Who’s ready for another chaotic Owari No Seraph review?! *crickets* Let’s go 😎
mild spoilers if you know what is going on and if you do please tell me lol
Guren should know the jingle by now - 🎵secrets, secrets are no fun unless you share with everyone🎵
Mahiru with the baddie energy, but I refuse to like her at the moment. But this author is throwing my emotions around left and right so who knows.
EVERYONE READYING TO FIGHT AND THE MF WALTZ IN SAYS “YO” … AND THEN YU MALFUNCTIONS
THIS IS NOT A DRILL KIMIZUKI SMILED FOLKS 😭
*yawns* I’m sorry but I just do not care for Kureto vs his father. However I guess this revelation arc is important to the plot. So I’m trying to pay attention I swear.
We have a new villain revealed as the puppet master! *whispers* They are very pretty, but trouble is coming.
Um- Aoi wasn’t ready! I wasn’t ready! I feel uncomfy.
Tehe Mika plotting. It’s funny because when others plot someone’s demise, it’s like oooo bad. When Mika does it I’m like silly rabbit.. Trix are for kids haha.
So I know he has messed up but… get yourself a ride or die like Guren (also Mika). That’s friendship levels I expect from besties. We taking down the world to protect each other.
I lied get yourself a bestie like Yu. He is down for whatever no questions asked.
In the middle of all the craziness, they are all idiots. (this is a mainly @ Yu)
AHHH GUREN CHECKS ON HIM ONLY! You cannot tell me something isn’t happening there. HE WOKE UP AND SAID HIS NAME FIRST THING LIKE THEY ARE USED TO SLEEPING NEXT TO EACH OTHER! ☠️ Someone stop my shipping brain please.
Crowley appears for maybe 5 panels in this and I’m kicking my feet back and forth. What has become of me?!
Who do we TRUST?! No 👏🏼 one 👏🏼 still 👏🏼. I’ve learned no one.
~ If you didn't know I'm a huge fan of this series so my opinions are always loweky biased ~
I've been holding off reading this volume waiting for the physical release but I just couldn't wait any longer. I loveeeee where the story is going and everything wE FOUND OUT IN THIS VOLUME DJSJSK OMG.
I don't wanna read the next one straight away in fear of catching up BUT I AM SO TEMPTED
Guren shows up at Ferid’s mansion, ostensibly to help Yu and the Shinoa squad, though Mika naturally has his doubts! Guren drops the bombshell that even the Hiragis – including Kureto, who is currently attacking his own no-longer-human father – are just pawns in someone else’s game. Oh, and that Shinoa didn’t contract with her demon: She was born with it!
At this point I just have to say it: Kagami, did your editor force you to include potential straight ships? Is that why they are so unconvincing? First the Shinoa crush on Yu, which unfortunately makes a comeback here despite the fact that Yu is either oblivious or annoyed when it comes to girls flirting with him, while Shinoa has a weird boob obsession and gets into tickle-fights with Mitsuba in the shower. Then there’s this supposed love triangle, with Shinya having been engaged to Guren’s lover, Mahiru. But Guren has such a strong bond with Shinya that he would literally risk ending the world for him, while he doesn’t seem to like Mahiru – or at least her ghost/demon self – at all. For instance, there’s a scene where Guren decides he has to fight Shinya to save him; Boys, amiright? Mahiru is all “Aah, this brings back memories…Once again, my lover and my fiancé are fighting each other over my hand.” [Guren] “No way.” [M] “I’ll sleep with whoever wins. Good luck.” [G] “Shut up and die.” Whatever that is, it doesn’t look like a particularly healthy or loving relationship, does it? The way Guren talks to Mahiru is more like the way Mika talks to Ferid, a tone that implies: “You are insufferable, I hate you, and ever talking to you was the worst mistake I ever made.” Not to mention that Shinya’s response to waking up to loud nocturnal noises is “Stop snoring, Guren!” I mean…Shinya’s a General. There’s no way he doesn’t have his own room if he wants it, right?
Favorite moments (spoilers, obviously!): - Yu concluding that Guren is back to normal when he responds to his rapid-fire excitable questions by whacking him on the head and going: “Shut up already, you little brat! Geez!” - The reveal of Shikama Doji. First, Kureto’s father saying the one pulling the strings is an “old god”. Then appearance of something that looks like an angel with a double pair of wings. But: “Aha ha ha! Oh, I am not God. He has a far more twisted personality than I.” (Which would be saying something indeed, as we discover later!). Kureto tries to activate the Seraph of the End and Shikama Doji thinks that is pretty funny, since it was his project to begin with! Oh, and also he’s the first vampire! - Mika deciding he has to try and take Guren out, even if Yu hates him for it. But, of course, just Yu grabbing his hand and sounding distressed is enough to avert murder, though not further arguing. [Mika] “Yu-chan, this isn’t right. How come everybody smiled to see him arrive? He’s the one who destroyed the world. It’s his fault we have to live like this!” [Yu] “Mika, you just don’t know him well enough…” [Mika] “And give him the chance to use me? No.”(to Guren) “If you’re aware of the atrocities you’ve perpetrated, then get lost. Leave, and never come near Yu again!” But Guren claims he’s trying to resurrect everyone his actions damaged – which of course gets Yu on board, causing Mika to hate Guren even more! - Yu argues that Mika will come to like Guren eventually. Mika overhears Guren encouraging Yu to train with his seraph with the aid of experimental drugs. [Mika] “Yu-chan, I already know I’ll never like him. Can I cut off his stupid jerk head now?”
Oh, my heart…Having read ahead, I know Guren’s future actions not only nearly lead to them losing each other all over again, just like Mika fears, but to worse than that!
Seriously, how is Seraph of the End this deep and complex now?? The first chapter was amazing, and then it fizzled into just another vaguely dystopic vampire/demon hack-and-slash story complete with a high school setting. And now, 15 volumes in? We're dealing with characters whose actions had and have serious consequences for the larger world and society. We're delving deep into the psychology of being a vampire (as seen last volume with the beginnings of Mika's detachment from his human emotions). We're experiencing a rebellion against a ruling family puppetted by an enigmatic being with sinister intentions The themes being explored are so insanely interesting and complex, like issues of moral ethics and the nature of whether or not to trust people who have done wrong in the past, yet are seeking to correct their actions. Not to mention that the once rampant fan service is few and far between in these later volumes, and that's always a plus.
This isn't really a spoiler, but Mika's diehard attitude toward protecting Yu was amplified in ths volume. I always thought Yu and Mika were a bit too defensive of each other and a bit too touch-feely to truly be just friends with a strong brotherly bond, but this volume took it to another level. Mika is basically the knight in shining armor to Yu's naive little princess attitude, and I am totally on board with their ship now. Even if the author might be setting up Yu with Shinoa, as seen in this volume and previous ones...
If Seraph of the End continues on this trajectory, who knows, it might very well become a top favorite manga series of mine. Let's hope it doesn't utterly screw up and throw everything out the window in its last volume like another series *ahem* Tokyo Ghoul *aHEm*
• Mahiru creeps me out so much! why the hell were Guren and Shinya in love with her? • the Vampires, Demons and Humans relationship keep getting more complicated wonder what shigama doji really wants is there even an end goals? 👀 • Kureto and Aoi!!! oh I should've seen that coming • Guren keeps getting more interesting I REALLY NEED TO READ HIS BACKSTORY SOON, I need to know if he's lying or not • Mika balances Yu perfectly he's the voice of reason and caution to Yu' naivety and need to help no matter what which by the way is concerning??? It's like Yu's whole self worth and sole reason to exist is to be needed it's kinda sad tbh ... but I'm pretty sure my fav scene is Yu turning to Guren and being like hey Guren are you lying to me?? (That reminded me of Luffy in Punk hazard when he looked at Law and asked if he's planning on betraying him 😂😂)
Mika: I've finally found you after all those years .. i don't want us to be separated again. Yu: Then we won't be ... i want you to stay here with me Mika and if you think I'm in real trouble come and save me MIKAYU DESERVES TO BE REAL I'm never gonna stop saying this and any other love interest for either of them will be complete bullshit.
Narumi is so cool. I hope his team are returned back to life without the baggage that Guren has to carry. Why does he feel he needs to carry it on his own? And Yu, is starting to seem a bit naive to me with his 'family' spiels... I still think it's an admirable value though.

"I've finally found you after all these years. I don't want us to be separated again."
Mikayuu is everything I'm 😭😭😭. I love how Yu is such a naive trusting little dumbass and Mika is the voice of reason trying to keep him safe. Mika desperately not wanting to be separated from Yu and Yu tells him to stay with him and to save him if things go bad??? I'm in shambles.
There is a lot of yapping but also fighting between parties and the fight between Guren and Shinya was ace. If you see me on pinterest saving Gureshin fanart, no you did not.🫰
We get so much about Kureto going and fighting to kill his father, and we learn a big ass secert as to who is behind all of this like damn okay plot twist. Also surprise, Kureto's female aide Aoi is in love with him.🙄 At least he likes her back but the fact it was just called lust on his side while she was just blushing is so on brand for this author and writing female characters.🤡
The plan now is to save Ferid and Krul so Yu starts to train to control his seraph which doesn't exactly go as planned. Cliffhanger ending, which I'm sure the next volume will go hard.
The development of this series is so good and enjoyable to see, the group dynamic is so good and the comedic moments always make me laugh (guren & mika spring to mind)
Mahiru Hiragi seems untrustworthy and I'm absolutely not sorry for what happened to Kureto. And could Yuichiro have more sense and try not to upset Mikaela please? Thanks.
I have to leave a review for this volume because this is where the plot goes haywire.
I no longer know who are friends or foes because the characters keep switching sides. One moment, they appear as villains, and in the next chapter, they are considered allies. So, who should the readers vote for? None of the characters explain to me their intentions, and I feel lost.
And Guren, who is a manipulated bastard in my eyes, made his sudden appearance to Yuichiro's gang, promising that he would explain everything to them. However, he LITERALLY EXPLAINED NOTHING, only pointed his fingers to piles of complicated books and told the gang to read them to understand his plan. Then, WHAT ARE YOU EVEN HERE FOR?
After fifteen volumes, Yuichiro's character development is non-existent. Sure enough, he learns to cooperate with his new friends, but his naivety is on another level. Whenever he opens his mouth to speak, it's all about "friends and families and teammates". It's ridiculous. Please don't get me wrong. I treasure my family and friends, but there is always a limit. You cannot consider everyone your friend, and someone who manipulated you for his purpose is not a person you can trust.
The author always seems to try his hardest to create plot twists to surprise us the readers, but seriously, he should stop all of that. His plot twists only cause more confusion than entertainment. Not to mention that the plot is SUPER SLOW because the characters talk too much. Despite that, whenever they talk, nothing major is solved. It's just a cycle of an abusive relationship - your abuser apologised and promised that they would become better, but in the end, they don't.
The reasons I still follow this manga are the vampire cast and the pleasing artwork. Mika, Crowley, and Shinya are my favourites (at this moment). Otherwise, everything is terrible. Mika is the most sane character in this story, who is a vampire but still thinks and acts more relatable than the others.
After taking such a long break I think some of the magic of the series is gone. The series is good. It's got good and complicate drama with an ever-unfolding complicated web of relationships, secret ties, secrets, and past lives. But it's also a bit weird with some flaws. One of those is the constant and continuous dialogue. Another is the tonal dissonance of having a dark world where Yuichiro and the gang just goes "anything for family bro" and that always just sorta ends up working out for them. Also the complicated web that makes the story so interesting also makes it a bit hard to read as every time a smidgen of a secret is revealed more secrets crop up that stop them from completing their mission or create a new mission. But I'm 15 volumes in so it's clear even with the flaws the storytelling has kept me coming back lol. And the story in this volume start strong with an explosive fight of Shinya against Guren. While the fight is cool it does show that Yamamoto has changed his art over this series as the demons are drawn with less of that cool screentoning. The art is still clean and refined while still coming off a tad sketchy but you can tell Yamamoto is thoroughly deep into a monthly series as his art "died down" a bit now that he's (iirc) multiple years into drawing the story. After this volume becomes very Hiragi centered as we see Kureto finally doing his coup d'etat. And we get an interesting reveal that the Hiragis have been in power so long as they themselves are pawns of something higher. Idk how I feel about this twist. I mean its a neat idea and makes the dark and murky power struggle only more dark and murky. But also, it feels sorta like a way to extend the story by making the Hiragi's part of some new or existing big bad that has to be dealt with after the Hiragi situation is finally dealt with. But also it seems to be tying some of the vampire and demon threads into the human Hiragi portion of the story. Although Kureto killing his Dad and now possessing Shikama Doji who Shinao also seemingly secretly (or not secretly?) has is confusing. Shikama Doji also creates some change in Kureto to make him a more sympathetic character as he's on a time limit as he falls into greed to help Raimeki fight against Shikama Doji's absolute posession of Kureto. It's an interesting dynamic and one I hope we get to see a lot more of. At the end it transitions back to Yu's gang. Yu's section wasn't my favorite as it's mostly a lot of talking for basically Guren and Yu's group to share info and come to work together. But then the ending comes out of nowhere as Yu learns how to control his Seraph form off-page and it jump cuts to three days to their battle with Ky Luc. Definitely leads me looking ahead to next volume just to see how the battle is handled and because we then get to see the vampire's POV who I've found more interesting this whole series.

Much exposition and revelation happened in this volume, including an epic battle in which the shocking truth behind the Hiragi family was exposed, a secret which could have dire consequences for Shinoa Hiragi, in spite of her canny choice to back away from the temptations of power and the machinations of her blood kin. Guren Ichinose is reunited with an extremely relieved Shinoa Squad and an all too happy Yuichirou, much to Mikaela’s bloodthirsty chagrin. Never has Mika wanted to kill someone as badly as he does Guren Ichinose, whom his precious Yu is all too willing to offer himself up as a sacrifice for. I emphasized a lot with Mika in his suspicions. He has reason to worry. Guren himself admitted he does. Yu is being entirely too naive and trusting. Everyone else in the group is showing a little more wariness than he is. Once more, Makoto Narumi revealed he has an incisive mind underneath his hot temper and Shinoa, while not raging along with Mika, is not ready to let the lieutenant-colonel off the hook for his past actions. Crowley Eusford was an interesting observer during all of this drama and Shinya was hilarious in his confusion while he tried to figure out what was going on. The characters were taken on an emotional roller coaster for the most part with Kureto Hiragi getting most of the physical action in his confrontation with his father and the force behind his father. Kureto wasn’t spared in the emotional drama, though, showing a vulnerable, sympathetic side in both his triumph and his tragedy. Aoi Sangu revealed that she’s a lot like Sayuri underneath her mask of cold competence or perhaps Shigure. Plots lay in wait within the plots, leaving this volume ending on a cliff hanger which left this reader eager for more. The art work was once again exquisite, bringing out Yu’s cuteness and vulnerability, perhaps giving us a shared perspective of how he looks to Mika, Shinoa, and Guren himself. Mika was the one going through most of the emotional revolutions of protective rage and vulnerability, cutting through his normally lovely, impassive mask as he witnessed how much power Guren has over Yu’s heart. Will hatred for Guren enable Mika to hold onto his humanity? Sorry, Mahiru, it looks like Guren may end up fighting over someone, but it won’t be over you. I’m not quite sure where you got the notion Shinya and Guren were fighting over you to begin with. It seemed more like you were fighting with Guren’s friends over Guren himself. Or maybe you and your brother, Kureto were fighting over Guren? Shinoa had a touching moment of vulnerability after the revelation about her family, poor Shinoa. For expressing all of this in prose and artwork in a style which makes eager for the next volume, I give this four stars.
