I bought this before I went vegan again. I was trying to solidify my conviction to make it easier. I didn’t read it until I was already vegan.
At first this book was a good resource for reasons to be vegan. But it became very repetitive and for maybe 200 pages it seems like the same argument. The writer even copy pasted paragraphs from previous chapters and puts them in different proceeding chapters, which was a let down. I also thought the book was flawed because he doesn’t include the footnotes or citations of the research and articles that he derives his information from. He just writes that such and such is a fact that he learned through his research. That is not enough for me to respect him or his book. I had already gone vegan before reading the book and some of the points he makes I had already learned about through previous (decades ago) research of mine, but still, if he is going to make claims then he should state where these facts and studies had come from. Especially since the purpose of this book is to convince others (non-vegans) to go vegan…. This is in contrast to the literature I had read in the 1990’s which originally inspired me to go vegan back then… those books always had footnotes and cited the studies and at the end of the books they would give a brief explanation of the studies or findings, and where the study was published. To make matters worse (for me) in this new book, he frequently says to do our own research online (he does give websites) but I imagine if I had not already been vegan, and furthermore not had been vegan for a long time before reading this, seeing such proselytizing would have completely turned me off.

Interesting views

I enjoyed reading this book, it has helped me look at veganism in a different light. It has brought up interesting points and some I had not considered or even come across before.
The suggested way of reading this book is to dip in and out of chapters depending on topics, however I read it in a traditional way, from start to end. This is were I might have gone wrong? I felt it was quite repetitive throughout like I was being told what I should be doing and not making my own mind up.
