The second book in NYT Bestselling Author DJ Molles' series, A Grower's War:
The nation is a powder keg, and Walter Baucom is striking sparks. Caught in the middle of feuding resistance factions and a Coalition that will stop at nothing to track them all down and wipe them off the face of the earth, Walter finds himself taking on a desperate mission to save his father, and rescue a resistance fighter that he was forced to leave behind.
D.J. Molles became a New York Times and USA today bestselling author while working full time as a police officer. He's since traded his badge for a keyboard to produce over 20 titles. When he's not writing, he's taking steps to make his North Carolina property self-sustainable, and training to be at least half as hard to kill as Lee Harden (his most popular protagonist).
Molles also enjoys playing his guitar and drums, drawing, cooking, and “shredding that green pow” on his Onewheel.
Most nights you can find him sitting on the couch surrounded by his dogs and family, trying to stream an hour of Netflix with his really sketchy satellite internet connection.

Another action packed, captivating and engaging story. The opening chapter picks up right where the first book left off, as if it were just another chapter from the one before.
The plot thickens, the story becomes more involved, and the new characters and sub-stories are introduced. I got a bit confused a bit, as the interwoven stories were brought in, new characters were introduced, and keeping them separate and how the event you were involved in had bearing with what you already knew. A bit confusing and challenging at times. Yet, D. J. Molles brings it altogether.
Again, you are taken right up to the edge of your seat at times, hanging on by just a thread, believing and not quite believing, this is the end, only to be swiftly let down, like a plugging roller coaster, only to be launched up again for the next rapid curve, rocking back and forth speed, and plummet.
I have to admit, these stories have been a lot of fun and packed full of excitement and intrigue. If that is what you are looking for, you came to right place.
This the second book in DJ Molles' new and quite pertinent to what is going on in the world today dystopian 'Growers War'series. It is set in a future US which is controlled by the US (Fed) - China and Russia who brutally control the population using their new breed soldiers. It is a non stop thrill ride which has you hooked from the start right through to the finish (well cliff hanger for the next book). Despite the frenetic action Molles allows the characters in this second book to develop, the Walt we met in the first book is becoming a far more cynical and hardened character. We are introduced to his wife Carolyn whom is mentioned often in the first book but we don't meet who also has to become a harsher version of themselves to survive in the CO AX. We also get to meet the other factions of the resistance and see something developing akin to the communist uprising of the early 20th century which overthrew Tsarist Russia. I am a huge fan of his remaining series but I am starting to think the Growers War series could be even better and surpass it. This is one of my favourite books so far this year and I would happily recommend it to anyone who enjoys action filled thrillers/ dystopian fiction or who is just looking for a new great author to discover.

Book 2 still has an awesome story line. Unfortunately, somebody needs you slap the editor that proof read it. It's got a few spelling errors, a few more grammar errors, and some inconsistency. You can tell in a couple of patches where the author needed to rearrange some plot line stuff, and reword bits here and there. Not a problem. The problem is the editor dropped the ball. The storyline is still an A+, but it's much less immersive due to the shoddy proofreading and editing.
This book had a lot going on with very little actually happening. I love character driven stories, but this wasn't one of them. It was more like watching a "found footage" style film with fits and jerks all over the place. There is some good build-up of a general story arc, but I begin to wonder if this will be another five book "trilogy" from DJ Molles.
Great follow up to The Purge of District 89. Molles really keeps up the pace while adding depth to the characters and fleshing out the story. Some questions are answered, new questions are raised, and the tension builds throughout the story right up to the cliffhanger ending. Starting book three right away and looking forward to it.
This continuation of the war, brings us new sides, and a better understanding of where everyone is. I was so pulled into this story, and it's characters, that I cried when we lost one. And I tried to find a bookmark, while reading on my Kindle *laugh*
Interesting storyline that showcases humanity’s strengths and flaws. There are no clear victories, complexities of both protagonist and antagonist. And, of course, double agents on all sides.
Another amazing book! I loved The Remaining series and I’m loving A Grower’s War series! Thank you for this amazing read! The action had was intense and I felt like I was right there in the action!
The story has interesting and intriguing plot lines with characters that are so human. The resistance cells are fighting and double crossing each other. meanwhile ordinary people are caught in the middle.
I really enjoyed this sequel! Carolyn has been taken by her parents, the Eudys, and Walt is on a mission to find her and fight the Fed. The characters and plot are well-written and timed out. I don't think Mr. Molles knows how to write a bad book (or series).
Became a D.J. Moller fan with the Remaining. He writes strong, layered, real characters. Believable story full of suspense, action, and real characters.
"Renegades" is the second book in a trilogy set in a future where China and Russian soldiers work with US soldiers to keep working class citizens in their designated careers and suppress resistance. The story of Walt's search for his wife and father continues in this book, and things have not gotten any easier for him since leaving AD89. The surprises learned at the end of "The Purge of District 89" are expanded on in this book and bring with them new challenges and struggles for Walt and his group to overcome. Will he find his family? Will the resistance coordinate or splinter? Can they make a difference?
This is yet another great story from D.J. Molles. The action is amped-up in this book as it is moving the story further along into the trilogy. Some of the cliff-hangers from Book 1 have been answered, while at the same time throwing a few more out that should hopefully make anyone reading this series want to read Book 3 ("Rogue Cell").
