Celebrity-socialite Reno Selleti doesn’t believe in very much beyond Instagram comments, hipster drugs, and the flash of paparazzi cameras, so when a friend invites her to an orgy, she goes along mostly for the lulz. But the joke doesn’t feel as funny when she realizes it’s an actual occult ritual, and suddenly she’s seeing things… Horrifying apparitions trying to warn her. “RUN.” There’s Nothing There #1 is a stylish, hallucinatory thriller about losing yourself in the bright lights and finding yourself at rock bottom.
Picked it up because the cover rocks and Snotgirl got me interested in that vapid, young millennials, Instagram culture...with a twist, ofcourse.
But the characters are uninteresting, unlikeable and unrelatable. The sex and drugs had me interested enough to make it to the end, but when the long awaited supernatural aspect finally finds it's way in, it's underwhelming. I won't pick up part two. Enter sad trumpet. Wah wah waaah
After all the negative reviews I've seen of this, I wasn't sure if I would like this one. Because I like to be contradictory, I really, really enjoyed this. It took me a few pages to adjust to the art style, but once I did, it was 100% worth it- it fits in incredibly well with the content of the comic, the hallucinations the character sees and how everything kinda sees psychedelic and exaggerated. It's very adult, which was unexpected, and I'm really excited to see the main character discover what's going on with her and the uncover all of these mysteries in the future issues!
There’s Nothing There is a cool 21st century play on how celebrities who go wild don’t necessarily go wild on their own, without the influence of the occult. I really enjoyed this comic but it took me towards the end of the book to appreciate the writers work. This graphic novel has really great art and an adult theme that any millennial could appreciate. Anyways thinking this one as a more adult snot girl that centers on celebrity mistakes and attitude.
A story of “What if...”I love the obvious parallels and the punk rock spirit contained within the pages of the first issue. California has always been a place where dreamers dream and dreams are made, and it seems this book gets that. We’ll see if Calexit can live up to its hype beyond the pages of the first issue.
I wasn’t sure if i would like this because I don’t usually like horror but I’m obsessed!! It’s funny and salacious and spooky. To me it reads like gossip girl turned horror. I am absolutely in love with the art style!! I want to buy a second copy so I can cut out some of the pages to put in my wall because it’s so cool
again, loved the art and concept, story was messy, rushed and kind of pointless. A lot of dialogue also felt like filler, although it’s true that I enjoyed the main characters, they were kind of fun 💗
