Griffin Cain makes love better than any man. Night after night his decadent, sensual acts turn conservative Sydney Edwards into a wanton woman. I write the kinds of books I want to read. Fast-paced books with lots of world-building, snarky heroines, and swoony heroes. I love story, pop culture, gossip, and baked goods. I’m a modern-day hippy and certified LEGO nerd.
I live in the Austin, Texas hill country, with my geeky husband and two extremely geeky kids. We have dogs, chickens, cats, and more LEGOs than should be allowed by law. Oh, and I stress bake. So if my characters talk about food a lot, that’s why.
All He Really Needs by Emily McKay Sydney Edwards and Griffin Cain have been having a secret affair for four months. Sydney is starting to have doubts about the affair and thinks it might be time to end it before things get too complicated. She is his brother’s assistant at Cain Enterprises and while Griffin worked at Cain Enterprises, he was far removed from the CEO position, until his brother resigned putting Griffin in as intern CEO. Sydney wasn’t going to be one of those women who slept with her boss. Those affairs never ended well, so their affair had to come to an end. She couldn’t quit now though. Not only was the job giving her security (something she lacked most of her life) but Griffin needed her. Since she had been his brother’s assistant she knew the workings of Cain Enterprises, she had also been helping his brother search for the missing heiress. And Griffin wanted to find her too so he could give the position back to his brother. During the course of one argument Griffin ended up firing Sydney. Sydney knew she could never work for Cain Enterprises again knowing Griffin was her boss, proving to herself why it was never a good idea to sleep with the boss. This is the second book in At Cain’s Command series, in which a father issues a test to his three sons (one being illegitimate). Whoever finds the missing heiress will inherit Cain Enterprises. Even though the missing heiress is still not found, the issue of who will own Cain Enterprises has been resolved. This was a nice turn of events. Emily is creating some wonderful characters that I am enjoying reading about.
All he Really Needs by Emily McKay is one of those books that it fun to read but you will never think of it again once your finished. These types of book are often the hardest to review. It seems rude to use 'meh' to describe a book but it is the best I can come up with. The book was fine but unremarkable, I enjoyed it but didn't fall in love with it.
This book is not bad. Emily McKay has weaved a nice romantic story about family and trust. The plot, writing and characters were all adequate. Everything was really, really 'nice' but I couldn't really connect with it in any way. What this book, and many others like it lack is depth. There were no real stakes, no growth or personality. It was sweet and cute and it entertained me for a few hours but it didn't effect me in anyway.

I actually enjoyed this book far more than I expected. I have admittedly not read a Harlequin book since I was a teenager but these characters really grabbed me and I ended up falling in love with them by the end of the story! Now I may want to read more Cain novels...
Good book with quite a few issues going on. First up is the continuation of the search for the missing illegitimate daughter. Dalton had gotten some information by the end of the first book in the series (All He Ever Wanted). Then he resigned and turned the CEO position over to Griffin. As second son, not much had been expected of Griffin and he played that up whenever he could. He used his position in International Marketing to hide his activities with a charitable foundation because his parents were as anti-charity as anyone could possibly believe. Griffin had also been having an affair with his brother's assistant Sydney. The passion between them was incredible, but they didn't really share anything about themselves outside the bedroom. Sydney had grown up in foster care and worked very hard to get where she was. She never wanted to be one of those women who slept with her boss, and when Griffin took over the CEO job she tried to end their liaison. But he really needs her help doing his job and finding his half-sister. I really enjoyed seeing Sydney stick to the strength of her convictions. I loved the way that she stood up to Griffin's mother and refused to be intimidated. I also liked seeing her call Griffin on his nonsense and then walk away from him. Griffin was an interesting character. His parents' manipulations, especially his mother's, had had a real effect on him, making him doubt his ability to be loved. He kept insisting to himself that what he and Sydney had was just sex, but after awhile he couldn't fool himself and realized that she had gotten closer to him than anyone else ever had. She also knew him better than anyone else did which really made him nervous, especially when she confronted him near the end of the book. I loved the way it was such an eye opener for him. I still really hate his parents. I'm looking forward to the next book and getting to know Cooper.
All He Really Needs is an enthralling novel with a refreshing twist. Sydney and Griffin start out as a couple whose relationship consists almost entirely of sexual encounters. When an unexpected shake-up in Griffin's company leaves him as the interim CEO, Sydney is suddenly his new assistant. Faced with a radically new professional relationship, the two halt their sexual relationship. In their quest to adjust to new responsibilities, Sydney and Griffin fall in love.
I'm delighted to have found a book that doesn't feature sex as a primary factor in a couple falling in love. Instead of falling into bed to discover their feelings, Sydney and Griffin work together and subsequently fall in love. As layers of their respective facades peel away, they find that, despite their history together, they knew each other only half as well as they thought. Their understanding of each other deepens, as does their mutual respect, and it is then that they realize how deeply they feel for each other. McKay's execution of this decidedly non-Harlequin plotline makes All He Really Needs a must-read.
Really enjoyed this novel. Sydney and Dalton's inter-office affair is all about their physical relationship as neither know anything about the other outside of the bedroom. They both have baggage and keep some pretty closely guarded secrets. Dalton's also got a big chip on his shoulder about big a Caine and having a woman only love and want him for hies money. Sydney, with her background, wanting someone to need and love her. Dalton & Sydney's relationship is pretty hot and their emotional journey to their hea was well worth the read. I particularly liked the ending and the parallel of Sharlene's relationship with Dalton's dad to that of Sydney & Dalton's (with their relationship obviously having a much happier conclusion). I also liked that Sydney was a strong female character.
I'd say it's really a 3.5 star. Really enjoyed the book. It opens with Griffin and Sydney being secret lovers, because she works for his brother. That quickly changes when her boss, Griffin's brother, resigns and suddenly her lover becomes her boss. Which makes her boss her ex-lover now. He needs her to help meet the demands from his dying, manipulative father.
D2213 Feb13 Griffin Cain and Sydney Edwards suddenly find themselves working together. Her boss has resigned leaving Griffin to be the CEO of Cain. Many twists to finding the missing sister. Looking forward to more of the Cain family story.
