Rebecca Gablé wurde am 25. September 1964 in einer Kleinstadt am Niederrhein geboren. Nach dem Abitur 1984 machte sie eine Lehre als Bankkauffrau. In diesem Beruf hat sie anschließend auch vier Jahre gearbeitet, meistens auf einem Stützpunkt der Royal Air Force, wo sie viel über England, seine Sprache und seine Menschen gelernt hat. Aber die Lust am Erzählen hatte Rebecca Gablé immer schon, und 1990, nachdem sie ihren ersten Roman geschrieben hatte, gab sie ihren erlernten Broterwerb auf, um aus der Lust einen Beruf zu machen. Sie begann ein Literaturstudium in Düsseldorf, dessen Schwerpunkt sich mehr und mehr zur Mediävistik - der Lehre vom Mittelalter - verlagerte.

Nach mehrjähriger, frustrationsreicher Verlagssuche erschien 1995 bei Bastei Lübbe ihr erster Kriminalroman „Jagdfieber“, der im Jahr darauf für den Friedrich-Glauser-Krimipreis nominiert wurde, und sie trat der Autorengruppe deutschsprachiger Kriminalliteratur - dem Syndikat - bei, dessen Sprecherin sie drei Jahre lang war.

Seit Beendigung ihres Studiums 1996 arbeitet sie als freie Schriftstellerin. Zwischenzeitlich hat sie auch zwei Semester lang altenglische Literatur an der Heinrich-Heine-Universität in Düsseldorf gelehrt, was sie zu ihrem Bedauern aus Zeitgründen wieder aufgeben musste. Seit mit ihrem ersten historischen Roman „Das Lächeln der Fortuna“ 1997 der Durchbruch kam, hat sie etwa alle zwei Jahre einen Mittelalterroman veröffentlicht, die alle Beststeller geworden und in viele Sprachen übersetzt sind. 2006 erhielt sie für ihren Roman „Die Hüter der Rose“ den Sir Walter Scott-Preis.

Rebecca Gablé lebt mit ihrem Mann am Niederrhein und auf Mallorca.

Es ist jedesmal wieder wie nach Hause kommen und immer wieder ist ein großes Stück Wehmut dabei, wenn es zu Ende ist (übrigens unabhängig vom Format, ich empfinde die Geschichte in all ihren Varianten so).

Das ist der dritte und letzte Teil der Hörspiele vom Buch Das Lächeln der Fortuna von Rebecca Gablé. Ich habe die Reise mit Robin, seiner Familie und dem königlichen englischen Hof sehr genossen. Es war eine schöne, abenteuerliche Geschichte zum Eintauchen. Ich hatte oft das Gefühl einen spannenden historischen Film zu sehen und dabei noch etwas über die englische Geschichte und das Haus Plantagenet zu lernen.
Sehr gelungene Umsetzung, die sehr eng an der Buchvorlage ist.
Sehr zu empfehlen.
Ich werde sicherlich die weiteren Bände und Hörspiele lesen bzw. hören.

Eines der besten Hörspiele die ich gehört habe. Trotz der extremen Schwarz/Weiß Zeichnung der Charaktere, ist mir die ganze Waringham Familie ans Herz gewachsen

Geschichte ist schon etwas Besonderes. Und das Mittelalter in England hatte viel zu bieten: von Jungfrauen in Nöten über Ritter in glänzenden Rüstungen, erhaltene und wieder verlorene Lehen, Schlachten, Seuchen und vor allem Intrigen und Heimtücke am Hof.

Auch der dritte Teil des ersten Bandes der Warringham-Saga ist als Hörspiel ein absolut gelungenes Werk und wärmstens zu empfehlen. Kopfkino vom Feinsten!

Bei mir ein Überflieger und 11/10 Punkte wert.

I always enjoy these audiobooks, the voice actors are brilliant, the sound effects are amazing and the music too! I actually forget that it's just a story in my head sometimes, the characters feels so real and I get to imagine what they look like while they talk. Gablé does a great job of making me fear certain characters while loving and laughing with others! (And it really feels like I'm laughing with them) But even the ones I fear or hate, Gablé makes me feel sorry for them too and the things they've had to endure and the circumstances that made them who they are..... If I say any more I'll spoil something! 😅 It really is a great one for driving or if I'm trying to learn something on the piano but I'm not really in the mood, it will keep me rooted to the spot, playing my pieces while the drama unfolds in my head.
Can't wait for the next one!

The story continues and is of the same high standard! I must say, I am more of a 'High Mediaeval' nerd- the later middle ages (including the interminable war of the roses and the depressing hundred years war) have always seemed slightly off-putting. But I needn't have worried- this involving story made me forget my reservations about the period and just enjoy the story, the characters, and of course the progression of a certain feud!
It a HUGE shame that Audible have suspended production of the original six installments indefinitely, because I finish the third volume emotionally absorbed and committed to the story!
This series, and the Scarlet City books, are something quite special: a story you can really get lost in.

I read this an an Audible book - and I just love this series.

I am a big history fan and love reading about the Plantagenet dynasty and the Wars of the Roses. I also happen to be a big fan of Rebecca Gablé's storytelling and these audible originals after listening to the 'Apprentice' series. So put these two together and I am one very happy listener.

On top of this, these books are so well narrated, the voice acting and sound effects are great, characters well developed, and it all pulls you in to a really engrossing story. I just really enjoy listening and I look forward to listening on my daily commute.

Would 100 recommend and can't wait for part 4...

This is a truly amazing series! It is a shame a translation only seems to exist in audio format, as I am sure these would be extremely popular otherwise! Witty, well written, amazing dramatisation, funny, sad, and with a great historical background and perspective. I truly enjoyed these!

Was very surprised this isn’t the last book. Can’t wait to find out what happens next. This series is a little less bleak for the hero’s then the Jonah one and I feel like the characters are more well rounded.
