My Review - This book is for every Empath on this planet. Like this book talks about empath's life. The way they do what they do, the way they react for the reasons they react. Everything. This book even tells how to protect oneself from emotional draining, one of the major problem faced by Empaths. The book starts on by telling the reader and letting them discover whether they are an Empath by a very interactive questionnaire. Although, an Empath already knows that they're Empath. Later the book goes on explaining several traits of an Empath and why do they feel drained, consumed, confused by the presence or even by simply being in the vicinity of people. And finally, the book moves towards a very important topic on how to shield them self from this vicious emotional and physical draining. This book work as a magic for those who are empaths and maybe others who simply want to know more about them. For me, this book turned out to be a gem which crossed my path even when I was not searching for it. It was like the book came searching for me. The book that I didn't even know, I wanted to read.
Conclusion - The very book to be read by every Empath.
This was a good read. I’ve learned a lot about what an empath is, and what kind of empaths are there. It was enlightening :) It offers practical tips for highly sensitive people on how to harness their empathy and intuition for positive outcomes. It’s a valuable book offering guidance and support.
This book was very informative and helpful in giving me ways to help deal with my emotions that always seem so intense when I'm with one person or many people. Being an empath is very difficult to control all the masses of feelings that are coming at you from all different directions. Never having any info given to me on how to deal with this, I am happy I purchased this book. It has a variety of ways to help clear my mind & body of all the feelings but my own & to become a more centered, calm & happy person in both mental & physical ways.
A good beginners' guide to the subject - this feels like the sort of thing I should have read when I was sixteen and called an 'empath' in my end-of-school report. That said, I'm pushing forty now so I knew most of what this book was trying to teach me.
I really don't like the disclaimers at the beginning. I know they're important and that you can't take a kindle book in place of medical treatment but it just went on and on, which was rather disconcerting.
However, there are some words of wisdom here, a lot about crystals and chakras (all informative stuff) and although I disagree with the idea of empathy being a form of psychic ability or paranormal talent, it's a quick read. Which is why it's a shame there are quite a few grammatical mistakes. 'Are' instead of 'is', 'has' instead of 'have', an 'it's' that was meant to be an 'its'. They might only be small niggles but there were too many to ignore.
this book was perfect! Like many other books it did provide a good framework for beginners to get to know their talents and abilities; however, it also provided the perfect amount of detail and how to express and exemplify those abilities as well! This is something that not many books do and I was very pleased in the amount of concise but thorough explanation (proving both useful and interesting) this book included.
Excerpt from book: "Sometimes, they can also perceive feelings of people who are far away when they unintentionally connect to them. When this happens, it can be confusing for empaths because there is nothing in the environment to explain why they are feeling the way they do."
The above is true but so is the inverse. If a person is thinking about me, if there is negative chatter or gossip, any mention of me without me being there....or if anyone has positive, unhealthy, or negative thoughts about me, you're unintentionally inviting me into your life as well as your mind and yes we empaths will always know what's going on especially what's behind the scenes.
More Excerpts:
"They have sharper than normal observation skills that enable them to comprehend things more. This also makes them more understanding of other people, thus they can be good counselors and healers."
"they can easily sense whenever there are things going on beneath the surface. Because of this, they can be quite smart, and it is quite difficult to lie to an empath especially those who can read minds as well."
"Aside from this, they are judged harshly by society, especially one that does not know about empathy and other psychic traits."
"Empaths like to improve things. Many empaths are driven to create positive changes. Their inborn creativity, imagination, and resourcefulness help them to accomplish these. This is because they easily notice whenever something is wrong or there is something that is lacking. They want to help the needy and make life better for them."
"There are also those who will telepathically link to someone else who knows a lot about the thing they are interested in – eventually, they become experts themselves."
"Sometimes, empaths may be good mediums and clairvoyants. This makes them interesting to the spirit world. Because of this, they may attract both good and bad spirits."
"Empaths are often selfless. Sometimes, they are more aware of others’ feelings more than their own. This makes them become less self-centered and more oriented towards others’ wellbeing. They also have e need to take care of those around them. They are good listeners and can be very insightful counselors."

These are a few highlights that pinpoint out the many gifts we do have. One thing I understood as an empath was I understood more about the afterlife. Life doesn't stop once we're gone from this world. We are constantly needing to be reborn to learn and atone for past life mistakes. This explains why some have a much easier life while others don't. There are mention of negative spirits, who are they? They are the serial killers, the pedophile and hedonists, thieves, the corrupted, and in some cases the manipulative liars and those that leave this world doing atrocious things to mankind. Most think there's hell and pitchforks lol, its none of that. These people live in their own sphere of darkness and can create havoc for human beings while being disincarnate. They can mislead people, plant seeds of anger, envy and all other kinds of things unimaginable to humans. Sounds insane but it isn't. They know once they are reborn, they will have a life where they will have to relive what they put others through so they just linger around. If there was advice I can give as an empath to others: it would be to live a life with as much altruism, be of service to others as much as you can; live, speak, and think in truth and fair justice, exercise patience and optimism when facing adversity, never engage in activities that may hurt another, never abuse of power and money, don't deprive others of their rights or happiness, don't laugh at another's weaknesses and failures because the very same thing may happen to you in another life since we are to live multiple lives until we are done atoning, be as non attached to materialism and money, don't slander or spread false news to hurt another because it eventually becomes your own undoing in another life, don't kill animals for sport or for fun because a body is just a body and we very well can be reborn as an animal to relive the harm we caused in a previous life, don't take life for granted especially those that have loved you unconditionally, and live a life with as little judgement of others and live in as much humility as much as you can and learn as best as you can. Never wait for opportunities...pursue them regardless of what people may think or say, express your individuality and have a firm belief in God but remain as unattached as possible from religions because people are going to be surprised to know that they are created by mankind but not from God.
My sister is currently reading The Empath's Survival Guide by Dr. Judith Orloff and has been telling me how interesting and insightful her reading experience has been, which made me want to explore some literature on this topic while I wait for her to finish reading and loan it to me. This led to me searching Kindle Unlimited to see what books they had available on the subject of Empaths.
I'm a highly sensitive person and I most certainly feel that I am an empath, based on my admittedly small amount of knowledge about empaths. I'm very susceptible to the feelings of those around me, which has made me somewhat reclusive for much of my life. As a nurse, it has made me very compassionate, but simultaneously, I feel that this trait has made an already exhausting career choice to often become mentally and emotionally draining. I require a lot of "alone time" after my shifts are over each week, because being around others is often a very overwhelming experience for me. I love one-on-one time with my patients, especially the elderly, but being around all of the pain, anxiety, loss, and often anger, is often difficult. These struggles are also a large reason why I traded in acute care for rehabilitation nursing. Those emotions are still there, but they're more tolerable in a less chaotic environment.
Anyways, I was hoping this book would increase my understanding of Empaths, thereby helping me to understand myself a little more. I didn't really find the book to be all that helpful in terms of increasing my knowledge and understanding... I think I will prefer the book my sister is reading as it is written by a psychiatrist and it sounds as though it will appeal more to my "medical" brain. On the other hand, this book did have some very helpful techniques that would be great for reducing anxiety and helping one cope with emotionally charged situations.
Ryan James and Amy White’s Empath: How To Thrive In Life as a Highly Sensitive is a comprehensive and illuminating guide for those who identify as empaths or highly sensitive people. As the first installment in the Empath Series, this book serves as both an introduction and a practical manual for understanding and managing the unique experiences of empaths.
The authors delve into the core traits of empaths, providing insightful self-tests and explanations to help readers recognize their own empathic abilities. The book offers a thorough exploration of the challenges faced by empaths, from emotional overwhelm to the difficulty of separating their energy from others'. This section is particularly valuable, as it addresses the common struggles empaths encounter and provides practical strategies for overcoming them.
James and White also offer a range of techniques for managing and harnessing empathic abilities, including methods for clearing negative energy, chakra development, and emotional management. These tools are designed to help empaths protect their well-being and thrive in a world that can often feel overwhelming.
What sets this book apart is its holistic approach—combining psychological insights with practical advice. It's a lifelong guide that encourages empaths to embrace their sensitivity as a gift rather than a burden. The authors' compassionate and accessible writing style makes complex concepts easy to grasp, and their tips are both actionable and grounded in real-world experience.
For anyone who has ever been told to "stop being so sensitive," this book is a refreshing and empowering read. It reassures empaths that their experiences are valid and provides a roadmap for turning sensitivity into a strength. Empath: How To Thrive In Life as a Highly Sensitive is a must-read for those seeking to understand and make the most of their empathic nature. I learned so much about myself by reading this book.
Well, I’d say because I answered “yes” to most of the qualifying questions from a very long list in this book, that I am truly an Empath. I suspected my status before reading this book, however, this book reminds you, the Empath, of some serious housekeeping that you MUST do if you want to go through this life and keep your sanity. Sanity is good. Quick read with some great tips and reminders. Good idea to read multiple times or on the occasion as a refresher, especially the self protection and having good boundaries sections, which seem problematic for the everyday Empath. Here’s to being open (and closed) at the same time!! I recommend.
Recommending yoga, meditation, and even crystals or essential oils as tools for self-reflection and relaxation are all fine. What is NOT fine is claiming these things can significantly reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety without a disclaimer that you are not a mental Healthcare professional or even recommending to consult one.
"This yoga pose works your glutes and also releases all of your negative energy," is an actual quote that summarizes the author's entire attitude. Do not waste your time with this toxic positivity/spirituality nonsense. Please consult with mental health resources near you.
Being an empath left me with a lot of unanswered questions. I previously read a book about being a HSP and it left alot of unanswered questions in my mind. So I picked this book up and this cleared everything up for me. It gave me more insight of what being an empath actually means. This book helps me everyday in my day to day life now. Thank you!!!
I LOVED this book. I've been reading up on Emapths because I feel strongly connected with it and wanted to learn more. This book was very eye opening to me and I took so many notes, it felt like an ah-ha moment while reading this (which I didn't have with past books). I'm so glad I picked this one and will for sure be going back to it for references in the future!
This book could have only been written by an empath for an empath. The assessment, description and guidance was informative and spot on. While reading I felt "understood". I have known about my empathic abilities decades. This book still offered great advice and reminders of how things just are. Perfect for beginners and seasoned healers.
I don’t care much for the crystals and the psychic ability parts, but I do relate to all the others. The short quiz definitely showed that I fit the title of empathy. I had a difficult time handling my emotions because of this. So, I chose to read a book to assist me with each emotion. Overall, this book has some helpful tips to help those who are empathetic.
Exactly what I needed to read when I needed to read it. Many blessings to you. I especially love the chapter on chakras and how you explained each one very easily and clearly to understand. I also enjoyed how you thoroughly explained basic remedies to the symptoms of intense empathy. Peace 💖
This book was a quick, concise confirmation and validation of what I've experienced my whole life. Nice to know that my experiences have an explanation and reason. This book has given me some useful tools to employ in order to keep myself healthy and my mind clear.
I enjoyed reading this book cover to cover. It had a lot great tips on how to handle being an empath. The tools that are suggested would help anyone, an especially empath.
I identified very much with the descriptions and totally agree with all of the advice given in this book. It also gave me a few more good ideas on how to cope with this. Thank you for sharing this book. I really enjoyed it! 5 stars!
Straight forward and easy to read. I really felt they understand where I am coming from. The ideas and suggestions are simple and I should have seen it myself but sometimes we can be blind to the obvious.
This is a fab book to start your journey into exploring being an empath. I've been empathic for as long as I can remember. Looking back, I can see it more. This book has been insightful for me to start looking after myself more.
It's a good broad guide on the subject. It covers many things that a budding empath would find helpful. Everything is organized well and has helpful exercises.
