Asher Savage, you’ve probably heard of him. He was in that boy band until they broke up then he went totally off the rails. He wouldn’t even be on my radar except my editor offered me the ultimate bribe, working with the rock star of my dreams, if I spend a week photographing Savage’s come back. I’ll take the job but it’ll be pure hell until I get my reward. Savage’s charms will never work on me. **
Women dream of me. Hell, they name their vibrators after me! I’d never met a woman who hadn’t fallen at my feet, until I got stuck with this hardass photographer. Alice Cain, she thinks she’s way too good for me, and God knows, she’s probably right. But I need her on side for my come back to be a success and I need her in my bed if I want to keep my ego intact. She will be mine.
Candy J. Starr used to be a band manager until she realised that the band she managed was so lacking in charisma that they actually sucked the charisma out of any room they played. “Screw you,” she said, leaving them to wallow in obscurity – totally forgetting that they owed her big bucks for video equipment hire.
Candy has filmed and interviewed some big names in the rock business, and a lot of small ones. She’s seen the dirty little secrets that go on in the back rooms of band venues. She’s seen the ugly side of rock and the very pretty one.
I’m going to be completely honest with you here – I was worried about this one. It sounded wonderful, yet I have a real love-hate relationship with musician based romance stories. I always expect such big things from them, and quite often they fail to deliver. Thus, whilst Come Back sounded wonderful, I was tentative.
Fortunately, I had no reason to fear. Come Back was a positively wonderful read. In fact, I’d go so far as to label it my favourite musician based romance story to date. There’s no doubt that in the future I will be looking towards Candy J. Starr for my future musician romances – this woman knows how to write a romance in this genre, and I will certainly be picking up her prior books to fulfil my future musician based cravings.
In this one, we get to deal with two sides of the entertainment industry. Our male lead is in the spotlight, our musician; our female lead is behind the camera, the photographer. I’m sure many are thinking such a romance has been done before, yet none I have read has ever had the same impact upon me as this book. Within pages, I was addicted, completing this book in a couple of hours, unable to put it down until I found out how everything played out.
Both our characters were wonderful, developing in brilliant ways as the story progressed. Each new bit of information that comes about leaves you loving them more, leaves you wanting more of their story. Alone, they are great characters; together, they are fabulous. Their interactions are magnificent, the way they go together amazing, and they’re so pure to watch. No matter what was going on, I had all of the feels. I fell in love with them both, and everything that happened left me with a wide range of emotions.
One of my personal preferences did leave me a little bit disheartened with this story, though. I love slow burn romances, and the entire story took place in a very short period of time. They meet, they overcome their biased views, they experience drama, and they fall in love, all within the space of a week. Due to this, there were times when I was rolling my eyes at the speed of things. For me, it felt like too much. I can understand developing some kind of feeling in such a short time period, but I felt as though things were too extreme considering how little they knew of each other.
Nonetheless, I loved the story. Our characters were wonderful, and the story was equally great. There was all the drama you would expect from the entertainment industry, and the ending in particular will leave you wanting more. Know before you go into this book that you will have to read book two. The ending leaves you with many questions regarding how things will play out, and I’m so excited to pick up Come Closer to see what comes of the events given to us at the end of this one.
Without a doubt, this was a superb read. I’ll be reading more of the author’s work – not just Come Closer (but, obviously, that will be very high up on my list once it is released) but also the author’s previous work.
Blurb: Asher Savage, you’ve probably heard of him. **

But I need her on side for my come back to be a success and I need her in my bed if I want to keep my ego intact. She will be mine.
I was very happy to find out that the next book is less than three weeks away. Former boy band star Ash Savage is about to relaunch his career as a rock artist, performing his songs and stage show without the manufactured garbage of his past. He is still perceived as a bad boy in the press, but when a photographer is assigned to help create his new image, he still wants to be bad, with her. Alice agrees to photograph Ash for one week if it means her next assignment is going on a month long tour with her crush rocker Kit Malloy. Ash is nothing Alice expected. I really liked Ash and Alice did grow on me, their relationship while fast did have a ring of truth to it. The star with the expectations and the photographer trying to be realistic. I hope Candy J Starr doesn't make them suffer too much for their HEA. Tune in July 28th
First of all, I would like to thank Candy J. Starr and the team of Xpresso Book Tours for this ARC. It’s my first book from this author. I was attracted by the cover and the synopsis, I really like music romances!
We follow Asher Savage’s come back after a carrier in a boys band when he was a teenager. He tries to make a name in the rock universe, and he will be followed by Alice who’s a music photographer.
The rest is very simple. Asher will fall for the sparkling Alice, especially because she doesn’t flatter his unbounded ego.
I like the author’s writing but the story lacks originality and the plot is too predictable. In brief, a nice music romance to relax without surprises.

The rockstar world is on vivid display in this fast-paced, erotically-charged tale of a former boy-band member trying to make a new name for himself in a hard-fought comeback. Complicating his comeback is a sassy and sexy photographer who's a bit of a music snob and just using this job to get the one with the musician she's always respected. The more time these two spend together the more their preconceived notions are proven wrong and the more attracted they become to one another before life and career gets in the way.
Asher Savage never wanted to be a musician. He just wanted to be a regular kid doing normal kid things. His mother's aspirations though pushed him towards stardom, put him in adult situations, and sold his body and soul for fame he soon came to resent. Years of living up to all the negative press has labeled him an arrogant, drunken, man-whore who walked away from his band in a diva-esque move. Tired of living a life not his own he's now ready to start over, from his music to his image, to be seen as less of a joke and more as a real musician. The moment readers meet Savage he's definitely still living up to his diva persona. He's overly self-assured and hides behind a manufactured facade relying on his sexiness instead of substance. His interactions with women, due to past heartache and betrayal, are of the one-night variety which perpetuates his arrogance in getting what he wants. The moment he meets Alice though his life is turned upside down as she challenges and questions him every step of the way. Being around her makes him feel safe in letting down his walls, has him willing to do whatever it takes to keep her in his life beyond the week her job slated, as he likes the man he's become in her presence. He may have started out a bit of a douche, but by story's end I found myself captivated by the man behind the image and curious to see if he and Alice can find HEA over the long distances.
Alice Cain's always wanted to be a photographer and has finally made a name for herself in the music world for only working with true musicians. She's serious about her career and is resentful at first having to work with Savage, but by doing so she'll get to work with a musician she's always been impressed by. Though her week with Savage starts out rocky he soon starts charming her with glimpses of the man behind the facade. His flirting starts out playful but his sensuality soon has her jumping him whenever she can in scorching encounters that start to take over the story. As their week comes to an end his need to keep her close puts her job in jeopardy just as she discovers once again that a person's reputation doesn't define them in an ending that will leave readers frustrated. Alice is a strong-willed woman who enjoys pushing Savage's buttons. She discounts his talents early on but the time they spend together has her seeing a man full of heart and soul. Just when she gets what she thinks she wants she'll realize the good thing she left behind in an ending that leaves readers counting down the days until the next installment.
This was a quick read full of erotic encounters and misjudgments. Savage hates all those who carry cameras as invasive parasites while Alice only wants to work with REAL musicians. Once they get to know one another though the story heats up as readers get to enjoy a sweet and sensual romance full of witty banter. Theirs is a crackling connection, a sexy tug of war, that kept me invested in them and frustrated by the unnecessary cliffhanger. I enjoyed Savages' evolution, getting to see his heartbreaking background courtesy of his mother's greed, and wish as much time had been spent on Alice. Her character's appealing but not too distinctive which made me appreciate the colorful and complex Savage all the more. From start to finish I found this an entertaining read that didn't need to end with a cliffhanger, and though this frustrated me it won't stop me from gobbling up the next installment once it releases!
I love a good rockstar romance, I mean who doesn't? To live life on the wild side between the covers of a good book without having to get too dirty, is fantabulous!
I wasn't really sure what to think of this book. I had never read anything by Candy J. Starr before, so I am wildly unfamiliar with her work and writing style...and I can't say that I was too disappointed.
I really kind of wanted to hate Asher to begin with. The author did a great job getting me familiar with Alice, and we were tight by the end of chapter three. We had an agenda and Asher Savage was not it...so imagine my surprise when he really was the lead male character and she started falling for him. Girl and I needed to have a talk!
But alas...that Asher used his smooth talkin' and convinced us both that he was all that and a bag of chips! I was all heart eyes and cheering for Asher by the end of chapter ten. Sigh.
You see that cover and where it says Book 1? I clearly wasn't paying attention because at the end I was smacked with a cliffhanger. Don't get me wrong, cliffhangers are great and they have their place...but only when the next book is available I don't have to wait for the rest! Kidding...sort of. I am super impatient and will now be stalking the author for the rest of this story! Sorry in advance!
Quite honestly, I am wavering on how to rate this story. It is a solid 4 for me...but I am leaning toward a 5 and I will tell you why. As much as I hate cliffhangers...I'm intrigued by what book two has to offer, and because book one has me hooked, hungover and looking for my cure, that 5th star seems like it is well deserved.
Having read some of this author's Rock Star novels, I could hardly resist this one and it didn't disappoint.
Ash Savage goes by the name of Savage. He was once in a famous Boy Band and now that he is all grown up, he is making a comeback with a complete makeover. The problem? His past reputation and music genre might be a hindrance, especially with the paparazzi who love nothing more than a good scandal.
Alice is a photographer who works for a reputable Rock Star magazine as a freelancer. She is particular in her choice of music and Boy Bands surely don't fit in her category. Not enough soul!
Alice's assignment is to photograph Savage for the week building up to the upcoming release of his rock album and his tour. She is not impressed as she already has her own opinion but, by doing this, she gets to meet her ideal Rock Star. Surely she can put up with him for a week and then she can meet her idol. She is hardly going to succumb to Savage's charm. She is no fool. Savage has his own reservations but, there is something about her that intrigues him. As they work together, she sees a different side to his public persona. She can't deny that she is attracted to him either!
This first installment of the story is riveting. It's full of surprises and it's hot. The author fleshes out the reality of the manufacturing of Boy Bands and it's not far from the truth. This makes the story even more credible. I like the development in Savage's and Alice's relationship and the cliffhanger has left me wanting for more. This would appeal to fans of bad boys Rock Stars and steamy romance novels.
I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
A great rockstar romance, very entertaining. Alice is a freelance photographer and is offered a job she can't refuse, a job working with her favourite rock idol, but first she has to work with a boyband pop star Asher Savage who's making a big come back. She hates this guy and his music, which apparently he's changing from pop to rock and he's written it himself, but still his reputation is so bad, his life is just lots of loose women and booze. When they meet, Alice finally excepts and decides to do the best she can and at first Asher has a problem performing how she would like for his photo's, but soon he gets it and he forgets his old pop persona and the new Savage begins to appear. Asher really wasn't a very nice character to begin with, he was very full of himself. Alice did manage him very well, she didn't have time for his "rockstar" nonsense and told him so. But it wasn't long before they both started to feel differently about each other, and it completely changed both their agenda's. A wonderful book, I loved it. But now I've got to wait for book 2. Yikes! Nail biting. Impatient. That's me!
Come back is love story about a has-been from a boyband who is taking charge of his life and writing the music he wants and staging a comeback with a new album. Asher found fame as a teenager and everything came easy i.e. Groupies, money and fame and it went to his head. Alice a star photographer for a prominent rock magazines and is appalled when her editor tells her she has to spend a week following a manufactured pop singer turned bad boy manwhore Asher Savage. What happens is the more they get to know each other they begin to find more in common, and they both learn not to judge too quickly. This is an enjoyable journey they both travel to gain understanding and love for each other. I really enjoyed this book, I read it straight through and loved Asher when you got to know him. It took me longer to warm up to Alice, but as things heated up it made it easier to like her. I am looking forward to Come Closer the final book with Asher and Alice’s HEA. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
I can't even begin to explain how much I loved this book. The author had me hooked from the beginning and to the end. This is a story about a bad boy former pop star, Ash Savage, reinventing himself as a rockstar with a more tamed image. And the photographer, Alice Cain, that is hired to document his comeback with her photography. Ash is used to being the dream for every woman and is in shock with Alice isn't all over him. But once he shows her who he really is, she is hooked. And he finds himself surprised that he is hooked on her. She isn't just a girl he wants to hook up with. Love may be in the stars. The story is their struggle back and forth. And I loved every minute of it. I can't wait for the next book in this series. Warning, the author leaves you wanting and needing more!
I’m always excited when I get a new rockstar romance in my life. This one for me had the perfect mix of just enough cocky rockstar mixed with independent, stubborn female to make you want to be a fan. I love a strong female character when it comes to rockstar romance and this one totally gave it to me. However, I wish there was alittle more cat and mouse with the two of them. This is a fast paced right to the relationship story and it was something I really wish the author would have drug out more. The author did trip me up with her use of “juice box” and the constant use of it, NOT A FAN!! It was a turn off but not enough to make me put down the book, it was just enough to make me say WTF WHY?! Overall, I have to say I liked this story and I’m intrigued enough to want my hands on the next next one!
This was an excellent rockstar romance. Stubborn bad@$$ chick and a cocky guy that doesn't know any better. I do wish that there was a little bit more to the story, maybe a little more angst, and a little more back story. Overall, I truly enjoyed it. The ending is slightly cliffhangery, but it just makes you want to read on, instead of throwing your tablet against the wall. I had one dislike, and that was the use of the word "juice box" in the context that it was used. It was a little weird for me. I would, still, suggest this book to others, and I am anxious to read book two.
Ash Savage is getting ready for a come back. He wants to leave behind the boy band and bad reputation and be a legit rock star. Alice is a talented photographer and music snob. She doesn't really believe that Savage can pull this off but if she documents his come back for a week, she gets to go on tour with a real rock star.
There was so much more to Savage than what Alice initially thought of him. He's talented, passionate, and pretty much perfect. I loved Alice. She's a straight shooter, talented photographer, and hard core chick. I couldn't put this book down and will be counting down the days until book two comes out!
*This is my voluntary review of an advanced reader copy*
But here is a snippet and overview of what I thought:
Overall, I thought that this was a good story in terms of the fact that it is something you can pick up and enjoy. It is just one of those books you get so that you can enjoy them, not review them. I really enjoyed the evident sexual tension between the two main characters, I definitely think that at the end of the day that was the main plot. I enjoyed this book because it made me laugh, swoon and just have fun. Thank you so much to Xpresso Book Tours for this opportunity!
Please be aware that this book is not suitable for younger readers as there are some sex scenes in the book.
This is an intoxicating story. It's a real treat to get lost within the pages of a story about a couple coming to terms with and acting upon their developing attraction to each other.
And yet this story leaves me a little bit torn. This is very much an insta love story, and it really does work for the most part. But I do wonder about how this strong, determined woman completely loses herself within such a short space of time. It niggled at me as I was reading the story.
Still, it was impossible not to get caught up in the intensity of the relationship. And given the ending? I can't wait to see what book 2 brings.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this story.
I really liked this story. She's a strong, opinionated photographer for a rock magazine; he's a pop star trying to make a come back as a rock musician. The characters were fun, and relatable. The author did a great job with this story. I liked the characters a lot, and I didn't find the story lacking at all. This book does end in a cliffhanger, and it hit me hard. I'm excited to read the next book in this series. I HAVE to find out what happens next.
Arthur Ash is a former boy band singer who wants to reinvent himself as a serious rock n roll star. His publicist hires Alice Cain to follow him around for a month so the magazine she works for can do a feature on him and change up his bad boy image. Alice can't stand the idea of Savage so her manager bribes her to take on this job, as she's the best photographer there is, if does this job she can go on tour with Molloy and photograph him and she has a crush on him so takes the job begrudgingly. I didn't know if I was going to like this book or not as but I ended up enjoying it. Easyread standalone HEA
Ms Starr has done it again. This was a fun, sexy, easy, quick read which I truly enjoyed. It would have been nice to have had a little more back story on the characters. There was some terminology that could have had a better choice but maybe that is because the author is from another country, however it did not detract from the storyline. Ms Starr is becoming one of my favorite Rock Star Romance authors. I can't wait for the next book in this series. I recommend this read.
Interesting, with characters I could connect with. I really got into the story and rooted for the two main characters to figure things out. And just as I thought it was all figured out, there was a curve ball called…next book. IF it had been a complete story I would have given it 5 stars. But, because it had a cliff hanger I can only give it 4 stars. However, if you like a good rock star with lots of lust and love, this one is recommended
DISCLAIMER: I received an ARC of this book for honest review.
I was totally in my zone while reading this book. I say this a lot, but it's the complete truth. I can never get enough of rockstars. Ash Savage certainly leaves an impression. He's one hell of a bastard in the beginning, but I grew to love him later. I liked Alice a lot. Only a girl like her can get through to a guy like Savage. Seriously. This was my kind of read. I need the next book!
Oh how I love me a rock star! This book is a constant back and forth between Savage and Alice, from stereotypes to denial of their attraction. At first I kinda hated Savage but once you get to what's on the inside, he is almost like a dream, too good to be true. Thoroughly enjoyed and since the end has me like, what happens next, will definitely be reading the next book.
I always love reading a rock romance. It gets me out of a rut and this one was perfect after reading dark romance for awhile. The angst is low and it definitely makes you want to read the next book. It was light and a great fast read. I hope to find out more about the characters in the next book.
This is part one of a two part story of a Rock Star and a photographer and how they came together, the issues they both faced and went thorough. I have enjoyed both books. Tells you to never hold in secrets that lead to lies and more lies. Its best too be honest with one another right from the start.
what a cool read, Savage is a real jerk ... but i guess we can all love a jerk for some silly reason? huh!! lol!! great read, ends kind of quickly ... curious where the next book will head??! love these characters and the read went by so quickly ... u will get totally sucked in and wonder where the time went??!
Good Book, I am a fan of Candy Starr, this new book is just another in a line of great work she puts out. It took me a minute to grab onto the characters but in the end, I ending up truly enjoying Alice and Asher's story.
I really enjoyed reading this story and there are some laugh out loud moments between the two main characters. I love how Alice did not fall right away for Savage and his rock star charm. I am looking forward to reading the next book to see what is next for Alice and Savage.
Quite an interesting story, a easy quick read. The characters are believable and the scenes are different from the regular everyday story. I enjoyed this very much , and give it five-year rating
A rock star . Ash Savage was in a boy band and now want to be in a rock band . Alice Cain is a photographer that get her chance at her favorite rock star if she does this assignment. I enjoyed the banter between the two of them , you could feel the makings of a true couple. This was a quick enjoyable read . I also am not a fan of cliffhangers.
