Hard to Resist #1

Rate this book
Το νέο best seller σύμφωνα με τους New York Times και to USA Today. Άριστη βαθμολογία από τους αναγνώστες του Amazon.

Δεν διαλέγεις το «πότε», δεν διαλέγεις το «πού» και κυρίως δεν διαλέγεις το «ποιον» θα ερωτευθείς. Αυτός είναι ο απαράβατος κανόνας που μάλλον η Χόλιντεΐ Χιούτζες έχει λησμονήσει, καθώς από την πρώτη στιγμή που αντίκρισε τα σέξι χείλη και τους γυμνασμένους κοιλιακούς του Τζακ Ντάλτον έπρεπε να έχει καταλάβει πού πάει να μπλέξει. Το καυστικό του χιούμορ, οι φαρδείς του ώμοι και το εξωπραγματικά ωραίο του πρόσωπο την τραβούν σαν μαγνήτης και, πριν καλά-καλά προλάβει να συνειδητοποιήσει τι της συμβαίνει, ξυπνά δίπλα στον γοητευτικό Τζακ. Ο αλαζονικός, αυτάρεσκος και απαιτητικός του χαρακτήρας την κάνει να νιώθει μία αρχέγονη έλξη που δεν έχει νιώσει ποτέ ξανά. Όμως ο Τζακ έχει και μία άλλη, κρυφή και σκοτεινή, πλευρά, μία πλευρά που μάχεται να κρύψει και η Χόλιντεί βρίσκεται διχασμένη ανάμεσα σε αυτά που ξέρει και σε αυτά που θέλει να ανακαλύψει. Όσο περισσότερο όμως προσπαθεί να απομακρυνθεί, τόσο πιο πολύ τον ερωτεύεται. Άραγε ο μυστηριώδης άντρας νιώθει το ίδιο ή Χόλιντεΐ θα βρεθεί για άλλη μία φορά προδομένη;

4.5 STARS!!!

It's probably best to NOT read any reviews and just go into the book completely blind like I did so you can experience the full impact of everything. When you're done come chat with me :)

description

I know my limits when it comes to books and there is one type of book I absolutely will not read anymore. I loathe angst and try to avoid it all costs and this kind of book theme paves the way for the maximum amount of angst (and I mean more than cheating and love triangles could ever bring). What do you know...The Resistance ends up being this kind of book.

description

If I had known ahead of time would I have read this? NO.

But do I regret reading this? NO.

However, when I found out around 22% I was beyond pissed. Pissed that a vague blurb roped me into this kind of story I had previously vowed never to read again because of the high angst levels. The prologue and the short quotes at the beginning of each chapter made no fucking sense. Combined with a never-ending sex fest for the first 21% (which by the way I can't stand all sex, no story) I was ready to DNF and move on.

What can I say?

description

I am so darn grateful I didn't stop reading.

The writing is incredible. It's like a Godiva chocolate I pop in my mouth and slowly savor, not wanting it to end anytime soon.

The characters are achingly real. They aren't just words on paper; they seem to take a life form of their own and they go straight for the heart.

And most importantly and impressively (to me), the sex and the story complemented each other perfectly. I'd say a good 50% of the book was sex and that usually is a huge turnoff for me. But look closely and behind the sex, there is a story, and an extremely well-written and intricately weaved one at that.

For me, this reading experience was very atypical and personal. Nowadays, I rarely read books with this kind of theme and for me to not only read it but thoroughly enjoy it gives weight to how unique the story is. You will probably be annoyed and confused in the beginning. You'll probably roll your eyes too. But let the book confuse you. Let the characters piss you off. Because in the end, they'll make it up to you.

"You showed me Heaven.
And you gave me Hell."

What can I say? I loved everything about this one. I loved Dalton. I loved Holliday. Yes, the story itself wasn't necessarily anything new but the way it unfolds had me sighing, holding my breath and growling in anger.

Holliday is in Vegas for work when she meets Jack Dalton at the bar. I loved how they met and their first interaction together. Jack claims to work for the hotel in order to get more info on Holliday.

Holliday was super snarky and I loved it. Holliday and Dalton really had great banter thoughout the whole book.

They end up spending the weekend together, getting to know each other.

Dalton had a dark side that Holliday was drawn to. They become consumed with each other, even after their weekend in Vegas ends.

“Don’t ever lose yourself in somebody else…It’s hard to remember who you used to be if they disappear.”

Holliday tries to navigate through that darker side of Dalton. She tries to fit in to that part of him.

It's hard to say much without giving the story away. And the blurb is very vague and doesn't even begin to give a true respresentation of what's buried inside. There were some nice twists and turns that kept me intrigued.

I had a few

moments with Holliday. But overall I really liked both MCs. And Danny...well Danny

IDK....hot sex and great banter can make a book for me and this one had both....plus a nice little story on the side.

Three F words epitomize this book for me:
♠ fornicating
♠ fighting
♠ food

These three things were what made up 95% of the story. Dalton and Holli spent most of their time going at it like rabbits but they did have some fights and when all else failed they would eat.

Holli's best friend, Tracy, summed up the book for me with two statements:
"You had sex with a rock and I need to live vicariously."
"You two do it like rabbits."

A low/medium angst book with a lot of sexy times centering around a rock star who meets a business owner in a Vegas bar.
"Dare to dream. For without dreams, we have nothing to look forward to."

"Be my angel. Just for the night."

When I first started reading The Resistance I had no idea what to expect. The blurb is kind of vague and I think that might be a good thing, to read this story without knowing too much about the synopsis beforehand. If I'd have to categorize this book I'd say it had a bit of a rock star romance, a bit of erotica and a lot of NA angst and tension. Still, there's no cheating, no love triangle and Jack Dalton may very well be my new favorite book boyfriend!

"When it comes to bad boys, I've always been a sucker when accompanied by a handsome face and sweet gestures. And I have a feeling Jack Dalton is a very bad boy."

Holliday Hughes and Jack Dalton meet each other one night in Vegas and one thing quickly leads to another. After their chance meeting they pretty much feel an instant connection and decide to hook up for the rest of the weekend. But once the weekend is over, will they be able to move on like nothing ever happened or will they both want more than just a few nights together?

Told mostly from Holliday's POV we follow the slowly developing love story between two people who seemingly live in two completely different worlds, but who exist in their own impenetrable bubble when they're together where they compliment each other perfectly. He teaches her to live a bit on the wilde side and live life to the fullest and she brings him peace and symbolizes the light in his otherwise dark existence.

"I've got a dark side that slaughters hopes and dreams on a daily basis." - Dalton

Something that did bother me a bit was that I didn't really *feel* the connection between Dalton and Holliday. I mean sure they had lots and lots of sex, but beyond that? They barely knew each other and during the first 60% of the book that's the way it stayed. After that they started to *really* get to know each other better and I found their feelings for each other become more believable. Still, for me to give 5 stars I want their to be more tangible romance and deeper feelings instead of just passion between the sheets for more than half of the story.

"You've always been in here," he says, patting his chest over his heart. "We just hadn't met yet."

Overall, this was a fairly quick, sexy, fun, drama-filled read with a strong, independent heroine and a swoon worthy, rock star hero. There was a bit of angst but not so much that it makes you want to throw your kindle against the wall, just enough to keep the story from becoming too predictable. This was my first book by this author but I'm looking forward to reading more of her work in the future!

Standalone - no cliffhanger.

First off I want to say that if Bruce or Brandon came up to me in bar, I would like to think I would recognize them. Yes? No?

Fitted jean, black shirt, leather wristband…

The two main characters meet in Vegas. The first 65% of the book was a bit slow. Boy meets girl, boy fucks girl, boy wants to be nice to girl, boy likes girl, boy fucks girl… ya get my drift.

He’s and arrogant son of a bitch, but I’m starting to think that small dimple in his chin gives him that right.

Then around 68% or thereabouts SOMETHING happens to sort of turn the book. It was a bit of an eye rolling moment for me. I sort of thought what a cliché…. Rock-star… blah, blah, blah.

”Your life is a tornado, destroying everything it its path.”

Ok, this event did affect Jack/Dalton/Johnny/Outlaw… but he was a bit of a prick a few times.

What’s not to love about a rocker with a bad temper, sexy tattoos and a hot ass?

Not a bad read overall. Could have been a bit shorter, especially the first part, thought it was a tad repetitive.

BLURB:
You don't choose when.
You don't choose where.
And you don't get to choose who you fall in love with.

The minute he opened his sexy mouth, Holliday Hughes should have known Jack Dalton was trouble. His smooth pickup lines, broad shoulders, and ridiculously handsome face charmed her right out of her clothes. She gave into her desires, the instant attraction blinding her to the obvious.

One night. That was all it took for Holliday's world to be flipped on its axis. Jack Dalton was cocky. Smug. Volatile. Demanding. He ignited something deep inside her like no other, but there was something more to this brooding bad boy. There was a dark side to him she couldn't help but be drawn to.

Torn between what she knew about him and a mysterious side he tried to hide, could she walk away or was he simply too hard to resist?

Jack and Holli meet at a conference and hit it off. But there is something mysterious about Jack that has Holli falling hard and fast.

This story isnt that much different to other similar books Ive read and the insta love was hard to look past as I sit there thinking "where is their connection and romance ?". Granted there was some good banter. The sex scenes and writing wasnt anything special. I felt more invested in the story after halfway.

It turned out to be an okay but easily forgettable book. I would recommend this if you enjoy a book with a good amount of sex and banter.

* * * * Spoiler Free
What do you do when you have an opportunity to have a real conversation with a beautiful woman... possibly even more...Do you take advantage of it...connect and feel as if the only thing that is happening is the two of you for the moment...

This is the question and basis of how Jack Dalton meets Holliday Hughes in Vegas. These two see something in each other....a type of truth and share more of themselves expecting, at first to live up to the "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas", but then the tables turn and more is needed. The chemistry is not the only thing which is cooking...

Oh, this is a quandary for both and we get to be in each character's head.

Holliday /Holli is a successful creative marketing person. She invented a character that now has a life of its own with gifs, commercial representation, and t-shirts. She works and lives in Los Angeles, proud of her accomplishments. She is in Vegas for a business conference. She steps away from the boredom for a breather by going to the hotel bar. When she is carded by the bartender, she realizes her ID is back at the conference table. The server was about to give her the drink but another man states he works with the hotel and insists he sees her ID. Frustrated...she returns throwing the card at him and just wanting her drink. The man still continues talking with her.... so sure of himself. With Holliday realizing she was played and he now knows her information...the banter begins.

We get to hear and be teased just like Holliday... the words, whispers, and promises of what would happen for the night... This man, this Jack Dalton...has an air about him... and Holliday is ready, open, and equally strong drawing him in.

The night is a roller coaster of moments...some fantastic... others a bit confusing. Dalton gets a call and must leave quickly causing a bad taste for each...Holliday is a bit confused but goes through all the stages and let's go of it all... until Dalton reaches out, asks for another chance to fix things. Again, she is in Vegas... will never have another opportunity to just be with no real responsibilities...so she decides to give it a go.

These two are together in their hermetically sealed bubble of sexual chemistry, emotional interest in each other, and playing the careful dance of not pushing for too much deep revealing information.

He tells her he wants more than a weekend.
She begins to think maybe she deserves to have this.
They both plan to talk more and see how to make things transfer from Vegas to Los Angeles and then.....secrets become exposed.

I happened to enjoy this. The writing took me by the hand and gave me a tale that kept me entertained. I happened to figure out early the "secret" but it didn't bother me in the least....and as to why Holliday didn't figure it out at first... I think sometimes when we are not looking for something... we can not see what is right there in front of our face.

This is a very sexy read with ah hmmmm a lot of sexy times...and a story of how not to lose yourself when life can get out of hand. We always think famous stars, actors, musicians, etc. have it made....but we forget what they give up in exchange; today more than ever due to social media and camera phones...The stress level of just going for a walk or shopping for food if they wanted is immense. Images must be maintained; the public must see what they want at all times... the look, swagger, and attitude.

The challenges for loved ones are not easy. They have to balance the egos, the need to have their men to themselves, and not let all that is going on be the main focus of the relationship either. Most importantly, the partners must figure out how to be as equally important in the coupling....to be their own person, to hold themselves in high regard...keeping the famous one at bay sometimes....and making them see they need to work for relationship just as much as the other.
Seriously... it is a wonder with the type of egos and temperament that drove people to have any of them are coupled... because to be true and real when all you hear all the time is how great you are...that takes amazing strength.

I had not read anything by the author and now I will keep my eyes open...

Oh God this is hard... honestly liked the concept and all but, nothing new, nothing to get me hooked. I just didn't connect either to characters or to the story. Found it a bit boring actually. Everything was just only on the surface, no debt at all. No dramatic scenes (which is what you expect with rockstars), so when something really meh (for me) happened, the drama was a bit over the top. I just missed lots of stuff. I missed background stories about friends that are all the time there, next to them. And the main couple was frustrating when they weren't sweet...gaaahhhh.. It just didn't deliver for me. I was detached all the time while reading it. But I see lots of people will like it and I hope that will happen because it's not the book, it's me.

“What's not to love about a rocker

The Resistance is what I like to call a modern fairytale. Girl goes to Vegas, meets hot rockstar - and doesn't recognise him at first -

falls in love and in the end they ride off into the sunset together. Maybe it's a storyline you heard before, but that doesn't make this book less enjoyable.

It all starts with a one night stand. But one night turns into more and somehow neither Holli nor Dalton is able to end "this thing" between them.

I really liked both MC's. Holli was strong and independent. And Dalton was just THE perfect hot & damaged, mysterious bad boy *sigh*

Throw in some drama and angst and you find a very happy ANJA ;)

“I’ve got a dark side that slaughters hopes and dreams on a daily basis.”

Jenny: Well didn’t this book take us by surprise a few times Gitte, and in a really good way I might add. The prologue grabbed me immediately, I inhaled every word and the author had me engrossed and falling in love with Dalton, Holliday and their story from the get go. And..We’re not giving anything away about this story because surprise is the element here!

“You’ve always been in here,” he says, patting his chest over his heart. “We just hadn’t met yet.”

Cue the happy face right about now because I absolutely loved The Resistance. What about you?

Gitte: Oh wow, I bloody loved this one. I fell in love with all the characters, loved the surprises and twists. Loved the writing; the emotion conveyed through the words to me, the reader.

“Be my angel. Just for the night.” – Dalton

I just couldn’t put this one down I was quite simply swept away in the story of Dalton and Holliday.

Jenny: Holliday and Dalton were such refreshing characters. The story, though we’ve read this theme a few times, felt quite different and completely enthralled me. Holliday was so strong, loving, beautiful, successful and so forthright. No back and forth procrastinating with this woman. She wore her heart on her sleeve and she never caused me a minute of frustration.

“I can’t battle your demons, Dalton.” – Holliday

She was a perfect balance for the volatile, troubled and loving Dalton don’t you think Gitte?

Gitte: Absolutely, as you say we’ve read similar stories before, but this one felt unique. The context and symbolism so enticing and heartfelt.

“Dare to dream….For without dreams we have nothing to look forward to.” – Holliday

The romance evoked such strong emotions in me. Holliday was definitely a strong female character; she was real and no-nonsense. Her strength was immeasurable; her support and her sense of self inspiring.

Jenny: Jack Dalton. Wow! What can we say about this beautiful, tortured and conflicted man? I loved him! He was divine and L S Scott brought Dalton, with all his demons, secrets, passion and insecurities to life so vividly. Dalton certainly stole heart. I believed him. I felt every emotion he felt and as much as he tried me a few times, my heart really went out to him as he out to him as he struggled to come to grips with who he was and the feelings he was experiencing.

“You see my flaws and my good side. You see who I am, not just what others want me to be.” – Dalton

There were a few surprises and twists along the way in this fantastic read that I couldn’t put down. Passion, romance, swooning, lots of heat, a gorgeous book boyfriend and a strong relatable heroine. A definite recommend from me and I really hope we hear more from Dalton & Holliday because I didn’t want to say goodbye, and more Danny too don’t you think Gitte?

Gitte: Oh, Dalton owned my heart whilst I was with him; I went through every emotion he did and I understood his pain, his struggle and his desire for normalcy; his want of pure untainted love. Love in its basic form, free of pre-conceptions and labels. A love that came in the form of a girl who believed in herself and demanded to be heard, respected and loved. A girl who saw past a façade, past the imperfect to see the -truth- the perfection and the love.

“Don’t ever lose yourself in somebody else…It’s hard to remember who you used to be if they disappear.”

I have to say I felt sad to let them all go, Jenny. And absolutely, I hope we hear more, especially from Danny too!! Danny needs his man-card back! ♥

I’m going to try and keep this review, short and sweet. With a bit of vague thrown in there.

Anyone who knows me, knows I hate spoilers, and won’t read reviews on a book before I have read it so that it’s all a surprise.

I will tell you that, S.L Scott has a reason that the synopsis is vague.

When it all unravels it will be worth the surprise. (I will tell you that I cried at one stage, and peeps that’s hard to make me do!)

So I ask you. Do you like
• Sex
• Angst
• Surprise twists
• Hot Sex
• Angst
• Kickass independent heroines
• Sweaty messy Sex
• Cocky but oh so hot Heros
• Down and dirty Sex
• Well written stories
• Just plain hot Sex
• Flanter (flirty banter)
• Romance
• HEA’s

If you have answered yes to at least of 3 of the above. I highly recommend this book.
It’s different. I will tell you that.
Did the heroine piss me off? OF COURSE SHE DID! We need her and him to do stupid shit so that we will have more story though!
I haven’t read anything else by this author but I think I will be!

This book is for those that love love. It's a rock romance that is different from the rest and it will take you on a ride that you will love from the start. Jack Dalton and Holliday Hughes are sinfully sexy together. The banter between these too is fun and romantic, filthy and sexy. And most of all real.

I couldn't get enough of these two and even though there were parts that tore me apart, the journey was worth every bit of angst I felt in the end.

3.5 Rock Stars

Holliday is a typical girl and Jack is a famous rock star. The two meet and spend a crazy night together.

The summary is pretty basic, but that’s really it. Holliday and Jack meet and have crazy wild sex. She at first doesn’t know Jack is famous and it’s super cute. I know it’s always unrealistic when the Heroine doesn’t recognize a famous Hero, but I like it.

Jack doesn’t do relationships and Holliday is okay with that. She figures when is this ever going to happen? I’m with her, if a famous rocker wanted to get it on, I would say, heck yeah! So there’s that, but after one night Jack just can’t let Holliday go.

He starts to open up to her and Holliday takes the breadcrumbs. But like Jack said he can’t do relationships because he never has.

I’m not a major fan of Jack. I think he’s kind of mean and really self-centered. It irritated me when he would sign and greet his fans while Holliday kind of stood off to the side. I get it’s his job, but it just didn’t sit right with me.

I liked Holliday, I thought she was strong and really patient. I didn’t feel like she let herself get taken advantage of, but she did put up with a lot with Jack. The relationship was very up and down and it moved fairly quickly. I think I would have liked a little bit of tension in the beginning.

Overall, Resistance was a decent read. It had the rocker theme and a very broody Hero. I think I had a problem with the writing flow.

I felt the Heroine and Hero were to instant-lust too quickly.

The relationship dragged a bit towards the middle

Then the middle-end was a bit dramatic with all the stuff happening to Jack and his band and oh I have an issue with drugs. I’m just not a fan of reading it.

I wanted Jack to be a bit more protective and less self-involved. However, I did have cover love (I know, shame on me, but it’s true) and I’m not going to stop reading Scott’s books.

I am happy to announce that I am giving this book an award of one of the most ridiculous rock-star encounters ever.
description

She met him at the bar and didn't recognize him as a rock-star.
description

He asked her for her ID, because he is an undercover security guard hired by hotel to check whether everybody drinking are at least 21-years old. Note: She believes him!
description

After one drink, he took her to the penthouse, saying that his access to the penthouse is one of the perks of his job. Note: she still think he is a undercover security guard.
description

I actually thought she understood that he was just messing with her, and since she just wanted to sleep with him, it was okay that he was lying his ass off. BUT, no, that wasn't the case. She actually believed that he is an undercover security guard hired by hotel, living in a penthouse.
description

Later, one of her friends 'suddenly' got a free tickets for The Resistance concert and OHHHHH NOOOOOO looks like the security guard is actually a rock star.
description

I was hoping this would be a good rock-star romance book, but it really wasn't. DNF. 40% was enough for me. The book is super cliche and very predictable!

I know I am reading a contemporary romance novel, but I still expect some elements of realism or at least a small factor of believability.

Wow, I really liked this story. I'm not a huge rockstar book fan, but this one hit the spot!

Holliday, a successful entrepreneur, runs into Dalton at a convention in Vegas. He leads her to believe he's a security guard, questioning her at the bar to get a hold of her ID. They banter back and forth and it quickly leads to a night of laughter, companionship, and passion. A one night stand that neither wants to keep that way. Their chemistry is explosive. Holliday brings something out in Dalton he's been missing...his true self. Yes, this is because she doesn't know WHO he is to the world... Johnny Outlaw, the famous lead guitarist to the band a The Resistance. He revels in this time they have together, him being Jack Dalton, not the famous masked Johnny Outlaw. But his secrets can only be kept so long...

But until then, they enjoy each other, unable to get enough.

Dalton had issues with...ripping panties. OMG. Hot hot hot.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Can these two make it when Holli finds out his true identity? Is she up for a lifestyle of rockstar paparazzi stalking? She has a career she wants to keep in the forefront. Not hide behind his fame. Dalton has huge demons he fights and Holliday is his Angel in the darkness. Can he hold onto her without scaring her away at the same time?

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Loved this book! It had a great balance of steam, intrigue, and great storyline. There were a few areas that got a bit ho hum and anti-climatic but it was an all-around awesome book I'd highly recommend for those who love rock books, good sex scenes, and a tortured hero.

Looking forward to more from this author.

And I thank you,

Just wasn't my cup of tea although the rock star was a hottie!

Insta-love, silly heroine, express in every way def not mine. Pretty similar story lines too.
Worse was I couldn't feel their chemistry -- blame Karina Halle for her fab writing in Love, In English!

What can I say...I love angst, I love good heat, and I really love a rock star with questionable behavior and baggage!

Johnny Outlaw is the lead vocals of the Resistance...surrounded by screaming fans and paparazzi, he has lived the rock and roll life hard and plenty!

A chance meeting with a sassy, professional gal in a Vegas bar gives him an opportunity to stash "Johnny Outlaw" and just be himself. Holliday Hughes has worked hard and just wants a brief escape away from all the drama but her times is filled with cheesy come-ons from groping men. When "Jack Dalton" pushes her buttons and challenges her with wit and sex appeal she concedes to her libido! What neither was expecting was the off the charts sexual chemistry and connection that they were able to create with ease.

Learning "Dalton" is more that just some one night stand, Holli has to come to grips with his life and all the drama associated. He too has to adjust to the sudden want and need for just one woman.

For these two the love and lust is easy...its the actual relationship that is somewhat up in the air!

This is one of those reads that could easily go either way for many. I loved every single thing about Jack Dalton. He was hot and cold, aggressive yet romantic, fiercely possessive then aloof. He was a rock star dammit! As for Miss Holli...

I loved her need for him. Dalton made her hot and horny and she was always willing...a bit much, but hey, Rock Sar, remember? I do wish Holli would have kept some of her sass and independence that she displayed in the first 25% of the book! Also...what is up with the continual cycle of SEX-EAT-SEX-SLEEP-SEX? I mean wow that is brilliant fiction right there, lol!

I will say that their story was a bit typical with womanizing rocker falls for common woman...different lifestyles and needs all create major drama and angst. Throw in some heartbreak and miscommunication a healthy dose of mistrust and jealousy and you have a messy situation!

Geeze, good thing these two are so horny for one another and for good friends who recognize true love or Dalton and Holli may never have made it back to vegas!!!!

5 Stars!!

This is the first book I've read by S.L. Scott and I absolutely loved it! The writing was beautiful, the story line was amazing, and the characters were amazing!

This is one of those books where you can't really do a proper review without giving away spoilers and I don't want to spoil this story for anyone so I'm going to express how I felt while reading it.

I had seen several of my reading buddies who I trust religiously on recommendations talking about The Resistance and I had got the ARC for being part of the blog tour. I could't wait to start reading it! And my friends were correct as usual! Holliday is one of those lead female characters that you can love! She just doesn't stand by and let things happen. She makes them happen, if it's something she wants she goes for it!

"So let me ask you, do you want to keep your bra and panties?"
"I-"
"Shhh. If you say yes to keeping them, I'll be nice. I'll make your fantasy Prince Charming come to life while we make love. But if you say no, I'll rip them to shreds and fuck you so hard you'll never forget I was here," he says as he cups me between the legs and squeezes.
"Choose wisely."
"There is no choice. Rip'em."

Dalton is the lead male and let me tell you ladies, you will want to meet Jack Dalton aka Johnny Outlaw. I loved every single thing about him. I'm sure we will be seeing him on many book boyfriend battles very soon!!

Dex is the asshole in this book. But you couldn't help but like him. I loved how he didn't sugar coat anything.
"Dude, it's a broad." He digs in his pocket and holds up a silver coin. "Dime meet dozen."
I literally LOL'd at that point!

Then we have Rochelle and Cory, they are the couple that everyone loves. I am really sad about some things that happen with them in the story, keep the tissues handy folks!

Here are some more of my favorite quotes

"Block the static and focus on the truth."

"You didn't have to become a firefighter to become a hero."

I highly recommend reading this book!

I will write a more detailed review after the book releases on 4/28, but I must gush about it some now. This is a book for people who love Romance, Sex, Angst, Flirty Banter, and grown up characters. Holliday Hughes is someone I would be friends with. Self-assured, successful, smart, with life experience makes for a fantastic female lead. Jack Dalton is a man of few words, but what he does say……SWOON!! There are a few surprise twists in this one and can't wait to see what everyone thinks!!

Title:The Resistance
Series:Standalone
Author: S.L. Scott
Release Date: April 28, 2014
Rating:4 stars
Cliffhanger:No
HEA:

Las Vegas.
One weekend.
An angel.
A demon.
Lust.
Yearning.
Hunger.

Holliday, an internet entrepreneur and Dalton, a mysterious man with bad boy written all over him. Their paths collide in Vegas on weekend and their worlds are about to completely change. When their eyes connect across a room they're immediately drawn to each other. There's a darkness in his eyes that tell her she should stay far away but she just can't seem to do it. They have a natural ease with one another right from the start. Their sense of humor, their strange emotional connection, is pulling them closer but it can only ever be this one, passion filled weekend. Can they just give each other what the other needs? Just for now?

We're a couple of people in lust where he can be my demon and I'll be his angel for the night.

They tell themselves that it can't ever come of anything. But there's this undeniable feeling that neither of them can ignore. He's in a place in his life where he feels pretty lost and cynical but this blonde haired vixen could be the angel to pull him back into the light. She's bold, she's honest, and she's like no one he's ever met in his life. She's real.

"I told everyone I would be a hero one day."
"You still can be."
"How? Do you know someone who needs saving?"
His gaze penetrates deep. "Yeah, I might know someone."

I really liked these two together. He's a rockstar on the road and she's an independent, self-reliant woman who has her life and her growing business planned out. They don't seem to have much of a possibility of making this long lasting, but after the emotions that are stirred up that weekend, they don't really have much of a choice. What they've found together isn't easy to find, and they're not ready to admit defeat. The craving and the hunger that they have for each other is so real you can feel it. I absolutely devoured every hot scene in this book.

After they get back to their real lives, they stay connected and they have to work hard to keep going strong. His band is in self-destruct mode, it's rife with women, parties, drugs, and alcohol and he's fast losing his patience with his old way of life. I have to give it to him, with all the temptations thrown at him daily, he never betrays her-he travels across continents even if it's just for the chance to see her for one or two days. He's committed and hooked on her like an addict. And whenever they reconnect, they pick up right where they left off.

They're crazy about each other, but will they be able to make it through everything thrown at them?

I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't anything completely unique-I've definitely read the Badboy Rocker theme many times but it was well written, the heroine didn't get on my nerves, and I really felt all the emotions and passion. Dalton made some idiotic, jealous moves from time to time, but I gave him a little room for error considering his lack of experience in relationships. He was so used to everything being handed to him and not having to work for anything, that considering, I felt he didn't do too bad. By the end of the book, they completely get their acts together and they're committed-hearts, minds, and bodies. This was my first read by S.L. Scott and it won't be my last.

description

Black heart (cards)

Another new addition to the TBR!!

One night. That was all it took for Holliday’s world to be flipped on its axis.

This was a great rock star read.

The story is about Holliday and Jack Dalton. Jack is a rock star and Holliday is establishing her business further. I loved how Holliday and Jack met, if was really good. It had me laughing and chuckling at my kindle at times. The pair meet in Vegas at a conference Holliday is attending. There is instance chemistry and connection when they meet.
The story didn’t fell like your typical rock star read, Jack has a dark side mysterious side to him and right from the beginning I was trying to work out Jack. Holliday seems too drawn to Jack and she brings the best out in him. I loved Jack, he is high up on my list of book boyfriends.

The book has everything from love, romance, drama and lots of hot steamy sex. It made me laugh at times, it made me cry and it made me smile.

Overall a great hot steamy sexy rock star romance story that I really enjoyed. This is the first book I have read by S.L Scott and will be looking to read her other books in the near future.

Since I'm always looking for my next favorite author or my next favorite series, I have a lot of books by authors I haven't read before. This is one of those books.
While it is well written, it is not one I had an easy time reading. It just *lagged too much for me.
However, I would like to say, if you enjoy New Adult books that are very well written in the Rock Band type of story, you will very much like this one. Just remember it does 'Lag'. It is a good representation of a 'Between' book. What I mean by that is it is written in a 'Young Adult/New Adult' style.
*Lagged ~ comparative slowness, a space of time especially between related events or phenomena

I read this book a few weeks ago, and I have never put a review off as much as I have this one. Why? Because there is no way I can put into words how much I truly, seriously, completely fell in love with this book. I’ve been a fan of S.L. Scott’s writing for a long time now (ahem, Evan’s Number One Side Thing), and now I’m so proud of her over this book. The Resistance is unlike any of her other books. Unique in plot, flawless in writing, raw in characters, steamy as all get out in love scenes, and overall a captivating read that will have you falling in love every step of the way.

“I place my hand on his chest to feel, without him knowing, if he’s having the same reaction. His hand covers mine, and he whispers, “I feel lit.” When I look into his eyes, I see his every intention clearly set…”

I love how Dalton and Holliday are straight with each other. Well, maybe not completely straight about everything in the beginning, but you know what I mean. They know from first sight they are attracted to one another, and they aren’t afraid to act on it. I really can’t say much plot-wise without ruining the book. The blurb is cryptic for a reason. I say, don’t read any reviews. Trust the lickable cover and dive into it. You won’t be disappointed, I promise. Yes, I’m being cryptic. It’s on purpose. I don’t want to take away from the reading experience even if I already guessed it before it happened. Figuring out what this book is about is one of the best parts (besides the fantastic sex), because just when you think you have the whole book pegged—BAM! Plot twist and the story becomes even better.

“You see beneath all this. You see the real me.”
“I only see what you give me, Dalton.”
“Lies. All lies. You’re wiser and more observant than you let on. I know this because I watch you too.”

Dalton is one of the most complicated heroes I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. And one of the sexiest. I have decided that every book hero needs to be able to rip the heroine’s panties off, because wow *fans myself*. In the beginning, I was with Holliday and very dubious of his intentions. I’m not one for insta-love, but that’s not what this story is. It’s an instant lust, sure, but the relationship slowly forms—and it’s fantastic the whole ride. Dalton is cocky, mysterious, and blunt. I feel like Dalton has been misunderstood most of his life, from his family to his “lifestyle”, and then Holliday comes along and sees right through him and turns his life inside out. He spirals up and down with his emotions, but never once did I doubt his loyalty and love to Holliday. He has issues, yes, there are lots of angsty issues, but that’s one of the things that makes his characters so real—he isn’t perfect. He ripped my heart out, made me swoon, made me laugh, made me surrender myself to him, and basically I am now Dalton’s Number One Side Thing too (sorry, Evan).

“Here, together, we don’t have pasts that scar us or baggage that weighs us down with burdens and regrets. Here, together, our flawed souls find solace in each other. Here, together, we make sense.”

I think Holliday has to be one of my favorite heroines. She never annoyed me or made me mad, which is one of my biggest problems with heroines these day. She was successful, because she owned her own business (which was very creative). She was smart and level-headed—and she chose to be single. In a way, she reminded me a lot of myself and when her best friend is giving her a speech about pushing Dalton away for selfish reasons, it really hit hard. Holliday quickly became Dalton’s rock and she was always challenging him with her wit and smart-mouth. She grounded him and it was fantastic to see them form a camaraderie that was so comfortable and also highly entertaining.

“Thank you, Holliday.”
“For being my inspiration.”
“I’ve always wanted to be someone’s muse.”
“You’ve always been in here,” he says patting his chest over his heart. “We just hadn’t met yet.”

Because of the way the story was so well-written and wonderfully developed, I seriously felt the emotion of every word, space, and period. It was an amazing journey. Dalton and Holliday’s story is so unique and captivating, I read it all in three hours. I couldn’t put it down. The sex scenes were frequent and scorching hot! Even if they were constantly going at it, I never felt like they were repetitive or boring. Every time I flipped to a page where they were getting on all I could do was drool. Holliday is one lucky girl.

“We kiss. We kiss and like the thousands of kisses we’ve shared before, there’s an unbridled passion that stirs within. He’s more than I expected, more than I dreamed possible, and I adore him—body, heart, and soul. Jack Dalton owns me, cherishing me while devouring me equally.”

Their relationship was perfect, it was just the situations that they were put in that made me tense. I loved their banter and their effortless chemistry together. I loved watching them be put through the wringer only to emerge stronger than ever. They are one of my favorite book couples. This book had all the points I needed to make it one of my favorite books of the year. I can’t even stress how much I think everyone needs to read The Resistance. This is a story about falling in love, letting life happening, and figuring out what you want. Pick it up. Seriously. It will change your life. Be prepared to swoon, laugh hysterically, cry your eyes out, die, fan yourself, rip your panties off, and fall in love.

“I’m going to kiss you.”
“You’re warning me?”
“No. I’m making you a promise. The next time I kiss you, it’s gonna be the first kiss of our forever.”
“Dalton?”
“Yeah?”
“Kiss me now.”

oh that was painful 1.5* rounded up just because of the condom use.

I am not kidding. The very best thing about this book was that he wanted to have sex when the condom was too far away (2 min walk into house) and she refused. Saying that such a decision should not be made in the heat of the moment. There were a few times in the middle of the book where she was standing up for herself and I thought maybe the book could be improving. but then it took a nosedive and got even worse than the first part.

Holli meats a man at a bar in Vegas. Despite his horrific pick up line she goes to his room and they have sex. By the end of the weekend they have had sex 5 times and she has discovered that he is a famous rock musician. They decide to meet again. This takes an inordinate percentage of the book. Seriously way way too much time on what is basically a fuck fest. Conversation is stilted and I could not buy into them feeling any sort of non-genital connection. It was so tedious.

Things got a bit better when she gets home and they try to have a relationship while he tours with the band and she stays in LA running her business. Tragedy strikes the band and Dalton is a mess. He treats her like shit and she tells him to get lost. There is no communication and then he shows up and they get married the next night. There is absolutely no discussion of her needs. The condom issue goes poof. His violent jealousy is not discussed. her need to have her job respected is not mentioned. They just join the mile high club and get hitched.

Months later he takes her to meet his parents. We finally learn about his demons with his father. He walks away from that (as he should have) with his mum saying telling him to come visit again. Umm lady your husband is abusive and you should get your ass out to visit him. But somehow magically mum and dad show up at his show to watch him some months later. There is nothing that said this was likely at all. Just a magical HEA.

the writing was dull and words were misused. I will be very careful about reading anything by this author again.
