A view of 2005 from the eyes of 1987 was the hook but it floundered.
The populace-polarized setting was interesting and gave a fun nod to Wells' underground types from "The Time Machine" and for the years it was written it was an overdue female lead with a three-dimensional partner of under-represented nationality.
All the rest, excepting a few solid plot choices, was contrived and/or absurd.
Albert Val, the artist who left mid-way through the book, rendered the characters MUCH better.
