Clara Button loves to make things, and her brother Ollie is a bit of an inventor, their rooms stocked with all they could desire for making. When the family is invited to a wedding Ollie wants to make something special to take and Clara wants the perfect outfit. When she decides to colour her hair purple to match her dress she gets in a quite a mess but comes up with an innovative solution. Ollie's confetti thrower is quite a feat of the imagination too, luckily the wedding is also quite a colourful occasion - an Indian wedding, which Clara's outfit proves perfect for. Throughout the book are scattered items from the Victoria and Albert Museum, publishers of the book and I love the illustrations which are very busy with the line detail I've come to recognise in Emily SUtton's illustrations, which I was familiar with long before she became a picture book illustrator. A book to pore over, and if you were in the area you might go along to the museum to see what you can spot there.
Disclaimer: The illustrations are gorgeous. If I were to rate on the illustrations alone, this book would get five stars.
As it is, I can't just comment on the picture part of the picturebook and not include the book part. And with all due respect, the book part of this picturebook is rather bland. I felt nothing whatsoever towards Clara, her brother, or her mother.
