The Ayah and Other Stories is a collection of acutely observed stories that will take you on a memorable journey. Spanning settings from the 1960s Sri Lanka to the Somalia of the 80s, and to the 21st century Paris, each vignette provides a superbly rendered and deeply atmospheric glimpse into the private and emotional worlds of a variety of narrators. Boisard-Fernando's collection offers not only a deft handling of place and setting, but also the tantalising possibility of seeing the world through the eyes of her subtle and loveable characters. The Ayah and Other Stories was born out of her poignant memories of a blessed childhood in Sri Lanka and keenly perceptive womanhood in France, in between traversing many places and time-frames the world over.
Amazing bite sized stories. Through the stories of author, we can see world through different eyes or we can say we can see world through author's point of view that reveals how different thought process and understanding author have about the world. Book literally remind me of "Like the flowing river by Paulo Coelho". Imagination of author is beyond our reach. Hats off. I like the story of snake which visits daily and want to convey some message or emotion that is the most. Such a wonderful story and a book. Keep it up !!
I received this book as a giveaway and I must say I am really impressed with all the stories in this book.
The short stories in the book, based on the memories of the life of the author, are thought-provoking and mesmerizing. At the end of each story, the author makes you think as to what would be ahead of this story, leaving it to the imagination of the reader while at the same time giving a hint of the situation that may arise and unfold even after the story has ended.
With the weaving of beautiful descriptions of each character and their thoughts along with a subtle eye-opener to the ways of society, each story presents a beautiful event related to life as it happens everyday.
