Follow-up to The Purge of Babylon post-apocalyptic series. _________________________________________ FROM THE PURGE, A NEW BEGINNING.
It's been six years since a terrifying breed of seemingly unkillable creatures emerged from the darkness to fall the unprepared governments of the world, in the process knocking mankind down the food chain.
Survivors called it The Purge.
A few brave souls rose from the ashes of the old world to fight back, often against overwhelming odds. Led by indomitable heroes, they risked everything to achieve a final, stunning victory over the supernatural “ghouls” in The Battle of Houston.
Five years later, what remains of the ghouls have fled back into the shadows, and humanity now resides in isolated communities in relative peace. But human ambition and greed have also survived, and with no laws to stop those willing to pursue them, it’s every man for himself.
Keo, one of the unknown heroes of The Battle of Houston, has found serenity in a small town in Texas. But he will discover that a violent past is not so easily cast aside when a madman rises to dominate those around him, and in the process shatters Keo’s new life.
It’s a brave new world, but monsters still exist—and thrives. And where there are evil deeds, good people must rise to stem the tide...on the Road to Babylon.
I have read this series from the beginning and eagerly await the new books. It's over the top but I love the characters and can't wait to read what happens next. Keo & Laura???
So happy to be back in the Babylon world - even if Keo is the main player. I have never understood why Sisavath has been so stuck on this one character. He's like the most......meh out of all of them. But, I do have to admit, after this book Keo has grown on me. Finally. I don't know if his character has been given some depth, a touch of humor, or offered scenes with less predictable violence? He's suddenly a tad more interesting and entertaining. LOVE LOVE Horse too!!!! What a phenomenal character! Overall, it's a fantastic world to get lost in. I'm really happy nine plus books was not the end. I'm excited to continue reading on!
It's an interesting history in a post-apocalyptic world, developed in the aftermath of a confrontation with ghouls that severely diminished their nunmbers. Now that the threat seems in the past the protagonist tries to live a peaceful life until a new threat changes everything. The hero reminds me of 90's action movies, when protagonist were tough and funny without exaggeration.
Other than Will, Keo was my favorite character in the first series and this first novel in the second series post purge was fabulous. I enjoy the way humor is used and is such a huge part of Keo's personality. This character is so well developed that he comes to life. I felt like I was right along side him as I read the book. I loved Horse and look forward to seeing more of this smart animal. Yes I would like to see Emma rescued, but all of us die hard fans know Keo's heart belongs to Lara. Will is fine and I would love to see that relationship develop. Perhaps the warthog was Lara looking for Keo. I am also sure she is well aware of Fenton and am hoping for a roundup of more old characters soon. Sam this was one if the best books so far. I loved it!
In between mediocre reads and searches for any post apocalyptic stories to hold me over, haven't found any worth the trouble, I wait for the next in the series - and every time Sam deliveries and every time when it ends it's too soon for the new story to end and too long to wait.
I don't expect post apocalyptic main characters to be the same people who inhabit urban fantasy, horror, historical novels or science fiction but these folks are stupid.
The U.S. has more guns than people. A number of writers spend pages complaining in their novels how onerous current gun laws are. In this world, where ghouls are still around and paramilitary types crisscross the landscape why are the survivors afraid to own guns?
They don't form larger, more easily defended communities. There is a lot more benefit to concentration than just defense. From farming to small scale manufacturing and a lot more. It never occurs to these people to band together?
It doesn't hold my belief. Most of the women are useless except for making jam and being made sex slaves. The middle aged white males seem to think they're in Mayberry and as long as they have to only deal with other white males, what could go wrong.
The main character says that personal survival comes first but doesn't do very much but luck through his negative encounters. This is a character that seems to have been a special forces soldier, though it's not spelled out. Clueless is as clueless does. He was one of the better characters.
I read another novel set in this universe and it was interesting. I'm going to try the next volume and hope it's feels more believable.
I've read the first 9 books introducing me to the Purge. After the first book, I HAD to read the other eight and when I was done, Sam Sisavath is now one of my favorite authors. What a writer!
I'm almost bouncing with excitement because characters from the first 9 books are appearing here and there. I would HIGHLY recommend you read the other books before starting here. It just makes it better knowing the history. These books are easily one sitting books, regardless of the page count (over 400 pages generally).
I can't recommend these books enough. The world is amazing; the characters are memorable and lovable (even if they are the bad guys); the monsters are fascinating. Read the books, you won't regret it.
I confess, I am addicted to the Babylon series and this "new" series (although a stand-alone book), is a continuation of it. Like the others, it is well written, well edited, has strong characters, and a great storyline. It also has heart and soul and, surprisingly, a sense of humor, a great combination for any book. I've already pre-ordered the next book and can't wait for its September release. In the meantime, pick up books 1 through 9 in the Babylon series and treat yourself to an excellent read. You don't have to read them to enjoy this book or the ones to follow, but trust me, it will enhance and enrich your experience.
I'm so glad the author decided to visit the Purge a again. I absolutely loved this book and has a great start with one of my favorite characters from the Babylon series. I can't wait to see what friends from the Babylon series show up in book two. I' m hoping that some how Frank is resurrected through this new series! If you are looking for a great series to read pick up the Babylon series, you will not be disappointed and I know you will love all of the characters as much as I did.
I started reading the Purge series in 2014, at the time it didn’t take me long to outpace Sam’s release of the next book... book to book I’d go and with glee. I was excited to see this series and it would appear I’m a bit behind with most if not all the books out, woot!
If you haven’t read the original series I recommend reading it first even tho you don’t have to. Keo, Keo, what an amazing character Sam developed. Small spoiler alert, there’s a horse named horse in this story. You won’t regret picking this series up!
If you are a lover of Fantasy books, this is the series for you. The author does a wonder job with his detail descriptions of the characters, you feel as though you know them personally. The story line has everything in it to keep you hooked. I had a hard time putting it down (actually I didn't put it down much). What I want to say about this book is it's a great read.
Good but not great. During the reading it is obvious that this is a "set up" book for a series. A bit redundant and could easily be skimmed. This could be read apart from the Purge series, but it was helpful that I understood the references to characters and events from the earlier books ( Laura, Will, the "Walk Out"). Interesting turn of events around last quarter of the book that might keep me reading the others, not sure yet.
This book picks up 5 years after the end of the Purge. Life can be tough - Keo's spent the time wandering, but has finally found a town he likes - which, knowing Keo's history means the shit is about to hit the fan! The time jump and changes in dynamic to fewer ghouls and more crappy people (worse Monterey if you ask me) makes for a real fresh re-entry into the series!
Another of example of how the authors abuse of their success. Purge of Babylon was a nice serie that had a very good ending. Why don't leave it like that instead of pushing further. This book should have been a short story if it wasn't for endless nonsense dialogues. Besides, although the author's intention of not spoiling the previous books there is no way you can understand this one withuout previously reading the rest.
The same awesome stories we are used to getting from Mr. Sam Sisavath!!!! And, I got one will take all I can get. Thanks so much for continuing on with Keo, one of my all time favorites. I hope we hear more about all the rest of the original gang soon. Please. If there are people out there who have not read The Purge series yet, What Are You Waiting For???? You really are missing out on a great adventure.
This series has been a favorite of mine for awhile now. Well written, very exciting books that make you love the people in them. There is no way you can drag yourself away once you start down this road. You will be anxiously awaiting the next book like the rest of us. Don't stop writting.
I am glad we are still reading about the Purge and the survivor's. This book was a quick read and I would have liked a bit more details on what happened after Houston. I like the old Keo, and it seems he has mellowed in the 5 yrs. I'm hoping the next book in the series brings back some of the other survivors. Get that pen to paper Sam!
The undead will not die or go away for that matter!
It is difficult to get a good night's sleep, What with those things scratching at the window to do something to you, just what we don't know because we are not told, A d then there are the guys all dressed in the same battlegear. Capturing all the women and children.c
Sam you did it again. A other storyline with a familiar character. Keo is on as mission and I pity the fools that get in his way. He seems a little ,smoother now, but every bit as bad. I only hope this series is as enjoyable a read as the last. I have no doubt that it will be. Thank you Mr. Sisavath, I have new material to read.
I have to say, I REALLY enjoy Sam Sisavath's writing style! He's got a witty way of writing that makes me laugh a lot! His stories aren't really deep, but man, are they fun! Once I get into his books, I really have a hard time putting it down. He's definitely one of my favorite authors at this point!
Back in this world and it never fails...can't wait for the next one to see how he manages....just don't let another favorite go ...losing Will was heart wrenching enough
Love the wittiness and banter. Sam writes with such a flow that you never want to put the book down and need to finish it in one sitting. Can't wait for the next one.
A great return to the Purge universe, i can't wait for the next one. If you like your dystopia mixed in with non stop action i can recommend the whole series as being one of the best I've read. Leave your brain at the door and jump in you won't regret it.
This is a great series from a solid author. If you want an action series that makes you disappointed that the book is over because you won't get to hang out with your new best friends, then this is the series for you.
Great continuation of the Purge of Babylon character Keo, set 5 years after the last book. Can't wait for the next installment. The author also promised the return of other characters from the POB "world"
I have read every book in the series by Sam sisavath. Every book was thrilling, suspenseful and action-packed. I thoroughly enjoyed each one. Am looking forward to reading next book in this series.
I was a bit disappointed in the shortness of this book. But sucked me in again and not really sure why.Basically just more of what went down before but I always want to know what is happening with the characters I know.
I am glad to see this series continue. I like the main character and have always enjoyed the bits of humor sprinkled through the stories. Looking forward to the next one.
This is another great one with Keo as the lead character. There's some good character development of the new characters. This is a good start to this new series in The Purge world. Already bought the next one in the series.
Another great read from Sam. The main characters are well written and developed. The action sequences are realistic, and the plot keeps you reading. Cannot wait for the next installment.
