She's always known you can't trust aliens, but nobody ever said they would be this hard to resist.

Between her work as a nurse and trying to keep her teenage sister from doing something stupid, Meg Cauthran has her hands full. Since the death of her parents from malfunctioning alien technology, Meg has lived with one simple truth: The aliens are nothing but trouble. And when she's assigned to a Karuvar medical facility, the impossibly sexy, incredibly possessive Verkiir proves just how right she is!

As First Guardian, Verkiir fer Vel’a is entrusted with the very future of the Karuvar - protecting the Pathfinder’s only son. Despite his people's tales of fated mates, Verkiir only believes in one thing: His duty. But when he lays eyes on the feisty Meg, all he can think about is claiming all of her - heart, body, and soul - for his own!

Their desire may burn brighter than the fiercest sun, but Verkiir wants more than one scorching hot night. Trying to convince Meg of their shared destiny is no easy feat, though. Especially when he has no idea what a human female even wants from a mate!

When their charges go missing in the dangerous ruins of a decimated Earth city, Verkiir and Meg are forced to rely on each other and the bond they share. But is the world truly ready to accept a union between a human and a Karuvar? And can they learn to trust each other - to overcome their prejudices - or are they destined to be torn apart?

Verkiir is the first novel in an exciting new sci fi romance series. It features a super sexy alpha alien hero, a confident, sassy heroine, and explicit scenes not suitable for the faint of heart!

Meh. It's a story that's dependent on insta-love, but I didn't believe in the connection. The story itself was fairly weak and sex-dependent. I didn't hate it, but didn't particularly enjoy any part of it. Overall, not interesting or memorable and I'm unlikely to continue with the series.

This is one of my first Juno Wells/Alana Serra books and I have to say color me impressed! I'll be honest, I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book at first. I'm still fairly new to the sci-fi romance genre and the really out there looking alien heroes are a tad outside my comfort zone. Oh I'm sure I get past my reservations eventually but for now, I prefer to stick the ones that look more like humans than anything else. When I first read the description of the Karuvar I was a little hesitant. They had scales, horns, long tails and (non human) expressive ears. It was the ears that threw me and I thought ehh... I'm not sure if I'm digging the big ear look but after awhile I started imaging Verkiir looking a little like one of the Na'vi from Avatar and yeah, I have a total crush on Jake Sully in his Avatar form so I quickly got on-board with the non human looking ears. LOL

Once I got past all that I have to say I LOVED the book! There was tons of action, adventure, and romance. I love that Meg didn't just fall right into the mate bond phenomenon. She was human and reacted exactly how a real human would if a ginormous scaled, horned alien had declared her his mate. She freaked out and ran.

I loved Verkiir. His species is utterly devoted to their mates and despite his prejudice against humans he didn't let that keep him from doing whatever it takes to make his human mate happy. He was beyond sexy and fiercely protective without being over the top smothering. Great series starter and I really hope that Drann and Ashley get a HEA together!

I enjoyed this story, the world the author created was very interesting, I like the idea that our technology would be what drew an alien race, it's a new one for this kind of work. For a change women/mates/slaves/sex is/are not the only thing Earth has to offer.
I also liked the reality of extreme reactions from both the aliens and the humans, I've always wondered if our proclivity to attack things that we don't understand has kept us isolated from what must be out there.

I look forward to more from this Author.

This book is about two individuals and family. Megan is trying to keep herself and her sister together and alive. Verkiir is a Karuvar, an alien. The Karuvar need some resources that the humans have and the humans need the implants. The implants allow the humans to live above the ground on their war-ravaged world. Megan blames the Karuvar implants for her parent's death and therefore has no use for the aliens. Verkiir is a warrior and sees the humans as weak and useless and therefore has no use for them. The implants and mother nature have different ideas for these two. It is not smooth sailing for these two. Both learn about sacrifice and the importance of family, the one we are born to and the one we make. I do recommend reading this book and look forward to the next. This book is sexually graphic and violence is somewhat graphic.

Awesome book about alien / human Romance

In this book the alien have been coming to Earth for an implant that the medical staff have developed to help both races. Verkiir came to Earth with his Pathfinder and found his mate. But she would not be his mate because she blamed the aliens for her parents death.

Megan and Verkiir had many problems to solve, especially the one about mates needing each other. They both became sick when they weren't near each other.

The characters are unique, relatable, and interesting in the concept of alien and human personalities' clashes. A new world opened up when you're traveling to through the Stars. This is a must-read for Syfy romance and highly recommended.

DNF 76%. This book was just a bit boring. It’s my last book of the year and I just didn’t have the persistence to continue. Meg meets alien Verkiir and it’s a big case of insta-mating-instinct. I never really felt that the characters knew each other and the hot scenes felt a little forced. Meg resists the connection which I just found a bit boring after a while. She just started to feel a bit whiney. Verkiir tries to prove to Meg what a good mate he can be by protecting her. It was slightly funny as he tried to cook for her but it also made him seem less alpha.

Verkiir does save Meg in the end which was just a bit annoying. For all her tough words Meg could never save herself.

Maybe it’s me. But this book didn’t engage me.

A good start to a series

There were a few things that kinda irritated me about the book but it wasn't enough to keep me from finishing it Meg's flighty personality for one she loves him one minute totally committed then first sign of distress from her sis and she's packing up heading back to earth wth?? Then she gets ticked off at him for sending her back when he was giving her what she asked for, should he have spoken to her first? Yes but hello ur dealing with a alien totally different species and different customs for someone so smart she was kinda dumb

What a fantastic story. I loved how different it is and there isn't just a straight jump in between the characters. I loved Verkiir's character the most. He is extremely protective, loving, caring, and all hot alpha male. The characters have great chemistry together and it shows in the writing. You can feel all the love that went into writing this story. The flow of the story is superb and the writing itself is great. I voluntarily review an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

An addictive story, great beginning of a new series

It all starts with a great story and is made better by the addition of relatable characters who start as adversarial individuals. The world building is fascinating as you can imagine a world that might eventually come about considering how humans act towards each other. The building tension is mixed with a steady build up of action and just makes this book one you will have to read right through to the end.

Beware the Alien determined to prove himself worthy

Verkiir is determined, from the moment he realizes Meh is his one true mate, to prove himself worthy of her... though it might help if her understood her culture a and values.

I really enjoyed the sense of humor here, combined with individuals finding themselves in a position to have to look beyond their assumptions and prejudices to actually see someone as a unique individual who just might surprise and intrigue them.

Verkiir

Strong start. The "hot" parts in the beginning were blunt to the point of intrusive. Forced almost, as if they had to be inserted to meet a romance requirement. I would have preferred to just enjoy the story. Lots of turn on a dime 180's. Personally I dislike heroes who are mega macho who turn into fluffy pusses, but that's me. I like my manly men to stay manly men.

Not bad., Verkiir realized Meg was his mate and had to convince her about it. Meg was a great and responsible sister, very self sacrificing but really living under too much stress. I loved the way Verkiir tried to help, even when he made such a mess. He really put himself out there for Meg and put her first above anything or anyone.

Try this one

Would have given this a five star rating except for the wrong word usage i.e.. he instead of she etc. Megan and Verkiir 's story is the beginning of a series that could go on forever. Lots of possibilities. We only meet two other Karuvar in this book which is sad, but in future books hopefully we will meet more, since there is a whole world of the Karuvar.

Two very strong willed people Meg Cauthran a human nurse and First Guardian, Verkiir fer Vel’a who must learn to work together if they are to keep their charges safe. What happens? A new series and I want the next book when it comes out! I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Verkiir

A different kind of Alien story but very good. The flow of the story was well written and thoughts believable. It's hard not to realize that we as earthlings may just do this to our planet and have to resort to life as this may represent. A work of fiction that could well become fact. Recommend this for your reading pleasure and an addition to your library.

DNF - made it to 78% before giving up because I was just bored. The story was hard to get into, I wanted to give up in the first 10%, but forced myself to continue. It picked up a bit, but lost the mojo at some point. There was really not much for world building. No explanations for things either. The characters are flat & did not inspire me to care what happened to them.

Expected a little more

This book was a great read, in general. I loved the Karuvar race and how different they are.
Verkiir was a delight, but I found Megan very annoying, which stopped me from connecting with the couple as I usually do.

Ash was super funny, and I hope she gets a book telling her story — if she doesn't have one already.

I liked Alana Serra's writing style.

Don't miss this SciFi journey...

This post apocalyptic "world" is very intriguing. The Karuvar are physically and culturally captivating. Meagan, Verkiir, and Ashley engage your heart and your imagination. This story is easy to read and a SciFi joyride.
