As dawn breaks, Surya, the Sun God, leaps over the horizon in his chariot, pulled by seven radiant horses. As he rises into the sky he spreads light and warmth all over the world. The great Ganga king, Narasimha Rao, commissioned 1200 artisans to recreate this scene in stone. The Konark Sun Temple is a place where the lines between fact, fiction and folklore have blurred over time. Amar Chitra Katha interweaves the history of the 13th century monument with some of the mythology associated with it.

The story of the Sun Temple of Konark is told in this weaving of history and legend. Places that are special culturally tell us so much about what that particular society values. The way it changes can also tell us about 'shifts' that are made in a given group; what is considered sacred can become just the opposite as time goes on.

Konark tells the story of the Sun God's temple, interweaving history and mythology within vibrant pages. There were stories of Krishna, his wife Jambavati and son Samba, the first sun temple and the subsequent temple at Konark that boasts the magnificence of the sun god, whose rays nourish one and all. Loved this to bits. I believe this is one of the newer ACK roll outs, as the cover is glossier and even the font and colour scheme is different from the older ACK comics. Nevertheless, nothing not to love. If anything, it was amazing.

I enjoyed this story a lot. I had no idea about the legends related to the history about the Sun Temple. I liked how multiple mythological stories were also covered. I wasn't aware of most of them.

While the exact history may not be known, the story and the ending were quite poignant. I'm not sure about the way the king was initially portrayed as a benevolent ruler considering what he would apparently have done at the end.

Rare story

I have read many books, but konark story is different from all, I learned something new about Sun God, Krishna and 1200 architects and a 12 year old boy who all build the Sun Temple

wow! very well written with beautiful pictures. The dedication of the architects is very admirable. I wish the king had been a little kinder and helped the families of the workers relocate closer to the construction, he could have been more open and accepted good ideas from anyone.

This volume covered legends around the Sun temple in Odisha, from the legend of Lord Krishna's son, Samba to the story of architects who made the temple a reality. I would love to read about the temple in detail.
I'm truly fascinated by the marvels of Indian architecture. The sheer brilliance of Indian craftsmen, their knowledge of Geometry, Astronomy and Mathematics and its application in architecture is spellbounding.
