Not His Werewolf

Not His Werewolf is book two in the Not This series by Annie Nicholas. The covers are cute and story is insta-mates.
Each book in this series can be read as a stand-alone, but I’ve notice set ups for next books or reviles of things that happened in other books plus previous characters pop up. For me I’ve been skipping around in the Not This series and have no issues with not reading in order.
Betty is a shifter who can not shift and so pack law labels her a human. She has always felt like a part of herself is missing and that she doesn’t fit in, so she’s made her own pack by rescuing animals.
Ken is like the Good Boy next door. He claims Betty as his mate; before he realizes the implications. I enjoyed that he is all in on wooing his lady and going slow; because he knows he could scare her away.
The world Nicholas has created is filled with a verity of supernatural characters. I do like to see a verity of supernaturals. In Not His Werewolf we get to meet the werewolf’s. See a different view on the wolf pack and on Ryota the Alpha who we meet in Not His Dragon, and how rare finding ones mate is among them. We are also treated to some fun banter and Betty and Ken are great together.
Now I’ve noticed that the heroine's in the Not This series are all down on their luck in someway and the hero's are all well off and can swoop in and save the day. It’s nice to see the heroines fight tooth and nail to survive, but I’d like some change up. They all seem the same type of heroine. Same goes for the hero's.
Not His Werewolf was another ok read in the series.

Well now. What a lovely way to start the New Year reading.

There is something really wrong with this review around this part. I swear it thinks it's the Bermuda Triangle and consequently keeps making my words disappear.
(Consequently. Look at me, using all big words. xD)
Because of God forsaken exams I'm only now just getting to my first book of the year. (Why no, I'm still in between tests.)
I don't know about you but there's a lot of anxiety surrounding my first book of the year. I'm not superstitious but I feel as if how my book felt is pretty much how I expect my year to feel . . . any takers?
Now on that track, it's going to be a very nice, sweet, awww kind of a year.
I'm having a really hard time believing more people haven't heard of this or that I haven't read anything by Annie Nicholas before cause this had absolutely everything!
Not a single character got on my nerves, except Joshua I think his name was but then I'd be pretty disappointed in myself had he not annoyed me even though he was only featured for like two pages.
So this is a very typical Umaiya review where not much of the plot is discussed but a lot of "feelings" are but hon, that's just how this works for me :P
The plot was pretty much what the blurb says it to be. Explain it any more and you might as well not read it cause you'll probably end up knowing everything. What I mean is, there's not much to tell.
As is much in common with shifter novels, the concept of "mate" or soulmate, your one and only, total insta-fest, is what our H was expecting whenever he met his girl, only, things didn't quite happen how he thought they would.
And let me tell you, I loved that!
I have said this before and I'll say it again, I love good insta but reading our H tying himself in knots? Priceless!
Very abrupt and all that but I'm gonna end this here cause I don't know what else to say and my episode is all loaded and waiting for me so, Ciao! :*

I love, love, love Not His Werewolf, the second outrageously cute release in the Not This Series by Annie Nicholas! I became completely smitten after reading Not His Dragon, the first delightful release in the series. I could hardly wait to get the second book in my hot little hands and Nicholas didn't disappoint. I snickered, snorted, and sniffled through the entire story but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and well entertained. Not His Werewolf is a sexy, well crafted, fast-paced, easy-to-follow, full-length, standalone paranormal tale filled to the brim with side-splitting humor, captivating characters, heartbreaking angst, dreamy romance and of course, a heartwarming happy ending. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with his and her perspectives. The dialogue is snappy, hilarious, well-executed, and flows effortlessly. No one appreciates a well-written story better than me, but no matter how great the technical components and execution, without a cast of great characters, it's all for naught. And that's what I love about the work of Annie Nicholas, she delivers the whole package, time after time. Each time I open a Nicholas book, I'm always assured a satisfying read. And Nicholas didn't disappoint with Not His Werewolf! I fell head over heels for werewolf Ken Birch, Beta of the New Port Pack and adopted son of Alpha Ryota. And werewolf/human hybrid Betty Newman, owner of Almost Home Animal Rescue, was an absolute hoot. If any of the aforementioned names sound familiar, they should since quite a few of the characters were introduced in the first book, Not His Dragon. These two characters were hilarious together but don't let all the humor fool you. Ken and Betty were perfect together. Their sexual chemistry was smokin' hot! No spoilers from me but I will say this...Beautiful sassy but brokenhearted human/werewolf hybrid exiled from her pack because she couldn't shift-check! Handsome, dominant werewolf who had been searching for his soulmate for years-check! A still very grumpy alpha-check! Danger, heartache, and lots of angst-check! Humor, attraction, passion, steamy sex, and dreamy romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more!
Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

I love these books!
I also love Annie's writing style. As I say in all of my reviews of Annie-books, she has the perfect balance of heat and humor, and they always leave me with a smile and wanting more!
In addition, she has a unique talent for writing shifters. She gives them human qualities in their animal form and vice-versa, and she does it in such a way that I've never really seen done before.
I was really cheering for Betty. She couldn't shift, and that left her in limbo between the human and paranormal worlds. Her struggle was so touching, but what she lacked in sense of self, she made up for with sass!
Ken was every bit the dominant male. I enjoyed reading his devotion to Betty and how he handled being introduced to her wacky way of thinking.
The ending was so awesome, and I was SO so happy for both of them!
This is the second book I've read in this series. While it's not necessary to have read Not His Dragon in order to enjoy this book, I HIGHLY recommend it. Angie and Eoin (from that book) hang out a lot in this story, and I was so happy that I got to catch up with them!
I can't wait for more in this series!!!

This could be fun, but I decided that I don't want to live in a world with these elements:
1. You can only soulmate bond with "your own kind", which means that, if the hero doesn't help the heroine shift and "prove" she's also a shifter, the local alpha will kill her.
2. A soulmate trumps every other relationship. The heroine's parents are married and (obviously) have kids together. They aren't soulmates because the mom is human and the dad is a shifter. But, in this world, if her dad met his soulmate, he'd leave her mom in no seconds flat because "the call of one's soulmate couldn't be denied. Past relationships seemed to dissolve in seconds." I hate that kind of thing. I prefer worldbuilding that allows people to make choices and their biology doesn't cause them to do stuff that wouldn't be okay.
3. The insta-love of soulmate. Okay... I read a lot of romances and there are quite a few with this trope. Seriously, I just ended another book with this trope. But, if the instalove comes along with "you must choose this one person cause your biology demands it", then it sucks for multiple reasons. One, because it takes away agency and consent; and two, because it removes the need for these two to get to know each other. I like more relationship development.

Cute werewolf story. Ending was rather a simple fix to the problem that the book hinged on. Nothing really new brought to the genre but very readable anyway.

The thing is, I really like these books! I like the characters - a lot! The sarcasm and wit are awesome but there is some part of me that thinks the relationship hurdles and central defining issues are resolved too quickly. No spoilers but . . . really, Eoin? That being said - It's a super fun book. I'm on to book three!

What Is It About:
Betty is a half-werewolf that can't shift. She was thrown from her childhood pack as she's now considered human. She now runs her own animal shelter out of her apartment. Her best friend is the new dog-catcher. She shows up at Betty's house with a knocked-out werewolf in the back of her van. When Ken wakes up in a dog cage in an animal rescue shelter, he isn't angry. He's hungry and happy that he's finally found his soulmate and she was under his nose the entire time: Betty. But if she's her soulmate, that means that she's more wolf than anyone realised and that causes more trouble than either of them were prepared for.
What I Liked and Didn't:
I have a fair few issues with this book. I wasn't too fond of the relationship between Ken and Betty. It was meant to be a kind of insta-love or at least instant attraction that's related to soulmates but it just wasn't well executed. The relationship was just lack-luster. Although their first date was pretty cute of paddleboats and hot dogs. I didn't really care about Betty as an individual either. I wasn't that I didn't like her, I just didn't care. Although, I did quite like Ken. He was adorable, romantic and had a heart of gold, I mean he donated to an orphanage and frequently has dinner at his Grandparents, adorable. While I didn't like Betty, I did like her parents. The arguments and the banter between Betty's Dad and Mum were so realistic that I could see it happening in real life. I also loved the image of a little Chihuahua popping its' head out of a large man's chest pocket. Some of my other issues were that the premise of keeping the vampire in the dungeon just weakened in this book, it just doesn't seem like a smart idea. The solution to getting Betty to shift was so stupid and so easily resolved that the book instantly went down in my opinion. She spent years going to different training to force the shift and to have the problem as something so silly was just idiotic. The person calling the challenge was meant to be a surprise, we as the reader were meant to be just as surprised as Ken and Betty but the person just didn't make sense. I understand that it's meant to be because she's officially a shifter now but it escalated so quickly and didn't make much sense. My biggest issue was just how similar the book is to the first book. A human doesn't know she can shift but begins to hope that she can because a man enters her life. She isn't human and has something blocking her from reaching the magic to start the shift. An ex is possessive and doesn't like her new love interest. There's a fight to win the heart of the woman and she ends up with the love interest that she chooses. She shifts and lives happily with her new love. Guess which book I just described: the first book or this one? Both? While this book was entertaining, it certainly wasn't original and that just annoys me.
Final Thoughts:
I read the first book when it was just a stand-alone so when I say this book, I was ecstatic that there was another book. Miss Nicholas' writing style is still there as are her funny characters, but right now I just wish that I had ignored the existence of this book and stayed happy with the first book.
Would I recommend it? I would the entire series. It's just me having too high an expectation about the book I think.
Will I read another book by Annie Nicholas? I'll read a book if I like the sound of it but I'm not reading a book just because her name is on it.

Puppy love and more
I absolutely loved Angie and Erion story, so I couldn't wait to read Betty and Kens story. It was funny, I laughed and cried it was an emotional read. Romantic and full of family antics that kept you on your toes. Wonderful characters to fall in love with leaving you ready for the next story.

I received this book for from the author and it does not affect my review. Betty cannot shift even though she is a shifter. She can feel in her bones that she is a shifter. Since she cannot shift, she is banned from her home wolf pack and has to go and live the in human world. Slhe starts a pet adoption home. She makes this her pack. While out on one of these runs is dogs, a dog catcher sees him and mistakes him for something else and shoots him with a couple of tranquilizers. She does not know what to do so she takes the wolf to her friend Betty. They put him in a dog cage until he wakes and can change back into human form. Ken awakes and finds himself looking into the eyes of his soulmate which is a rare thing in shifters. But nothing is easy with these two and the things that they have to do to be together or not. The story keeps you wrapped up waiting to see what will happen next.

This is the second installment in Annie Nicholas’s “Not His Series”. It features the town of New Port. Betty Newman is a wolf shifter that has never shifted. She was removed from her pack for being defective. As all wolf shifters need a pack, Betty has created her own. Betty owns and operated the only animal shelter for unwanted dogs and cats in New Port. These unwanted pets become Betty’s pack. She devotes her life to these animals and their well-being.
One night Betty’s friend who works in animal control darted (tranquilized) a wolf shifter. In a panic she brought the wolf to Betty’s shelter. Betty and her friend struggled to drag the wolf into a kennel until he can wake up.

I couldn’t wait to read "Not His Werewolf" by Annie Nicholas, I love reading her stories about shifters, so full magic.
She writes the kind of romance I like the most, without unnecessary drama and betrayal, full of irony, passion and that make you fall in love with the protagonists of the story, but also with the people around them.
"Not His Werewolf" is the second book in “Not This Series”, and it’s Ken and Betty’s story, it can be read as stand alone, since the first book was Eoin and Angie’s story who appear in this book as secondary characters , but they are absolutely a strong presence. I love Eoin's humor and his being so eccentric and a little out of time.
Ken is a dominant wolf, with a rather important position within the hierarchy of his pack, being the Beta, but also the adopted son of the Alpha. It‘s difficult for him to have simple relations and friendship within the pack, because of his role, and he also can’t go unnoticed.
Betty is a young, beautiful girl, who struggles with her bills for independence, she left her pack and her family because she is unable to change shape and become a wolf. Over time, she made all the possible attempts to try to change this situation, with no results, and in the end she tried to build a new life far from everyone, working to save stray animals.
Fate, or rather a tranquilizer syringe, put them in front of each other and Ken immediately becomes aware Betty is his mate, but she can’t recognize the bond. Accepting Ken in

What an incredibly sweet story! Shifters have one true wish and that is to find their one and only, their Soulmates. It is a difficult wish to fulfill for many but not for Ken Birch, his problem was convincing Betty Newman of that fact. Betty left her pack at 18. When she was unable to shift, forcing her to accept the human side of her life instead of the Shifter half. Being forced out of her pack left lasting scars on Betty, some she really never wants to encounter again. But then Ken enters her life and nothing is ever going to be the same again.
This was an enjoyable read from beginning to end. The action was at a good enough pace that it kept me enthralled all the way through. I refused to put it down and finished it in one reading, * IT WAS THAT GOOD **!! I totally recommend this to all Shifter Lovers and those that love the mischievous side of life! I loved the start of Not his Werewolf. Animal control shot a tranquilizer dart into a werewolf and then had a panic attack. Betty Newman, a werewolf who cannot shift, comes to the rescue and the unexpected happens. When Ken Birch wakes up in the cage at Betty's animal shelter he knows he has found his soul mate but nothing is as easy he he thinks it will be. I loved Betty and how she tries to take care of everyone around her. Ken is so mixed up and confused. Finding his soul mate was not suppose to be this hard. A fun story with a lot of laughs before getting to the HEA. I realized why Betty could not shift about half way through. For added fun see if you pick up the hint.

I'm never disappointed in a book from Annie Nicholas and this was no exception. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I feel fortunate every time I get one from Annie Nicholas.
I had already read Not His Dragon, which I enjoyed, so it was fun to see how these characters were connected to the others. Betty & Ken shared a soulmate bond, but Betty was unable to shift, so it didn't make sense. The reason for her inability to shift was unexpected, and the outcome was happily predictable. And because there was a Princess Bride reference, I must recommend this book. Have fun stormin' the castle!

I really enjoy this authors paranormal romances. I loved the storyline and the characters in this book. You really feel for her and all the pain she has experienced. She so wants to belong. He give her hope but loving and trusting in him is a great risk. They have amazing chemistry and I was hooked into the story right away. I wanted her to get a happy ending but the author kept me guessing.

All that changes when friend halls a werewolf into her animal rescue shelter. As Ken groggily wakes up he scents his soul mate and sees Betty. Thus begins a fun story of learning to overcome the short comings of life to successfully reach a much deserved HEA.

Great story
Great story. I really liked the characters. The heroine was a bit whiney, over all fairly kick ass, but when she got on the whiney self doing trips it was hard to like her.
I really like these characters, I look forward to continuing this series. Four stars cause it needs a tiny bit more editing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. the characters were 3 dimensional and you get sucked into the story. I was worried I wouldn't like this one as much as her first ( not his dragon) but it kept me just as gripped. I love the new characters and the depth of the ones in the first book. it has kept me up to the morning hours again. I shall be sleep deprived but a good book is worth it.

Loved this book! Betty and Ken are perfect together and I loved seeing Ryota from Ken's view and meeting Ryota's parents. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Much improved!
This novel was much better fleshed out than the last. I didn't feel like only one character getting the love. A grand addition to what's shaping up to be a fabulous series.
Ken was briefly introduced in "Dragon," and Betty was sort of mentioned in passing. These two may be opposites, but they're both a little broken, and even the multitudes of problems arising can't keep them apart.
We also saw a little more of Eoin & Angie from the previous book, but any questions left over from the abrupt ending were only hinted at, not resolved. We get another glimpse of Viktor, the near-feral vampire, amongst a whole host of other characters, new faces & old.

I loved this story, it is the second installment in the Not His series, I am so delighted there is a third one ready for me to read. It has the perfect amount of humor and romance combined. I love the fact that this stand alone novel brought in characters from the first book. This is a book I would highly recommend.
