finally getting a look into their past. Tahsa was even a fighter way back then, with her own mind and strong views. I also loved seeing Christian as a little boy. He was brave and adorable and I like how even then he was moody lol. I also like the little bit of romance that was tossed in, it was sweet and enjoyable. One more thing that was awesome is the fact that Dimitri was in the story. It was cool seeing how and when Tasha's and Dimitri officially met!
From the Journal of Vasilisa Dragomir (Lissa's private thoughts) ★★★ Eh... It was okay. Nothing to special really, but it was nice getting a look inside of Lissa's head back in the early days when her and Rose were on the run. To see how dark her moods got and how deep her depression would run, at it's darkest point, to where she'd actually cut herself. I liked seeing how Rose and Lissa managed to elude the Guardians for so long. How they'd take bus after bus and moved to different states whenever potentially bad things may result in being recognized or over suspicious noises, if anything didn't feel right, Rose wouldn't take a chance and they'd be on the move again... That is of course until The Meeting. ⬇⬇⬇
The Meeting (Dimitri's POV) ★★★★ "Me? I didn't believe in hopeless." - Dimitri Belikov
“She might be unarmed, but Rose Hathaway was in possession of many weapons.”
W-what?? Really? That's all we get? That was the biggest damn tease EVER!!! It's Dimitri's POV for crying out loud and all we get is 3 measly pages! B-b-but its Dimitri and I love him (whines)!!! That was just not enough, I want, no I need MORE. Okay... okay fine, it was really cute while it lasted and I loved getting to see his first impression of Rose. He called her a wild girl in his head *sighhh! Rose and Dimitri are my favorite fictional couple and they go together like pb&j. (Rose + Dimitri = Always & Forever)
Hello, My nane is Rose Hathaway (Rose's POV) ★★★ Every year at St. Vladimir's Academy they throw carnivals for the lower and upper campuses to celebrate a Moroi saint. On that same day the Kids, Moroi and Dhampir alike play The St. Varvara's Day high-stakes scavenger hunt. It's a tradition - an unofficial one that is! There is a list of certain things you must acquire and each one is worth different points, the only thing is you have to steal and do a lot of breaking and entering's. So you'd better not get caught lol!! Don't worry everything gets returned and whoever wins get a lot of different prizes. It was cool seeing Rose, Mason and Eddie being a team. I sure have missed Mason :( Rose of course was a total badass! It was also pretty cool seeing Dimitri bend the rules and help Rose. They work so well together but we already knew that didn't we?
I'd read the VA series back when I was sixteen. And that was in um... Gosh, was it 2013? And reading this little collection of short stories brought back. So. Many. Memories.
I'm just... Overwhelmed.
Rose, Lissa, Dimitri and Christian were such important fictional friends of my youth. No kidding.
Rating individual stories ------
1. The Turn and the Flame : 5★
It told the story of what really happened when Christian's parents became strigoi and all that went down. And I swear Tasha and Christian's pain and all that they survived was enough to bring me to tears.
2. From the Journal of Vasilisa Dragomir : 5★
It shed some light on those two lost years when Rose and Lissa were on the run before Dimitri brought them back to St. Vlad. It was heartwarming to relive the bond Lissa and Rose share. They were my goals for female friendships growing up.
3. The Meeting : 5★
For all my love for Dimitri, this one was tame compared to the rest but still great. I love seeing Roza through his eyes.
4. Hello, My Name is Rose Hathaway : 5★
Hahahah God this was awesome! (Read awwwwesooomeee! ) I loved this one. The festive vibes, the scavenger hunt, the Rose Hathaway sass, the stolen moments shared between Dimitri and Rose, just all of it.
I loved this precious addition to the world of VA! ♡
This book contains four short stories connected to the Vampire Academy world. It's been a while since I read and re-read the VA series, but these stories took me right back to all those readings, all those moments, all those discussions with my friends.
The Turn and the Flame - 5 stars
This story is about the Ozeras. How Christian's parents became strigoi, and how his aunt, Tasha, and he dealt with it at the time it happened. There's also a special cameo by the younger Dimitri Belikov. This story made me a little emotional, and I ended up loving it a lot more than I had expected to.
From the Journal of Vasilisa Dragomir - 5 stars
This story is from Lissa's pov, or rather her journal entries during the years Lissa and Rose were on the run. This shed light on how they fared, and I loved getting Lissa's pov.
The Meeting - 4 stars
This story is from Dimitri's pov when he meets Rose for the first time. This was way too short a story for it to be even called a short story, but I loved Dimitri at the beginning, and I loved reading this, too.
Hello, My Name is Rose Hathaway - 5 stars
This story is about St. Vlad's Academy students celebrating St. Varvara's Day, which is celebrated a month after Halloween, like a second Halloween. They have all the Halloween games, and a scavenger hunt to win some awesome things, especially dark chocolate bacon truffles for Christian to be gifted by Lissa. So, Rose teams up with Mason and Eddie for the scavenger hunt to win the prize for Lissa, and unbeknownst to anyone else, Dimitri also helps. This story had everything, and it is based right after the first book. I loved it so much that I am giddy with joy, and I am looking up recipes for funnel cake now.
I loved all these stories so much. These made me sad, happy, and nostalgic, very, very nostalgic. I'd love to read more such wonderful stories if Richelle Mead could whip up some to add to the VA world.
I didn't really care one way or another for the first story, it did show us how Dimitri and Tasha met, though. And how she got into teaching boxing.
The second novella was Lissa's journal and it was a wonderful view of before Vampire Academy started and how her and Rose lived after leaving the school.
The third one is ENTIRELY too dang short and shows how Dimitri instantly felt something towards Rose the day he met her. I seriously need an entire book from his POV.
The last novella was cute and fun and showed Rose and the others during a scavenger hunt. Dimitri makes an appearance and I NEEDED THAT.
In the end, these were great little insights into the VA world and I'm glad they exist.
I absolutely love it!!! To read about Rose and Dimitri again is totally a dream, I love them so much. Lissa diary and Tasha story give me more perspective of the story and more thing that I learn.
I LAUGHED SO HARD I CRIED ALSO I CRIED BECAUSE DIMITRI.
The Tasha story was intriguing and I enjoyed getting to know more about her and why/how she became who she is. I did expect a bit of a deeper backstory as to why Christians parents felt the need to turn strigoi. I feel like the explanation as to why they did it was a bit… shallow? But hey, maybe that was the point!
The Lissa journal entries were unfortunately a bit of a let down…. I feel like I didn’t really learn anything new.. apart from rose’s love for football?? Lol. I feel like it could have been a lot better.
The meeting, Dimitri’s perspective when meeting Rose for the first time was perfect. LOVED it. Only thing is, I wish it was way longer. I loved seeing Rose through Dimitri’s eyes. It shows how he immediately had admiration toward her. He loved her bravery most of all and the fact that he called her “wild girl” I MEAN?!!!!!!! 🥵 petition for richelle to re-write all the books with dimitri POV. Pls pls I would do anything.
And last but not least, Hello my name is rose Hathaway is my favorite. It was pretty much perfect. I loved how simple it was, it gave a super cozy feeling. I’m a sucker for Halloween and all things fall so the fact that this was set around Halloween, with a fair, costumes, candy and dimitri dressed up as a sexy cowboy just made my life way better.
I read it after a couple of years after I finished the original series and it was like fresh air! I enjoyed it as much as the rest of the books. I gave it 4/5 ⭐ because I would have liked it better if the stories were shorter and many more... A bit too many details in the last one with the scavenger hunt, but can't make a fuss out of it. The author is one of my favs and I can't wait to read more of her books 😍
From the Journal of Vasilisa Dragomir maalesef sadece sıkıcıydı.
İçlerinden en sevdiğim Hello My Name Is Rose Hathaway, bana bir zamanlar neden "harıl harıl" Vampir Akademisi okuduğumu hatırlattı.
Vampire Academy: The Untold Stories is a short story collection from the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead.
I absolutely love this series and really enjoyed jumping back into this world. These stories extra stories were such a joy to read! I really missed Rose and Dimitri, and I hope Richelle Mead writes more about them and the countless other lovable characters from Vampire Academy and Bloodlines.
If you loved the series of the Vampire Academy I recommend you read this too.
The first story: The Turn and the Flame is told from the perpsective of Tasha Ozera and is my favorite story because it really showed how she became the person she was and we see how Christian parents changed. It was heartbreaking!
The second story is a part of the diary of Lissa. It was fine but it good have been better.
The third story The meeting was told of the first time Dimitri and Rose met from the perspective of Dimitri: one word: PERFECT! I want more^^
The fourth story Hello, my name is Rose Hathaway shows us a little more about the life at the academy and their traditions. It was a fun extra!
I'd like to preface this with asking how the F*CK did I not know about this until the year of our lord 2022!!! I'm a fake fan.
The Turn of the Flame I really liked seeing how it was when Christian's parents turned strigoi, but other than that, it didn't really add anything to the original story or Tasha's character- except in providing a little backstory for her. All in all, I liked it but it was nothing exeptional. Rating: 3.5 stars
From the Journal of Vasilisa Dragomir CW: self-harm I LOVED this! Seeing Lissa's thoughts from when she and Rose were on the run was so great, and I really liked getting a glimpse at how Spirit was affecting her so early on and how she and Rose tried to get through it. Rating: 4 stars
The Meeting I had read this some years ago and completely forgot about it, so rereading it was wonderful. I love Dimitri and following him and his thoughts for when he and Rose first meet is a real treat. Rating: 4 stars
Hello My Name is Rose Hathaway THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN. I loved every second of this story. Rose being Rose, and MORE previously unseen Romitri content???? I ate it UP! Give me moooooreee! Rating: 4.5 stars
Whenever I miss Rose, I'll re-read " Hello! My Name is Rose Hathaway". It takes place in the early days when she was still a high school student and life was less complicated.. It shows the funny, tomboyish part of her personality and her friendship with Eddie and Mason.
Each of the three stories had there good parts. My favorites was “the turn and the flame” and “hello my name is rose Hathaway”.
The turn in the flame was really neat getting to see young Christian and Dimitri and see what really happened to Christian’s parents. It was also neat to see roses mom in action since there hasn’t been much said about her before. It was also neat to find out more about Christians aunt Tasha and his parents. The tragic love story and bittersweet ending was really good. The story was very dramatic and it sucked you in. This was one of my favorites out of the book.
From the Journal of Vasilisa Dragomir the story it was neat getting to see some things from Lisa’s point of view. I did not like the whole diary journal layout. It covers triggers of self harm or cutting and depression. It was nice to see how the story with Rose and Lisa got started in the first book. It was good to find out when Rosa and Lisa’s birthdays are and that Lisa’s is near mine. It was good to find out what caused the death of Lisa’s parents and brother.
The meeting was short but it was interesting to see dimitris point of view of finding Rose and Lisa and their first encounter. It was also neat to see his first reaction and thought of Rose from his point of view.
Hello my name is Rose Hathaway overall I thought the story was really good and rather funny. First of all roses costume was funny then add the fact that she is competing in a scavenger hunt for her best friend Lisa’s boyfriend‘s birthday present of chocolate bacon truffles. Then add Dimitri catching her trying to steal one of her CDs for the scavenger hunt and then he end up helping her. Then add that Dmitri helps her sneak into headmistress Kerovas bedroom and the headmistress is flirting with Dimitri while Rose is in her bedroom. Then add Dimitri’s joke about Judy Blume. the story was so funny. This is my other favorite out of the book.

This was a nice compilation of short stories, though not the best. Though I really enjoyed the last one way too much for my own good, it was just so random, a scavenger hunt and Dimitri breaking rules, it's a concept for a lifetime. The story about Christian's parents turning strigoi was really sad, and I actually enjoyed getting to know Tasha before that event!
As for Lissa's journal entries, they were nothing mind-blowing or really necessary, but if you're a fan of the series I'm sure you can enjoy getting more info on Rose and Lissa's escapades. One thing I did enjoy about them though is that we got some characterization of who Lissa's brother was when he was alive, and I thi k that was a nice adition and something that I wished we had had more of in the main series.
A fantastic, fast-paced read for fans of the Vampire Academy world. The writing style was easy to follow and there were no unnecessary descriptions. I absolutely loved being back with the gang and learning more about them too. I had missed them so much! My opinions on each of the short stories are detailed below.
The Turn And The Flame It was so sad reliving Tasha's story. She always had the right idea but the wrong execution. This short story also reminded me why Christian was my favourite character in the series; such a sensible young boy.
From The Journal Of Vasilisa Dragomir Hearing about Lissa's struggles with spirit from her perspective was sad. Rose was such a good friend to Lissa. It was interesting seeing what they both got up to in their time away from St. Vladimir's.
The Meeting It was great reading from Dimitri's point of view. His opinion of Rose was a bit cringe though.
Hello My Name Is Rose Hathaway I loved this story. It was a nice and fun adventure, and I enjoyed Rose's thoughts on everything. I also liked the ongoing joke about Rose's costume.
I really liked the stories about Christian's parents and the things he experienced/endured and I really hop that we will see his aunt Tasha again in the main series!! This one was probably my favourite of the stories.
I also liked the story about the scavenger hunt with Rose and Dimitri, because it felt like it simply belonged into the main story as well.
The journal one was nice but nothing special.
Overall, I liked this novella, because it extended the world a little. 😊
It was great reading more of the VA world. I loved all of these, especially the good old scene told from the love interest pov. It was also interesting reading about Tasha and Christian’s parents when they turned Strigoi. I just think the pieces from Lissa’s journal weren’t really interesting but it was a great additional read nonetheless!
Richelle’s note to the reader was very sweet, and as a fan of course I had to read Untold Stories. The first two stories were engaging and captivating, but the third and fourth fell flat for me. I’m not entirely sure any of these stories really needed to be written, but I’m glad I read them. It was nice of Richelle to give the fans a little treat.
Oh my god it's been so long since I've been immersed in the Vampire Academy universe, this story took me right back and also wrecked me? Making me want to reread the series for sure ahh.
From the Journal of Vasilisa Dragomir
This one is such a time too omg, major throwback and the way they're just moving around taking classes, the things Lissa likes and the things Rose likes are so them!
The Meeting
THE BEGINNING OF ROMITRI, it's so fitting ahh.
Hello, My Name Is Rose Hathaway
If the last story had me almost screaming because it was the beginning, this one even more so because all these Romitri moments ahh!!! The way she convinces Dimitri and the whole costumes thing and that ending I love them so much.
