'The Map is not the Territory' is Colin Bancroft's third collection of poetry. Following on from 'Windfall' and 'Going Dark' this collection once again questions our place in the world and our relationship with nature. 'Haunting', a fairytale-esque poem about the decline of an old house contemplate who, and what, we are. His elegiac voice is at it's sharpest in poems such as 'Bam', and 'The Clearing', linking the themes of loss and memory together in startling and poignant ways. 'The Map is not the Territory' is an assured, confident collection that goes beyond the surface of the maps we guide ourselves by, to explore the inner workings of the land, life and love around us.
