Hi there! I'm an author of mostly sci-fi/fantasy YA novels, like Legend, Warcross, The Young Elites, Skyhunter, and Stars & Smoke. My adult fantasy debut, Red City, releases this October 14, 2025.
I graduated from the University of Southern California and currently live in LA with my family. Before becoming a full-time writer, I was an Art Director at a video game company. Now I spend most of my time writing, trying to keep my plants alive, and getting stuck in traffic. I feel very honored that I get to tell you stories, and my deepest wish is always that my books can offer you some joy, solace, entertainment, and/or escape. With all my heart, thank you for reading.
OMG, this is literally everything I’ve ever wanted. It is the closure, the certainty, we all needed. If you love Day and June as much as I do, you will love this! Thank you Marie Lu, with just a few pages, you stole my heart all over again 😉❤️
For those who want a summary of what happens: ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I came upon the two afterstories and fourth book years after reading the initial trilogy, so I’m very fuzzy on how the 3rd book ended.
That being said, this was still a good short story. I love the chemistry between Day and June, I just don’t remember why they have memory issues. If anyone wants to refresh me, feel free to send me a message!
MY FUCKING EMOTIONS. OMG THIS NOVELLA IS PERFECTION I'M CRYING. 😭😭😭😭 DAY AND JUNE FOREVER!!!! <3
P.S. Thank you Raf @ The Royal Polar Bear Reads for letting me read your copy of this novella! ------------------------------------------- This is Champion epilogue in Day's POV and one thing is for sure:
IT'S GOING TO RIP MY HEART AGAIN. 😭💔 I better prepare boxes of tissues when this comes out.
“I loved you. I love you still. I want to be with you.”
I gotta admit, though I really did enjoy this novella I was pretty confused for most of it! Then I realized this is Day's perspective of the years after he lost his memory up until the day he meets June. Like I said in my previous review I really need to do a reread of this series, if I would have I wouldn't have been so lost. Even so, this was a very touching and heartfelt read this has made me miss Day and June so so much more!! I love them!! (😭😭😭) They are such wonderful characters and such an achingly sweet couple. I loved seeing, my sweet, Day find something that he had lost and to finally be happy :) I NEED MORE, SO MUCH MORE!! I 100% recommend this to all the Legend fans out there, you'll not be disappointed.
Estoy llorando... Esto es tan hermoso... Day y June son hermosos... imperfectamente hermosos.
Day recuerda junio.
“I loved you. I love you still. I want to be with you.”
Her name is June. And even in the midst of my broken memories, I know this with complete clarity. Her name is June, and once upon a time, I'd given my entire heart to her.
And just like that we are linked again, she is here with me, I am with her, and a piece of my heart is put back together
I loved you. I love you still. I want to be with you.
This was awesome, being able to see Days struggle over the 10 years and with his memory but it ends where we did with June. Honestly I thought there would be more. I wish she would continue this trilogy one day like Tahereh Mafi is doing.
And here I am, still waiting to buy this tiny preciouss thing when I hear “Life After Legend 2” will be available. But... US only *sigh*
Sometimes I just feel like they don’t give a damn about international readers. :(
And I want these novellas!! Why aren’t they available to ALL Legend fans?! I get that they needed to boost the preorders for Warcross, but it’s been a while, why not get some money from it now just as well?
Also... Maybe Warcross fans don’t even like Legend (after all, I didn’t care for Warcross that much), while I’d give anything for the chance to read some more about these characters that I still love to pieces even years after falling in love with the books for the first time.
I loved this book in every way though there wasn't anything added to the end, but it still amounted to alot for me. It's all about Day's perspective of those years after he lost his memory till the day he meets June. Just couldn't get enough even now, but I'm content to have read it :)
As much as I enjoyed reading the original epilogue in Champion from June's point of view, I'm glad to be granted this glimpse into what Day had been doing during those ten years. I especially liked having the final moment between them rewritten from Day's perspective. Of the two, he was always the more emotional so the scene was definitely stronger here. This was definitely sweet and a good way to end the series.
“Damn. She’s gorgeous. And the thought feels so oddly familiar, the wave of déjà vu so intense, that I suddenly feel like I’m walking into the past, staring at someone I must have once known. (…) The woman meets my eyes briefly. I’m hit with an overwhelming sensation, a feeling so strong that, for an instant, I can barely breathe. There’s something teetering right on the edge of my memory, but it’s just out of reach.” - Day
This is the only thing I've needed in my life since I finished Champion early this year. The story does not "continue" with this "extension," it simply is enhanced with more background from Day during the heart-breaking epilogue of Champion, and provides with readers with all the closure they need. :)
This might be my favorite Day POV chapter from the whole series. I love Eden so much!! Also, Lu's writing is the most gorgeous here. Only thing I wish is that we'd gotten an impression of the Republic through Day's eyes as he returns after 10 years but instead the short story jumps right into him and June seeing each other.
