The Rising men are pure myth, or so Dane thinks. Everyone in the town of Grizzly Ridge whispers about how either the Rising men can control the wild bears that roam the mountains, or that they are the wild bears themselves. On his way home from work one night, a stranger nearly hits Dane on the backroad. When the guy gets out of his truck, Dane is kidnapped and taken high into the mountains. Clint grew up in the mountains, his bear clan hidden from humans. Out on an errand one night, Clint decides to take a shortcut and nearly runs a man over. Pissed at the guy's carelessness, he gets out and discovers the human is his mate. His bear takes over and Clint bites him, starting the process that will enable Dane to carry his child. But Clint's life is filled with dangers, and the biggest danger of all is his father.
[Siren The Lynn Hagen ManLove Erotic Alternative Paranormal Romance, shape-shifters, M/M, HEA]
Lynn Hagen loves writing about the somewhat flawed, but lovable. She also loves a hero who can see past all the rough edges to find the shining diamond of a beautiful heart.
You can find her on any given day curled up with her laptop and a cup of hot java, letting the next set of characters tell their story.
This began as non consensual then became drug induced consensual. Human Dane was not told nor given a choice by Shifter Bear Clint. Clint determined that Dane was his mate and immediately bit him. After being bitten, the bear saliva forced Dane's body to go into heat and prepare for pregnancy. He became pregnant within a couple of days. Dane suddenly lost all personal desire and internal drive to return to his old life and/or civilization. His focus turned to eating, lazing around, and having sex. Dane and Clint had their moments, but their relationship was mostly boring.
There was no background on how the Rising brothers earned an income. They were quite aimless in their daily activities.
The majority of the plot centered around the brothers' violent and mentally deranged father Clarence.
The mpreg labor and delivery was beyond bad. It was terribly unsafe. Clint and Dane did not pre plan at all. No self learning, no midwife, no preparation, no nursery, etc. When Dane went into labor, it took everyone by surprise. Clint put his unwashed hands inside Dane's body to pull the baby out. The Rising brothers started to party before Dane had finished and was out of risk of complications. Clint just wiped Dane down with a washcloth. They didn't have a crib for the baby and put him in the bed to sleep between themselves.
I can already see it.. the spin offs instead of something that revolves around the whole mountain, each group will get theirs and be part of the 'bigger' world...
I'm not sure I cared so much about the whole Clarence crap and how it was handled. I think it should have made more of a statement of Clint taking over as head of the clan now that he's finally strong enough. Then again, I'm kind of left wondering how long he's been able to take control of the clan and just didn't want to have to take out the family trash....
Dane... well I kind of like that he's portrayed as a little...imperfect. Not that he's described as chubby, but love handles and a little bit of man boobs was used, making him insecure of himself. Whereas Clint is crazy about him just as is.
I think this is off to a good start and while I ended up not waiting until all the brothers books are out, at least the first 3 are so my waiting is cut down, yay..
This first story in the Grizzly Ridge series was very different from how I imagined. When I started reading it all I knew was that it was about Grizzly Bears. And since I love a good Bear story I've been eagerly awaiting its arrival in Amazon, but I couldn't wait any longer. I had to go to the publisher to get a copy and I don't regret it one bit.
The story wasn't your typical shifter tale. The shifters shunned Humankind and were shrouded in mystery even though their ancestors founded the town. Hunting, blood shed, and killing kept them up in the mountains & their presence mere whispered rumors of the Rising men / Bears.
This is a story of family dysfunction as its worse. A tight knit group of six brothers terrorized by a huge, mean, overbearing, abusive Grizzly father. Clarence took out his anger and frustrations on his sons. It escalated after the accidental death of his sweet shifter mate. Since her death he'd grown increasingly crazier.
It was only a matter of time before the eldest son, Clint had to do something about the monster his father had become. But the damage already wrought was wide sweeping. The physical and mental torment he directed toward his own sons was horrible. When he started targeting other shifter communities - ultimatums were made.
Having been raised by such a brute of a man the brothers grew up with no manners and little restraint. They followed their father's horrible example of how to treat each other, other shifters, and the "evil" people who populated Grizzly Ridge. When Clint found his mate he was not gentle or understanding initially. Being Human, his mate Dane was scared, confused, and confounded by life on the mountain and within their clan.
This is a violent story. Shifters vs shifters, father vs son(s), brother vs brother. But there is hope if something can be done about the Grizzly Bear patriarch. He is the cause of a great deal of mountain consternation. Dane's presence as a Human, a mate, a civilizing source brings a much needed sense of normalcy to the Rising clan. If he can survive the plans Clint's father has for him. The old tradition of the patriarch being able to sleep with any new mates.
The six Rising brothers: Clint, Trigger, Walker, Duane, Wade, and Bobby Ray all have very distinct personalities, and the reader is also introduced to some of the Alpha leaders of the various shifter groups residing on the mountain. One Bear in particular stands out for his humorous ways and as the target of his father's wraith, that's Bobby Ray & coincidentally the next book in the series is dedicated to him.
I enjoyed this book. It really kept you entertained - guessing as to what was going to happen next. If you are a mpreg fan you will enjoy this story. Dane denied the probability of a man being able to conceive; even as he experienced morning sickness. Do you like Lynn Hagen? She's my girl and I can't wait for more from her.
Meskipun punya Ayah yg psycho tp Rising bros are decent men. Tiap anak punya personality yg berbeda-beda. Karena Clint anak tertua, dia memikul tanggung jawab terbesar dan dengan adanya Dane disisinya dapat meringankan beban tsb.
I enjoyed this first book of the series. I've read the, Remus Brothers, series, and loved it, so I'm slowly making my way through as many as this author's books as possible. :D Clint is a grizzly shifter who almost runs his mate off of the road. Realizing that Dane is his mate, he snags him and takes him home. The story was enthralling, and the characters are well depicted. Clint has five brothers and an abusive, psychopathic, father. The other pack (wolf, lion, leopard) leaders are introduced into the story as Clint's father causes brutality and chaos in trying to start a war between his sons and other packs. Dane is a sweetheart, and I like how he deals with living amongst these big, dynamic, and sometimes violent bears. The pace of the story is fluid and doesn't drag. The world building is also compelling (different from the Brac Pack), and I can't wait to read about these brothers finding their mates. Fantastic. :)
Re-read. This story is really short, but it had all the elements I expect from an omegaverse, which I liked. From fated mates, to heats, protective alpha male, and a baby (which is a cute addition). I liked the characters, though I would have appreciated if it had an epilogue. I REALLY like sweet epilogues, especially when there's a baby involved. So I actually missed that. Plot wise, this is an insta-love and everything happens really fast so don't expect great character development or world building. If you don't expect too much from this story, you're gonna like it. (As most of this author's books) I didn't really cared about the Clarence "sub-plot", so that part of the story was a bit "meh".
Recommended if you're looking for a short omegaverse read, especially if you like bear shifters. It's a cute story. I'm probably gonna read the other books, since I'm interested in Clint's brothers. Especially Bobby Ray.
This started off a little rocky, with a little dub-con, kinda forced mating, but got a lot better. I really enjoyed this take on bear shifters, with mpreg thrown in. Was it fluff? Most definitely, but it was the best kind of fluff possible, well-written and interesting. I loved the Rising brothers and Dane and bonus points for having an on-page birth! So many mpreg books gloss over that, so it is always great to actually get the gory details of a man giving birth! lol
*1.5/5 estrellas* Fue una historia que sentí...extraña. Siento que la historia quiso ser LGBT pero terminó siendo una sustitución de una mujer por un hombre. No sé.

This beginning of the Grizzly Ridge series. You meet a group of bear shifters that their family is very dysfunctional and at each other throat. We will see the brothers band together together to protect the eldest mate. Cant wait to see what happens with the next brother. Recommend this book as a must read
This was a cute short read. I liked Clint and Dean.... The plot was an easy follow as well... I didn't really understand the animosity between the other shifters on the mountain tho...Off to book 2
