Catsby: A Parody

Rate this book
Jay Z. Catsby throws the sickest parties on the Jersey Shore. His neighbor Dick has heard all the rumors: Catsby killed a man. He’s richer than Blue Ivy. He’s Hugh Jackman’s butt double in the X-Men movies.

As Dick soon learns, the truth is far stranger. Catsby is a furry who spends his days and nights in a cat costume, pining away for Dick’s cousin Dandelion, a manic-pixie dream yuppie living in Park Slope with her brutish husband. Against everyone’s better judgment—but much to the reader’s amusement—Catsby begins an affair with Dandelion that may cost him all nine of his lives.

Much like F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic "The Great Gatsby" skewered the Roaring Twenties, this parody from New York Times bestseller Andrew Shaffer satirizes our modern era with savage wit and humor. Over 40,000 reads on Wattpad!

“The funniest take on a bestseller since Harvard Lampoon’s Bored of the Rings.” — CNBC on Shaffer's Fifty Shades of Grey parody, "Fifty Shames of Earl Grey"

This was such a FUN book! Andrew Shaffer has a knack for writing clever, original humor. I loved the wonderful surprises - in characters, situations, and setting - that the author weaved into the well known overall storyline/plot of the Great Gatsby. From the dragon named Judi Dench to the Walgreens card that got the bearer out of speeding tickets, to the darker moments dished up matter-of-fact such that we questioned what was really going on, I enjoyed it all. CATSBY was inventive, intriguing, and highly entertaining. Recommend!

Not just parody, but meta-parody. This was very enjoyable & so full of pop culture references that I began to wonder if a non-American studying US lit would catch all of the allusions. After reading this book, I now find I have laugh lines & that my suspicions about Amway have been confirmed. (Lose some, win some.) I won a Kindle edition from a Goodreads giveaway.

An interesting take on a classic novel.

It keeps you wanting to read from beginning to end, with enough differences to make it feel like a fresh new story.

The story is compelling, well written and interesting to read. However some of the phrases used may not be easily understood from people outside of a specific community.

Overall, great book and would happily read again.

Total waste of my time

This was the dumbest book I have ever read. I only finished because it was short and I was hoping that at some point it would live up to its hype. That is two hours of my life I will never get back. I would rate it with a negative number if I could.

Dnf at 30%.

I tried but it wasnt for me. I enjoy a good parody as well. The humor was vulgar and made me roll my eyes. Maybe someone else will like it.

3.5 stars. Well, this was a trip. Funny parody of The Great Gatsby but one of the weirdest things I've ever read. Sir Catrick Stewart and Ian McKitten were my favorites.
